Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) in water treatment industries can simultaneously offer disinfection and eradicate organic contaminants. The present work examined the direct exposure impact of various oxidative (UV, O3, and H2O2) and their eclectic combinations (UV/O3, H2O2/O3, and UV/H2O2) for the abolition of Trihalomethane (THMs) precursors. The application of the Fenton process proved to be the most effective technique for reducing TOC (85.23%) and UV254 (91.11%) than other used AOPs. Higher removal of THMs precursors found in the Fenton process may be attributed to the higher degradation potential of hydroxyl radical generated from this process than other AOPs. The deformed ferrous iron salts (Fe2+) in the Fenton reagent catalyzed the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and produced highly reactive radicals. Seasonal probabilistic lifetime cancer and non-cancer risks of THMs in males and females were also investigated in the drinking water supplies of five major cities in India. Comparative risk analysis through different pathways revealed significant risk from oral ingestion (99%), followed by inhalation exposure (0.77%) and dermal absorption (0.002%), where females were found at higher risk of cancer. Sensitivity analysis using a radar plot was also performed to identify the most influential parameter affecting the total risk of cancer. The Risk value of chloroform (CF) was highest among the THMs compound in all the WTPs for both seasons. Seasonal risk assessment revealed a higher risk of cancer in the pre-monsoon season. Abstract Summarization, is to reduce the size of the document while preserving the meaning, is one of the most researched areas among the Natural Language Processing (NLP) community. Summarization techniques, on the basis of whether the exact sentences are considered as they appear in the original text or new sentences are generated using natural language processing techniques, are categorized into extractive and abstractive techniques. Extractive summarization has been a very extensively researched topic and has reached to its maturity stage. Now the research has shifted towards the abstractive summarization. The complexities underlying with the natural language text makes abstractive summarization a difficult and a challenging task. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the various works performed in abstractive summarization field. For this purpose, we have selected the recent papers on this topic from Elsevier, ACM, IEEE, Springer, ACL Anthology, Cornell University Library and Google Scholar. The papers are categorized according to the type of abstractive technique used. The paper lists down the various challenges and discusses the future direction for research in this field. Along with these, we have identified the advantages and disadvantages of various methods used for abstractive summarization. We have also listed down the various tools which have been used or developed by researchers for abstractive summarization. Research findings of the past few decades on the cultivation of microalgae for biodiesel production from laboratory to pilot scale microalgal cultivation have translated into empirical hope of developing an eco-friendly biofuel from algae. As far as economic sustainability is concerned, harvesting of microalgae is one of the most energy extensive processes and thus a major challenge, being faced by this industry. In our study, we designed and developed a quaternary ammonium salt based cationic polymer and evaluated its effectiveness for freshwater microalgae harvesting. An epichlorohydrin-n,n-diisopropylamine-dimethylamine polymer with high viscosity (1040cps) was synthesized. The flocculation performance of this polyamine polymer was evaluated in terms of biomass recovery efficiency of microalgae (Scenedesmus sp.), its effect on lipid yield and composition. The results revealed that due to high molecular weight, the biomass recovery efficiency of the polymer was achieved >90% at a very small dose of 8mg/L whereas similar biomass recovery efficiency of chitosan and alum were achieved at 80 and 250mg/L respectively. The presence of functional quaternary amine and hydroxyl groups played an important role in electric charge neutralization of microalgal cells, hence the improved microalgal flocculation performance in comparison to the natural flocculants but not affecting the lipid yield and its composition. The approximate cost of harvesting 1kg of Scenedesmus biomass is approximately 0.5USD for the polyamine polymer whereas 50USD for chitosan. Therefore, polymer based harvesting of microalgae for low valued products such as biodiesel, polyamine based polymers would be preferred over the natural polymer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Milk is a source of bioactive molecules with wide-ranging functions. Among these, the immune properties have been the best characterised. In recent years, it has become apparent that besides the immunoglobulins, milk also contains a range of minor immune-related proteins that collectively form a significant first line of defence against pathogens, acting both within the mammary gland itself as well as in the digestive tract of the suckling neonate. We have used proteomics technologies to characterise the repertoire of host-defence-related milk proteins in detail, revealing more than 100 distinct gene products in milk, of which at least 15 are known host-defence-related proteins. Those having intrinsic antimicrobial activity likely function as effector proteins of the local mucosal immune defence (e.g. defensins, cathelicidins and the calgranulins). Here, we focus on the activities and biological roles of the cathelicidins and mammary serum amyloid A. The function of the immune-related milk proteins that do not have intrinsic antimicrobial activity is also discussed, notably lipopolysaccharide-binding protein, RNase4, RNase5/angiogenin and cartilage-glycoprotein 39 kDa. Evidence is shown that at least some of these facilitate recognition of microbes, resulting in the activation of innate immune signalling pathways in cells associated with the mammary and/or gut mucosal surface. Finally, the contribution of the bacteria in milk to its functionality is discussed. These investigations are elucidating how an effective first line of defence is achieved in the bovine mammary gland and how milk contributes to optimal digestive function in the suckling calf. CuO-modified ZnO random nanowire networks have been demonstrated to enhance the sensitivity and selectivity towards H2S. CuO being p-type and ZnO being n-type semiconductors, modification with CuO results in the formation of random nano p-n junction distributed over the nanowire surface, thereby leading to depleted nanowires. The enhanced response has been attributed mainly to the interaction of CuO with H2S forming CuS, a degenerated semiconductor with a metallic conductance behaviour, causing a drastic change in the resistance. The governing sensing mechanism can be envisaged to have contributions from the different regions namely nanowires bulk (depleted), junctions among nanowires and the interface between sensor and Au contact electrode, respectively. To establish the governing sensing mechanism, it becomes critical to isolate the contribution arising from each of them. In the present work, we report the impedance and the Kelvin probe studies of CuO/ZnO random nanowire network sensor films. Impedance studies indicate that the contributions arising from the bulk and the nanowire-electrode contact is negligible. A drastic variation in the resistance of the sample arises mainly due to the band bending. The extent of band bending depends on the ambient oxygen and the interaction with the test gas. Temperature- and gas concentration-dependent studies clearly indicated that the CuS formation is the major cause for such bending. Gas sensing characteristics of SnO2 thin films prepared by RF sputtering have been investigated and compared to that of RGTO (Rheotaxially Grown and Thermally Oxidized) films. Both the sensor films exhibited a highly selective response towards H2S with RF sputtered film showing better response characteristics. RF sputtered and RGTO films exhibited a maximum response of 54 and 15 towards 10 ppm of H2S at an optimum operating temperature of 150 and 250 °C, respectively. Sputtered films exhibited a linear response in the wide concentration range from 500 ppb to 500 ppm while RGTO films were found to saturate for concentrations above 100 ppm. XPS investigations revealed that the RGTO films are more sub-stoichiometric or oxygen deficient than the sputtered films. Raman studies further indicates that the surface of sputtered and RGTO films are characterized by the presence of oxygen deficiency attributed to the "bridging-type" and deeper "in-plane/sub-bridging" oxygen vacancies, respectively. The improved response kinetics of the RF sputtered films is attributed to the presence of bridging type oxygen vacancies that facilitates the charge transfer between the sensor surface and H2S molecules. The influence of oxygen partial pressure on phase formation and magnetic properties of LSMO (La2/3Sr1/3MnO3) thin films deposited on STO (1 1 1) substrates by pulsed laser deposition was investigated. Phase formation and epitaxial growth were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Good crystalline mosaic is observed for oxygen partial pressures ranging from 0.3 to 1.0mbar. For each of the pressures, the lattice parameters were estimated assuming the lattice distortion is volume conserving. The Curie temperatures TC vs lattice strain relation thus obtained is comparable to the available data in literature. Variation in coercive field of the films can be accounted for by the variation in TC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
