In this paper, we critically review the half-century (1962–2022) history of study of Oligocene to Pliocene mammal-bearing successions in the eastern Linxia Basin, Gansu Province, China. Despite great strides in our understanding of the regional geology and the discovery of a large quantity of mammal fossils, there remains major discrepancies concerning the definition and age assignment of the formations that comprise the Linxia Group. This has resulted in the development of two competing schemes for its subdivision: the first scheme was proposed by geologists of the Lanzhou University and the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, and the second scheme is associated with paleontologists of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology. In an attempt to solve these discrepancies, a five year project was initiated in 2017, and herein we report the main findings as follows: (1) The Jiaozigou Formation does not extend into the Miocene, with its top calibrated at about 23 Ma; (2) The Liushu Formation, as defined in the Maogou section, should be considered as the penecontemporaneous shallow water facies of the coarse-grained Hujialiang Formation of Middle Miocene age; (3) The widespread Hipparion -bearing deposits along the Guangtong River, which have been also referred to the "Liushu" Formation represent a different stratigraphic unit and should be given another name to eliminate confusion following further stratigraphic analysis. • A brief, but comprehensive review of the studied history of the Linxia Basin. • We pointed out ambiguous opinions and misunderstandings in previous studies. • A reliable chronology of precise sedimentary sequences was established with constraints of accurate mammal fossils. New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) exert great potential in reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality and reducing the dependence on petroleum products, and are also essential in realizing the social transformation toward a low-carbon society. Since public are the principal users and stakeholders of NEVs, it's vital to understand their acceptance of NEVs and discuss the influencing factors of public acceptance, so as to promote the development of NEVs. Based on the survey data of Gansu Province, this paper analyzes the public perception and acceptance of NEVs in underdeveloped regions, and explores main factors affecting their acceptance by adopting Structural Equation Model. The results show that the public acceptance of NEVs is relatively higher, with only 51.99% residents are willing to accept NEVs. And there are differences of public acceptance of NEVs among different groups. The acceptance of females, young and less educated public are relatively higher, decreases with aging and increases with education attainment. Perceived risk and perceived cost are significantly negative correlated with public acceptance of NEVs, while subjective norm and the quality of NEVs positively correlated with public acceptance. In addition, support policy is significantly positively correlated with perceived cost while perceived cost is positively corelated with perceived risk. Finally, this paper proposes countermeasures and suggestions on improving the public acceptance of NEVs in underdeveloped regions. • We conducted the NEVs acceptance of 1356 residents in Chinese underdeveloped regions. • 51.99% of the public in underdeveloped regions of China were willing to accept NEVs. • Perceived risk, perceived cost, and NEVs' quality are the key influencing factors. • Support policy, knowledge have significant indirect impact on acceptance of NEVs. • Enhancing subsidies and supporting facilities were effective ways. As a renewable energy, wind power has been improving energy structures and assisting in the maintenance of strategic energy security. Based on provincial level panel data from 2000 to 2018, this paper developed models to evaluate the effects of different policies on newly installed wind power capacity and investigated the market reform influences on wind development in eight spot market pilots. It was found that on a national level, while the pricing and government guideline policies significantly promoted wind power growth, present market reforms were having an opposite effect. The results also suggested that from a resource endowment heterogeneity perspective, there was a significant difference in the wind capacity promotion policy performances. Additionally, of the eight spot market pilots, market designs had led to a significant reduction in new wind power installations in Gansu and Inner Mongolia, and no significant wind power development effects were found in the other pilots. Based on the research results, a discussion on policy use and suggestions on policy improvements are given. • Effectiveness of different representative wind power policies are examined. • The panel models are developed using data that covers 30 provinces over 2000–2018. • Policy effectiveness varies by policy types and wind resource levels. • The current market designs show little impact on wind power development. • Implications on policy use and improvement suggestions are given. Ecological agriculture (eco-agriculture) is an approach to agriculture that seeks a balance between ecological and economic benefits to promote the sustainable development of both. This paper proposes a scientific method for analyzing the environmental and economic effects of eco-agriculture and simulating their long-term trend. Here, we focus on the eco-agriculture system of Kongtong District, Pingliang City, Gansu Province, China, and we build a system dynamics model named “AEP-SD” to evaluate the integrated effects of the system from 2009 to 2050. Under business as usual conditions, simulation results show rapid improvement until a peak is reached in 2027, after which the system will decline gradually. The model identifies some defects and disadvantages of the current agriculture system, such as the excessive increase of cattle slaughter, unstable production of methane, slow development of organic agriculture, and unsustainable energy structure. System improvement policies are offered and then proven by the model that they can indeed reduce the negative effects and eliminate the potential risks of system decline. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Baima Tibetans, a unique ethnic group inhabiting the hilly regions of the southern tip of Gansu Province, possess ancient religious beliefs and rich traditional knowledge. Baima Tibetans have developed their culture, traditional beliefs, knowledge, customs and resource use systems through their productive activities and living practices over many generations. These have played a critical role in conserving local biodiversity, including the giant panda, and preserving the livelihoods of local inhabitants. People in the local Baima community have a great sense of self-identity that is related to their traditional beliefs and knowledge. They possess a strong recognition of the role that traditional beliefs play in protecting their villages and conserving the wealth of biodiversity. Consequently, Baima peoples respect their traditional ways and the customary regulations of the village that relate to the conservation and use of natural resources. Biodiversity conservation and community development have faced challenges in Baima Tibetan communities in recent times, which are largely due to the imposition by external actors of a powerful development model based on modern scientific knowledge and technologies, a model that usually neglects the role that traditional religious beliefs, production practices, and local governance systems play in biodiversity conservation and community development. In this paper we analyze of these issues on how the Baima Tibetan people''s traditional knowledge, practices, and local institutions may be better utilized to meet biodiversity conservation and community development needs in the future.
