In this study, an electrospinning method was used to produce highly conductive freestanding carbon nanofibers (CNFs). The freestanding CNFs are compatible with hierarchical growth techniques, such as hydrothermal processes, for the nanostructure engineering of supercapacitor electrodes with enhanced electrochemically active sites. Therefore, the flower-like FeMoO 4 @CNF nanosheets were investigated to improve the electrochemical performance using aqueous and neutral electrolytes (Na 2 SO 4 and K 2 SO 4). The optimized FeMoO 4 @CNF electrode exhibits areal capacitances of 252 and 220 mF·cm−2 at a high current density of 2.5 mA·cm−2 with Na 2 SO 4 and K 2 SO 4 electrolytes, respectively. The wide potential window (1.6 V) of the symmetric supercapacitor delivered maximum energy densities of 22.4 and 19.6 μWh·cm−2 at a power density of 2 mW·cm−2 for Na 2 SO 4 and K 2 SO 4 electrolytes, respectively. Triple-layered boron-containing carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with hollow channels (PPMPB) are fabricated via step-by-step electrospinning for high-performance freestanding supercapacitors. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based CNFs in the first layer are chosen as the support layer material because of their excellent chemical stability and electrospinnability. The well-developed hollow channels provided fast ion diffusion in the second layer of PAN/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)-based CNFs. The surface boron functional groups constituting the third layer contribute to the pseudo-capacitance. The symmetric supercapacitor of the PPMPB electrodes delivers a maximum specific capacitance of 180 Fg−1 at 1 mAcm−2, a high energy density of 22.38 Whkg−1 at a power density of 400 Wkg−1, and an excellent retention rate of 96% after 10,000 cycles in aqueous solution. The excellent electrochemical performance is attributed to the unique sandwich nanostructure with a three-layer structure, in which the factors representing the electrochemical properties of each layer do not interfere with each other. Therefore, a moderate amount of boron and the high surface area of the triple-layer structured PPMPB can be fully utilized as an excellent conductive network and electroactive sites, which is expected in a high-performance supercapacitor electrode. The Indigenous bio-bed technology with electrical cells were designed to evaluate the Nitrogen removal performance and other pollutants from the river water. The designed Indigenous bio-bed technology were taken an influent levels of CODcr at 250 mg/L, NH 4 -N and, NO 3 -N concentrations at 7.5 mg/L for the experiment. The device ran for 48 h for nitrogen remediation of the river water, thus, achieving removal efficiency of 85 %, 97 %, 98 %, 95 % and 92 % for CODcr, NH 4 -N, NO 2 -N, NO 3 -N and TIN, respectively. The highest power and current density generated were 486.86 mWm−3 and 4807.02 mA/m3, respectively. The correlation of both the values of Voltage production and TIN removal performance is shown to be statistically as, R2 of 0.9861 and 0.9999 of both open and close circuit mode of operation, respectively. The dominant phylum relative abundance deduced the close circuit mode of operation: higher relative abundance than the open circuit. [Display omitted] • Ultrafine PtCo nanoparticles anchored on CNFs is fabricated by rapid heating method. • The obtained PtCo/CNFs-HHR displays outstanding ORR/OER catalytic activity. • PtCo/CNFs-HHR based ZAB exhibits a high peak power density and excellent durability. Herein, rapid heating strategy was introduced to synthesize ultrafine PtCo nanoparticles attached to carbon nanofibers (CNFs) by a high heating rate (HHR) up to about 50 °C s−1. A lithium–ion capacitor, comprising a capacitor–type cathode and battery–type anode, exhibits high power and energy density; however, the integration of different charge storage mechanisms in one cell naturally leads to a kinetic mismatch between the two electrodes, reducing the power density and cycle stability. To solve this problem, high–capacity anode materials with thinner electrodes are required. Silicon, with its high specific capacity, is considered a promising anode material with high energy and power density; however, pure Si anodes undergo rapid capacity fading and exhibit increased internal resistance owing to volume changes during cycling. In this study, both sides of the electrode are covered with functional layers consisting of functionalized herringbone–type carbon nanofibers to protect the Si electrode from degradation. The polar functional groups on the nanofibers weakly interact with the native oxide layer of the Si surface and the carboxyl groups of the binder, ensuring stable contact between electrode materials over repeated cycles. Moreover, the conductive functional cover promotes uniform lithium ion fluxes, aiding the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interphase layer. This study investigates the effects of this strategy on pure Si electrodes by surface morphology analysis, assessment of chemical interactions, and electrochemical testing. The synthesis of Laser-Induced Graphene (LIG) through the laser ablation process of carbon-containing materials is a rapid and scalable process which enables the production of graphene in a cost-effective manner. In recent years, metal oxide – graphene composite electrodes have gained a lot of importance due to their use in various Energy Storage Devices (ESDs). In our investigation, we manufacture composite electrodes of manganese dioxide (MnO 2) and LIG through a hydrothermal process and use it as electrodes in Flexible Supercapacitors. This method deviates from traditional procedures as it eliminates the requirement for binders in creating composite electrodes, given that MnO 2 can be directly deposited onto the LIG electrodes. The assembled all-Flexible Supercapacitor (FSC), featuring unique LIG-MnO 2 composite electrodes, showcased a remarkable areal capacitance of 66.5 mF cm−2 at 5 mV s−1 scan rate. The device also exhibited a very high areal energy density (2.3 mWh cm−2) and power density (19.7 mW cm−2) at 0.2 mA cm−2 current density. Also, 82 % capacitance retention was observed at the end of 2000 cycles and the device also exhibited a good flexibility during bending tests, as evidenced by an 80 % capacitance retention after 100 bending cycles. The traditional air cathode in microbial fuel cell (MFC) usually consists of catalyst layer (CL), supporting layer (SL) and conductive gas diffusion layer (GDL), the overall MFC performance is inevitably affected by the additional and expensive adhesives and conductive agents. Here, we developed an integrated air cathode in MFC without any additional SL, GDL or adhesives. The integrated air cathode was self-supporting nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide@carbon nanofiber (N-rGO@CNF) hybrid membranes fabricated by electrospinning with subsequent heat-treatment under ammonia atmosphere. The as-fabricated N-rGO@CNFs possessed far superior MFC performance and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity to the pristine nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (NCNF) and commercial activated carbon (CAC). The amount of rGO embedded into CNF had prominent influence on their ORR activities and MFC performances. N-5-rGO@CNF had the lowest resistance and the maximal exchange current density, exhibiting desirable oxygen reduction performance via a four-electron pathway. The maximum power density of N-5-rGO@CNF can reach 826 mW m−2 in MFC, which is approximately 9, 2.53 and 1.82 times of pristine NCNF, CAC and Pt/C with values of 91, 327 and 454 mW m−2. The outstanding performance of the integrated air-cathodes originates from the integrality, brevity and hybrid composition of the electrospun nanofiber membrane. The appropriate embedded rGO not only improves the bulk conductivity of the rGO@CNF to promote ion adsorption, but also provides vacancies to accommodate ions, the doped nitrogen atoms facilitate O 2 adsorption and/or subsequent O–O bond breaking, thus improving the electrochemical performance of N-rGO@CNF in MFC. It is difficult for green sustainable lignin-based materials to simultaneously obtain efficient electromagnetic wave absorption (EMWA) and supercapacitive energy storage (SCES), which has not yet been reported. Herein, the light-weight lignin-based carbon nanofibers (LCNFs) with proper pore size, well graphitization degree, and heteroatom doping were tailored through electrospinning and carbonization processes. Interestingly, the graphitization degree and porous structure of LCNFs could be easily adjusted by changing the activating temperature, and the higher conductivity was achieved for preparing LCNFs at higher activating temperature due to the differences in the crystal size and activating degree of LCNFs. As a result, in the field of EMWA, the LCNFs-950 exhibited the minimum reflection loss (RL) value was −41.4 dB and the absorbing frequency was 9.05 GHz at 2.5 mm thickness, which meant this absorbent could absorb and/or dissipate more than 99.9% of incident electromagnetic wave (EMW). Furthermore, the LCNFs-950 also exhibited excellent SCES ability. In two-electrode system, the optimal LCNFs-950 symmetric supercapacitor specific capacitance reached 139.4 F/g at a current density of 0.5 A/g, meanwhile, the energy density was 41.4 Wh/kg at a power density of 3500 W/Kg. These multifunctional features of LCNFs will be highly promising for the next-generation environmental remediating materials. Prussian blue analogs, as a pseudo-capacitor electrode materials hold great potential due to their unique framework structure, excellent electrochemical activity and high specific capacity. Herein, a versatile method for the growth of series of metal hexacyanoferrates (MHCF) on carbon nanofiber with high conductivity and flexibility was proposed. By controlling the releasing rate of metal ions through acid modulation of solution, the series of MHCF nanocubes were successfully embedded on the carbon nanofibers with super stability. Different MHCF presented various loading density. Among the MHCFs, nickel hexacyanoferrate (NiHCF) is the most easily formed with high density and uniform distribution. The obtained self-supporting NiHCF@CNF, as a representative electrode, exhibited high specific capacitance (507 F g−1, 1 A g−1) and remarkable rate performance (67% retention at 10 A g−1). Moreover, the NiHCF@CNF-based hybrid supercapacitor cell delivered a high energy density of 60 Wh kg−1 at the power density of 810 W kg−1. Meanwhile, the capacitor showed extremely high stability due to tight anchoring of NiHCF on CNFs. Rational design and modulation of oxygen electrocatalytic microenvironment are crucial for achieving high performance in rechargeable Zn-air batteries (RZABs). We report a high-efficiency bifunctional electrocatalyst based on S, N codoped carbon fibers confining carbon nanocapsules attached with Co 9 S 8 nanoparticles to customize the oxygen electrocatalytic microenvironment. The inner carbon nanocapsules function as a "gas buffer", while the outer fiber skeleton acts as a self-supporting structure, which jointly refine the oxygen electrocatalytic microenvironment and improve accessibility of the active sites. Such a unique nanostructure proves advantageous for O 2 adsorption/diffusion and mitigation of local pH changes during oxygen reduction reaction, and favors the release of generated O 2 and the transfer of interfacial electron during the oxygen evolution reaction as well. The constructed liquid RZABs deliver a large peak power density (280 mW cm−2) and robust cyclability (1200 h at 10 mA cm−2), and the assembled quasi-solid state flexible RZABs further indicate long-term durability. Flexible supercapacitors are gaining increasing popularity due to their potential in powering portable, wearable, and lightweight electronic devices. In this study, we have successfully developed a high-performance flexible electrode for quasi-solid-state supercapacitors by incorporating Ag into carbon nanofibers (CNF) through electrospinning, and growing MnO 2 as an active material on the electrode using an in-situ redox method. The Ag and MnO 2 co-decorated CNF electrode offers several advantages over conventional CNF electrodes, including an enlarged reaction area, higher charge storage capacity, and improved resistance to brittleness issues. Among all the quasi-solid-state supercapacitors tested, the MnO 2 -decorated electrode with an optimized Ag incorporation exhibited the highest specific capacitance of 184 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g, representing a remarkable 17-fold increase compared to the reference CNF electrode. Furthermore, the Ag and MnO 2 co-decorated electrode demonstrated an energy density of 16.3 Wh/kg and a power density of 400 W/kg at the same current density. Notably, the electrode exhibited excellent flexibility, with a capacitance retention rate of 87 % when subjected to bending with a curvature ranging from 5 to 1.25 cm. In this study, we have successfully developed a series of low-cost, environmentally friendly, and high-performance carbon-based conductive inks with a three-dimensional micro-nano structure through a simple dispersion and ball-milling process, offering an array of desirable characteristics. Significantly, the carbon-based conductive inks remained stable even after a 30-day settling period. Furthermore, the conductive film, produced using screen printing techniques, demonstrated an impressive conductivity of 1.99 × 103 S/m. This remarkable conductivity highlights the ability of the films to consistently maintain a robust conductivity network, even when subjected to 5000 mechanical bending/releasing tests. Expanding on the success of our carbon-based conductive inks, we harnessed their potential in the production of all-solid-state flexible Micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) with an interdigital structure, utilizing screen-printing technology. The resulting MSCs exhibited outstanding performance metrics, including a notable areal energy density of 1.47 µWh cm-2 and an area power density of 0.2 mW cm-2. Moreover, these MSCs demonstrated remarkable cycle stability, retaining 96.3% of their capacitance after 20,000 cycles. Additionally, their excellent mechanical flexibility was evident as they experienced only a minor 2.98% capacitance degradation after undergoing 5000 bending/releasing cycles. [Display omitted] • The Ni-CAT/NiFe-LDH/CNFs catalyst demonstrated effective OER performance. • It has both a large surface area and significant intrinsic activity. • The catalyst was utilized to construct liquid-state and solid-state Zn-air batteries. • Optimizing the intermediate adsorption is the main factor in enhancing catalyst performance. NiFe layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) is an efficient and widely available catalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), but further improvement of its OER property remains a challenge. Therefore, a conductive Ni-organic framework is triumphantly synthesized in-situ on NiFe-LDH/carbon nanofibers (Ni-CAT/NiFe-LDH/CNFs) through a hydrothermal treatment. This configuration utilizes the exposed surface area and the electron transfer pathways of Ni-CAT and CNFs, resulting in exceptional OER kinetics in alkaline conditions. A low overpotential of 370 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and a small Tafel slope of 79 mV dec−1 are achieved. The liquid-state Zn-air batteries, featuring Ni-CAT/NiFe-LDH/CNFs catalyst as an air cathode, indicate a significant peak power density of 292.1 mW cm−2 and an extended cycle durability of over 66 h. Solid-state Zn-air batteries demonstrate stable cycling at various flat/bent/flat states, showing great potential for flexible electronic device applications. According to experimental measurements and computational analysis, the in-situ growth of Ni-CAT on the NiFe-LDH matrix can optimize intermediate adsorption and alter hydrophilicity, resulting in improved performance of Zn-air batteries. The increasing commercialization of flexible electronic products has sparked a rising interest in flexible wearable energy storage devices. Supercapacitors are positioned as one of the systems with the most potential due to their distinctive advantages: high power density, rapid charge and discharge rates, and long cycle life. However, electrode materials face challenges in providing excellent mechanical strength while ensuring sufficient energy density. This study presents a method for constructing a flexible composite electrode material with high capacitance and mechanical performance by electrochemically depositing high-quality manganese dioxide (MnO 2) onto the surface of a nanocellulose (CNF) and carbon nanotube (CNT) conductive film. In this electrode material, the CNF/CNT composite film serves as a flexible conductive substrate, offering excellent mechanical properties (modulus of 3.3 GPa), conductivity (55 S/cm), and numerous active sites. Furthermore, at the interface between MnO 2 and the CNF/CNT substrate, C-O-Mn bonds are formed, promoting a tight connection between the composite materials. The assembled symmetric flexible supercapacitor (FSC) demonstrates impressive performance, with an areal specific capacitance of 934 mF/cm2, an energy density of 43.10 Wh/kg, a power density of 166.67 W/kg and a long cycle life (85 % Capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles), suggesting that they hold promise for FSC applications. In this work, lignin-based carbon nanofibers (LCNFs) were for the first time served as substrate for in-situ electrodeposition of polyaniline (PANI) and tested as pseudocapacitor. Two LCNFs with different lignin ratios were designed to distinguish their morphology and structural properties. Next, PANI deposition mechanisms on both LCNFs were investigated and the electrochemical performance of the resulting LCNF/PANIs were evaluated. It was found although LCNF2 was composed of less uniform nanofibers due to more presence of lignin in precursor dope, it had higher tensile strength/modulus than LCNF1 (strength: 34.3MPa to 24.2 MPa; Modulus: 2.40 GPa to 1.45GPa) and was more cost-effective. Particularly, the beaded fibers on LCNF2 contributes to the deposition of PANI with higher specific mass capacitance (612.8 F g−1 to 547.0 F g−1). Upon assembling into solid-state supercapacitors, the C m of LCNF2/PANI device was determined to be 229 F g−1 and the maximum energy density was 11.13Wh kg−1 at a power density of 0.08 kW kg−1. This work showed LCNF produced from renewable and low-cost lignin could be directly used as substrate for PANI deposition. This study provides a novel and sustainable protocol for the synthesis of SU8 polymer-based pattern, un-pattern carbon nanofibers (CNF) using an electrospinning process followed by a photolithography technique. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of pattern, un-pattern CNFs shows that the average diameter of CNF is within the range of 60–140 nm. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies disclose the average size of CNF exists within the range of 40–150 nm. The first-principle calculations predict that the gravimetric energy and power densities of Li/CNF half cells are 26.96 kW h g−1 and 26.96 kW g−1, respectively. The corresponding theoretical volumetric energy and power densities are 0.07 W h cm−3 and 0.07 W cm−3, respectively. Electrochemical analysis demonstrates the initial discharge capacities of pattern, un-pattern Li/CNF half cells at 100 mA g−1 are 3450 and 2429.8 mA h g−1, respectively. The gravimetric energy density of pattern, un-pattern Li/CNF half cells are within the range of 1800–1366.76 W h kg−1, and subsequent power densities are in the span of 519.63–434.22 kW g−1. The theoretical gravimetric energy and power densities of CNF/LiMn 0.33 Ni 0.33 Co 0.33 (LMNC) full cells are 2.9 kWh kg−1 and ∼ 2.9 kW kg−1, respectively. Their theoretical volumetric energy and power densities are 1.96 W h cm−3 and 1.96 W cm−3, respectively. Electrochemical analysis discloses that the gravimetric energy and power densities of pattern CNF/LMNC full cells are in the range of 43.18–42.4 kW h kg−1 and 51.82–50.90 kW kg−1, respectively. Lithium-ion supercapacitors (LICs) have received widespread interests because of their high power density, high energy and long life characteristics. The electrodes for LICs play a significant role in enhancing their performance. Therefore, it is of great significance to design and develop high-performance electrode materials for LIC through integrating various materials to make up for each other's disadvantages. Herein, a bimetallic composite nanomaterial with hierarchical structures (CoSn X /CNFM) and a porous carbon nanomaterial with high specific surface area (PCNFM) were obtained through combining electrospinning, anion exchange or alkali etching and subsequent high-temperature carbonization, respectively. The LIC assembled with the pre-lithiated CoSn X /CNFM as anode and the PCNFM as cathode exhibited a high energy density of 41.48 Wh/kg at a power density of 1500 W/kg, and still had an energy density of 28.13 Wh/kg at a high power density of 7500 W/kg, illustrating its high power density and high energy density. SnS is an ideal material for supercapacitors because of its unique layered structure and excellent electrochemical performance, but the research of SnS based electrode materials of flexible self-supporting supercapacitors has been rarely exploited. In this study, microsphere like Co doped SnS grown on carbon nanofibers (Co-SnS@CNF) was prepared by electrospinning, hydrothermal method and annealing treatment. Co-SnS@CNF has great flexibility, high specific capacitance, excellent rate performance and cycle stability. Specifically, the specific capacitance is 750 F g−1 at the current density of 1 A g−1. The special microsphere structure with more electrochemical active sites and lower resistance of ion and charge transfer by Co doping are responsible for the superior electrochemical performances. Furthermore, when assembled Co-SnS@CNF as the symmetrical supercapacitor device, the energy density of 20.89 Wh Kg−1 and the power density of 376 W Kg−1 are achieved at the current density of 1 A g−1, while showing ultra-high cycle stability. The aim of this study is to develop the templateless fabrication of hierarchical porous carbon nanofiber (CNF)/MnO 2 composites (PMnCD) derived from polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/cyclodextrin (CD) and investigate their morphological and electrochemical properties to determine the different capabilities of inclusion complexes (ICs) formed by α-CD, β-CD and γ-CD. Among the three CD phases, the PMnCD(β) composite using β-CD exhibits a hierarchical porous structure with large specific surface area of 499 m2g-1, and total pore volume of 0.32 cm3g-1, which helps with adsorption efficiency and accumulation of hydrated molecules for double-layer formation. In addition, the numerous mesopores and nitrogen functionalities of the PMnCD(β) composite provide fast diffusion channels for electrolyte ions and higher attractive interactions with electrolyte ions through the pseudocapacitive character. As a result, the PMnCD(β) electrode has a high specific capacitance of 228 Fg-1 at 1 mAcm−2, maximum energy density of 25.3–16.0 Whkg−1 in the power density range of 400-10,000 Wkg-1, and excellent cycling stability of more than 94% after 10000 cycles in aqueous solution, thereby offering potential applications for supercapacitors. The preparation of electrode materials with superior electrochemical performance and excellent mechanical properties are essential for the fabrication of flexible supercapacitors. However, the compatibility of the porosity and flexibility for the electrode materials remains challenging. Herein, free-standing porous coaxial carbon nanofiber (PCCNF) membranes with large specific surface area (648 m2 g−1) and suitable pore size distribution were fabricated by a facile coaxial electrospinning technique and template method. PCCNF possesses superb capacitance of 261 and 48 F g−1 (1 A g−1) in three-electrode and two-electrode system, respectively, result in remarkable energy density (48.6 ± 3 Wh kg−1) and power density (67.5 ± 1 Wh kg−1). Moreover, supercapacitor devices based on PCCNF show superb flexibility as well as excellent electrochemical and mechanical stability. PCCNF-based high performance supercapacitors may be suitable for flexible electronic energy storage devices. Flexible supercapacitors have drawn tremendous attention resulting from the rapid development of wearable electronic devices. Herein, we develop an effective and facile two-step approach to prepare high content nitrogen, sulfur co-doped porous carbon nanofibers film as electrodes of flexible supercapacitors. Benefiting from the high specific surface area and rich nitrogen/sulfur content, nitrogen and sulfur co-doped porous carbon fibers film (N, S co-doped PCFF) electrodes exhibit a high mass specific capacitance of 307.8 F g−1, and the capacitance retains 98% of initial capacitance after 5000 cycles in a three-electrode system. The as-assembled flexible supercapacitor devices with polyvinyl alcohol/KOH gel electrolyte demonstrate a highest mass specific capacitance of single electrode of 183.9 F g-1 at the scan rate of 2 mV s-1, which is better than that of other heteroatom doping carbon materials. In addition, the energy density reaches as high as 16.35 Wh kg−1 with the power density of 147 W kg−1 and retains as 5.34 Wh kg−1 with higher power density of 2402 W kg−1. Rational design of highly effective and low-cost oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysts to replace Pt-based catalysts is still a significant challenge for rechargeable zinc-air batteries. Hence, Fe, N co-doped one-dimensional carbon nanofibers with Fe 4 N species (Fe/N-CNFs) are synthesized through the electrospun technique combining with the "rapid calcination under vacuum" method. Benefitting from the one-dimensional structure obtained by the electrospun technique, the as-synthesized Fe/N-CNFs electrocatalyst with mesoporous exhibits a relatively large specific surface area of 624.12 m2 g−1. Notably, the intrinsic activity of Fe 4 N species as well as the large specific surface area can endow the resulting Fe/N-CNFs with a positive half-wave potential of 0.88 V compared with 20 wt% Pt/C (0.86 V) for ORR. The Fe/N-CNFs also exhibits better long-term stability than 20 wt% Pt/C. Furthermore, the rechargeable zinc-air battery constructed with Fe/N-CNFs as the cathode shows a high open-circuit voltage of 1.51 V, a peak power density of 135 mW cm−2 and an excellent cycle life for 55 h. Nickel hydroxide nanobristles were fabricated on the surface of hollow carbon nanofibers (HPCNFs) through a low cost and effective bio-mediated technology, where the eggshells with eggshell membrane were selected as multifunctional reactors to separate the precursor solution to control OH− ion diffusion in order to form α-Ni(OH) 2 instead of β-Ni(OH) 2. The as prepared Ni(OH) 2 /HPCNFs displays high capacity (283 mAh/g) and a remarkable cycle life (82% specific capacity retained after 5000 cycle numbers) in 1M KOH aqueous solution. Compared with literature reports, in which Ni(OH) 2 are often considered for pseudocapacitors, we suggest our electrodes are good for rechargeable alkaline secondary batteries or as battery electrodes in hybrid supercapacitors, based on battery behavior observed in our electrochemical measurements. To develop economical and high-performance supercapacitor electrodes in an aqueous electrolyte, polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/pitch/lignin-based carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with ZnO (PPL-Zn) are successfully fabricated by one-step electrospinning of PAN, pitch, lignin, and zinc acetate. The oxygen-rich lignin in the PPL-Zn electrodes induces porosity on the fiber surface by eliminating many functional groups such carboxylic, carbonyl, hydroxyl and ketone and organic moieties in the simple heat treatment without any activation agent/activation process. Moreover, the many aromatic components, high carbon content, and low glass transition temperature of lignin are excellent precursors to CNF composites. In addition to lignin, pitch is used as a precursor to CNF to reduce the cost and increase the carbon yield and electrical conductivity of the CNFs. These characteristics afford PPL-Zn(5) (5 wt% of zinc acetate relative to PAN and lignin) with good capacitive behavior for application as supercapacitor electrodes with a maximum specific capacitance of 165 Fg-1 at 1 mAcm−2 with a capacitance retention of 88%, high energy densities of 22–18 Whkg−1 in the power density range of 400 to 10,000 Wkg-1, and excellent cycling performance reduced by only ∼6% after 3000 cycles of charge/discharge due to the synergistic effect of the electrical double layer and the pseudocapacitive effect. Recently, Li-ion capacitor as a kind of novel energy storage device with high energy density and power density have caused wide concern. In this study, the porous carbon nanofiber/molybdenum disulfide nanoflake-flowerballs composite material is successfully prepared via hydrothermal method using the three-dimensional porous carbon nanofibers as a carrier. The molybdenum disulfide nanoflake-flowerballs are uniformly distributed and fill in three-dimensional porous carbon nanofibers skeleton, and the clear composite material with nanofiber morphology is formed. The dramatic development of wearable electronics has led to extensive research into flexible supercapacitors as wearable energy storage devices. The practical application of supercapacitors to wearable electronics requires improved temperature tolerance and high energy density. Herein, we report the fabrication of a high-voltage flexible aqueous supercapacitor featuring high energy density and a wide operating temperature range. This is achieved by the strategy of simultaneously utilizing asymmetric electrodes and water-in-salt gel electrolyte (WISGE). Using NaClO 4 -based WISGE and asymmetric electrodes consisting of Na-inserted MnO 2 and N-doped carbon nanofibers, we obtain excellent electrochemical performance, including a gravimetric capacitance of 97.2 F g−1, energy density of 90 Wh kg−1, power density of 28.1 kW kg−1, operation voltage window of 2.6 V, and capacitance retention of 85.2% over 10,000 charge/discharge cycles. The fabricated flexible supercapacitor is stable under repeated temperature changes between − 20 and 80 °C, regardless of bending deformation. After three cycles of cooling and heating, the initial capacitance at room temperature is 95.1% recovered. This study demonstrates the potential application of our high-performance flexible aqueous supercapacitors to wearable devices, given their resistance to changes in environmental temperature and mechanical deformation. Nowadays, materials that possess high activity and natural oxygen vacancy have garnered significant attention as potential electrode materials for supercapacitors. In this study, we successfully prepared the Hf 6 Ta 2 O 17 (HTO) nanofibres (NFs) with an orthorhombic superlattice structure using the electrospinning technique and sintering process. The characterization results indicate that the HTO NFs synthesized at 750 °C show good micro nanostructures and outstanding electrochemical properties. To enhance its energy storage performance, additional oxygen vacancies (OVs) were introduced through a carbothermal treatment under an Ar atmosphere. Although longer reduction reaction times can produce more OVs, the integration of grain boundaries and the growth of grain size caused by large annealing times may limit its electrochemical performance. Therefore, the HTO NFs treated for 1 h (HTO/C-1) exhibited the maximum C s of 925 F·g−1 at 1 A·g−1 with a larger voltage window of 2.1 V. Furthermore, a symmetric supercapacitor fabricated by two reduced HTO NFs electrodes and 1 M Na 2 SO 4 solution, recorded as r-HTO NFs//r-HTO NFs. The device demonstrated excellent energy density of 73.3 Wh·kg−1 (at power density of 1050 W·kg−1) and a long cycling life (81.8% retained after 5000 cycles). ZIF derived selenides have become a promising battery-type electrode material, but pure ZIF derived materials tend to agglomerate, averting active sites from full exposure. Herein, a hierarchical Co doped Ni 3 Se 4 on carbon nanofibers modified by ZIF-67 was fabricated by co-electrospinning, calcination and solvothermal synthesis, whose mass ratio of ZIF-67 to PAN and the type of chalcogenides were regulated. Among them, CNF-Co(1:1)@NiSe, with the feature of battery-type materials, displayed the large specific capacitance of 749.27 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 and superb rate performance when the current density increased from 0.5 to 10 A g−1, owing to its unique hierarchical structure along with synergistic effect of Co-doped Ni 3 Se 4 , Co-N-C, and CNF. Notably, a solid-state hybrid supercapacitor (CNF-Co(1:1)@NiSe//active carbon) was build, and delivered the maximum energy density of 32.36 Wh kg−1 at 1 A g−1 along with the maximum power density of 7999.99 W kg−1 at 10 A g−1. The top layer plays a role in charge storage/transport by increasing electrical conductivity due to N -functional groups. The intermediate layer with tubular 1D nanostructures enhances the diffusion of electrolyte ions even at higher current densities. The bottom layer composed of numerous micropores serves as a charge storage layer. Graphene/CoO nanocomposites have excellent electrochemical performance and are extensively applied to microsupercapacitors (MSCs). Herein, we propose a simple and efficient method for laser direct writing on a graphene oxide/Co(CH 3 COO) 2 precursor to process graphene/Co/CoO nanocomposite interdigital electrodes for MSCs. This work investigates the structural defects, crystal structure, sheet resistance, elemental composition, and bond characteristics of graphene/Co/CoO nanocomposites synthesized at different laser writing speeds. The specific capacitance, power density, and energy density of the prepared MSC based on PVA/H 3 PO 4 electrolyte and graphene/Co/CoO interdigital electrodes reach 420.23 mF cm−2 (48.31 F cm−3), 1.97 mW cm−2 (226.43 mW cm−3), and 58.37 μWh cm−2 (6.71 mWh cm−3), respectively. Moreover, the Coulombic efficiency and capacitance retention rate of the prepared MSC after 10,000 cycles are 97.97% and 86.56%, respectively. Flexible electrode materials have achieved great breakthroughs during the past decades. However, many challenges remain such as how to overcome the frangibility and enhance the flexibility, and advance the high specific capacitance. We fabricated a free-standing, foldable, and conductive cellulose acetate (CA)-based metal-organic framework (MOF) composites by facile electrospinning carbonization and co-precipitation method. The sustainable cellulose derivative provides a flexible matrix, which contains hierarchically porous and ample redox activities. The intermolecular interaction is enhanced for coordination between exposed hydroxyl on deacetylated CA and metal ions, thus reduce the fracture of the CA nanofibers. Importantly, multi-layer heterojunction structure and honeycomb-like MOF nanosheets with reversibly flexible deformation create interlamellar pathways to improve the bending resistance of nanofibers. The controlled Co/Zn ion concentration could effectively modulate spatial distribution of Co/Zn MOF to thus generate different conductive channels. The asymmetric flexible supercapacitor based on Ni/Co LDH@ Co/Zn NC@CDCP-N electrode material gives high specific capacitance (175.2 F g−1 at 1 A g−1) and outstanding energy density (54.8 W h kg−1) at high power density (985.5W kg−1). This work constructs a 1D hollow particle-based carbon nanofibers (HCNFs) derived from Zn-based metal-organic-frameworks (MOFs) particles embedded in biomass-based electrospinning nanofibers as high-performance supercapacitor (SC) electrodes. Abundant mesopores are introduced by the pyrolysis of MOFs, which generates uniformly distributed electrolyte storage pools for a fast electrolyte ions channel. Owing to its uniquely hierarchical pore structure, the derived HCNFs exhibit much enhanced supercapacitive performance. Li-ion capacitor as a kind of new-style energy storage devices has attracted growing attention due to its high power and energy density. In this study, the stereoscopic honeycomb-like porous carbon nanofiber (PCNF) was used as a carrier of TiO 2 nanoparticles via simple immersion and calcination. The equally distributed anatase TiO 2 nanoparticles filling in the stereoscopic honeycomb-like PCNF skeleton provided large reaction sites, and the stereoscopic honeycomb-like PCNFs acting as support materials offered shorter electrical paths. Abstract This paper reports the fabrication of an ultra-high energy and power density asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) containing a novel porous carbon nanofiber derived from hypercross-linked polymers (HCP-CNF) and two-dimensional copper cobalt oxide nanosheets (CCO-NS) as the negative and positive electrodes, respectively. The micropore-enriched HCP-CNF is obtained from a facile Friedel-Crafts reaction with naphthalene and α, α′-dichloro- p -xylene as the starting material. The CCO-NS have been prepared by a simple and inexpensive hydrothermal synthesis using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a shape controlling agent. The fabricated CCO-NS//HCP-CNF ASC device exhibit a high specific capacitance, 244 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1, owing to the unique porous architecture of CCO-NS and the interconnected microporous carbon skeleton with a high surface area of HCP-CNF. Furthermore, the assembled ASC device show an ultra-high energy density of 25.1 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 400 W kg−1 with maximum operating voltage of 1.60 V. The electrode shows good capacitance retention (91.1%) after 5000 cycles in a 3 M aqueous KOH solution. α-MnO 2 nanorods have been grown on the surface of carbon nanofibers (CNFs) for enhancing the electrical conductivity of MnO 2. We have synthesized α-MnO 2 /CNF (0–5 wt%) nanocomposites using a co-precipitation method. The x-ray diffraction results confirm the formation of a single phase α-MnO 2 and SEM/TEM images reveal the formation of α-MnO 2 nanorods, whose size depends on the amount of CNF in the nanocomposite. Both the surface area and electrical conductivity of nanocomposites are found to be strongly influenced by the presence of CNF. While α-MnO 2 /CNF(1.25 wt%) exhibits the largest surface area (381 m2/g) and only a modest increase in the electrical conductivity compared to pure α-MnO 2 nanorods, the α-MnO 2 /CNF(5 wt%) shows the least surface area (131 m2/g) but an order of magnitude higher electrical conductivity (0.67 S/cm). Cyclic voltammetry measurements show improved performance (higher specific capacitance and better cyclic stability) in all α-MnO 2 /CNF supercapacitors compared to that of pure α-MnO 2. Ragone plot shows that although α-MnO 2 /CNF(1.25 wt%) exhibits the highest specific capacitance (313 F/g at 1 A/g) and hence the highest energy density of 32.8 Wh/kg, it has the least power density of 4250 W/kg. On the other hand, α-MnO 2 /CNF(5 wt%) shows the least energy density of 7.9 Wh/kg but with a higher power density of 8478 W/kg compared to α-MnO 2 /CNF(1.25 wt%). Our studies demonstrate that one can optimize both energy and power densities by controlling the amount of CNF in the nanocomposites. A novel one step method was developed to dope nitrogen (N), sulfur (S) and carbon (C) in the Fe nanoparticles-dispersed carbon nanofibers (CNFs) grown over carbide-derived carbon (CDC), using thiourea as the single source of N, S and C. The synthesized N/S-Fe-CNF/CDC electrode was successfully used in a microbial fuel cell (MFC). When tested as the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyst, the electrode achieved a high current density (2.261 ± 0.002 mA/cm2), high OCP (0.611 ± 0.005 V), high stability upto 400 cycles, response time of ∼11 s, electron transfer number in the range 3.73–4.03, and Tafel slopes of −0.0627 and −0.183 V/dec at low and high current densities, respectively. A first order kinetics and a 4e− pathway were deduced from the ORR analysis. Notably, the fabricated MFC based on the prepared electrode produced a high current density of 1.3887 ± 0.002 mA/cm2, high OCP of 0.626 ± 0.005 V and maximum power density of 0.238 ± 0.002 mW/cm2, attributed to the synergistic effects of heteroatoms, Fe nanoparticles, and CNFs. In recent times, a lot of research effort has been performed to develop hybrid supercapacitors (HSCs) because of their ability to produce high energy density as well as superb power density. The key issue for realizing high-performance HSCs is to minimize the kinetic mismatch between rapid capacitor-type anode and sluggish battery-type cathode. Optimizing the interface, morphology and microstructure of the electrode material is a favorable approach to surmount kinetic imbalance. Herein, a core–shell nanoarrays of ultrathin carbon layer-coated crystalline Ni-Co-phosphide (Ni-Co-P@C) and amorphous Ni-boride (Ni-B) is fabricated on a nickel foam substrate as a positive electrode material (Ni-Co-P@C/Ni-B). Theoretical analyses validate the best metallic characteristic and most stable OH* absorption energy for Ni-Co-P@C/Ni-B, which enhance its charge storage performance than analogous Ni-Co-P and Ni-Co-P/Ni-B. The porous nitrogen (N)-doped carbon (C) nanofibers consisting of tightly embedded metal–organic framework (ZIF-8)-derived interconnected N-C nanocages (HP-N-CFs) showed excellent charge storage kinetics as a negative electrode. The battery-type Ni-Co-P@C/Ni-B electrode revealed a specific capacity of 306.2 mA h g−1 at 3 mA cm−2, while highly porous capacitive HP-N-CFs electrode showed the highest capacity of 56 mA h g−1 at 2.5 mA cm−2. In addition, the assembled quasi-solid-state (Ni-Co-P@C/Ni-B//HP-N-CFs) HSCs exhibited the highest energy density of 68.3 W h kg−1 at a power density of 472 W kg−1 with a superb rate capability (68% at 50 mA cm−2) and decent cyclic durability (90% retention over 10,000 cycles). The binder-free supercapacitors were fabricated from polyaniline (PANI)@MnO 2 @flexible carbon nanofibers (CNFs) composite flexible electrodes. The flexible electrodes were constructed using a layer-by-layer synthetic strategy: a large-area MnO 2 ultrathin nanosheets firstly grew onto the surface of CNFs by self-decomposition of KMnO 4 , and then the PANI was in-situ coated on MnO 2 ultrathin nanosheets in turn through a dilute-solution polymerization to form PANI@MnO 2 @CNFs ternary electrode. In PANI@MnO 2 @CNFs electrode, the two-dimensional sheet-like structure provided by the PANI@MnO 2 nanosheets could be served as a high specific surface area and electrically conductive network for fast transport of electrolyte ions and electrons in the reaction, where PANI and MnO 2 were high-performance supercapacitor electrode materials. The specific capacitance of single PANI@MnO 2 @CNFs electrode was 654 F/g at the scan rate of 10 mV/s in Na 2 SO 4 electrolyte, and the capacitance retention was about 88.8% after 1000 cycles. Furthermore, the as-prepared symmetric supercapacitor with a PVA/Na 2 SO 4 gel electrolyte exhibited the maximum energy density of 27.9 Wh/kg at the power density of 400 W/kg, which was superior or similar to previously reported values of PANI-based supercapacitor. The as-prepared supercapacitors exhibited good electrochemical performance and high flexibility, which was a meaningful exploration for the application of flexible electrodes in the production of multi-element electrode materials for supercapacitors. Low-cost, high-performance electrodes are highly attractive for practical supercapacitor applications. MnO 2 -deposited carbon nanofiber mats (MnO 2 -CNFMs) are prepared for use as binder-free supercapacitor electrodes. MnO 2 is deposited on the mats in situ by hydrothermally decomposing aqueous KMnO 4 , leading to the formation of nanocrystals of MnO 2 . The MnO 2 -CNFM electrode produced with 38.0 μmol KMnO 4 (this electrode) shows a high specific capacitance of ~171.6 F·g −1 at a scan rate of 5 mV·s −1 . Moreover, a symmetric supercapacitor with the electrode exhibits a specific capacitance of 67.0 F·g −1 , an energy density of 6.0 Wh·kg −1 and a power density of 160 W·kg −1 at a special current of 0.1 A·g −1 . Further, the symmetric supercapacitor displays excellent cycling stability, retains approximately 99% of the capacitance after 1000 cycles. The simplicity and ease of preparation of the MnO 2 -CNFMs as well as their suitability for use in coin-type supercapacitor cells make them ideal for application in cost-effective and high-performance electrodes for supercapacitors. Flexible, cross-linked carbon nanofibers (CNFs) film with hierarchical micro-meso-macro-porous structure is prepared by carbonization of the elestrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/NaN 3 composite nanofiber mats. The gas liberation of NaN 3 during the carbonization is responsible for the tuning of both specific surface area and the pore size distribution. In addition, the exothermal decomposition of NaN 3 at the heating stage of carbonization leads to the melting of the PAN/NaN 3 composite fibers, resulting in a cross-linked CNF structure. The CNF film with 5 wt% NaN 3 carbonized at 900 °C (CNF-5-900) shows a high specific capacitance of 222.92 F g − 1 , nearly twice as high as that of the CNF film without NaN 3 (CNF-0-900). It also shows an excellent capacitance retention ratio of 81.97% of its initial capacitance from 0.5 A/g to 50 A/g, much superior to the value of 51.02 % for CNF-0-900. Moreover, it has an excellent cycling stability with cycling retention ratio achieves 94.5% after 10,000 charge-discharge cycles. Coupled with its excellent mechanical stability (only 1.6% conductivity loss after bending of CNF-5-900 film at curvature radii (r) = 2.5 × 10 − 3 m for 10,000 cycles) and facile fabrication process, the flexible, cross-linked CNF films with hierarchical micro-meso-macro-porous structure is a potential electrode materials and/or backbone to support other active materials for various application, including the flexible energy storage and electrocatalytic. Here, core-shell supercapacitor electrodes with high performance were prepared using electrospinning, carbonation, nitrogen-doping and chemical polymerization. The core of the electrode was a N-doped porous carbon nanofiber skeleton, its shell was a conductive polymer loaded on it. The effects of pore-forming agent content, N-doped amount, and polymerization temperature on the morphologies, structures and electrochemical performance of products in each stage were characterized, and the optimum parameters were obtained. As a freestanding electrode, the SC of core-shell composite reached 342.13 F g−1 at 1 A g−1, and its SC attenuation was only 4.6 % after 1000 cycles, indicating its good charge storage performance and cycle stability. Then a symmetric supercapacitor fabricated with the best electrode displayed an energy density of 3.10 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 50 W kg−1. The composites of transition metal oxide and carbon nanofibers (CNF) are promising electrode materials for supercapacitors in alkali solutions. However, the weak binding and unsatisfactory rate performance limit their application. To improve the weak binding, this study prepared the SiO 2 -modified carbon nanofibers (Si 1 -C) via electrospinning. Then the fully encapsulated CoO-NiO (NiCo@Si 1 -C) was fabricated on Si 1 -C by solvent-thermal and calcination. As is revealed, CNF containing SiO 2 is conducive to forming a full coverage of CoO-NiO coating with a stacked petal structure. More importantly, nano-SiO 2 plays the anchoring role of NiO-CoO and CNF, making the combination more firmly. The NiCo@Si 1 -C delivers a specific capacitance of 518.1 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1, almost 2.25 times that of NiCo@Si 0 -C (229.9 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1). When the current density increases to 50 A g−1, it is only 3.9 % lower than the capacitance (497.9 F g−1), which means a high rate performance. Moreover, asymmetric supercapacitor devices are assembled with activated carbon (NiCo@Si 1 -C//AC) with an energy density of 11.7 Wh kg−1, even at a high power density of 14,000.7 W kg−1. The Mn-doped polyacrylonitrile (PAN)–2-methylimidazole (2MI) solution was electrospun using optimized Mn concentrations and ZIF-67 was then surface loaded by wet impregnation with added polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). These ZIF-67 loaded Mn-fibers, when annealed, resulted in carbon-coated C/Co-CoO x nanotubes on the Mn-CNF surface. In the presence of PVP, ZIF-67 oriented attachment occurs, forming evenly dispersed CoO x particles even after high temperature annealing. XRD spectra exhibit the formation of metallic Co nanoparticles (NPs), whereas Raman spectra and XPS indicate Co particle oxidation. A carbon coating limits the oxidation of Co; thus, the particles are called C/Co-CoO x. A symmetric supercapacitor cell prepared using the CNFs decorated with C/Co-CoO x using an aqueous electrolyte has a capacitance of 1263 mF⋅cm−2 at a current density of 0.25 mA⋅cm−2 and a wide potential window of 1.4 V for the optimal case. Long-term cycling showed 110 % capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles. Designing cathode and anode materials that can accommodate capacity and rate performance is a significant challenge in developing lithium-ion capacitors (LICs). Herein, we synthesize a unique N/S dual-doped hierarchical porous carbon (NSC) under the effect of pore distribution modification and heteroatom doping. The nanosheet shape and pore distribution of NSC are highly adjustable, while it demonstrates a reversible capacity that is tens of times more than that of unaltered pristine active carbon. Meanwhile, the prepared glycerol-engineered polyacrylonitrile nanofiber (GPN) form a fast conducting network in the presence of glycerol and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and exhibit a 300% higher capacity compared to pure polyacrylonitrile nanofibers at 5 A g−1. On this premise, the constructed highly stable LIC (NSC//GPN x @CNTs) can achieve an energy density of 131.48 Wh kg−1 and have an excellent capacity retention rate (93.5%) over 10,000 cycles at a high current density (5 A g−1). This work may lead to new avenues for the preparation of heteroatom-doped porous carbon and redefine the electrode matching of highly stable LICs. Polyimide (PI) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) blend electrospun fibers are prepared by electrospinning process. PI/PVC electrospun fibers exhibit a certain degree of phase separation due to the incomplete compatibility of PI and PVC in N , N '-dimethylformamide. PI/PVC based carbon nanofibers with opening tubular structure can be obtained via thermally induced phase separation. The effect of precursor composition on the morphology and pore structure of carbon nanofibers is investigated by theoretical calculation and structural analysis. The relationship between pore structure and electrochemical performance of carbon nanofibers is studied significantly. Opening tubular structure carbon nanofibers derived from PI: PVC (mass ratio = 1: 1) electrospun fibers show suitable average pore diameter (5.12 nm), high BET specific surface area (1127.1 m2∙g−1) and large total pore capacity (0.65 cm3∙g−1). And opening tubular structure carbon fibers as electrodes in ionic liquid electrolyte exhibits a wide electrochemical stability window (3.5 V), high energy density (30.1 Wh∙kg−1), good power density (2685.5 W∙kg−1) and low internal resistance (2.1 Ω). In this article, vanadium nitride quantum dot/nitrogen-doped microporous carbon nanofibers (VNQD/CNF) is developed by a method of combination of electrostatic spinning and high-temperature calcination under the atmosphere of NH 3 : N 2 = 3: 2 for high performance supercapacitors. VNQD dispersing into CNF, enrichment of N atom doped in carbon bulk, and abundant porous structure not only prevent the growth and aggregation of VN nanoparticles, improve electrical conductivity, wettability, and stability of the electrode materials, but also enhance fast migration of electrolyte ions during the electrochemical process. Thus, VNQD/CNF exhibits a high specific capacitance of 406.5 F g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 and a good rate capability with a capacitance retention of 75.1% at 5.0 A g −1 . Additionally, VNQD/CNF as a negative electrode are combined with Ni(OH) 2 as a positive electrode to fabricate the hybrid supercapacitor of VNQD/CNF//Ni(OH) 2 . It is found that Co/CoFe NAs@NCNFs has a good half-wave potential of 0.83 V for ORR, the overpotential of 290 mV and 103 mV for OER and HER, respectively. When Co/CoFe NAs@NCNFs catalyst is employed on the cathode of a microbial fuel cell (MFC), the peak power density of the MFC can reach 2139.6 ± 43 mW m−2, which is 1.56 times better than that of commercial Pt/C. Furthermore, the assembled MFCs can also successfully drive the water splitting. The above excellent performance is mainly due to the structure of the interwoven NCNF networks combined with nanosheets which greatly enhances the surface area and mass transfer capacity of the material, and the loaded nanoparticles are constructed into a large number of Fe-N x -C and Co-N x -C active sites, further increasing the catalytic performance of Co/CoFe NAs@NCNFs. Currently, the commercial applications of MFCs are mainly constricted by the relatively lower power density derived from poor electroactive bacteria (EAB) adhesion and sluggish extracellular electron transfer (EET) at the anode interface. To address this issue, herein, hollow cobalt ferrite nanofibers integrating with carbon nanotubes (CoFe 2 O 4 /CNTs) are fabricated as an efficient anode electrocatalyst via simple electrospinning, pyrolysis, and in-situ hybrid process. Interestingly, the CoFe 2 O 4 /CNTs electrocatalysts with a continuously interconnected network not only strengthen the interfacial affinity with EAB but also promote the electron transfer efficiency between the anode and EAB, which endows the MFCs with a maximum power density of 2290 mW m−2, far exceeding the referential CoFe 2 O 4 (1458 mW m−2) and carbon cloth (496.7 mW m−2) anode. The outstanding power density can be attributed to the continuous porous scaffold, remarkable electrocatalytic activity toward the redox reactions in the biofilm, and positively charged cations with multiple valence states on the CoFe 2 O 4 /CNTs electrocatalyst, favoring the negatively charged Geobacter adhesion, colonization, and mediating long-distance EET across the thick biofilm. Manganese oxides have attracted great interest as promising pseudocapacitive materials due to its low cost, variable oxidation states, and high theoretical capacitance. In this work, we report the in-situ synthesis of MnO-dispersed carbon nanofibers (CNFs) using electrospinning and a unique two-step carbonization technique. While the single-step carbonization resulted in mixed Mn x O y forms, however, by employing a suitable and optimized two-step carbonization, we were able to obtain CNFs assimilated with MnO nanoparticles (MnO-CNFs). The synthesized MnO-CNF electrodes achieved a high specific capacitance of 246 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 in a three-electrode system. A symmetric supercapacitor device assembled with these electrodes exhibited remarkable electrochemical performance with a maximum power density of 5000 W kg−1, maximum energy density of 14 W h kg−1, and an excellent cycling stability (97.5% retention after 10,000 cycles). A green electrode material with dual conductive networks via electrospinning with carbonization and co-precipitation method is constructed. Nitrogen-based carbon nanofiber network (CCP-N) is used as the inner-conductive, electrochemical-active substrate and flexible skeleton. The Co Ni layered double hydroxide (Co Ni LDH) nanosheets and flower-like nanospheres, which randomly and closely covering the surface of CCP-N, respectively, just as the fungus grow on trunks in nature, is regarded as outer-conductive and active substance collector in order to provide abundant active centers, sufficient reaction interface to advance fast electrolyte ions diffusion and electrons transport. Furthermore, the growth process of Co Ni LDH on CCP-N is observed by controlling growth time and the Co/Ni ratio of the precursor solution. It is found that the optimal Co/Ni ratio was 2:1, while that optimal growth time is 12 h. The specific capacitance of Co Ni LDH@CCP-N electrode reaches 1319.4 F g-1 at 1 A g-1. The assembled asymmetric supercapacitor device (CCP-N @ Co Ni LDH//CCP-N) possesses a high energy density of 48.1 W h kg-1 at power density of 576.8 W kg-1, excellent cycling stability of 82.2% retention after 10,000 cycles. The results clearly indicate the Co Ni LDH@CCP-N materials have enormously potential in energy storage. This work puts forward a novel strategy for the design and fabrication of green and advanced supercapacitors materials with high power density and energy density.
