In this letter we present a scan for new vacua within consistent truncations of eleven/ten-dimensional supergravity down to five dimensions that preserve N = 2 supersymmetry, after their complete classification in [1]. We first make explicit the link between the equations of exceptional Sasaki-Einstein backgrounds in [2] and the standard BPS equations for 5d N = 2 of [3]. This derivation allows us to expedite a scan for vacua preserving N = 2 supersymmetry within the framework used for the classification presented in [1]. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We find a new class of N = 1 no-scale supergravity models with F- and D-term supersymmetry breaking, using a new Fayet-Iliopoulos term. The minimal setup contains one U (1) vector multiplet and one neutral chiral multiplet parametrizing S L (2 , R) / U (1) manifold, with constant superpotential and linear gauge kinetic function. In our construction the FI term is field-dependent, and one can obtain flat vanishing potential (Minkowski vacuum) with broken SUSY, and global S L (2 , R) invariance (self-duality) of the bosonic equations of motion. The spectrum of the model includes a massive spin-1/2 field as well as a vector, a scalar, and a pseudo-scalar – all classically massless. As an extension of the recent construction of generalised Fayet-Iliopoulos terms in N = 1 supergravity given in [1] , we present self-interactions for a vector multiplet coupled to conformal supergravity. In this note we study supergravity models with constrained superfields. We construct a supergravity framework in which all (super)symmetry breaking dynamics happen in vacuum with naturally (or otherwise asymptotically) vanishing energy. Supersymmetry is generically broken in multiple sectors each of them is parametrized by a nilpotent goldstino superfield. Dynamical fields (the Higgs, inflaton, etc) below the supersymmetry breaking scale are constrained superfields of various types. In this framework, there is a dominant supersymmetry breaking sector which uplifts the potential to zero value. Other sources of supersymmetry breaking have (asymptotically) vanishing contribution to vacuum energy such that supersymmetry is locally restored. Demanding vanishing vacuum energy constrains the structure of the superpotential and Kahler potential; there is a superpotential term for each secluded sector directly interacting with a nilpotent superfield and the Kahler potential must have a shift symmetry along Higgs field directions. This structure is inspired by elements that appear in string theory. We also study the Higgs dynamics during inflation and show that the swampland Festina Lente bound could be realized in this framework. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We note that the typical gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking is in tension with the global limit of the festina lente swampland bound. The alternatives are mediation/breaking schemes that decouple together with gravity, as for example gravity mediation, for which we highlight some basic phenomenological properties. We propose a modification of no-scale supergravity models which incorporates sgoldstino stabilization and supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking with a tunable cosmological constant by introducing a Kähler potential which yields a kinetic pole of order one. The resulting scalar potential may develop an inflection point, close to which an inflationary period can be realized for subplanckian field values consistently with the observational data. For central value of the spectral index n s , the necessary tuning is of the order of 10 − 6 , the tensor-to-scalar ratio r is tiny whereas the running of n s , a s , is around − 3 ⋅ 10 − 3. We show that the horizon geometry for supersymmetric black hole solutions of minimal five-dimensional gauged supergravity is that of a particular Einstein-Cartan-Weyl (ECW) structure in three dimensions, involving the trace and traceless part of both torsion and nonmetricity, and obeying some precise constraints. In the limit of zero cosmological constant, the set of nonlinear partial differential equations characterizing this ECW structure reduces correctly to that of a hyper-CR Einstein-Weyl structure in the Gauduchon gauge, which was shown by Dunajski, Gutowski and Sabra to be the horizon geometry in the ungauged BPS case. We consider conformal defect solutions in four dimensional N = 2 gauged supergravity. These solutions are constructed as a warped product of A d S 2 × S 1 over an interval with non-trivial electric and magnetic fields. We show for minimal gauged supergravity and for gauged supergravity with vector multiplets and abelian gauging that supersymmetric defect solutions are only possible when the geometry has a conical defect in either the bulk or the boundary metric. Abstract N = 3 Weyl multiplet in four dimensions was first constructed in J. van Muiden et al. (2017) where the authors used the current multiplet approach to obtain the linearized transformation rules and completed the non-linear variations using the superconformal algebra. The multiplet of currents was obtained by a truncation of the multiplet of currents for the N = 4 vector multiplet. While the procedure seems to be correct, the result suffers from several inconsistencies. The inconsistencies are observed in the transformation rules as well as the field dependent structure constants in the corresponding soft algebra. Abstract Within the framework of (2 , 0) anti-de Sitter (AdS) supersymmetry in three dimensions, we propose a multiplet of higher-spin currents. Making use of this supercurrent, we construct two off-shell gauge formulations for a massless multiplet of half-integer superspin (s + 1 2) , for every integer s > 0. In the s = 1 case, one formulation describes the linearised action for (2 , 0) anti-de Sitter supergravity, while the other gives the type III minimal supergravity action in (2 , 0) AdS superspace, with both linearised supergravity actions originally derived in arXiv:1109.0496. We formulate topologically massive higher-spin supermultiplets in (2 , 0) AdS superspace. Our results admit a natural extension to the case of S 3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Previously, two of the present authors obtained the decoupling limit and the corresponding throat geometry of non-supersymmetric D3 brane solution of type IIB string theory. In analogy with the supersymmetric case, it describes the gravity dual of a non-supersymmetric gauge theory with QCD-like properties such as running coupling and confinement (or mass gap) in certain range of its parameters. In this paper, we consider a 'black' version of the non-supersymmetric D3 brane solution in the decoupling limit and use this gravity background to holographically compute the expectation value of a time-like Wilson loop which, in turn, is related to the potential of a heavy quark-antiquark pair. By boosting the gravity solution along one of the brane directions and placing the pair at an arbitrary orientation with this direction, we numerically obtain the variation of the screening length as well as the potential with velocity, its orientation with respect to the direction of motion and other parameters of the theory. Remarkably enough, our results are in qualitative agreement with those obtained holographically in supersymmetric gauge theories indicating that these features are quite robust and universal as they are insensitive to the presence of any supersymmetry in the theory. The clockwork mechanism would be completely spoiled by the presence of a cosmological constant in the bulk of its 5D construction, or by analogous terms in the discrete case. It is believed that supersymmetry is required to forbid the appearance of these fatal terms, thus apparently tying the fate of the clockwork to the presence of supersymmetry. In this letter we argue that a robust clockwork can be obtained also without supersymmetry, by providing a model for the clockwork/linear dilaton EFT where this protection is instead related to diffeomorphism invariance in a higher number of extra dimensions. We show that the clockwork mechanism is a quite general setup that emerges, rather minimally, from pure gravity in the presence of D − 5 additional sufficiently flat extra dimensions. The linear dilaton model is obtained asymptotically in the limit of infinitely many extra dimensions. We then study the finite- D theory, which is a deformation of the linear dilaton one, but still a clockwork theory for D large enough. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We initiate the classification of supersymmetric solutions of type II supergravity on R 1 , 2 × S 3 × M 4 . We find explicit local expressions for all backgrounds with either a single Killing spinor or two of equal norm, up to PDE's. We show that the only type II AdS × 4 S 3 solution is the known N = 4 AdS 4 background obtained from the near-horizon limit of intersecting D2–D6 branes. Various known branes and intersecting brane systems are recovered, and we obtain a novel class of R 1 , 2 × S 2 × S 3 solutions in IIA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on recent discussions on the so-called unconventional supersymmetry, we propose a 5D Chern–Simons AdS- N -SUGRA formulation without gravitino fields and show that a residual local SUSY is preserved. We explore the properties of CS theories to find a solution to the field equations in a 5D manifold. With a Randall–Sundrum-type ansatz, we show that this particular dimensional reduction is compatible with SUSY, and some classes of 4D solutions are then analyzed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently proposed exceptional field theories (EFTs) making manifest the duality E n ( n ) symmetry, first observed as nonlinearly realized symmetries of the maximal d = 3 , 4 , . . . , 9 supergravity ( n = 11 − d ) and containing 11D and type IIB supergravity as sectors, were formulated in enlarged spacetimes. In the case of E 7 ( 7 ) EFT such an enlarged spacetime can be identified with the bosonic body of the d = 4 central charge superspace Σ ( 60 | 32 ) , the N = 8 d = 4 superspace completed by 56 additional bosonic coordinates associated to central charges of the maximal d = 4 supersymmetry algebra. In this paper we show how the hypothesis on the relation of all the known E n ( n ) EFTs, including n = 8 , with supersymmetry leads to the conjecture on existence of 11D exceptional field theory living in 11D tensorial central charge superspace Σ ( 528 | 32 ) and underlying all the E n ( n ) EFTs with n = 2 , . . . , 8 , and probably the double field theory (DFT). We conjecture the possible form of the section conditions of such an 11D EFT and show that quite generic solutions of these can be generated by superparticle models the ground states of which preserve from one half to all but one supersymmetry. The properties of these superparticle models are briefly discussed. We argue that, upon quantization, their quantum states should describe free massless non-conformal higher spin fields in D = 11 . The N = 2 ⁎ supersymmetric gauge theory is a massive deformation of N = 4 , in which the adjoint hypermultiplet gets a mass. We present a D-brane realisation of the (non-)Abelian N = 2 ⁎ theory, and compute suitable topological amplitudes, which are expressed as a double series expansion. The coefficients determine couplings of higher-dimensional operators in the effective supergravity action that involve powers of the anti-self-dual N = 2 chiral Weyl superfield and of self-dual gauge field strengths superpartners of the D5-brane coupling modulus. In the field theory limit, the result reproduces the Nekrasov partition function in the two-parameter Ω -background, in agreement with a recent proposal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We examine the stability of some non-supersymmetric supergravity solutions that have been found recently. The first solution is A d S 5 × M 6 , for M 6 an stretched C P 3 . We consider breathing and squashing mode deformations of the metric, and find that the solution is stable against small fluctuations of this kind. Next we consider type IIB solution of A d S 2 × M 8 , where the compact space is a U ( 1 ) bundle over N ( 1 , 1 ) . We study its stability under the deformation of M 8 and the 5-form flux. In this case we also find that the solution is stable under small fluctuation modes of the corresponding deformations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study the grand unification model flipped S U ( 5 ) with additional vector-like particle multiplets, or F - S U ( 5 ) for short, in the framework of General No-Scale Supergravity. In our analysis we allow the supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking soft terms to be generically non-zero, thereby extending the phenomenologically viable parameter space beyond the highly constrained one-parameter version of F - S U ( 5 ) . In this initial inquiry, the mSUGRA/CMSSM SUSY breaking terms are implemented. We find this easing away from the vanishing SUSY breaking terms enables a more broad mass range of vector-like particles, dubbed flippons, including flippons less than 1 TeV that could presently be observed at the LHC2, as well as a lighter gluino mass and SUSY spectrum overall. This presents heightened odds that the General No-Scale F - S U ( 5 ) viable parameter space can be probed at the LHC2. The phenomenology comprises both bino and higgsino dark matter, including a Higgs funnel region. Particle states emerging from the SUSY cascade decays are presented to experimentally distinguish amongst the diverse phenomenological regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we analyse non-supersymmetric single centred extremal black hole solutions in N = 2 supergravity theory coupled to n vector multiplets with purely cubic pre-potential in four dimensions. We consider the algebraic attractor equations in their most general form at the black hole horizon. We explicitly construct a new class of solutions for these attractor equations. These solutions are characterised by a set of involutory matrices. These involutions are obtained from a constraint involving the parameters in the pre-potential and generate new attractor points in the moduli space. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We explore the Euclidean supersymmetric solutions admitting the self-dual gauge field in the framework of N = 2 minimal gauged supergravity in four dimensions. According to the classification scheme utilizing the spinorial geometry or the bilinears of Killing spinors, the general solution preserves one quarter of supersymmetry and is described by the Przanowski–Tod class with the self-dual Weyl tensor. We demonstrate that there exists an additional Killing spinor, provided the Przanowski–Tod metric admits a Killing vector that commutes with the principal one. The proof proceeds by recasting the metric into another Przanowski–Tod form. This formalism enables us to show that the self-dual Reissner–Nordström–Taub–NUT–AdS metric possesses a second Killing spinor, which has been missed over many years. We also address the supersymmetry when the Przanowski–Tod space is conformal to each of the self-dual ambi-toric Kähler metrics. It turns out that three classes of solutions are all reduced to the self-dual Carter family, by virtue of the nondegenerate Killing–Yano tensor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present letter we indicate an extension of the pure gravity inverse scattering integration technique to the case when fermions (introduced on the base of supersymmetry) are present. In this way the integrability technique for simple ( N = 1 ) supergravity in two space-time dimensions coupled to the matter fields taking values in the Lie algebra of E 8 ( + 8 ) group is developed. This theory contains matter living only in one Weyl representation of S O ( 16 ) and represents the reduction to two dimensions of the three-dimensional simple supergravity constructed in [1] . Our spectral linear problem use superspace and covers the complete set of principal bosonic and fermionic equations of motion. This linear system, as in pure gravity, contains only the first order poles with respect to the spectral parameter. The procedure of constructing the exact super-solitonic solutions is outlined. The supersymmetric realization of inflation in F -term supergravity is usually plagued by the well known “ η ” problem. In this paper, a broad class of small-field examples is realized by employing general O' Raifeartaigh superpotentials, where the moduli is identified as the massless inflaton. Recently it has been shown by us that, like BPS D p branes, bulk gravity gets decoupled from the brane even for the non-susy D p branes of type II string theories indicating a possible extension of AdS/CFT correspondence for the non-supersymmetric case. In that work, the decoupling of gravity on the non-susy D p branes has been shown numerically for the general case as well as analytically for some special case. Here we discuss the decoupling limit and the throat geometry of the non-susy D3 brane when the charge associated with the brane is very large. We show that in the decoupling limit the throat geometry of the non-susy D3 brane, under appropriate coordinate change, reduces to the Constable–Myers solution and thus confirming that this solution is indeed the holographic dual of a (non-gravitational) gauge theory discussed there. We also show that when one of the parameters of the solution takes a specific value, it reduces, under another coordinate change, to the five-dimensional solution obtained by Csaki and Reece, again confirming its gauge theory interpretation. We explore the construction of supersymmetric solutions of theories of N = 2 , d = 4 supergravity with a SU ( 2 ) gauging and SU ( 2 ) Fayet–Iliopoulos terms. In these theories an SU ( 2 ) isometry subgroup of the Special-Kähler manifold is gauged together with a SU ( 2 ) R-symmetry subgroup. We construct several solutions of the CP ‾ 3 quadratic model directly in four dimensions and of the ST [ 2 , 6 ] model by dimensional reduction of the solutions found by Cariglia and Mac Conamhna in N = ( 1 , 0 ) , d = 6 supergravity with the same kind of gauging. In the CP ‾ 3 model, we construct an AdS 2 × S 2 solution which is only 1/8 BPS and an R × H 3 solutions that also preserves 1 of the 8 possible supersymmetries. We show how to use dimensional reduction as in the ungauged case to obtain R n × S m and also AdS n × S m -type solutions (with different radii) in 5- and 4-dimensions from the 6-dimensional AdS 3 × S 3 solution. We describe minimal supergravity models where supersymmetry is non-linearly realized via constrained superfields. We show that the resulting actions differ from the so called “de Sitter” supergravities because we consider constraints eliminating directly the auxiliary fields of the gravity multiplet. Inflation with plateau potentials give the best fit to the CMB observables as they predict tensor to scalar ratio stringently bounded by the observations from Planck and BICEP2/Keck. In supergravity models it is possible to obtain plateau potentials for scalar fields in the Einstein frame which can serve as the inflation potential by considering higher dimensional Planck suppressed operators and by the choice of non-canonical Kähler potentials. We construct a plateau inflation model in MSSM where the inflation occurs along a sneutrino-Higgs flat direction. A hidden sector Polonyi field is used for the breaking of supersymmetry after the end of the inflation. The proper choice of superpotential leads to strong stabilization of the Polonyi field, m Z 2 ≫ m 3 / 2 2 , which is required to solve the cosmological moduli problem. Also, the SUSY breaking results in a TeV scale gravitino mass and scalar masses and gives rise to bilinear and trilinear couplings of scalars which can be tested at the LHC. The sneutrino inflation field can be observed at the LHC as a TeV scale diphoton resonance like the one reported by CMS and ATLAS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

I discuss the role of quantum effects in the phenomenology of effective supergravity theories from compactification of the weakly coupled heterotic string. An accurate incorporation of these effects requires a regularization procedure that respects local supersymmetry and BRST invariance and that retains information associated with the cut-off scale, which has physical meaning in an effective theory. I briefly outline the Pauli–Villars regularization procedure, describe some applications, and comment on what remains to be done to fully define the effective quantum field theory. We propose a limited class of models, describing interacting chiral multiplets with a non-minimal coupling to a vector multiplet, in curved superspace of N = 1 supergravity. Those models are suitable for the inflationary model building in supergravity with inflaton assigned to a massive vector multiplet and spontaneous SUSY breaking in Minkowski vacuum after inflation, for any values of the inflationary parameters n s and r , and any scale of SUSY breaking. We explored a Higgs inflationary scenario in the SUGRA embedding of the MSSM in Einstein frame where the inflaton is contained in the S U ( 2 ) Higgs doublet. We include all higher order non-renormalizable terms to the MSSM superpotential and an appropriate Kähler potential which can provide slow-roll inflaton potential in the D -flat direction. In this model, a plateau-like inflation potential can be obtained if the imaginary part of the neutral Higgs acts as the inflaton. The inflationary predictions of this model are consistent with the latest CMB observations. The model represents a successful Higgs inflation scenario in the context of Supergravity and it is compatible with Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Refining previous work by Iso, Kawai and Kitazawa, we discuss bi-local string states as a tool for loop computations in noncommutative field theory and matrix models. Defined in terms of coherent states, they exhibit the stringy features of noncommutative field theory. This leads to a closed form for the 1-loop effective action in position space, capturing the long-range non-local UV/IR mixing for scalar fields. The formalism applies to generic fuzzy spaces. The non-locality is tamed in the maximally supersymmetric IKKT or IIB model, where it gives rise to supergravity. In this note we present a solution of N = 4 , d = 7 gauged supergravity which is holographically dual to a co-dimension two defect living in a six dimensional SCFT. The solution is obtained by double analytic continuation of a two charge supersymmetric black hole solution. The condition that no conical deficits are present in the bulk and on the boundary is satisfied by a one parameter family of solutions for which some holographic observables are computed. We analyse super non-Abelian T-duality for principal chiral models, symmetric space sigma models, and semi-symmetric space sigma models for general Lie supergroups. This includes T-duality along both bosonic and fermionic directions. As an example, we perform the explicit dualisation of the OSp (1 | 2) principal chiral model, and, whilst the target superspace of this model is a three-dimensional supergravity background, we find that its super non-Abelian T-dual falls outside the class of such backgrounds. We study the cohomology of the massless BRST complex of the Type IIB pure spinor superstring in flat space. In particular, we find that the cohomology at the ghost number three is nontrivial and transforms in the same representation of the supersymmetry algebra as the solutions of the linearized classical supergravity equations. Modulo some finite dimensional spaces, the ghost number three cohomology is the same as the ghost number two cohomology. In pure gravity mediation (PGM), the most minimal scheme for the mediation of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking to the visible sector, soft masses for the standard model gauginos are generated at one loop rather than via direct couplings to the SUSY-breaking field. In any concrete implementation of PGM, the SUSY-breaking field is therefore required to carry nonzero charge under some global or local symmetry. As we point out in this note, a prime candidate for such a symmetry might be B – L , the Abelian gauge symmetry associated with the difference between baryon number B and lepton number L . The F-term of the SUSY-breaking field then not only breaks SUSY, but also B – L , which relates the respective spontaneous breaking of SUSY and B – L at a fundamental level. As a particularly interesting consequence, we find that the heavy Majorana neutrino mass scale ends up being tied to the gravitino mass, Λ N ∼ m 3 / 2 . Assuming nonthermal leptogenesis to be responsible for the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the universe, this connection may then explain why SUSY necessarily needs to be broken at a rather high energy scale, so that m 3 / 2 ≳ 1000 TeV in accord with the concept of PGM. We illustrate our idea by means of a minimal model of dynamical SUSY breaking, in which B – L is identified as a weakly gauged flavor symmetry. We also discuss the effect of the B – L gauge dynamics on the superparticle mass spectrum as well as the resulting constraints on the parameter space of our model. In this note we revisit Hitchin's prescription [1] of the Fisher metric as a natural measure on the moduli space of instantons that encodes the space–time symmetries of a classical field theory. Motivated by the idea of the moduli space of supersymmetric instantons as an emergent space in the sense of the gauge/gravity duality, we extend the prescription to encode also global symmetries of the underlying theory. We embed general f ( R ) inflationary models in minimal supergravity plus matter, a single chiral superfield Φ, with or without another superfield S , via a Jordan frame Einstein+scalar description. In particular, inflationary models like a generalized Starobinsky one are analyzed and constraints on them are found. We also embed the related models of conformal inflation, also described as Jordan frame Einstein+scalar models, in particular the conformal inflation from the Higgs model, and analyze the inflationary constraints on them. We build the minimal supergravity model where the nilpotent chiral goldstino superfield is coupled to a chiral matter superfield, realising a different non-linear representation through a mixed nilpotency constraint. The model describes the spontaneous breaking of local supersymmetry in the presence of a generically massive Majorana fermion, but in the absence of elementary scalars. We show that a supersymmetric renormalizable theory based on gauge group SO ( 10 ) and Higgs system 10 ⊕ 210 ⊕ 126 ⊕ 126 ‾ with no scale supergravity can lead to a Starobinsky kind of potential for inflation. Successful inflation is possible in the cases where the potential during inflation corresponds to SU ( 3 ) C × SU ( 2 ) L × SU ( 2 ) R × U ( 1 ) B - L , SU ( 5 ) × U ( 1 ) and flipped SU ( 5 ) × U ( 1 ) intermediate symmetry with a suitable choice of superpotential parameters. The reheating in such a scenario can occur via non-perturbative decay of inflaton i.e. through “preheating”. We present the construction of the D = 3 Chern–Simons supergravity action without cosmological constant from the minimal Maxwell superalgebra s M 3 . This superalgebra contains two Majorana fermionic charges and can be obtained from the osp ( 2 | 1 ) ⊗ sp ( 2 ) superalgebra using the abelian semigroup expansion procedure. Motivated by their applications to holographic RG flows and hairy black holes in Einstein-scalar systems, we present a collection of superpotentials driving the dynamics of N = 2 and N = 1 four-dimensional supergravities. These theories arise as consistent truncations of the electric/magnetic families of CSO ( p , q , r ) c maximal supergravities, with p + q + r = 8 , discovered by Dall'Agata et al. The N = 2 and N = 1 truncations describe SU ( 3 ) and Z 2 × SO ( 3 ) invariant sectors, respectively, and contain AdS 4 solutions preserving N = 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 supersymmetry within the full theories, as well as various gauge symmetries. Realisations in terms of non-geometric type IIB as well as geometric massive type IIA backgrounds are also discussed. The aim of this note is to provide easy to handle superpotentials that facilitate the study of gravitational and gauge aspects of the CSO ( p , q , r ) c maximal supergravities avoiding the technicalities required in their construction. In this paper we discuss the uniqueness of supersymmetric attractors in four-dimensional N = 2 supergravity theories coupled to n vector multiplets. We prove that for a given charge configuration the supersymmetry preserving axion free attractors are unique. We generalise the analysis to axionic attractors and state the conditions for uniqueness explicitly. We consider the example of a two-parameter model and find all solutions to the supersymmetric attractor equations and discuss their uniqueness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We investigate α ′ -corrections of heterotic double field theory up to quadratic order in the language of supersymmetric O ( D , D + dim ⁡ G ) gauged double field theory. After introducing double-vielbein formalism with a parametrization which reproduces heterotic supergravity, we show that supersymmetry for heterotic double field theory up to leading order α ′ -correction is obtained from supersymmetric gauged double field theory. We discuss the necessary modifications of the symmetries defined in supersymmetric gauged double field theory. Further, we construct supersymmetric completion at quadratic order in α ′ . In a very recent preprint, Witten showed how to construct a g | r × g | r super period matrix for super Riemann surfaces of genus g with 2 r Ramond punctures, which is symmetric in the Z 2 graded sense. He also showed how it can be applied to analyze supersymmetry breaking in string compactifications which are supersymmetric at tree-level. Witten's construction is in the purely holomorphic formulation of super Riemann surfaces. In this paper, a construction is given in the formulation of two-dimensional supergravity. The variations of the super period matrix with respect to supermoduli deformations are also given, as well as an explicit illustration of how the super period matrix with two Ramond punctures would emerge from a degeneration of the super period matrix without punctures in higher genus. N = 1 , D = 4 nonlinear sigma models, parametrized by chiral superfields, usually describe Kählerian geometries, provided that Einstein frame supergravity is used. The sigma model metric is no longer Kähler when local supersymmetry becomes nonlinearly realized through the nilpotency of the supergravity auxiliary fields. In some cases the nonlinear realization eliminates one scalar propagating degree of freedom. This happens when the sigma model conformal-frame metric has co-rank 2. In the geometry of the inflaton, this effect eliminates its scalar superpartner. We discuss general bosonic configurations of four-dimensional N = 2 supergravity coupled to vector multiplets in (t , s) space-time. The supergravity theories with Euclidean and neutral signature are described by the so-called para-special Kähler geometry. For extremal solutions, we derive in a unified fashion, using the equations of motion, the flow equations for all space-time signatures. Demanding that the solutions with neutral and Euclidean signatures admit unbroken supersymmetry, we derive the constraints, known as the stabilisation equations, on the para-covariantly holomorphic sections expressed in terms of the adapted coordinates. The stabilisation equations expressed in terms of the para-complex sections imply generalised flow equations in terms of para-complex central charge. For Euclidean and neutral signature, it is demonstrated that solutions for either signs of gauge kinetic terms are mapped into each other via field redefinitions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We use the framework of supersymmetric transformations in the construction of coupled systems of Dirac fermions. Its energy operator is a composite of the generators of the associated superalgebra, and the two coupled Dirac fermions acquire different Fermi velocities. We discuss in detail the peculiar spectral properties of the new system. The emergent phenomena like level crossing or generation of bound states in the continuum (BICs) are illustrated in two explicit examples. • Solvable system of two coupled Dirac fermions is constructed with the use of supersymmetry-inspired integrals of motion. • The two Dirac fermions have different Fermi velocities. • Coupled system has much richer spectral properties than its uncoupled constituents. • Dependently on the coupling, there can emerge bound states in the continuum (BICs). We study solutions to the eleven-dimensional supergravity action, including terms quartic and cubic in the Riemann curvature, that admit an eight-dimensional compact space. The internal background is found to be a conformally Kähler manifold with vanishing first Chern class. The metric solution, however, is non-Ricci-flat even when allowing for a conformal rescaling including the warp factor. This deviation is due to the possible non-harmonicity of the third Chern-form in the leading order Ricci-flat metric. We present a systematic derivation of the background solution by solving the Killing spinor conditions including higher curvature terms. These are translated into first-order differential equations for a globally defined real two-form and complex four-form on the fourfold.
