• This study presents an extensive systematic literature review on WD recognition. • A set of 94 research articles published between 2005–2022 has been selected for analysis. • A framework has been proposed to classify the research articles into four categories. Due to wheat diseases (WD), the global rate of wheat production is decreasing by 3.6% annually. With the help of computer vision technology, WD recognition is not a challenging task but motivates the concepts of image processing, image segmentation, feature extraction, and AI-based recognition models. The objective of this study is to review and systematically analyze studies that have been published between 2005 and 2022. The authors make an effort to determine the important developments in image segmentation models, tools, datasets, and comparative analysis for the accuracy of the recognition model. The current study follows the standard systematic literature review (SLR) approach and selects 638 studies from five different web source databases. Among 638 studies, 544 studies were discarded in the study extraction process. A total number of 94 studies have been published in 45 reputed journals, and 49 conferences that have been identified with evaluation, validation, proposed, and philosophical criteria. After analysis, ten types of image segmentation models were identified. The most prominent clustering-based image segmentation technique (34.78%) is used for powdery mildew and stripe rust WD recognition. During WD recognition, the accuracy performance parameter is found to be most prominent. China and India are the two countries on the Asian continent that contribute to WD recognition. The current study summarizes the findings of WD research and highlights the need for standard datasets and accuracy. The age of emplacement and geochemistry of the lamprophyres are of tectonic significance as they have potential to unravel global scale geodynamic processes. We present petrology, U-Pb SHRIMP apatite and titanite ages and bulk-rock Sr-Nd isotope data for an unmetamorphosed and undeformed lamprophyre dyke from the Simdega area of the Chhotanagpur Gneissic Complex (CGC) which is a component of the E -W trending Central Indian Tectonic Zone (CITZ), India. The CITZ is a major intercontinental suture which separates the northern Indian and the southern Indian blocks whose polarity of their subduction is a contentious issue. The lamprophyre exhibits a strong porphyritic-panidiomorphic texture imparted by the megacrysts/phenocrysts of mica and amphibole with feldspar, apatite, titanite, zircon and opaques confined to the groundmass. Based on combined mineralogy and geochemistry, the lamprophyre is classified to be of calc-alkaline variety (minette) with shoshonitic affinities. Mg# (70.7–78.2) contents highlight the primitive melt character whereas incompatible trace element ratios exclude crustal contamination and are indistinguishable from those of the subduction-related global as well as Eastern Dharwar craton (southern India) calc-alkaline lamprophyres. U-Pb dating of apatite gave an emplacement age of 944 ± 82 Ma which is indistinguishable, within the error limits, from the U-Pb titanite age of 942.1 ± 5 Ma demonstrating a Neoproterozoic magmatic emplacement age of the lamprophyre synchronous with the Rodinia assembly. Bulk-rock 87Sr/86Sr initial (0.707239 and 0.708910) and ɛNd initial (-8.9 to -8.3) highlights the involvement of an enriched mantle source. Calculated Paleoproterozoic model ages (Nd depleted mantle) of 2.1 Ga of the lamprophyre are indistinguishable from those of the co-spatial amphibolite dykes. Petrogenetic modeling involving rare earth elements reveals that the derivation of the lamprophyre magma from 2 to 3% partial melting of a mixed garnet (70%) and spinel (30%) lherzolitic mantle source with minor phlogopite. Our study highlights that the western part of the CGC was less affected, relative to the eastern part, by the M3 regional amphibolite grade metamorphic event (ca. 920-880 Ma) and also supports the geodynamic models involving northward-directed subduction of the Southern Indian block under the Northern Indian block.- [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Groundwater is the most preferred source of water resource for the human needs. Over-exploitation of the groundwater has been led to the tremendous effect on the groundwater drought. Assessment of groundwater drought is difficult to understand due to its complexity, non-linearity feature. In this study, groundwater drought indices of the state of Bihar, India, have been modeled using machine learning technique. The prediction of SGI was done by using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Random Forest (RF) machine learning models. The best input combinations of Gravity Recovery and Climate experiment (GRACE) satellite water equivalent data, rainfall data and groundwater level data was used to predicted the SGI. In this study, SGI of 38 districts of Bihar was calculated using groundwater data from 2002 to 2019. The accuracy and efficiency of the RF and ANN models were measured based on the mean square error (MSE) and correlation coefficient value (r). Compared to two models are shown the RF model is a performs superior as compare to ANN model, which model superior is decided based on the correlation coefficient value (r) as 0.95 and MSE value of 0.11. Metamorphosed mafic dykes are significant stratigraphic markers which also represent a shift from extensional to compressional geodynamic processes. We present petrology, bulk-rock geochemistry, and Sr-Nd isotope data on nineteen E-W to ENE-WSW trending mafic dykes metamorphosed under amphibolite facies in the Simdega area in the south western domain of the Chhotanagpur Gneissic Complex (CGC). The CGC is widely regarded as an eastern extension of the Central Indian Tectonic Zone (CITZ) which separates the Northern Indian and the Southern Indian blocks. Calcic amphiboles and plagioclases are the dominant minerals whereas clinopyroxene (diopside), biotite, chlorite, quartz, apatite, titanite, ilmenite and magnetite are present in minor amounts. Relict igneous textures are also present in some of the samples. Conventional thermobarometry and pseudosection modelling gave consistent peak temperatures (619 ± 13 °C) and pressures (5.8 ± 0.1 kbar) corresponding to the amphibolite facies. Major oxide geochemistry of the studied samples show differentiation trends and display arc-tholeiitic, high Fe-tholeiitic, high Mg-tholeiitic and calc-alkaline characters. Based on the LREE and HREE fractionation (La N /Yb N , La N /Sm N and Gd N /Yb N) the studied samples can be classified into two broad groups: Group-I and Group II. In terms of the 87Sr/86Sr initial and 143Nd/144Nd initial contents, both the Group I and II samples are confined to an array of continental flood basalts and EM-1 and EM-2 reservoirs. The T DM (depleted mantle) model age of ca. 1.9 Ga suggest the source enrichment of the dykes during the Paleoproterozoic. Trace element ratios of both groups of the amphibolite dykes reveal that the (i) crustal contamination to be minimum, (ii) subduction-related fluid enrichment influenced their source regions, and (iii) mixed arc-, OIB-, and oceanic plateau- type geochemical signatures to be their characteristic features. Petrogenetic modelling involving REE suggest variable degrees of partial melting ranging from 5 to 10% for most of the samples of G-I and 1–3% for G-II dykes from a mixed source comprising predominantly of spinel lherzolite and minor amounts of garnet lherzolite. A three-stage model is proposed for the evolution of the CGC amphibolite dykes which involves: (i) sub-continental lithopheric mantle (SCLM) source enrichment due to the fluids derived from the subduction zone prior to ca. 1.9 Ga, (ii) emplacement of the mafic dykes in a post-collisional intra-continental extensional tectonic setting due interaction between the mantle plume and SCLM during the Tonian period at ca. 0.95 Ga and (iii) subsequent amphibolite facies thermal event at 0.92–0.88 Ga, associated with the amalgamation of the Rodinia supercontinent, that metamorphosed the mafic dykes as well as the much of the south-western part of CGC. Small hydropower projects (SHPs), though generally considered more environmentally benign and socially acceptable as compared to large projects, yet their overall sustainability is under suspicion in the Himalayan regions. Almost all SHPs in this region are being developed as run of the river mode which generally causes less/no submergence and quite less displacement of people as compared to large reservoir based hydropower production mode. However, in the absence of proper planning and monitoring mechanism, these projects are causing implacable tunnelling of hills, choking of streams, conversion of streams into dry ditches and long term socio-environmental impacts. This paper presents a SHP development study from hydro rich Beas river basin of Himachal Pradesh, a state nestled in western Himalayan region of India. In depth field studies, focus group discussions with the project affected people and interaction with project proponents of five SHPs in this region suggest that sustainability issues with respect to SHPs are not small vis-a-vis size of their installed capacity. There is an urgent need to take steps to include SHPs having an installed capacity of above 10 MW into the ambit of environment clearance process which is absent in many countries of the world at present. The 3-C deep seismic study with integrated interpretation of Bouguer gravity, heat flow, geological and geochronological studies along the Perur-Chikmagalur profile of the Dharwar Craton reveals important crustal elements with compositional distinctions of different geological structures such as horst and grabens, major shear zones like BSZ, CSZ, prominent batholiths as CG, granitic and gneissic complexes, presence of LVL, plutons, magmatic intrusives, thick underplating in WDC and significant Moho upwarping towards EDC due to plume head and komatiite magmatism. The Dharwar Craton of southern India is an important stable cratonic province of the world with complex geology and tectonic settings. Extensive studies provide insights of crustal velocity structure for the tectonic and geodynamic evolution of this Archean craton. This region has experienced several tectonically disturbed zones like Chitradurga Shear Zone (CSZ), Bababudan Shear Zone (BSZ) and Closepet Granites (CG). We have developed a comprehensive geologically plausible tectonic model using both P- and S-wave velocity structures to image major structural elements like shear zones and decipher the compositional distinctions of different rock assemblages of Western Dharwar Craton (WDC) and Eastern Dharwar Craton (EDC) part using 3-C wide-angle seismic data acquired along the 200-km long Perur-Chikmagalur deep seismic profile. The tectonic model show large compositional changes of subsurface rocks with anomalous high V P , V S , V P / V S , Poisson's ratio (σ) and density (ρ) forming a major tectonic divide or suture zone called CSZ between EDC and WDC blocks. Significant crustal thinning (37–41 km) is observed due to Moho upwarping towards the Neo-Archean EDC block mainly composed of felsic granites and granodiorites. The WDC block show relatively thick crust (48–50 km) due to mafic underplating and mantle plume activity below CSZ forming Meso-Archean greenschist-facies-gneisses with dominant mafic/ultra-mafic compositions. Hence, crustal velocity, density, heat-flow, geology and geochronology studies support a plume-arc model with evidence of thick magmatic underplating of the lower-crust, complex subduction and development of highly strained shear zones like CSZ as suture juxtaposing EDC and WDC blocks. Abstract: Any hydropower project whether mega, large or small is to be weighed for sustainability at the time of its inception. Without proper sustainability assessment, the project may face many problems during its construction or/and operational phase(s). Legally also, this aspect has been made mandatory in many countries across the globe to check the feasibility of the project from sustainability point of view beforehand. This study intends to emphasise sustainability of run of the river (RoR) hydropower projects in hydro rich regions of India where these types of projects are being undertaken on a large scale. In addition, this study has compiled a list of sustainability indicators which may be of use for policy makers and designers while planning RoR projects in hydro rich regions of India and similar regions throughout the world. Abstract: Objective: Unequivocal evidence suggests contribution of κ-opioid receptor (KOR) in addiction to drugs of abuse. A study was undertaken to identify the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) at selective areas of kappa opioid receptor 1 (OPRK1) gene in heroin as well as in alcohol addicts and to compare them with that in control population. The potential interaction of the identified KOR SNPs with A118G of μ opioid receptor was also investigated. Methods: Two hundred control subjects, one hundred thirty heroin and one hundred ten alcohol addicts, all male and residing in Kolkata, a city in eastern India, volunteered for the study. Exons 3 and 4 of OPRK1 and the SNP, A118G of mu opioid receptor 1 (OPRM1) in the DNA samples were genotyped by sequencing and restriction fragment length polymorphism respectively. The SNPs identified in the population were analyzed by odds ratio and its corresponding 95% confidence interval was estimated using logistic regression models. SNP–SNP interactions were also investigated. Results: Three SNPs of OPRK1, rs16918875, rs702764 and rs963549, were identified in the population, none of which showed significant association with addiction. On the other hand, significant association was observed for A118G with heroin addiction (χ2 =7.268, P=0.0264) as well as with alcoholic addition (χ2 =6.626, P=0.0364). A potential SNP–SNP interaction showed that the odds of being addicted was 2.51 fold in heroin subjects [CI (95%)=1.1524 to 5.4947, P=0.0206] and 2.31 fold in alcoholics [CI (95%)=1.025 to 5.24, P=0.0433] with the OPRK1 (rs16918875) and A118G risk alleles than without either. A significant interaction was also identified between GG/AG of A118G and GG of rs702764 [O.R (95%)=2.04 (1.279 to 3.287), P=0.0029] in case of opioid population. Conclusion: Our study suggests that set associations of polymorphisms may be important in determining the risk profile for complex diseases such as addiction. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• Overall, private school students have better learning outcomes than their government school counterparts in India. • Student's absenteeism in school and the time spent on homework after school are important determinants of their learning abilities. • The learning gap between private and government school students can be minimized by increasing their school attendance and time for homework. Do students attending private schools learn more and have higher cognitive abilities than their public school counterparts in India? Though some recent works have discussed this question, the empirical contours to address the issue remain unclear, particularly in a diversifying school education market in India. This paper examines the factors determining the inequality in children's learning outcomes (i.e., reading and math scores) in India using the second round of India Human Development Survey data. We examine the effect of a child's 'school absenteeism' and 'time spent for studying and doing homework' on learning outcomes, and how these explain the existing learning gap between private and government school children. We provide strong evidence that the children attending private schools have significantly better learning outcomes than their government school counterparts. However, this performance difference between private and government school-going children reduces with the increase in school attendance and the time spent in studying and doing homework by a child. The findings of the study implicate that the cognitive abilities of low performing government school students can be improved by reducing their absenteeism in schools and increasing time for studying and doing homework after school. • We present impact estimates of the National Dairy Plan-I on household and member welfare. • The study uses experimental and survey data from 28 villages and 7 sub-districts from Bihar, India • The market based interventions with links to value chain use two channels: income & female agency. • The income channel dhousehold outcomesbut didn't improve female & child outcomes. • Female agency channel magnified household welfare & extended program benefits to women & children. We combine the results of a laboratory experiment and survey of agricultural households to estimate the welfare impacts of a market-based intervention with links to value-chain. We investigate whether increased participation by women in such value-chains improves their relative bargaining power and therefore their ability to contribute to household welfare. We utilize the National Dairy Plan-I as an example to estimate pathways through which such interventions may affect household decision-making. We find that the program design significantly increased women's relative bargaining power within the household, which acts as an important channel for enhancing women's ability to contribute to household welfare through decision-making processes related to food, nutrition, branded food items, and child education. The instrumental variable estimates show that if value-chains are gender-neutral then direct program effects are significant but small. Participation in National Dairy Plan-I, on the other hand, improved women's relative bargaining power, allowing them to make substantial contribution to welfare. We show that when women's bargaining power mediates participation in value-chains, the nutrition elasticity rises from 0.26 to 0.94. While the impact on analytical ability (i.e., mathematics Z-score) is negligible in the absence of female agency, performance improves by 0.35σ when gendered element(s) of the program are allowed to act as a channel. Background Fragile X-associated Tremor/Ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) is a clinically heterogeneous disorder characterized predominantly by tremor, followed by late onset gait ataxia, autonomic dysfunction and/or cognitive impairment. We aimed to screen FMR1 -CGG repeats in our cohort of progressive late-onset cerebellar ataxia/tremor cohort to characterize the occurrence of FXTAS in India. Methods We have screened FMR1 -CGG repeats in 109 patients and 173 healthy control subjects. Our cohort comprised: a)group of patients with predominant cerebellar ataxia and/or tremor. b.)suspected cases of MSA and c.)patients who presented SCA12-like neurological manifestations (late onset predominant tremor and/or ataxia). All the cases were ruled out for known triplet-repeat-expansion (TRE) SCA mutations. Results We have found three FMR1 -premutation carriers among the cases. Two of them (with CGG-96 and CGG-102) were under evaluation for their SCA12-like manifestations and another (CGG-78) had progressive gait ataxia. Overall the frequency of FXTAS in our cohort was found to be 3.3% among cases of late onset cerebellar-ataxia/tremor; however, incidences were higher among cases with SCA12-like syndrome (9%, 2/23). Conclusion Finding FXTAS in patients with SCA12-like manifestation suggests that TRE in the 5′UTR of the gene is the common cue connecting two disorders with common phenotype of tremor/ataxia.
