The structures of the new compounds were elucidated following a comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data from HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR, and optical rotatory dispersion (ORD), as well as acidic hydrolysis. Compounds 1 , 2 , 4 , 7 , 9 , 10 , 12 , and 13 were isolated from P. hastata for the first time. All compounds isolated from P. hastata were investigated for their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity in vitro. • Chemical constituents of the fern A. albofusca was investigated for the first time. • Two previously undescribed diterpenoids were isolated. • High yield of onychiol B implied cyathanes might truly be produced by ferns. An ent -pimaradiene diterpene, ent -8(14),15-pimaradiene-2 β ,19-diol (1), and a cyathane diterpene, 14-oxy-7 α ,20-dihydroxycyath-12,18-diene (2), together with seven known natural products (3 - 9) were isolated from Aleuritopteris albofusca. Their structures were established by means of 1D and 2D NMR, IR, MS, and single-crystal X-ray methods and comparison with data of known analogs. Fern species have been classified as traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. However, the phytochemicals and bioactivities of most fern species were rarely explored. Herein, we examined the total flavonoid contents, in vitro antioxidant potential and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity of the extracts from 15 fern species in Yunnan Province of China. The total flavonoid contents ranged from 4.67 to 125.88 mg/g (w/w, dry weight). Their antioxidant potentials were evaluated by the radical scavenging, superoxide anion scavenging, and reducing power, which indicated that most of the extracts from these fern species showed very strong radical and superoxide anion scavenging ability. However, among these 15 fern species, only five extracts from Pyrrosia petiolosa , Polypodiodes amoena , Araiostegia imbricate , Pseudodrynaria coronans , and Pilea nummulariifolia showed acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity. The polyphenol profiles of Lemmaphyllum carnosum with highest total flavonoid content were identified as dehydroagastol, bufotalin, chlorogrnic acid, monogalloyl-glucose, luteolin 7- O -β- d -gluscoside, kaempferol 3- O -α- l -rhamnopyr-anoside, myricetin 3- O -rhamnoside, quercetin 3- O -galactoside, apigenin 7- O -glucoside, and Woorenoside II. Abstract: Ultrasonic-assisted grinding (UAG) has been extensively employed in manufacturing industries for processing hard and brittle materials. However, its potential has not been sufficiently developed because the material removal mechanism in UAG has not been elucidated. This paper focuses on the material removal mechanism in the UAG of silicon carbide (SiC) ceramics by investigating the material removal behaviors in ultrasonic-assisted scratching (UAS) of SiC ceramics. The UAS test was conducted on an NC (Numerical Control) surface grinder connected to a self-designed ultrasonic unit; a single diamond tool was fixed onto the end-face of the ultrasonic unit to achieve an ultrasonic vibration (UV). Conventional scratching (CS) test was also carried out on the same experimental rig but without UV for comparison. During testing, the material deformation/fracture behavior and the scratching forces were investigated. The experimental results show that (1) there are two scratching modes in the UAS process depending on actual depth of cut: an intermittent mode and a continuous mode; (2) the mean groove depth in UAS is much bigger than that in CS, indicating that the cutting ability of the tool was significantly improved by the assistance of the UV; (3) the critical depth of cut is increased by 56.25% once UV is applied; the stiffness of the experiment setup is improved in the UAS compared to CS; the UV in y-direction strongly contributes to the material removal, whereas the UV in z-direction only results in variation of the cutting trace and hardly contributes to the material removal in the UAS process; (4) in UAS, the scratching forces sinusoidally fluctuate with the same period as that of the UV of the tool when the material removal is in ductile mode, when the material removal is in brittle mode, the forces heavily vary but the period is different from that of the UV of the tool; (5) the cutting efficiency of the tool is improved by the assistance of the UV. The impact and cutting action at the tool tip on the machining surface are the main factors contributing to the material removal. The observed features were rationalized by analyzing kinematic characteristics of the tool and material removal mechanism in UAS. Abstract: The profiles and bioactivities of flavonoids extracted from Dryoathyrium boryanum (Willd.) Ching were investigated. The total flavonoids content in extract from D. boryanum is about 145.8mg/g. By means of HPLC–DAD–ESI–MS, the main flavonoids in D. boryanum were tentatively identified as 3-hydroxyphloretin 6′-O-hexoside, quercetin-7-hexoside, apigenin7-O-glucoside, luteolin 7-O-glucoside, apigenin 7-O-galactoside, acacetin 7-O-(α-D-apio-furanosyl) (1→6)-β-d-glucoside, 3-hydroxy phloretin 6-O-hexoside, luteolin-6-C-glucoside. 0.21mg/ml flavonoids extract from D. boryanum showed very strong superoxide anion radical scavenging potential, which is higher than that of rutin (0.25mg/ml). The extract (0.21mg/ml of flavonoids) from D. boryanum exhibited similar DPPH scavenging potential with that of rutin (0.25mg/ml). However, rutin (0.25mg/ml) showed a significantly higher reducing power and ABTS scavenging potential than that of 0.21mg/ml flavonoids extract from D. boryanum. Abstract: The profiles and bioactivities of flavonoids extracted from Dryopteris erythrosora were investigated. The total flavonoid content in full plant of D. Erythrosora is about 14.33%. The main flavonoids in D. Erythrosora were identified as gliricidin 7-O-hexoside, apigenin7-O-glucoside, quercetin 7-O-rutinoside, quercetin 7-O-galactoside, keampferol 7-O-gentiobioside, keampferol-3-O-rutinoside, myricetin 3-O-rhamnoside and quercitrin by means of HPLC-DAD–ESI-MS. Flavonoids (0.36mg/ml) extract from D. erythrosora showed similar 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical (DPPH ), 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical (ABTS ), superoxide anion scavenging potential and ferric reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP) with that of rutin (0.80mg/ml). However, the antioxidant power by FRAP assay of 0.36mg/ml flavonoids extract from D. erythrosora was much weaker than that of 0.80mg/ml rutin. Moreover, the flavonoids extract from D. erythrosora showed obvious cytotoxic effects on A549 cells. The antioxidant activities of flavonoids extracts from 69 ferns showed a significant reciprocal proportion to the total flavonoids contents. The flavonoids extract from D. erythrosora exhibited a dose-dependent inhibition against acetylcholinesterase. Abstract: We describe the design, synthesis and structure–activity relationship studies in optimizing a series of benzotriazine compounds as potent inhibitors of both Abl and Abl-T315I enzymes. The design includes targeting of an acid functional residue on the αC-helix that is available only upon kinase activation. This designed interaction provides an advantage in overcoming the challenges arising from the T315I mutation of Abl and transforms poor (ca. 10μM) inhibitors into those with low nM potency. To produce electrical resistance welding (ERW) pipes with the different specification efficiently and economically, flexible roll forming technology is urgently required. Based on the elastic plasticity deformation theory, combined with the basic parameters of typical roll forming units, the 3D finite element analysis (FEA)models of ERW pipes with seven kinds of sizes were built and the numerical simulations were conducted with the professional roll forming software COPRA. The mechanics law between strip and rolls in conventional roll forming was revealed and the results were obtained that the edge arc segment of rolls plays a major role and the straight segment restricts the deformation of strip in the W-shaped forming process. Considered the mechanics law and forming mechanism, the modular and compact design of flower pattern and rolls in first to fifth stands were conducted; a set of involute-tangent-arc roll profile for flexible roll forming of ERW pipes with seven kinds of sizes in first to fifth stands was proposed and verified with the numerical simulations. Results showed that the final product with the flexible design of flower pattern and rolls satisfied the accuracy requirement and the transverse strain distribution was optimized during the roll forming. Flavonoid extracts of fern are conductive to phylogeny and genesiology as well as pharmacological activities. Ferns are widely distributed in Tianmu Mountain. Flavonoid concentrations and antioxidant activity in extracts of 49 ferns from Tianmu Mountain were investigated and analyzed. The result showed that the total flavonoid contents of 49 ferns ranged from 3.3 to 191.7 mg/g (w/w). Total flavonoid contents and antioxidant activity of fern allies were lower than those of filicinae. Woodwardia japonica a contained the highest flavonoid content (191.7 mg/g). The results also showed that most of ferns from Tianmu Mountain had strong antioxidant activity. The extracts from A. rhomboidea showed the highest DPPH scavenging activity, while extracts from W. japonica a showed the highest ABTS scavenging activity. The flavonoid contents of ferns are affected by ecological factors. In general, ferns living under dimmer sunshine have higher flavonoid contents and stronger ABTS scavenging activity than those living under strong sunshine. The ferns grown in trees, high altitude and high latitude contain higher flavonoid concentrations, whereas the ferns grown in soil, high altitude contain higher antioxidant activity. Abstract: We report the discovery and preliminary SAR studies of a series of structurally novel benzotriazine core based small molecules as inhibitors of Src kinase. To the best of our knowledge, benzotriazine template based compounds have not been reported as kinase inhibitors. Among recent concepts in the cancer biology field, the tumor microenvironment is highly associated with cancer stem cells, and plays a key role in tumor progression. This study aimed to explore the mechanism that the stemness induction of SKOV3 cell line by macrophages derived from THP-1 cells, which was co-cultured with SKOV3-derived ovarian cancer stem-like cells (OCSLCs). Sphere formation, soft agar colony formation, and expression levels of CD133 and CD44 were assessed to reflect OCSLC properties. ELISA was used to evaluate secretion profile changes in macrophages co-cultured with or without SKOV3-derived OCSLCs. For mechanistic evaluation, rhIL-8, IL-8 neutralizing antibody (IL-8 Ab), signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) shRNA and STAT3 cDNA were used. The results showed that IL-10, VEGF, MMP-9, IL-8 secretion and CD163 and STAT3 expression levels in macrophages co-cultured with OCSLCs were increased compared with those from THP-1 cells, while IL-12 and NO amounts were significantly reduced, reflecting M2 macrophage polarization. Addition of rhIL-8 to THP-1 cell conditioned media promoted M2 macrophage polarization and stemness in SKOV3 cells, which were suppressed by IL-8 Ab addition to co-culture conditioned media. Consistently, overexpression of STAT3 induced M2 macrophage polarization and stemness in SKOV3 cells, which were inhibited by STAT3 knockdown in macrophages from THP-1 cells. Importantly, STAT3 overexpression rescued the effects of IL-8 Ab on M2 macrophage polarization and stemness in SKOV3 cells. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a subset of cancer cells which have self-renewal ability and exist in various tumors. Inhibition of CSCs self-renewal is considered as a new method for tumor therapy. A novel semi-synthetic taxane analogue, Lx2-32c, could overcome drug resistance in various cancer cell lines. In this study, it was found that Lx2-32c inhibited the proliferation and mammosphere formation of MDA-MB-231-derived cancer stem cell-like cells (MCSCLCs) and induced apoptosis, as well as down-regulated the expression of FoxM1 and CD44 in MCSCLCs. Simultaneously, it was proved that Lx2-32c combined with thiostreption, a FoxM1 inhibitor inhibited proliferation and mammosphere formation of MCSCLCs and induced apoptosis to a more extent than Lx2-32c alone; thiostreption could also enhance the effect of Lx2-32c of reduction of the expression of FoxM1 and CD44. All of these results indicated that Lx2-32c is a novel semi-synthetic taxane analogue which inhibits the self-renewal of MCSCLCs cells and induces apoptosis involving in down-regulating FoxM1. Stenoloma chusanum is a traditional Chinese medicine with very high total flavonoid content (TFC) and the total phenolic content (TPC). To explore its phytochemicals and potential in therapeutic applications, the antioxidant activity and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of S. chusanum fractions prepared by extraction with petroleum ether (PF), chloroform (CF), ethyl acetate (EF), n -butanol (NF) and water fractions (WF) as well as their flavonoid profiles were investigated. All these five fractions contained appreciable quantities of flavonoids and phenols, but the EF fraction was richest one with TPC and TFC values of 385.5 mg gallic acid equivalents/g and 746.8 mg rutin equivalents/g, respectively. The EF, NF, and CF fractions showed significant antioxidant activity, presumably due to their high flavonoid and phenol contents. All five fractions also caused dose-dependent inhibition of tyrosinase activity, and the PF fraction was a stronger inhibitor than the positive control inhibitor arbutin. However, the compounds responsible for this activity are currently unknown. These fractions’ chemical profiles were analyzed by LC/MS, revealing that their most abundant secondary metabolites were flavonoids and alkaloids. The EF and NF fractions contained similar compounds, including flavonols, flavones, isoquinolines, filicinic acid, and gigantecine. Further work on S. chusanum to isolate these compounds and explain the mechanisms responsible for their antioxidant activity and anti-tyrosinase activity is warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Twenty compounds were isolated from the fern of Pyrrosia davidii (Baker) Ching. These compounds included three steroids (1 , 2 , and 3), one pigment (4), eleven flavonoids (5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , and 15), two terpenoids (16 , 17), one phenolic acid (18), and two fatty acids (19 , 20). The structures of the compounds were determined by comparison of measured NMR spectroscopic data with previously reported data. Except for Compound 1 and 11 , all the compounds were isolated for the first time from Pyrrosia davidii (Baker) Ching, and Compounds 6 , 9 , 17 , 19 , and 20 were isolated for the first time from the genus Pyrrosia Mirbel. Stenoloma chusanum is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb with a very high total flavonoid content (TFC). The seasonal dynamics of the TFC and total phenolic content (TPC) in S. chusanum , as well as antioxidant activity, were investigated. The TFC and TPC showed clear seasonal dynamics, reaching their maxima (24.63 ± 1.34% and 9.58 ± 0.41%, respectively) in February. The TFC and TPC in the aerial parts of the plant were much higher than those in the subterranean parts; however, the antioxidant activities of the extracts from the subterranean parts were slightly higher than those from the aerial parts. Moreover, the extracts exhibited higher inhibition against tyrosinase than against arbutin (the positive control). The extract from S. chusanum collected in February was associated with the highest proliferation and apoptosis of K562 cells. The phytochemicals in the extract were analyzed using LC-MS, and were found to comprise of 12 flavonoids, five alkaloids, one sesquiterpenoid and one phenypropanoid. Eurycoma longifolia is a tropical plant of diverse applications in folk medicine, which occurs in Southeast Asia. In this study, pre-purified fraction (0.86 g) of the crude extracts from the roots of E. longifolia , was subjected to preparative high-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) with a two-phase solvent system composed of hexane–ethyl acetate–methanol–water (HEMWat) at a volume ratio of 5:2:5:2 ( v / v ). Longifolione A ( 1 , 19 mg, purity 96.0%) and longifolione C ( 3 , 317 mg, purity 96.2%), together with longifolione B ( 2 , purity 77.6%) were isolated in one run. The whole mobile and stationary phase was then blown out, concentrated in vacuo , and subjected to second HSCCC purification. Using HEMWat at a volume ratio of 6:1:6:1.2 ( v / v ), this fraction yielded two more new polyacetylenenes, longifolione D ( 4 , 5 mg purity 94.5%) and longifolione E ( 5 , 33 mg purity 96.3%). All of these five compounds are new natural products and isolated from E. longifolia for the first time. The pore size and the porosity of a nanoporous silica are often highly correlated. In the current investigation, based on the phenomenon that calcination temperature has a much more pronounced influence on the porosity than the pore size, we developed the post-processing calcination (PPC) technique to decouple the pore size and the porosity. As PPC temperatures were precisely controlled for silica monoliths of different initial pore sizes, their porosities could be tailored to a similar level, while the changes in pore sizes were quite mild. The seasonal dynamics of the total flavonoid contents in various parts of Dryopteris erythrosora , a traditional Chinese medicinal fern, and their antioxidant activity were investigated. The total flavonoids content in various parts of D. erythrosora showed an obvious seasonal dynamic change. The total flavonoid contents in stems (from 4.3% to 12.5%) were much higher than that in leaves with an average content of 2.01%. In spring, the total flavonoid contents in stems were relatively low, but increased rapidly from summer to winter. However, the seasonal dynamics of total flavonoid contents in leaves showed different model. The total flavonoid contents in the stems showed a negative correlation with that in the leaves from January to July. The correlation coefficient of about −0.7 was obtained. The antioxidant activity of the extracts also altered in proportion to the change of total flavonoid contents. Most industrial heat exchange processes are carried out between two fluids. Usually the thermal fluids are driven by pumps or fans. The power consumption of pumps and fans is quite high in the transport systems, especially in data centers. Nearly 60% of the computer room air conditioning (CRAC) system's energy consumption is consumed by pumps and fans in winter. A lot of literatures discussed the heat transfer enhancement in heat transfer process but few focused on the energy consumption. In this paper, a new synergy optimization method is proposed to save energy in heat transfer process. The heat transfer constraint equations of the heat transfer process are established. Taking the energy efficiency as the objective function, the synergistic relationship between the power consumption and temperature difference is derived analytically by using variation principle. A synergy operation factor is defined to guide the practical operation optimization of heat transfer process. The closer the synergy operation factor to 1, the higher the system energy efficiency is. An experiment of a separated heat pipe system is carried out to verify the accuracy of the synergy optimization analysis. Abstract: Mesoporous carbons (MCs) with nanosheet-like walls have been prepared as electrodes for lithium-ion batteries by a simple one-step infiltrating method under the action of capillary flow. The influence of heat treatment temperature on the surface topography, pore/phase structure and anode performances of as-prepared materials has been investigated. The results reveal that melted liquid-crystal polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons could be anchored on liquid/silica interfaces by molecule engineering. After carbonization, the nanosheets are formed as the pore walls of MCs and are perpendicular to the long axis of pores. The anode properties demonstrate that C-1200 displays higher reversible capacitance than those treated in higher temperature. The rate performances of C-1200 and C-1800 are similar and more excellent than that of C-2400. • FC-W-ANN and OBF combined detector realizes low SNR ratio MAD. • The error quotient updates the learning rate to realize high-speed convergence. • The error quotient gradient can ensure the stability of the network. • FC-W-ANN denoises signals without studying noise frequency. The orthogonal basis functions (OBFs) detector is a detection method widely used in the aerial magnetic measurement. However, OBFs detector works ineffectively under non-Gaussian noise and colored noise. This paper proposes an OBFs detector based on fast convergence wavelet artificial neural network (FC-W-ANN), which can detect abnormal magnetic signals under low SNR. First, the magnetic anomaly signal is modelled. Then, the learning rate is corrected by the iterative error convergence rate under the stability of the network. Finally, the improved network is combined with the OBFs detector to detect magnetic abnormal signals. From the simulation and experimental results, the reconstructed signal of the new method has a higher SNR (SNR = 10.01) compared with OBFs (SNR = -0.21) and OBFs based on the wavelet artificial neural network (W-ANN; SNR = 9.59). Furthermore, the statistical methods are used to analyze FC-W-ANN and W-ANN, showing that FC-W-ANN has higher training accuracy and better stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
