The discarded bakelite cannot be easily recycled into useful products as it gets charred upon heating. The addition of thermoplastics like polystyrene (PS) to bakelite during pyrolysis may improve the decomposition of the bakelite. The design of a co-pyrolysis process needs kinetic and thermodynamic analysis. So, this work investigates the co-pyrolysis kinetics, and synergy of PS-blended bakelite (BL) (1:1 by weight) by using model-fitting and model-free methods. This is followed by thermodynamic analysis and batch pyrolysis studies to understand the feasibility of the process. To achieve it, the thermal degradation experiments are conducted at 5, 10, 20, 30, and 50 °C/min heating rates in a nitrogen environment, from 30 to 1000 °C. The TG-DTG curve of the blended sample includes two major weight loss steps (215-375 °C and 375-490 °C). The blending of PS with bakelite causes a shift in the pyrolytic degradation temperature zone and the appearance of a synergetic effect. Significant variation in the kinetics, thermodynamics, and mechanism of thermal degradation is observed due to the blending of polystyrene. The pyrolytic oils obtained in batch pyrolysis at 450 °C contain 58.27 wt% aromatic hydrocarbons (C 7-30) and 40.93 wt% saturated hydrocarbons (C 12-29) as major ingredients, as per the GC–MS analysis. In this work, naphthalimide derived functionalized silica material SiO 2 @NAPIA (2,2'((((propylazanediyl)bis(methylene))bis(2,1-phenylene))bis(oxy))bis(N-(1,3-dioxo-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-2(3H)-yl)acetamide)) was constructed as a dual signaling and remediation material for ferric ions from a pool of 35 common ions (cations and anions) in the aqueous system. The material Cubic SiO 2 shows a high surface area (1104 m2/g, pore volume (1.510 cm3/g), and pore diameter (6.3 nm) in the mesoporous range, which reduces further on functionalization to get the final material SiO 2 @NAPIA. The ferric ion selectivity through fluorescence quenching displays a Stern-Volmer quenching constant (K sv) of 7.8 × 108 M−1 with a LOD (Limit of detection) value of 0.11 μM for ferric-ion, which is 48 times lower than the USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) maximum contaminant level (5.35 μM) in drinking water. This material also shows a very high adsorption capacity (664 mg/g) for ferric ions fitting the Langmuir model isotherm with R2 = 0.99, which can be easily stripped out, and the material can be recycled. This material was also used as a sensory probe material for biosensing of ferric ions through fluorescence imaging in living organisms like Artemia salina and quantification in the real environmental sample. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity inspired by the ferric ion chelating affinity shows good potency against several Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial strains. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) & Minimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of the material against these pathogens were found to be 100 & 200 μg/mL respectively. This material signifies superior activity with respect to the ferric-ion selective materials known in the literature. Fucoidan is a complex polysaccharide (molecular weight 10,000–100,000 Da) derived from brown algae which comprises of L-fucose and sulfate groups have potential as therapeutic diligences against several human diseases. The fucoidan has expanded a widespread range of pharmacological properties as an anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, antiangiogenic, immunomodulatory, anti-adhesive, anticancer, antidiabetic, antiviral and anti-neurodegenerative agents owing to their diverse chemical conformation and potent antioxidant activity. The antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities of the fucoidan contribute towards their disease preventive potency through dynamic modulation of key intracellular signalling pathways, regulation of ROS accumulation, and maintenance of principal cell survival and death pathways. Additionally, it also reduces cancer-associated cachexia. Despite the wide range of therapeutic potency, the fucoidan is heavily regarded as an unexplored plethora of druggable entities in the current situation. The isolation, screening, biological application, pre-clinical, and clinical assessment along with large scale cost-effective production remain a foremost task to be assessed. Moreover, the chemical synthesis of the present bioactive drug with confirmational rearrangement for enhanced availability and bioactivity also need tenacious investigation. Hence, in the present review, we give attention to the source of isolation of fucoidan, their principle strategic deployment in disease prevention, and the mechanistic investigation of how it works to combat different diseases that can be used for future therapeutic intervention.
