Highlights • This research investigates the schema incongruity effect in a wine tasting context. • Results suggest that this effect is confined to consumers with wine expertise. • For higher expertise levels the effect occurs for schema-based evaluation. • For higher expertise levels the effect also occurs for piecemeal-based evaluation. • For lower expertise levels schema-based evaluation is a prerequisite for the effect. Abstract Broadening the present understanding of how expertise moderates the schema-incongruity effect (i.e., the notion that a product moderately incongruent with the schema evoked for it in memory is associated with a comparatively positive product evaluation), this study argues that people with higher, not lower, degrees of expertise experience incongruity and prefer moderately incongruent products over congruent ones. Because people with low expertise in complex product categories lack a developed schema against which to assess encountered products, they will be insensitive to incongruity. People with high expertise, on the other hand, typically have developed schemata and can therefore perceive incongruity and respond accordingly. Consumers with different levels of wine expertise participated in a study in which they were given congruent or incongruent information, as well as different levels of information elaboration, about a wine prior to tasting and evaluating it. The results of this study support the above argument: Expertise moderates the incongruity effect such that it is prevalent only for experts, and schema-level processing moderates expertise’s moderating effect on the incongruity effect. Abstract: The SrCu2O2 material is a p-type transparent conductive oxide. A theoretical study of the SrCu2O2 crystal is performed with a state of the art implementation of the Density Functional Theory. The simulated crystal structure is compared with available X-ray diffraction data and previous theoretical modeling. Density Functional Perturbation Theory is used to study the vibrational properties of the SrCu2O2 crystal. A symmetry analysis of the optical phonon eigenvectors at the Brillouin zone center is proposed. The Raman spectra simulated using the derivatives of the dielectric susceptibility, show a good agreement with Raman scattering experimental results. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The problem of excitonic and biexcitonic binding is studied in the system of parabolic coordinates for a lens-shaped quantum box. The exciton wavefunction is expanded in terms of electron–hole configurations made from electron and hole single-particle states. Configuration interaction method and perturbative calculations are used to study the competition between confinement and correlation effects. Biexcitonic binding energy is calculated in the strong confinement regime and a comparison to the case of a spherical box is made. Absorption spectra with and without correlation effects are computed for InAs/InP quantum dots. Excitonic binding energy and enhancement factor are estimated to be equal to about 20 meV and 1.5, respectively. The excitonic absorption is finally studied in the presence of a uniform vertical electric field. A weak vertical Stark effect is predicted for lens-shaped quantum box described within this model. Abstract: Structural and electronic properties of the BAs compound and B x Ga1− x As, B x In1− x As alloys are studied using first principles calculations. New results on elastic constants, acoustic phonons and optical phonons frequencies are reported. The 4×4 Kane''s interaction matrix is calculated in order to ease simulations of optoelectronic devices. Effective masses and Luttinger parameters for the valence bands are calculated. B x Ga1− x As and B x In1− x As alloys are simulated using the virtual crystal approximation (VCA). The B x Ga1− x As alloy lattice-matched to GaP substrate is found to be an indirect band gap semiconductor. The B x In1− x As alloys lattice-matched to InP and GaAs substrates, are found to be direct band gap semiconductors. The B x In1− x As alloy is proposed as an alternative solution for epitaxial growth of nanostructures for electronic (field effect transistors) and optoelectronic (lasers, saturable absorbers) devices on InP substrate. Abstract: Density Functional Theory is used to study the vibrational properties of 2H-PbI2 semiconductor. The Born charge tensors are determined. Calculated phonon frequencies at the Brillouin zone center are compared to Raman scattering and IR absorption measurements. The computed Raman spectra show a good agreement with available experimental data. The simulated phonon dispersion curves are compared with triple-axis neutron scattering measurements. Objectifs: Le but de cette étude prospective est de décrire l’incidence, la présentation clinique ainsi que les modalités thérapeutiques des arthritis septiques aiguës à Kingella Kingae (KK) chez l’enfant. Méthode: Tous les patients admis dans notre service entre 2005 et 2007 pour suspicion d’arthrite septique ont été inclus. Le diagnostic était évoqué devant l’association d’une boiterie fébrile avec un épanchement articulaire, puis confirmé par l’existence d’un liquide puriforme lors de la ponction réalisée en urgence au bloc opératoire. Tous les patients ont ensuite bénéficié d’un lavage articulaire à ciel ouvert ou par arthroscopie. La recherche de germe a été effectuée par culture standard ainsi que par PCR spécifique du KK. Résultats: Sur 114 patients opérés, un germe a été identifié dans 43 cas (38 %). Dans ce groupe d’âge moyen 65 mois, le Staphylococcus aureus était le pathogène le plus fréquent (25 cas-58 %), mais le second était KK avec 17 cas recensés (39.5 %). La PCR spécifique était le seul examen positif chez 7 patients (41 %). 88 % des patients affectés par KK avaient un âge inférieur à 36 mois, contre 19 % dans le groupe des autres pathogènes (p < 0,001). La présentation initiale était marquée par une fièvre peu élevée (38,2 en moyenne) associée à une élévation modérée de la CRP (39 en moyenne). L’incidence est en nette augmentation puisque 13 des 17 cas ont été observés au cours des 12 derniers mois. L’évolution clinique a été favorable chez tous les patients avec normalisation des facteurs biologiques à J7 d’hospitalisation. Le germe était multisensible dans tous les cas et les patients ont reçu 6 semaines au total d’amoxicilline seule (100 mg/kg/24h). Conclusion: Les arthrites septiques à KK sont de plus en plus fréquentes et surviennent dans un groupe d’âge défini (moins de 36 mois), identique à celui des infections à Haemophilus Influenzae type b dans le passé. Depuis l’introduction de la vaccination contre ce germe chez les jeunes enfants, KK est le microorganisme le plus fréquent, mais sa pathogénicité reste faible à ce jour. Si KK reste toujours difficile à isoler sur les cultures, l’utilisation récente de la PCR spécifique devrait permettre d’éliminer les diagnostics inappropriés d’arthrite à culture négative en cas d’infection à KK. Abstract The isotopic distribution of nuclei produced in the 50Ti + 249Cf reaction has been studied at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA at GSI Darmstadt, which separates ions according to differences in magnetic rigidity. The bombardment was performed at an energy around the Bass barrier and with the TASCA magnetic fields set for collecting fusion-evaporation reaction products. Fifty-three isotopes located “north-east” of 208Pb were identified as recoiling products formed in non-fusion channels of the reaction. These recoils were implanted with energies in two distinct ranges; besides one with higher energy, a significant low-energy contribution was identified. The latter observation was not expected to occur according to kinematics of the known types of reactions, namely quasi-elastic, multi-nucleon transfer, deep-inelastic collisions or quasifission. Proton inelastic scattering off a neutron halo nucleus, 11 Li, has been studied in inverse kinematics at the IRIS facility at TRIUMF. The aim was to establish a soft dipole resonance and to obtain its dipole strength. Using a high quality 66 MeV 11 Li beam, a strongly populated excited state in 11 Li was observed at E x = 0.80 ± 0.02 MeV with a width of Γ = 1.15 ± 0.06 MeV . A DWBA (distorted-wave Born approximation) analysis of the measured differential cross section with isoscalar macroscopic form factors leads us to conclude that this observed state is excited in an electric dipole (E1) transition. Under the assumption of isoscalar E1 transitions, the strength is evaluated to be extremely large amounting to 30 ∼ 296 Weisskopf units, exhausting 2.2 % ∼ 21 % of the isoscalar E1 energy-weighted sum rule (EWSR) value. The large observed strength originates from the halo and is consistent with the simple di-neutron model of 11 Li halo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The average charge states of 188Pb and 252,254No ions in dilute helium gas were measured at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA. Hydrogen gas was also used as a filling gas for measurements of the average charge state of 254No. Helium and hydrogen gases at pressures from 0.2mbar to 2.0mbar were used. A strong dependence of the average charge state on the pressure of the filling gases was observed for both, helium and hydrogen. The influence of this dependence, classically attributed to the so-called “density effect”, on the performance of TASCA was investigated. The average charge states of 254No ions were also measured in mixtures of helium and hydrogen gases at low gas pressures around 1.0mbar. From the experimental results simple expressions for the prediction of average charge states of heavy ions moving in rarefied helium gas, hydrogen gas, and in their mixture were derived. Clin Microbiol Infect 2011; 17: 1173-1176 Abstract The genetic diversity of norovirus strains obtained from gastroenteritis outbreaks, sporadic case surveillance and wastewater plants was compared in Luxembourg from October 2008 until June 2009. Except for GI.6 and GIV.1 strains detected exclusively in wastewater, all other genotypes were also found in human samples. Of the nine NoV genotypes detected, only three (GII.4, GIIb/II.3 and GIIc/II.12) were associated with institutional outbreaks. The majority of sequences from all sources belonged to genotype GII.4, including two potentially new subvariants. Strains collected in the context of outbreaks may significantly under-represent the overall genetic diversity of NoVs circulating in a country. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The neutron-deficient isotopes 254,255Rf were produced in the fusion-evaporation reaction 50Ti + 206Pb at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA. Decay properties of these nuclei were investigated by applying fast digital electronics. A search for isomeric states in both isotopes was performed by using the accompanying conversion electron emissions. Isomeric states with half-lives of 4(1) μs and >30 μs were measured for 254Rf and 255Rf, respectively, which confirm the findings at different separators. The present experimental results demonstrate the great potential of fast digital electronics for measurements of isomeric states in the heaviest nuclei, which are only producible in small quantities. Objectif de l’étude Comparer et harmoniser les pratiques de dosimétrie du cancer prostatique entre les centres de radiothérapie de la région. Matériel et méthodes Les onze centres ont participé à ce travail financé par le conseil régional, le Fonds européen de développement régional (Feder), les missions d’intérêt général, la ligue contre le cancer et les centres eux-mêmes. Après la délinéation nous avons poursuivi un travail d’harmonisation des dosimétries. Trois cas cliniques anonymisés avec les contours (volume cible anatomoclinique [CTV] et organes à risque) ont été envoyés : un cancer prostatique de bas risque (cas 1), un de haut risque (aires pelviennes, cas 2) et une loge de prostatectomie (cas 3). Les marges et les doses étaient imposées, avec des contraintes de couverture des volume cibles prévisionnels (PTVs). Chaque centre a renvoyé au moins une dosimétrie correspondant à sa pratique, à deux reprises, les premiers résultats étant discutés avant comparaison. Les histogrammes dose-volume (HDV) des volumes cibles et des organes à risque des deux envois ont été comparés (test de Wilcoxon). Résultats Tous les centres ont envoyé des dosimétries calculées avec modulation d’intensité. Pour le cas 1, la comparaison des histogrammes dose volume moyen montre une diminution de l’aire sous la courbe pour la vessie et le rectum, significative entre respectivement V19 et V67, et V5 et V55 (Vx = volume recevant × Gy) ( p < 0,05). Les résultats étaient identiques pour le cas 2, avec une différence significative de V10 à V48 pour la vessie ( p < 0,05), sans majoration de la dose délivrée à l’intestin grêle. Pour le cas 3, on note une diminution des volumes irradiés (vessie et rectum) de V20 à V50 non significative ( p = 0,05 pour le V50). Dans les trois cas la D2 % (dose dans 2 % du volume) des têtes fémorales reste inférieure à 50 Gy et la meilleure protection des organes à risque est observée sans altération de la couverture du PTV. Conclusion Notre travail collaboratif a permis une discussion et une amélioration des pratiques de dosimétrie du cancer prostatique à l’échelle régionale.
