Abstract In this study, the preparation of CeO 2 / TiO 2 nanotubes (CeO 2 /TiO 2 –NTs) is demonstrated using the hydrothermal method. The conditions for the synthesis were optimised using the Box–Behnken design. The samples obtained were characterised by means of X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, and Raman spectroscopy. The photocatalytic behaviour under visible light and kinetics of the CeO 2 /TiO 2 –NTs catalyst via methylene blue degradation were addressed. The results showed that the introduction of CeO 2 into TiO 2 –NTs enhanced the photocatalytic activity in the visible light region. CeO 2 /TiO 2 –NTs were stable and potential as a visible light photocatalyst for the organic substances degradation in aqueous solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: A new scheme is proposed to generate free-travelling four-mode cluster-type entangled coherent states. Compared with other previously proposed schemes ours is very simple in execution using only one π-cross-Kerr medium, two beam-splitters and two -phase-shifters. Despite the setup simplicity, our scheme, unlike the others which are all probabilistic, is efficient with 100% success probability since no measurements are involved at all. Self-assembly of lower nanostructures into 3D superstructures is extensively investigated because of their excellent physicochemical properties. In this study, the hierarchical SnO 2 nanostructures were prepared via two simple hydrothermal methods. The SnO 2 nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), surface area analyzer (using BET method), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The SEM, TEM results revealed that the hierarchical SnO 2 flowers were assembled by numerous one-dimensional tetragonal prism nanorods and the sphere architectures were formed by numerous smaller particles. The gas sensing results demonstrated that the different SnO 2 nanostructures have great effect on the gas sensing behavior. The nanoflowers exhibited higher sensitivities to ethanol than the nanospheres, whereas the typical responses of these sensors to H 2 and LPG indicated that the porous spheres demonstrated better sensing performance than the hierarchical flowers. Iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared via a simple hydrothermal method for high performance CO gas sensor. The synthesized α-Fe 2 O 3 NPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED). The SEM, TEM results revealed that obtained α-Fe 2 O 3 particles had a peanut-like geometry with hemispherical ends. The response of the α-Fe 2 O 3 NPs based sensor to carbon monoxide (CO) and various concentrations of other gases were measured at different temperatures. It found that the sensor based on the peanut-like α-Fe 2 O 3 NPs exhibited high response, fast response–recovery, and good selectivity to CO at 300 °C. The experimental results clearly demonstrated the potential application of α-Fe 2 O 3 NPs as a good sensing material in the fabrication of CO sensor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
