Abstract

A general synthesis of chiral 4,5-dihydro-3H-dinaphthophosphepines 1a–g is described. The resulting ligands represent a new class of monodentate chiral phosphines. First applications of 1a–g in the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives demonstrate the usefulness of our ligands. Enantioselectivities up to 95% ee for the hydrogenation of methyl α-acetamidocinnamate were obtained in the presence of 1d. This result represent the highest enantioselectivity reported for asymmetric hydrogenation in the presence of monodentate phosphines. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

Abstract: An efficient iron-based catalyst system consisting of Fe(BF)4·6H2O and P(CH2CH2PPh2)3 [tetraphos, (PP3)] is presented for the highly selective transfer hydrogenation of aromatic, aliphatic, and α,β-unsaturated aldehydes. A wide range of substrates including aldehydes with other reducible functional groups gave the corresponding alcohols in good yields. Formic acid is applied as a cheap, environmentally benign and easy to handle hydrogen source. Notable features of the presented methodology are the fast reactions under mild conditions. Advantageously compared to most transfer hydrogenations, no stoichiometric amounts of base additives are required. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of different acyclic and cyclic enol carbamates to give optically active carbamates has been examined in the presence of chiral monodentate ligands based on a 4,5-dihydro-3H-dinaphthophosphepine motif 4. The enantioselectivity is largely dependent upon the reaction conditions, the nature of substituents on the phosphorus ligand and structure of the enol carbamate. Abstract

• Phosphine oxides activate the Co 2 (CO) 8 catalyst in the transformations of oxetanes. • The reactions occur in the syngas atmosphere under mild conditions in green solvents. • Oxetanes undergo either carbonylative ring expansion or reductive ring opening. • The products are γ-lactones or primary alcohols depending on the substrate structure. Phosphine oxides, especially tricyclohexylphosphine oxide (P7), promote the cobalt catalyzed carbonylative ring expansion and reductive ring opening reaction of oxetanes under syngas atmosphere. Depending on the substrate structure and the stability of the carbocation intermediate either γ-lactones or primary alcohols are obtained in moderate to excellent yields. Syngas proved to play a crucial role for the catalyst activity and its stability in this process. Green solvents with high sustainability rankings, such as dimethyl carbonate (DMC), can be used in replacement of traditional solvents. The optimized conditions for both procedures were substrate (1 mmol), Co 2 (CO) 8 (2 mol%), DMC (2 mL), 100 °C, gas phase – CO/H 2 (1:1) 40 atm, 24 h resulting in the yields of 56–94% in the ring expansion, and 65–94% in the ring opening of oxetanes.
