This study examines customers' intentions to select an autonomous delivery robot (ADR) for off-premise restaurant delivery services, in response to the growing concerns about carbon emissions. Drawing upon Valence-Instrumentality-Expectancy theory, this study demonstrates how knowledge of transport emissions, awareness of carbon emissions, the perceived environmental performance of ADRs, and ADR usage intentions are interrelated. This study also explores differences between two groups: ADRs as high risk versus low risk. Using PLS-SEM and PLS-multigroup analysis with data from 418 participants, the study results show that more knowledge of transport emissions and higher awareness of carbon emissions are associated with more positive perceptions of ADRs' environmental performance and greater intentions to use ADRs. This study highlights the importance of ADRs' reliability, which should be prioritized alongside environmental concerns. Because of the increased usage of service robots in the hospitality and tourism industries, researchers and practitioners are interested in learning to facilitate interactions between employees and service robots. However, there is little information on how service robots' humanlike appearance affects employee emotions and industry turnover intentions. Drawing upon uncanny valley theory, a quasi-scenario-based experiment was conducted using four types of service robots. After watching a video on one of the service robots, participants rated perceived human-likeness, tech savviness, fear of robots, and industry turnover intentions. This study reports that perceived human-likeness has an inverted-U shaped nonlinear relationship with employees' fear of robots, moderated by employees' tech-savviness. The result further indicates that the fear of robots is positively related to industry turnover intentions. With the advent of live-attenuated, quadrivalent, and cell-cultured vaccines for influenza, there have been discussions on the safety of these vaccines compared to conventional vaccines (such as inactivated, trivalent, and egg-cultured vaccines) because of the development of neurological adverse events (AEs). This study aimed to compare the trends and safety signals in the AE reporting systems of the US and South Korea and, more particularly, to evaluate the association between influenza vaccination and Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS). In total, 400,535 AE reports from the US Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) and 28,766 AE reports from the Korea Adverse Event Reporting System (KAERS) between 2005 and 2017 were assessed. Disproportionality analysis was performed to detect the safety signals and examine the potential risk of GBS with influenza vaccination using the case/non-case approach. In both databases, GBS was the most frequently reported AE following influenza immunization. Using the case/non-case approach, the adjusted reporting odds ratio (ROR) of GBS was 3.57 (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.16–4.03) and 3.09 (95% CI, 0.83–11.45) in the VAERS and KAERS data, respectively. People vaccinated with live-attenuated vaccines reported 2.30 times (95% CI, 1.74–3.05) more cases of GBS than those vaccinated with other types of vaccines. Our analysis of the VAERS and KAERS reports for AEs following immunization (AEFI) for influenza shows the need for cautious monitoring regarding the development of GBS after influenza vaccination, particularly, after live-attenuated vaccination. However, owing to potential reporting bias caused by limited AEFI reports after the introduction of new types of influenza vaccines, further prospective safety studies are needed. • Employees who experience abusive supervision are likely to engage in service sabotage • Psychological contract breach mediates the effect of abusive supervision on service sabotage. • Abusive supervision is more strongly related to psychological contract breach for employees with high SOE. • The indirect effect of abusive supervision on service sabotage is stronger for employees with high SOE. This study examines how and when abusive supervisor behaviors can motivate hospitality employees to engage in service sabotage. Using the data collected from a two-wave survey, administered to 183 hospitality employees, we uncovered employees' perception of psychological contract breach as a feasible mediator between abusive supervision and service sabotage. In addition, we found that the extent to which employees perceive their supervisors to be representative of the employing organization (i.e., supervisor's organizational embodiment or SOE) moderates the relationship between abusive supervision and psychological contract breach. Taken together, the research model presents that the effect of abusive supervision on service sabotage through psychological contract breach is stronger when SOE is high. This study examined the relationship between host-guest intimacy (HGI) and sharing accommodation satisfaction (SAS) using a novel mixed-method approach of grounded theory techniques, natural language processing, and big data analysis based on 46,765 Airbnb online reviews from 3105 sharing properties in New York. Using Airbnb online reviews, a conceptual model was developed to explore the HGI-SAS relationship and quantify HGI. • Perceived discrimination leads to direct (face-to-face) or indirect (online) voice through anger. • Power state moderates the choice of voice when customers are angry at perceived discrimination. • Low-power customers avoid face-to-face complaints and express their voice online. • The term, discrimination is rarely expressed during customer voice. The service failure that customers experience may be appraised as an intentional, discriminatory act under certain circumstances. Using two studies, we examined the impact of a service failure, which is perceived as discrimination, on customers' direct, face-to-face and indirect, online voice behavior, incorporating power as a boundary condition. In Study 1, we constructed a moderated mediation model involving perceived discrimination, anger, power, and two types of customer voice. The results showed that a low power state suppresses the impact of perceived discrimination on direct, face-to-face voice through anger, but not on indirect, online voice. In other words, low-power individuals may not confront service providers to speak up on site when they are angry at perceived discrimination; they rather express themselves indirectly in the online environment. Further, in Study 2, content analyses revealed that most customers avoid using the term, "discrimination" while making complaints despite their strong agreement on perceived discrimination. Abstract Contagious equine metritis is a highly transmissible venereal disease of horses caused by the bacterium, Taylorella equigenitalis. After the first identification of T. equigenitalis in Korea in 2015, targeted surveillance of Thoroughbreds was conducted using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Initially, the prevalence of T. equigenitalis in the Thoroughbred population tested was 13.5% (71/526). All positive animals were placed under quarantine and treated according to previously described protocols (Jeoung et al., J Equine Vet Sci, 2016; 47:42–6). After the initial outbreak identification, annual national surveillance for T. equigenitalis was conducted from 2015 to 2017, and by 2017, prevalence was reduced to 1.0% (22/2,171). Most positive cases were located in Jeju province, the major horse-rearing region in Korea. A total of 12 T. equigenitalis strains were isolated during the surveillance period, and multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and eBURST analysis were applied to determine epidemiological characteristics. All Korean strains showed a unique MLST allelic profile (1-2-1-2-2-2-1; gltA - gyrB - fh - shmt - tyrB - adk in order) and were classified as sequence type 55. In addition, they showed little relationship with T. equigenitalis strains isolated from other countries. Considering the unique biological and genetic characteristics of the Korean isolates, effective quarantine measures and continued surveillance will be required to eradicate the disease and prevent incursions of additional T. equigenitalis strains into Korea. Highlights • In Korea, a national T. equigenitalis surveillance program conducted in Thoroughbred horses showed a decrease in prevalence from 13.5% in 2015 to 1.0% in 2017. • Characterization of 12 Korean T. equigenitalis isolates showed identical bacteriological properties and demonstrated a unique multilocus sequence typing (MLST) profile (1-2-1-2-2-1). • All Korean T. equigenitalis isolates were classified as MLST sequence type 55 (ST55) and showed little genetic relationship with isolates from other countries. Abstract This study examined the effects of eWOM motivations on customers' eWOM behavior in the hotel setting. Two independent samples (sample 1: positive hotel service encounter, n = 246; sample 2: negative hotel service encounter, n = 230) were collected online via MTurk (Amazon Mechanical Turk). eWOM motivations were divided into positive (self-enhancement and enjoyment, altruism, and economic incentives) and negative motivations (venting negative feelings, altruism, and economic incentives). Self-enhancement and enjoyment was the critical predictor of positive eWOM behavior whereas venting and economic incentives were prominent predictors of negative eWOM behavior. Further, this study examined the moderating role of the Big Five personality traits in the relationship between eWOM motivations and eWOM posting behavior. Notably, agreeableness and conscientiousness were found to interact with self-enhancement and enjoyment, and altruism (both positive and negative) motivational factors, leading to eWOM behavior. Recent evidence highlights a role for sex and hormonal status in regulating cellular responses to ischemic brain injury and neurodegeneration. A key pathological event in ischemic brain injury is the opening of a mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPT) induced by excitotoxic calcium levels, which can trigger irreversible damage to mitochondria accompanied by the release of pro-apoptotic factors. However, sex differences in brain MPT modulation have not yet been explored. Here, we show that mitochondria isolated from female mouse forebrain have a lower calcium threshold for MPT than male mitochondria, and that this sex difference depends on the MPT regulator cyclophilin D (CypD). We also demonstrate that an estrogen receptor beta (ERβ) antagonist inhibits MPT and knockout of ERβ decreases the sensitivity of mitochondria to the CypD inhibitor, cyclosporine A. These results suggest a functional relationship between ERβ and CypD in modulating brain MPT. Moreover, co-immunoprecipitation studies identify several ERβ binding partners in mitochondria. Among these, we investigate the mitochondrial ATPase as a putative site of MPT regulation by ERβ. We find that previously described interaction between the oligomycin sensitivity-conferring subunit of ATPase (OSCP) and CypD is decreased by ERβ knockout, suggesting that ERβ modulates MPT by regulating CypD interaction with OSCP. Functionally, in primary neurons and hippocampal slice cultures, modulation of ERβ has protective effects against glutamate toxicity and oxygen glucose deprivation, respectively. The education-related topics that have been favored by hospitality and tourism scholars in recent years are presented in this opinion paper. We categorized them into six groups: leadership and human capital development, teaching methods with the emphasis on active and experiential learning, online education, diversity education, internationalization, and industry experience. In addition, we shared our thoughts on additional research topics, reflecting the emerging trends in the hospitality and tourism industry as well as hospitality and tourism academia. Specifically, those thoughts include the development of undergraduate students' cultural competency, issues on hospitality and tourism PhD programs, full-fledged online curricula, and relationships with alumni and advisory board. It is our hope that this article provides some insights regarding the current status of hospitality and tourism education, and stirs up interest in education-related research within hospitality and tourism. The Coronavirus disease pandemic is a global health crisis with psychological consequences for healthcare workers. To identify the prevalence and potential factors influencing burnout among frontline nurses in South Korea. This cross-sectional study comprised 161 nurses who voluntarily participated in the survey through advertisements at a general hospital. Data on sociodemographic and professional characteristics, insomnia, depression, anxiety, stress, and burnout were collected via an online questionnaire in 2021. Among the participants, 90 had a high level of burnout. Overall, 59.6 %, 23.0 %, 36.0 %, and 17.4 % of nurses experienced insomnia, depression, anxiety, and stress, respectively. The results showed that the assigned number of patients, insomnia, and depression were the major factors affecting burnout levels of nursing staff. Frontline nurses were the main force in the fight against public health emergencies. Common method variance has received much attention in the behavioral sciences. Nonetheless, scant scholarly effort has been invested in handling common method variance in hospitality research. This study investigates the current status of controlling for common method variance in hospitality research and assists researchers in taking appropriate actions. Study 1 shows hospitality researchers’ endeavors to control for common method bias through a critical review of literature published in four leading hospitality journals in the ten years from 2006 to 2015: International Journal of Hospitality Management , Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, Cornell Hospitality Quarterly and International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management . In Study 2, empirical investigations examine the effectiveness of a procedural remedy (temporal separation) and a statistical control (an unmeasured method factor approach) with two independent samples. The results of Study 1 reveal that most survey-related publications in the four journals fail to address or acknowledge common method variance. Moreover, only a limited number of techniques is found to be used to control for method variance. The findings of Study 2 suggest that temporal separation with a time lag of one day leads to a weak control for method variance; however, the use of an unmeasured method factor significantly helps control for method variance in the model. Purpose: To evaluate the influence of different flush methods on transfemoral cerebral angiography (TFCA).Materials and Methods: This single-blind randomized controlled trial included 50 patients who had undergone TFCA. Balanced block randomization was used to allocate participants into intermittent-flush (n = 25) and continuous-flush (n = 25) groups. Differences in procedure duration, amounts of contrast medium and heparinized saline used, heparin dose, blood loss, fluoroscopy time, radiation dose, and occurrence of new embolic signal (NES) on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) were compared between the two groups.Results: The procedure duration was shorter in the continuous-flush group (mean 26.5 min ± 3.7) than in the intermittent-flush group (mean 29.6 min ± 2.8) (P = .004). Amounts of injected contrast medium (mean 20.2 mL ± 4.4 vs 57.1 mL ± 9.0), wasted heparinized saline (mean 19.8 mL ± 9.6 vs 92.3 mL ± 16.7), and aspirated blood (mean 4.7 mL ± 1.3 vs 13.2 mL ± 2.9) were lower in the continuous-flush group than in the intermittent-flush group (P < .001). The amount of injected (or infused) heparinized saline, heparin dose, fluoroscopy time, radiation dose, and occurrence of NES on DWI did not differ between the groups (P > .05).Conclusions: The use of continuous flushing during TFCA reduced the procedure time, amount of contrast medium needed, amount of wasted heparinized saline, and blood loss, but no difference in the occurrence of NES on DWI was noted between the groups. Although the challenge–hindrance stressor model has received considerable attention in recent years, individual differences have seldom been incorporated. With data collected from 232 hotel employees in South Korea, this study conducted hierarchical regression analyses to detect the critical role of employees’ psychological capital as a moderator in the challenge–hindrance stressor model. We found that employees’ psychological capital buffers the negative impacts of both challenge and hindrance stressors on job burnout. Additionally, we found that for employees high in psychological capital, work engagement increases or remains the same throughout the progression of challenge stressors while for employees low in psychological capital, work engagement decreases. No moderating effect of psychological capital was found in the relationship between hindrance stressors and work engagement. Objective Stress cardiomyopathy (SCM) sometimes develops in patients with non-cardiac medical illness. We hypothesized that soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) can predict SCM. Methods In 76 patients admitted to non-cardiac medical intensive care unit (MICU), echocardiography and sST2 were assessed on admission day (D0) and on the third day (D2). Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) were measured on D0. Results The SCM group (21%, 16/76) showed significantly higher cTnI, BNP, sST2 (D2), and sST2 changes than the non-SCM group. In receiver operator characteristics curve analysis, they equally predicted SCM. In 65 patients with normal cTnI, sST2 (D2) and sST2 changes predicted SCM better than cTnI or BNP. Conclusion Follow-up sST2 and the change in sST2 have additional predictive value for SCM in patients with normal cTnI. A combination strategy of sST2 and cTnI would be useful to predict SCM in patients admitted to the MICU. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: This study uses an appreciative-consumptive (A-C) approach in the conceptualization and measurement of lodging attributes. While the A-C framework has been effectively utilized in related fields like recreation and tourism, it remains undeveloped in the context of lodging. The purpose of this study is to elucidate a conceptual application of the A-C framework to the lodging sector, develop a scale that can be used to measure A-C constructs in the context of lodging for leisure travelers, and demonstrate the research and practical utility of this scale via use in a structural model and cluster analysis. The instrument developed in this study is dubbed the Appreciative-Consumptive Lodging Attribute Scale (A-CLAS). The A-CLAS is envisaged to represent a means for novel research into the study of lodging attributes, and a compelling new platform from which to envision the design, management, and maintenance of the lodging experience. Abstract: Regenerating articular cartilage in vivo from cultured chondrocytes requires that the cells be cultured and implanted within a biocompatible, biodegradable scaffold. Such scaffolds must be mechanically stable; otherwise chondrocytes would not be supported and patients would experience severe pain. Here we report a new 3D braid scaffold that matches the anisotropic (gradient) mechanical properties of natural articular cartilage and is permissive to cell cultivation. To design an optimal structure, the scaffold unit cell was mathematically modeled and imported into finite element analysis. Based on this analysis, a 3D braid structure with gradient axial yarn distribution was designed and manufactured using a custom-built braiding machine. The mechanical properties of the 3D braid scaffold were evaluated and compared with simulated results, demonstrating that a multi-scale approach consisting of unit cell modeling and continuum analysis facilitates design of scaffolds that meet the requirements for mechanical compatibility with tissues. Abstract: This study examines the relative importance of three influential factors (stakeholder pressure, economic opportunities, and top managers’ personal environmental concern) in shaping managerial attitudes toward adoption of green programs in the hotel industry. The results, based on a sample of 235 top managers of hotels affiliated with three U.S. state hotel associations, suggest that stakeholder pressure is the most dominant predictor of managerial attitudes toward adoption of green programs followed by economic benefits and top managers’ personal environmental concern. In addition, the relationship between managerial attitudes toward adoption of environmental programs and organizational environmental commitment is found to be moderated by the ownership style. The relationship is stronger for independent hotels than for chain-affiliated hotels, indicating a more significant role of managerial discretion in implementing environmental strategies at the independent hotel setting than the chain hotel setting. Although previous research has shown that servant leaders can inspire their subordinates to perform better, few studies have investigated the mechanisms that influence supervisor-subordinate guanxi (SSG). In line with theories of social exchange, conservation of resources, and social identity, this research proposes a moderated mediation framework testing the links among servant leaders, psychological safety, SSG, and organizational identification. The bootstrap findings from 323 hotel staff in China showed that 1) servant leadership directly promotes SSG and psychological safety; 2) psychological safety mediated the relationship between servant leadership and SSG; and 3) subordinates' positive organizational identification moderated the relationship between psychological safety and SSG. Moreover, the moderated mediation analysis demonstrates that the mediated relationship linking servant leadership with SSG via psychological safety is stronger when subordinates identify closely with their organization. Abstract: Healthy eating is becoming increasingly important in consumers’ minds. However, the impact of food healthiness on the restaurant business has been understudied. This study examines the interrelationships among perceived restaurant food healthiness, value, satisfaction, and re-patronage intentions in mid-to-upscale restaurants in South Korea. Structural equation modeling analysis reveals that the proposed model is supportive of the sequential, mediated (indirect) relationship (healthiness→value→satisfaction→revisit intentions) among the four variables with the exception of the direct path from healthiness to diner satisfaction (healthiness→satisfaction). In other words, perceived food healthiness increases value and satisfaction; and the feeling of satisfaction functions as a predictor of revisit intentions. Additionally, four healthiness attributes (nutritional information, fresh and natural ingredients, weight control, and nutritionally balanced diet) are found to be essential factors to increase Korean diners’ value perceptions, satisfaction and revisit intentions. Abstract: Bone homeostasis is maintained by a balance between bone resorption by osteoclasts and bone formation by osteoblasts. Osteoporosis occurs when osteoclast activity surpasses osteoblast activity. Pro-inflammatory cytokines stimulate osteoclast differentiation and activity by increasing production of macrophage-colony stimulating factor and receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL). In this study, we investigated whether Magnoliae Flos (MF), one of the most commonly used Chinese medicinal herbs for managing rhinitis, sinusitis and headache, could effectively inhibit osteoporosis. In ovariectomized (OVX) mice compared to sham mice, the body weight increased and serum levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), tartrate resistant acid phosphatase 5b, calcium, and osteocalcin were significantly elevated. However, orally administrated MF extract substantially inhibited the increased body weight and serum levels of bone turnover markers, without any evidence of tissue toxicity. MF extract treatment significantly reversed the morphometric parameters of ovariectomy-induced bone loss, including trabecular bone volume, thickness, number, separation, and bone density, to almost the same levels of the sham mice. Furthermore, MF extract reduced the RANKL-mediated osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption by inhibiting the activities of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and cathepsin K in mouse bone marrow macrophages. MF extract appeared to increase ALP activity in murine osteoblastic cells. Taken together, MF extract may be a beneficial supplement for the blockade of osteoporosis progression, particularly for the management of postmenopausal osteoporosis. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Objectives: Acetazolamide-challenged perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been shown as a method for assessment of cerebrovascular reserve (CVR) capacity in patients with atherosclerotic steno-occlusive disease of internal carotid artery. We have assessed the feasibility of the acetazolamide-challenged perfusion MRI for evaluating CVR in symptomatic patients with severe middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis (≥70%) by comparison with the acetazolamide-challenged technetium-99m-hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (HMPAO) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Methods: Seventeen prospectively enrolled patients with symptomatic unilateral MCA stenosis underwent technetium-99m-hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime SPECT and perfusion MRI without and with acetazolamide challenge, respectively. Acetazolamide-challenged SPECT and perfusion MRI were compared quantitatively by Region of interest (ROI) analysis. Results: At all ROIs, there were no significant differences in percent change between SPECT and perfusion MRI. Patients with impaired CVR showed significant decreases in the percent changes of respective cerebral blood flow (P=.016) and respective cerebral blood volume (P=.029). Conclusion: Acetazolamide-challenged perfusion MRI is feasible for evaluating CVR in symptomatic patients with severe MCA stenosis quantitatively. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The hierarchical regression indicates that EI is by far the most dominant predictor of task coping among all selected explanatory variables; EI does not have much influence on emotion coping after the entry of two basic personality traits (neuroticism and extraversion); and EI is significantly related to avoidance coping encompassing distraction and social diversion. In addition, this study reveals the role played by age and work experience in individual coping efforts and a high possibility of female workers as a task-oriented coper in hospitality work settings. Abstract: This study examines of the ways in which Korean TV dramas affect Taiwanese consumers’ attitudes toward the locations where the dramas are filmed (onscreen locations). Previous studies have incorporated balance theory into product–character association models and have demonstrated that consumers tend to align their attitudes toward products with the valence of a character’s attitudes toward the products. Unlike previous studies, this article attempts to investigate the product–character association model in a cross-cultural setting where the ‘products’ considered are the onscreen locations. To account for the effect of similarity between Taiwanese culture and Korean culture, the concept of perceived cultural proximity is introduced into the balance-theory-based model. The results show that consumers’ parasocial relationships with a character and consumers’ attitudes toward the character are related to their attitudes toward the location. However, this relationship is significant only for those viewers with high perceived cultural proximity between Taiwan and Korea. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
