Abstract: Lactoferrin (LF) plays various anti-inflammatory roles in inflammation experimentally induced by lipopolysaccharides (LPS). But the protective effects of LF on LPS-induced acute lung injury (ALI) have not been elucidated. In this study, we aimed to study the effects of LF on ALI caused by LPS in mice. At 1h before or after LPS injection, an intraperitoneal injection of LF (5mg/body) was administered. Lung specimens and the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were isolated for histopathological examinations and biochemical analyses 12h after LPS exposure. We found that both prophylactic and therapeutic administration of LF significantly decreased the W/D ratio of the lung and protein concentration in the BALF. LF significantly reduced the pulmonary myeloperoxidase activity and the number of total cells in the BALF 12h after LPS challenge. LF treatment markedly attenuated lung edema, alveolar hemorrhage and inflammatory cells infiltration. Moreover, LF also decreased the production of TNF-α and increased interleukin-10 in the BALF. These results firstly indicate that LF may protect against LPS-induced ALI in mice. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Cobalt-based oxides and hydroxides have always been one of the optimal catalysts for Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) in alkaline environment in recent years. However, it remains a challenge for simple cobalt oxides such as CoO, Co 3 O 4 and CoOOH to provide high catalytic activity both with ideal conductivity and stability. Herein, we prepared a new type of sulfur-incorporated cobalt oxide nanocages as high efficiency OER catalyst using Co-MOF as precursor. With the help of sodium sulfide, one step water-warm immersion-alcohol refluxing method can achieve the cavitation of precursors and uniform incorporation of sulfur atoms meanwhile. The hollow cubic structure constructed by fluffy nanosheets is beneficial to the exposure of active sites, the regulation of electronic structure and improve the electron transfer speed. After electrochemical testing, the prepared CoS@CoO showed outstanding OER activity compared with other cobalt-based catalysts. More importantly, this material has also withstood the electrochemical test of long range due to the stable structural foundation provided by Co-MOF. This work comes up with a new idea for OER activity promotion of hollow doped cobalt-based catalysts through morphology control and electronic structure optimization. LiCoO 2 is a kind of promising electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), while it is difficult to successfully achieve the nanosheets morphology of LiCoO 2 with regulated electronic configuration and optimal reaction pathway. Here, we demonstrate that doping Cl ion into the lattice of LiCoO 2-x Cl x ultrathin nanosheets by alkaline molten salt method can bring out dual roles, which not only adjust the covalency of Co-O bond to improve OER activity, but also promote the leaching of Li to activate lattice oxygen. The deep delithiation of LiCoO 2-x Cl x to produce O 2 2– intermediates is inclined to be lattice oxygen mediated mechanism (LOM). The more oxygen vacancies due to the accurate lattice doping of optimized Cl- regulate the coordination environment and electron distribution of Co sites. The electrochemical measurements show that the overpotential of LiCoO 2-x Cl x at 10 mA cm−2 for OER is reduced by 130 mV compared to LiCoO 2 by solid phase synthesized. Additionally, the lattice doping of Cl- can make the current density increase from 7.55 to 26.88 A g−1 at 2.0 V in Anion-exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE). The dual regulation strategy based on lattice doping of halogen ions provides a new viewpoint by adjusting coordination environment and optimizing reaction path for OER. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is still a challenge to develop the high-efficiency noble metal-based electrocatalyst with good dispersion and durability for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in wide pH range. Herein, we have successfully synthesized a nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) coated ultrafine ruthenium phosphides (RuP 2) nanoparticles catalyst with a facile method. With the help of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), the uniform RuP 2 nanoparticles with ultrafine size of about 3 nm are well dispersed on the surface of the NC. The directed coordination between EDTA and Ru ion may be responsible for the excellent structure. Benefiting from the superior electrical conductivity of NC carrier and the reduced resistance of electrons to the active site, the prepared ultrafine RuP 2 @NC demonstrates the obviously enhanced electrocatalytic activity for HER, which results in higher current density and lower overpotentials (99, 98 and 196 mV to reach 10 mA cm−2 in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 , 1 M KOH and 1 M PBS, respectively). The stability is also very good due to the close integration between ultrafine RuP 2 and NC. This work provides a new view to rationally design and synthesize the highly effective, stable and great dispersion of phosphide-based electrocatalysts for HER.
