The Tethyan domain from China to Iran hosts many important sediment-hosted Pb–Zn deposits but most have been poorly documented. This study summarizes the salient features of these deposits and discusses the type of ore, tectonic setting, and important ore controls, on the basis of new geological observations and previous publications. The Tethyan domain is characterized by the young and extensive Himalayan–Tibetan and Zagros orogens that formed through collisions between the India/Arabia and Eurasia continents since the Late Cretaceous or early Cenozoic. Abundant Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) and subordinate clastic-dominated (CD, also known as SEDEX) Pb–Zn deposits occur in this domain, including in central and eastern Himalayan–Tibetan orogen in China, the Indian passive margin in southern Pakistan, and various tectonic units of Iran. Economically important deposits contain 0.1–21 Mt Pb + Zn and have total metal resources of ∼75 Mt with ∼48% being oxidized ores. All major deposits known in this domain are MVTs (i.e., the Jinding, Huoshaoyun, Mehdiabad, and Angouran deposits). Mississippi Valley-type Pb–Zn deposits occur in continental-collision-related fold-and-thrust belts and forelands, where deposits are mostly located on the margin of the Eurasian continent, with some in the Indian and Arabian continental margins. Clastic-dominated Pb–Zn deposits occur in central Iran and southern Pakistan, hosted by deep-water siliciclastic sequences of the early Cambrian rifted continental margin of Gondwana and the Jurassic passive continental margin of India, respectively. The youngest mineralized rocks and ages constrain that some important MVT deposits (e.g., the Jinding, Chaqupacha, and Angouran deposits) were formed after a main phase of regional compression, during a regional, large-scale strike-slip or crustal-extension stage in a continental collision setting. In sense of lithologic structure, important ore controls for MVT deposits include evaporite diapir structure, carbonate/evaporite dissolution–collapse structure, pre-existing barite, and porous dolostone. Much of the primary sulfide ore in this domain has been oxidized by supergene processes. This is particularly pronounced in the newly discovered Huoshaoyun deposit, where almost all sulfides have been oxidized to smithsonite and cerussite. An understanding of tectonic setting, ore controls, and supergene processes is essential in exploring for MVT deposits in this domain. A male, 62 years old, suffering from alopecia universalis, was treated with acupuncture. The treating principle was promoting qi and blood circulation. The selected acupoints included Băihuì (百会GV20), Tàiyáng (太阳EX-HN5), Fēngmén (风门BL12), Xīnshū(心俞BL15), Gānshū(肝俞BL18), Shènshū (肾俞BL23), etc. After treated for 3 months, the hair was grown normally and the hair on the scalp got black obviously. A convenient and efficient approach for the synthesis of α,α-(bisallyl and bispropargyl)-substituted amines has been developed in good yields via Zn-promoted aza -Barbier-type reactions of N -sulfonyl imidates with various allyl and propargyl reagents. A series of novel dithiocarbamate–chalcone derivates were designed, synthesized and evaluated for antiproliferative activity against three selected cancer cell lines (EC-109, SK-N-SH and MGC-803). Majority of the synthesized compounds exhibited moderate to potent activity against all the cancer cell lines assayed. Particularly, compounds II2 and II5 exhibited the excellent growth inhibition against SK-N-SH with IC 50 values of 2.03 μM and 2.46 μM, respectively. Further mechanism studies revealed that compound II2 could obviously inhibit the proliferation of SK-N-SH cells by inducing apoptosis and arresting the cell cycle at G0/G1 phase. A convenient and efficient approach for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydro-2,3′-bisindoles has been developed in good yields via dimerization of N -H indole derivatives. The synthetic utility of this approach was demonstrated by the rapid construction of bisindoles in gram-scale. Biological evaluation revealed that some of the obtained 2,3-dihydro-2,3′-bisindoles exhibited significant in vitro antiproliferative activities on human-derived lung, liver, stomach, and breast cancer cell lines. A series of novel formononetin-dithiocarbamate derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for antiproliferative activity against three selected cancer cell line (MGC-803, EC-109, PC-3). The first structure-activity relationship (SAR) for this formononetin-dithiocarbamate scaffold is explored in this report with evaluation of 14 variants of the structural class. Among these analogues, tert -butyl 4-(((3-((3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-oxo-4 H -chromen-7-yl)oxy)propyl)thio)carbonothioyl)piperazine-1-carboxylate ( 8i ) showed the best inhibitory activity against PC-3 cells (IC 50 = 1.97 μM). Cellular mechanism studies elucidated 8i arrests cell cycle at G1 phase and regulates the expression of G1 checkpoint-related proteins in concentration-dependent manners. Abstract: In this study, the relationship between the local imbalance of angiotensin converting enzymes ACE and ACE2 as well as Ang II and Ang (1–7) and renal injury was observed in the different genotypes mice subjected to tourniquet-induced ischemia–reperfusion on hind limbs. In wild-type mice, renal ACE expression increased while renal ACE2 expression decreased significantly after reperfusion, accompanied by elevated serum angiotensin II (Ang II) level and lowered serum angiotensin (1–7) (Ang (1–7)) level. However, renal Ang (1–7) also increased markedly while renal Ang II was elevated. Renal injury became evident after limb reperfusion, with increased malondialdehyde (MDA), decreased super-oxide dismutase (SOD) activity and increased serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine (Cr), compared to control mice. These mice also developed severe renal pathology including infiltration of inflammatory cells in the renal interstitium and degeneration of tubule epithelial cells. In ACE2 knock-out mice with ACE up-regulation, tourniquet-induced renal injury was significantly aggravated as shown by increased levels of MDA, BUN and Cr, decreased SOD activity, more severe renal pathology, and decreased survival rate, compared with tourniquet-treated wild-type mice. Conversely, ACE2 transgenic mice with normal ACE expression were more resistant to tourniquet challenge as evidenced by decreased levels of MDA, BUN and Cr, increased SOD activity, attenuated renal pathological changes and increased survival rate. Our results suggest that the deregulation of ACE and ACE2 plays an important role in tourniquet-induced renal injury and that ACE2 up-regulation to restore the proper ACE/ACE2 balance is a potential therapeutic strategy for kidney injury.
