Streptococcus canis ( S. canis ), Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus ( S. zooepidemicus ) and Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies ( S. dysgalactiae subspecies) are β-haemolytic Gram positive bacteria infecting animals and humans. S. canis and S. zooepidemicus are considered as two of the major zoonotic species of Streptococcus , while more research is needed on S. dysgalactiae subspecies bacteria. In this work, a multiplex-PCR protocol was tested on strains and clinical samples to detect S. canis , S. dysgalactiae subspecies and S. equi subspecies bacteria in dogs. All strains were correctly identified as S. canis , S. equi subspecies or S. dysgalactiae subspecies by the multiplex-PCR. The main Streptococcus species isolated from symptomatic dogs were confirmed S. canis . The multiplex-PCR protocol described is a rapid, accurate and efficient method for identifying S. canis , S. equi subspecies and S. dysgalactiae subspecies in dogs and could be used for diagnostic purposes and for epidemiological studies. We study the noncommutative generalization of (Euclidean) integrable models in two dimensions, specifically the sine- and sinh-Gordon and the U(N) principal chiral models. By looking at tree-level amplitudes for the sinh-Gordon model we show that its naive noncommutative generalization is not integrable. On the other hand, the addition of extra constraints, obtained through the generalization of the zero-curvature method, renders the model integrable. We construct explicit nonlocal nontrivial conserved charges for the U(N) principal chiral model using the Brezin–Itzykson–Zinn-Justin–Zuber method. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Introduction L’augmentation de la résistance des entérobactéries aux β-lactamines et aux fluoroquinolones constitue l’une des préoccupations majeures des établissements de santé. La diffusion des entérobactéries productrices de β-lactamases à spectre étendu (EBLSE) expose à un risque élevé d’échec clinique lors des traitements probabilistes. Les carbapénèmes restent souvent les molécules de premier choix pour traiter ces infections avec pour conséquence l’émergence de résistances à cette classe. L’objectif principal de cette étude était d’évaluer dans la pratique courante les thérapeutiques administrées et leur efficacité en cas d’infection documentée à EBLSE. Matériels et méthodes Les données épidémiologiques d’une cohorte de patients hospitalisés à court, moyen ou long terme et ayant un prélèvement à visée diagnostique positif à EBLSE ont été recueillies : facteurs de risque d’infection à EBLSE, type d’infection. Les thérapeutiques anti-infectieuses administrées en probabiliste et en documenté ont été notifiées, avec recours éventuel à un carbapénème. L’efficacité du traitement était définie par la survie un mois après la fin de l’antibiothérapie. Résultats En 2016, 74 patients ont été inclus dans un centre hospitalier. L’âge médian était de 80 ans avec une prédominance de femmes (64,9 %). La durée médiane d’hospitalisation était de 10 jours avec un délai moyen de survenue de l’infection de 5,5 j. Les principaux facteurs de risque d’infection à EBLSE étaient l’âge ≥ 80 ans, un séjour à l’hôpital ≥ 14 j, une hospitalisation dans l’année qui précède l’admission, une vie en institution. Les infections urinaires étaient au premier plan. L’espèce la plus fréquemment isolée était Escherichia coli (72,9 %), suivie d’ Enterobacter cloacae complex (16,2 %) dont une seule souche isolée avait un profil de résistance aux carbapénèmes. Quarante-sept patients (63,5 %) ont reçu une antibiothérapie. En probabiliste, la ceftriaxone était la molécule la plus utilisée (27,6 %), suivie des β-lactamines avec inhibiteurs de β-lactamases (BL-IBL) (12,8 %), des carbapénèmes (14,5 %) puis des fluoroquinolones (4,8 %). A la réception de l’antibiogramme, le traitement a été réévalué pour 19 patients : la ceftriaxone a été modifiée dans 70 % des cas ; les BL-IBL ont été employées dans 26,4 % des cas, suivies des carbapénèmes et des fluoroquinolones dans 26,2 % des cas respectivement. L’évolution a été favorable pour 64 patients. Conclusion Les infections à EBLSE représentent un enjeu thérapeutique majeur. Cette étude de vraie vie met en avant certaines molécules qui semblent se positionner comme alternatives thérapeutiques aux carbapénèmes, notamment les BL-IBL, mais aussi d’autres classes après documentation microbiologique et selon le type d’infection. The aims of this work were to evaluate the potential role of enrofloxacin in controlling the severity of the clinical mastitis in sheep caused by Staphylococcus aureus ; to improve cure rates and to minimize the related effects of the disease on the mammary glands. This study was conducted in commercial dairy flocks where there was on going intensive monitoring of subclinical mastitis by Somatic Cell Count (SCC) and bacteriology. Two groups of animals were selected from these flocks. Group A ( n = 34 animals) and Group B ( n = 39 animals) were treated with 2.5 mg/kg bw and 5 mg/kg bw, respectively of enrofloxacin (Baytril ® 5% injectable solution, Bayer, Italy) for three consecutive days (2 doses per day). The effectiveness of the enrofloxacin in curing the S. aureus -induced clinical mastitis was monitored through SCC, rectal temperature, and by systemic and local mammary gland reactions from the 1st to the 14th day post treatment. The presence of S. aureus in milk samples was confirmed by bacteriological examination and PCR before and after treatment. Bacteriological cure was 39% in Group A and 82% in Group B. Both doses significantly reduced SCC ( P < 0.001), while the reduction in Group B was also significantly higher than Group A. Mean rectal temperature as well as local mammary gland and systemic reactions, also decreased significantly in both groups ( P < 0.001). In conclusion, both enrofloxacin concentrations provide bacteriological cure but the higher concentration resulted in greater reduction of clinical mastitis in sheep caused by S. aureus . Abstract: Rosetta, the Solar System cornerstone mission of ESA's Horizon 2000 programme, consists of an orbiter and a lander, and is due to arrive at the comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko in May 2014. Following its 2004 launch, Rosetta carried out a series of planetary fly-bys and gravitational assists. On these close fly-bys of the Earth, measurements were taken by the Visible Infrared Thermal Imaging Spectrometer (VIRTIS). Analysis of these spectra and comparison with spectra acquired by Earth-observing satellites can support the verification of the inflight calibration of Rosetta/VIRTIS. In this paper, measurements taken by VIRTIS in November 2009 are compared with suitable coincident data from Earth-observing instruments (ESA-ENVISAT/AATSR and SCIAMACHY, and EOS-TERRA/MODIS). Radiative transfer simulations using NEMESIS (Irwin et al., 2008) are fit to the fly-by data taken by VIRTIS, using representative atmospheric and surface parameters. VIRTIS measurements correlate 90% with AATSR's, 85–94% with MODIS, and 82–88% with SCIAMACHYs. The VIRTIS spectra are reproducible in the 1–5μm region, except in the 1.4μm deep water vapour spectral absorption band in the near-infrared in cases in which the radiance is very low (cloud-free topographies), where VIRTIS consistently registers more radiance than do MODIS and SCIAMACHY. Over these cloud-free regions, VIRTIS registers radiances a factor of 3–10 larger than SCIAMACHY and of 3–8 greater than MODIS. It is speculated that this discrepancy could be due to a spectral light leak originating from reflections from the order-sorting filters above the detector around 1.4μm. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
