[Display omitted] • Modified clinoptilolites have excellent PAH adsorption and accumulation capacity. • PAH accumulation ranged from 0.7 to 1.6 mg/g and leachability was <5%. • >95% of PAHs were removed from landfill leachate, meeting BC water quality criteria. The authors report the potential adsorption capacities of three surfactant-modified clinoptilolites (MC)—cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC)-MC, didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB)-MC, and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDTMA)-MC—for the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from aquatic environments and landfill leachate. A liquid–liquid extraction method was used to extract PAHs from water and GC/MS was used to analyse the PAHs. PAH accumulations on CPC-MC, DDAB-MC, and HDTMA-MC were linear over 21 successive batch adsorption tests for anthracene (708, 737, and 750 µg/g), fluoranthene (1355, 1583, and 1303 µg/g), fluorene (973, 1060, and 1147 µg/g), phenanthrene (844, 1057, and 989 µg/g), and pyrene (1343, 1569, and 1269 µg/g). The leachability after 21 successive accumulations was <2% for anthracene, <4% for fluoranthene, <3% for fluorene, <4% for pyrene, and <5% for phenanthrene for each adsorbent. PAH removals from landfill leachate for anthracene, fluoranthene, fluorene, phenanthrene, and pyrene were 97.8%, 98.6%, 95.7%, 97.0%, and 98.5% for CPC-MC and 99.0%, 99.6%, 98.0%, 99.0%, and 99.6% for DDAB-MC, respectively, meeting the fresh water quality standards established by British Columbia and the World Health Organization (WHO) for anthracene, fluoranthene, and fluorene. • A non-invasive detector was constructed to measure the arterial input function for dynamic PET. • The detector was compared against a microfluidic blood-sampling detector. • Scintillating fibers can detect positrons escaping a wrist phantom. Kinetic modeling of positron emission tomography (PET) data can assess index rate of uptake, metabolism and predict disease progression more accurately than conventional static PET. However, it requires knowledge of the time-course of the arterial blood radioactivity concentration, called the arterial input function (AIF). The gold standard to acquire the AIF is by invasive means. The purpose of this study was to validate a previously developed dual readout scintillating fiber-based non-invasive positron detector, hereinafter called non-invasive detector (NID), developed to determine the AIF for dynamic PET measured from the human radial artery. The NID consisted of a 3 m long plastic scintillating fiber with each end coupled to a 5 m long transmission fiber followed by a silicon photomultiplier. The scintillating fiber was enclosed inside the grooves of a plastic cylindrical shell. Two sets of experiments were performed to test the NID against a previously validated microfluidic positron detector. A closed-loop microfluidic system combined with a wrist phantom was used. During the first experiment, the three PET radioisotopes
18 F ,11 C and68 Ga were tested. After optimizing the detector, a second series of tests were performed using only18 F and11 C. The maximum pulse amplitude to electronic noise ratio was 52 obtained with11 C. Linear regressions showed a linear relation between the two detectors. These preliminary results show that the NID can accurately detect positrons from a patient's wrist and has the potential to non-invasively measure the AIF during a dynamic PET scan. 47. Investigating the gas-phase reaction mechanism of catechol with ozone: Product analysis and insights.

Volatile aromatic compounds (VOCs) are ubiquitous in the environment, they can be emitted from biogenic and anthropogenic sources. They can contribute to the formation of many products leading to the formation of secondary organic aerosols (SOA). The products of the gas phase reaction of 1,2-benzenediol (catechol) with ozone were studied in a simulation chamber at atmospheric pressure and 294 ± 2 K in presence of different levels of relative humidity (0–60%). The gas phase products were monitored continuously by a PTR-ToF-MS for 2 h, whereas filters samples were collected directly from the reaction chamber and analyzed by thermo-desorption gas chromatography; TD-GC-MS. This study shows the different potential chemical pathways that catechol could follow to form a variety of products under dry, low and high humidity conditions. The molecular mass 98 was found to be distinctive and appears in the gas phase when humidity in the reaction chamber is between 20 and 60%. Other new masses (m/z) such as 176, 154, 116, 68, 72, 80, 96, 108, and 124 were also detected under different experimental conditions. Furthermore, the catechol concentration has been monitored continuously by a PTR-ToF-MS from low to high humidity conditions (RH = 7.5−78.8%). The purpose of the latter is to suggest that the formation of catechol-H 2 O clusters occurs in the gas phase of the reaction chamber causing a decrease in catechol reactivity towards ozone and other gases and subsequently a decrease in the rate constant. The Aeronautical Radio Incorporated (ARINC) 664 Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet (AFDX) data bus has been developed based on the Ethernet standard Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.3, including redundancy, guaranteed bandwidth, and deterministic timing of transmit interval time to meet the increasing amounts of data exchange needs among aircraft equipment while reducing the harness weight. Isolated data tunnels, called Virtual Links (VLs), are established to route Ethernet frames from a single source to one or more destinations using end systems and switches that contain a static routing mechanism specific to ARINC 664 AFDX. A limited number of algorithmic approaches are presented in the literature to route VLs; however, they are proven in uncomplicated topologies. Depending on the technological development, the node amount consisting of End Systems (ESs), Switches, and Remote Data Concentrators (RDCs) in the aircraft data bus structure will increase enormously. Bandwidth utilization (BWU), bandwidth flexibility limit for further extensions, port usage, total harness weight, latency, and redundancy should be considered in addition to number of nodes to determine VLs' route paths in ARINC 664 AFDX networks. In such cases, determining optimal paths of VLs in ARINC 664 AFDX networks becomes a challenging problem to solve with the existing methods in the literature. This paper proposes an Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) based algorithm to determine optimal VL path routes in the complex topology of ARINC 664 AFDX networks considering multi-effective parameters. Experimental simulations are executed to confirm the validity of the presented algorithm in different case studies and show its applicability in the industry. The obtained results of the proposed algorithm outperform conventional algorithms existing in the literature in terms of bandwidth usage depending on predefined expansion capacity and solution time. The proposed algorithm also introduces novelty by considering the redundancy, total harness weight, and delay limit, which is deficient in the existing literature. • Propose new algorithm for virtual links routing in highly complex networks. • Considering multiple constraints of avionics industry for optimal routing. • New method determines faster optimal routes with less processing power. • Detecting and removing unnecessary network elements for reducing overall cost/weight. • Proposed algorithm eliminates merger and integration problems in large networks.
