35. Improving abrasion resistance of low temperature enamel (LTE) coating by alumina addition.

Abstract

Low temperature enamel (LTE) coating has advantages in material durability, hardness, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature tolerance, but shows unsatisfying abrasion resistance due to its brittle nature. Here, alumina was added to the LTE coating with contents of 0, 5, and 10 wt%. The thermal stability of alumina in the LTE matrix and the microstructure, phase composition, microhardness, impact resistance, adhesion strength, abrasion resistance, and corrosion protection properties of different LTE coatings were investigated. Results indicated that alumina had high thermal and chemical stabilities in the LTE matrix without affecting the pore structure of the coating. As an abrasion-resistant filler, alumina increased the hardness and impact resistance of LTE coatings while reducing adhesion strength. In the abrasion test, alumina showed an advantage in delaying the formation and expansion of cracks, and the alumina-enhanced LTE coating demonstrated a 70 % reduction in mass and thickness losses when compared to pure LTE coating. In particular, all LTE coatings survived 8000 cycles of abrasion without significant degradation in corrosion protection. The findings of this study confirmed the feasibility of alumina as an abrasion-resistant filler and provided a modified LTE coating for coupled corrosion and abrasion conditions. Abstract

• The hydrothermal epitaxy growth follows an erosion-and-regrowth mechanism. • The uneven distribution of local elements are formed mainly due to excessive Na. • The uneven distribution locally disturbs the displacements of the B-site cations. • Oxygen octahedron exhibits continuous tilt patterns of a 0 a 0 a 0 - a − b 0 c − - a 0 a 0 c − - a 0 b − c − - a − b − c −. Revealing the epitaxial growth mechanism and the interfacial coupling effect between oxide films will help to build a "structure-property" bridge for the design of microelectronic devices. Here, the epitaxial growth mechanism and the interfacial coupling in Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 /SrTiO 3 (BNT/STO) heterointerfaces are investigated by the aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy, which is synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The results illustrate that 4 mol/L NaOH leads to not only the epitaxial growth of the BNT film but also the mutual diffusion of elements. The uneven distribution of local elements in BNT films is observed and confirmed to impact the cation displacements of B-site and lattice distortion. However, the overall trend of B-site cation displacement at the BNT/STO heterointerfaces is dominated by the interfacial strain. Additionally, the oxygen octahedral tilt exhibits continuous tilt patterns of a 0 a 0 a 0 - a − b 0 c − - a 0 a 0 c − - a 0 b − c − - a − b − c − from the substrate to BNT film due to the constraint of the substrate and presents a strong correlation with cation displacement. Abstract

Enamel coating has potential application in steel rebar protection due to its high durability, excellent corrosion resistance, and strong coating/concrete interface bond. The newly developed low temperature enamel (LTE) coating has a substantially lower sintering temperature than that of traditional enamel coatings, whereas its adhesion mechanism to the substrate is expected to vary dramatically. In this study, abrasives of various particle sizes were used to blast steel substrates to create various surface states, to investigate the influence of substrate surface roughening on the interfacial properties of LTE coating. The surface roughness of substrates was quantitatively characterized by a 3D optical profiler. The adhesion, impact resistance, and abrasion resistance of LTE coating under different substrate surface states were investigated by pull-off, falling weight impact, and Taber abrasion test, respectively. The results showed that with increasing substrate surface roughness, the adhesion strength and impact resistance of the LTE coating were greatly improved. Within the investigated range, the substrate surface roughness had negligible influence on abrasion resistance. Overall, appropriate substrate surface roughening can provide the LTE coating with sufficient interface adhesion, impact resistance, and abrasion resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In the field of medical imaging, the automatic detection and segmentation of colon polyps is particularly crucial for the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer. However, existing methods often face limitations when processing polyp images, especially under low-contrast and blurred boundary conditions, which hinder the recognition of complex features and thus affect the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosis. The challenge is further compounded by a lack of flexibility and precision in differentiating polyps of various sizes and shapes. To address these challenges, this study presents an advanced segmentation method that integrates a Pyramid Vision Transformer (PVT) encoder with a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) decoder. The encoder, which utilizes the multi-level transformer modules of the PVT, effectively captures the intricate details and contextual information of the image, enabling precise extraction of complex features within polyp images. The decoder incorporates a Progressive Grouped Convolutional Fusion (PGCF) module that extracts multi-scale features through dilated convolutional kernels with different dilation rates. Coupled with attention mechanisms and differential subtraction strategies, our method not only enhances the feature fusion capability but also significantly improves the delineation of polyp boundaries. By integrating the PGCF module, differential operations, and multi-scale fusion strategies, our approach overcomes the limitations of existing colon polyp segmentation techniques. Experimental results on a large-scale annotated colon polyp image dataset show that our method demonstrates excellent performance and robustness in localizing and segmenting polyps of diverse sizes, shapes, and textures.
