Phylica (Rhamnaceae) plants are mainly distributed in southern Africa and nearby islands. They play a crucial role in studying diversification rates, climate change, and vegetation evolution in the Cape Flora. However, there have been no reports on the complete chloroplast genome of Phylica species, which is essential for investigating evolution and phylogenetic relationships. Herein, we sequenced the complete chloroplast genome of Phylica pubescens and conducted a comparative analysis with 12 Rhamnaceae species. The chloroplast genome size of Phylica pubescens was 161,187 bp, similar to that of other Rhamnaceae species. The absence of infA and psbL genes in certain Rhamnaceae species, compared to Phylica pubescens , has no apparent impact on these species. Positive selection has been observed in the rpl32, psbK , and psbH genes of Rhamnaceae species. Some highly variable regions (trnH -GUG– psbA, trnK -UUU– rps16, rps16 – trnQ -UUG, trnS -GCU– trnG -UCC, trnR -UCU– atpA, atpH – atpI, trnC -GCA– petN, trnT -GGU– psbD, psbZ – trnG -GCC, trnT -UGU– trnL -UAA, ndhC – trnV -UAC, accD – psaI, petA – psbJ, ndhF – rpl32 , and rpl32 – trnL -UAG) were identified, which might be useful for phylogenetic analysis. Based on complete chloroplast genomes for the greatest number of species, the phylogenetic tree of the Rhamnaceae was reconstructed. Phylica pubescens displayed a close phylogenetic relationship with Spyridium species. Specific diagnosis and therapy of cancer is still a challenge in biomedical research. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a novel therapeutic modality for cancer treatment. However, the traditional PDT photosensitizers often exhibit low specific selectivity. In this study, we have reported a dual-targeted theranostic photosensitizer FL-RGD by covalently conjugating tumor marker cyclic arginine-glycine-aspartic acid tripeptide (RGD) and a fluorescein derivative FL which has a property of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and a long triplet lifetime for efficient PDT. The FL-RGD can target tumor tissues and further locate lysosomes of tumor cells to concurrently achieve the cancers' specific diagnosis and efficient treatment. The mechanism of its highly efficient PDT was attributed to the damage of lysosome via 1O 2. Besides, FL-RGD has the potential to be utilized in depth imaging and treatment by two-photon excitation. The actual diagnosis performance of FL-RGD was proved by fluorescence imaging of living cells and tumor bearing mice. The therapy performance was proved by MTT assays, fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) analysis and PDT experiments on tumor bearing mice. The research obviously exhibited the potential of FL-RGD for tumor theranostics in vivo and in vitro. An accurate understanding of the elastostatic properties for flange-bolted joints is crucial in modeling the nonlinear dynamics. In this study, the elastostatics of the flange are investigated through finite element (FE) analysis and experimental test. It is shown that the axial stiffness exhibits bi-linear properties, and the flange appears axial-flexural coupling deformations under bending moments. Then, to understand the bi-linear axial stiffness properties and the influence of bolt preloads on axial and bending stiffnesses, the bolted T-stub joint is chosen as the object of study, and the relevant mechanical model is further presented based on linear elasticity. Meanwhile, the validity of the mechanical model is numerically verified. The analysis indicates that under tension and compression, the essence of the bi-linear axial stiffness is the differences in interface contact status, and the coupling deformations are induced by different tensile and compressive stiffnesses. Abstract WB 2 /CrN multilayer films with thick modulation periods over 50 nm (Λ = 1400, 315, 235, 150, 55 nm) were synthesized by direct-current magnetron sputtering, and the influence of modulation period on microstructure and mechanical properties for the multilayer films was systematically studied. In WB 2 /CrN multilayer films, CrN sublayers present the columnar microstructure. As Λ decreases, the structure of WB 2 sublayers evolves from (110) orientation to (001) orientation to amorphous structure, and critical crystalline thickness for WB 2 sublayers is over 150 nm here. A transition layer, which shows the columnar crystal with size of 10–11 nm high and 2.5–3.5 nm wide caused by the effect of the crystalline interface of the CrN sublayers, is detected in WB 2 sublayers. Additionally, a-BN, WB 2 , WB 2 (N), CrN, Cr 2 N and Cr 2 O 3 phase are formed in the multilayer films. Moreover, film hardness mainly obeys the rule of mixture. The maximum hardness of 31.2 GPa is obtained at Λ = 315 nm due to crystalline WB 2 sublayers with (001) preferred orientation, and amorphous WB 2 sublayers greatly reduce the film hardness to only 22.3–24.3 GPa at Λ ≤ 235 nm. Consequently, the poor hardness leads to the higher wear rates (5.7–7.8 × 10−7 mm3/mN) of multilayer films with Λ ≤ 235 nm compared with those (2.9–3.3 × 10−7 mm3/mN) of other films. However, both the fracture toughness and adhesive strength of the films present an increasing trend with decreasing Λ, resulting from the soft CrN and BN phases and a certain amount of interface. In conclusion, decreasing the critical crystal-thickness of the WB 2 sublayers, controlling the N content in WB 2 sublayers and getting sharp interfaces will play important roles in developing the higher-performance WB 2 /CrN multilayer films. The trending integrations of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS, stationary battery) and Electric Vehicles (EV, mobile battery) to distribution grids call for advanced Demand Side Management (DSM) technique that addresses the scalability concerns of the system and stochastic availabilities of EVs. Towards this goal, a stochastic DSM is proposed to capture the uncertainties in EVs. Numerical approximation is then used to make the problem tractable. To accelerate the computational speed, the proposed DSM is tightly relaxed to a convex form using second-order cone programming. Furthermore, in light of the continuous increasing problem size, a distributed method with a guaranteed convergence is applied to shift the centralized computational burden to distributed controllers. To verify the proposed DSM, real-life EV data collected on UCLA campus is used to test the proposed DSM in an IEEE benchmark test system. In this study, considering the elastoplastic behavior of contacting asperities on micro-scale and the contact pressure distribution of bolted joint interfaces on macro-scale, an improved contact stiffness model is presented. Firstly, the bolted T -stub joint is chosen as the object of study, and the distribution of normal contact load over the interface under preload conditions is studied. Then, combining the continuity, smoothness and monotonicity of the constitutive relations of normal contact load-deformation in three different regimes of plastic- elastoplastic-elastic of contacting asperities, the contact stiffness of individual asperity is analytically derived. Meanwhile, the relation between the distribution of contact stiffness and the distribution of normal contact load for bolted joint interfaces is determined based on fractal theory. The presented model overcomes the shortcomings of the contact stiffness without elastoplastic behavior obtained from the MB model and reveals the inhomogeneous distribution features of interfacial contact stiffness in bolted joints. Finally, the finite element (FE) analysis for flange-bolted joints incorporating the proposed model and the relevant experimental verification are performed. The results show that the average error of the first 4-order natural frequencies between the FE results and the experimental ones is only 0.72%, and the predicted results in frequency-domain are consistent with the measured ones, which illustrates that the proposed model can be used in interface modeling of jointed structures. The shading treatment which decreases light intensity affects the ornamental characteristics in herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.), including flower color, leaf shape and stem straightness. However, the morphological, microstructural and lignin-related responses of its stems to shading have not been systematically and deeply studied. Here, we focused on these responses to shading treatment in herbaceous peony stems. Morphological results showed that shading treatment significantly bended stems, decreased stem diameters, lightened stem weights and reduced stem strength. Microstructural observations demonstrated that shading treatment decreased vascular bundle number, xylem area, xylem ratio and secondary cell wall (SCW) thickness. Lignin-related analysis revealed that shading treatment markedly decreased lignin content in cell walls especially S-lignin and G-lignin, deposition in SCWs and related enzyme activities. Furthermore, transcriptomic analysis showed that shading treatment suppressed lignin-related processes, lignin biosynthetic pathway and lignin-related transcriptional activators. Collectively, shading treatment suppressed lignin biosynthesis and reduced lignin deposition in SCW, leading to undeveloped secondary xylem and bender stems. Considering the non-uniformly distributed contact pressure, this study presents a new contact characteristic parameters (contact stiffness and damping) model for bolted joint interfaces. Firstly, to transform the contact pressure distribution into normal contact load distribution, the contact pressure distribution and its mathematical representation of single-bolted joint are studied. Subsequently, the relationships among contact stiffness distribution, contact damping distribution and normal contact load distribution are determined based on the improved MB model. It is found that the interfacial contact stiffness and damping exhibit significant inhomogeneous distributions. The proposed model overcomes the shortcomings of homogeneous distributions of contact stiffness and damping in bolted joints derived from previous models. In addition, the effects of bolt preload, tangential-to-normal contact load ratio and friction coefficient on the contact stiffness and damping are discussed in detail. Finally, the finite element (FE) analysis for beam lap structure with bolted joints incorporating the proposed model and the relevant experimental are performed to verify the validity of the modeling method. Abstract: Cerium modified cobalt chromite catalysts were prepared via co-precipitation method and investigated for the catalytic combustion of methane. Characterization studies by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, BET, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), temperature-programmed reduction mass spectroscopy (CH4 TPR-MS) and temperature-programmed desorption of oxygen (O2-TPD) were carried out. An improvement of the catalytic activity was observed over cerium-substituted cobalt chromite catalysts with appropriate cerium substitution degrees. The best result has been attained with 5% cerium modified catalyst, for which 5% chromium in CoCr2O4 was substituted by cerium, and the catalytic activity reached 90% of methane conversion at 465°C. The characterization results indicated that cerium doping could deform the spinel structure and cause redistribution of metal ions with different oxidation states; consequently, they would increase crystal defects and oxygen vacancy concentration, which facilitate oxygen mobility and thus increase the catalytic performance of cerium modified cobalt chromite catalysts. Thermal plasma treatment has been considered as one of promising methods for fly ash disposal. In this study, firstly, the characteristics of municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash and sewage sludge incineration (SSI) fly ash were analyzed, followed by the raw material formulations of low melting temperature determined by thermodynamic equilibrium calculation. Then verified experiments were carried out by thermal plasma system, focused on the formation condition of vitrified slags with various CaO-SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 ratios and the influence factors of heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb, Zn, Cu) transference. According to the results: During the co-treatment process of fly ashes, a lower temperature of vitrified slag formation as low as 1230 ℃ was observed. Vitrification is determined by the molten phase content during melting process, the correlation coefficient between the glass phase content of slag and the molten phase content was 0.81 (P < 0.01). CaO content of raw materials was a major element for the volatilization of Cd and Pb. High Al 2 O 3 content can remain more Cr, Cu and Ni in slags, but it is not conducive to the solidification of Zn. The paper presents the numerical investigations for a light civil helicopter fuselage with the purpose of reducing the helicopter drag. Two numerical methods: Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and a hybrid RANS-LES method: improved delayed detached-eddy simulation (IDDES) method are performed for the simulation of a prototype helicopter fuselage. The RANS method is validated by a modular helicopter fuselage with experimental data, while the IDDES method has already been used in other studies and good results have been achieved. The numerical results of the civil helicopter in terms of the aerodynamic coefficients obtained by the two methods are consistent with each other. Compared to the RANS method, the IDDES approach is capable of predicting the large separation flow of the fuselage/components and the small-scale vortices in the flow field. It is found that the hybrid method captures the periodically detached separating vortices behind the skid struts, while the flow at the same position simulated by the RANS method is still attached. Moreover, separating vortices, which develop diagonally upwards, are captured at fuselage/tail-boom junction by the hybrid method, whereas RANS simulation doesn't predict. Subsequently, the design of the helicopter drag reduction is carried out at α = 0 deg angle of attack and 0.2 Mach number through shape optimization based on the numerical simulations, and the numerical results are verified by the force tests. It shows that the optimization of the landing skids aims at reducing the strong Karman vortex shedding effect induced by the skids, which greatly decreases the total drag. Combined with the optimization of the fuselage/tail-boom transition, this approach suppresses the separation flow of the fuselage and reduces the pressure drag, and the adjustment of transition slope benefits of up to 1.18% drag reduction, while the extension of transition reduces the drag by 2.64%. The optimization of tail-boom layout demonstrates that lower tail-boom layout can contribute to a drag reduction by 4.37% (RANS) and 3.89% (test), respectively, when compared to the original tail-boom layout. Straight stems are highly important to herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) cut flowers. To clarify whether the microstructural and lignin characteristics are associated with P. lactiflora stem mechanical strength, eight cultivars were used to study their anatomical structure, secondary cell wall, lignin deposition, lignin content and structure, lignin biosynthetic enzyme activity and related gene expression levels. The results showed that stem diameter was a direct indicator estimating its mechanical strength. Simultaneously, the number of vascular bundles, area of vascular bundles, number of duct perforations, ratio of xylem to cross-section and thickness of secondary cell wall had significant positive correlations with stem mechanical strength. Moreover, three lignin monomers were all detected in the stem, and the contents of S-lignin, G-lignin and total lignin in high stem mechanical strength cultivars were higher than those in low stem mechanical strength cultivars as a whole, and lignin was deposited in the cell walls of the sclerenchyma, vascular bundle sheath and duct. Additionally, cinnamate 4-hydroxylase (C4H), cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities in high stem mechanical strength cultivars were higher than those in low stem mechanical strength cultivars as a whole, and CAD might be the key gene among detected lignin biosynthetic genes. Consequently, microstructural and lignin characteristics were closely correlated with stem mechanical strength in P. lactiflora. Herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) is a popular high-end cut flower, but stem bending caused by low stem strength severely decreases its quality. To enhance stem strength, the regulatory effects of exogenous silicon were investigated in P. lactiflora. The results showed that silicon application enhanced stem strength by increasing the thickness of secondary cell walls and the layers of thickened secondary cells. Moreover, more lignin accumulated, particularly G-lignin and S-lignin, and the activities of lignin biosynthetic enzymes increased with silicon application. In addition, based on transcriptome analysis, silicon application induced the expression of genes participating in lignin biosynthesis pathway. Among them, hydroxycinnamoyl-CoA: shikimate hydroxycinnamoyl transferase gene (HCT1) was isolated from P. lactiflora and found to be mainly localized in the cytoplasm of cells. Overexpression of PlHCT1 increased the layers of thickened secondary cells and lignin accumulation in tobacco, resulting in enhanced stem strength and demonstrably straight stems. Finally, silicon content, lignin content and PlHCT1 expression in P. lactiflora cultivars with high stem strengths were totally higher than those in cultivars with low stem strengths. These results indicated that silicon application enhanced stem strength by promoting lignin accumulation in P. lactiflora , which has prospects for stem quality improvement in general. Paeonia ostii is an emerging woody oil crop, but drought severely inhibits its growth and promotion in arid or semiarid areas, and little is known about the mechanism governing this inhibition. In this study, the full-length cDNA of a caffeoyl-CoA O -methyltransferase gene (CCoAOMT) from P. ostii was isolated, and determined to be comprised of 987 bp. PoCCoAOMT encoded a 247-amino acid protein, which was located in the nucleus and cytosol. Significantly higher PoCCoAOMT transcription was detected in P. ostii treated with drought stress. Subsequently, the constitutive overexpression of PoCCoAOMT in tobacco significantly conferred drought stress tolerance. Under drought stress, transgenic lines exhibited lower reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and higher antioxidant enzyme activities and photosynthesis. Moreover, the expression levels of senescence-associated genes were significantly downregulated, whereas the expression levels of lignin biosynthetic genes and PoCCoAOMT were significantly upregulated in transgenic lines. Similarly, transgenic lines produced significantly higher lignin, especially guaiacyl-lignin. Despite extensive academic and commercial development, a comprehensive understanding of the principles necessary for high-yield production of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is lacking, whether in oriented films, bulk powders, or other forms. In chemical vapor deposition growth of CNT films on substrates, trace contaminants of carbon, such as deposits on the reactor tube walls, are known to cause inconsistency in key production metrics, including CNT density and alignment. In this study, we show that trace exposure of the catalyst to carbon during initial heating of the catalyst film is a critical determinant of CNT yield, and this carbon exposure accelerates catalyst nanoparticle formation via film dewetting and increases the probability of CNT nucleation and the resultant density of the CNT population. By controlled exposure of the catalyst to a trace amount of carbon, we show up to a 4-fold increase in bulk mass density for a given forest height, an 8-fold increase in local CNT number density, and a 2-fold increase in the growth lifetime, relative to a reference condition. We discuss potential mechanisms to explain the role of carbon exposure on the probability of CNT nucleation from nanoparticle catalysts, supported by microscopy and gas analysis. The deactivation of catalysts by potassium and the promotion of cerium on MnO x /TiO 2 for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH 3 are investigated by both experiments and DFT calculations. Catalyst poisoning by K is due to the decrease of surface acidity, the loss of reducibility and the improvement of stable nitrite/nitrate species. When the catalyst is modified by CeO 2 , SCR activities of both fresh and poisoned catalysts are improved. Cerium provides new Lewis acid sites for NH 3 adsorption, which does not seem to be influenced by K. The Ce 4f orbitals of poisoned surfaces are nearly unaffected, which preserve reducibility of catalyst for NH 3 activation. We introduce a notion of postfix automata and apply it to finite automata constructions. We give a compact method for constructing smaller nondeterministic finite automata (NFAs) from given regular expressions. There are four steps in our method. First, we convert one or more given regular expressions into postfix form, better known as Reverse Polish notation, and call it a postfix regular expression . Second, we construct a syntax tree for the postfix regular expression. Next, we code the syntax tree using a specific algorithm and finally, we construct an NFA based on the coded syntax tree. Using our method we can obtain smaller NFAs, called postfix automata , with only one starting state and one final state. In this paper, we prove several notions and present a classical example to compare the size of a postfix automaton with the NFAs created by several classical construction methods. • This work presents a method for absolute flow velocity measurement in spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SDOCT). • The probe arm of SDOCT is mounted on a dividing head which can change the incident angle of the probe beam. • By rotating the dividing head and reading the scale, Doppler angle of flow can be achieved. • The method is demonstrated with capillary phantom and blood flows of chicken embryo in vivo. Abnormal blood flow in the early stage of embryonic heart can lead to cardiac defects. Thus, accurate flow measurement in the embryonic heart is important for related studies. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive imaging approach which can provide flow velocity distribution information with high spatial and temporal resolution. However, OCT is only sensitive to velocity components parallel to the probing beam. To measure absolute flow velocity, additional information, such as Doppler angle, is required. Here, we propose a practical method to measure Doppler angle by introducing a dividing head to probe the arm of OCT. The incident angle of the probe beam can be controlled by rotating the dividing head. With the scale of the dividing head, rotating angle can be obtained. In each measurement, probe beam is adjusted to a proper angle by real time flow monitoring. Then, the probe beam is rotated perpendicularly to the flow velocity, i.e. Doppler angle is π/2 , and the Doppler angle can be calculated. This method is validated by capillary phantom. • A new pattern bundle with a smaller wire diameter of peripheral rods was proposed. • The comparative study between the new bundle and the conventional one was carried out by RANS-based CFD simulation. • The better flow and heat transfer performance was obtained for the new pattern bundle. In this paper, a new pattern bundle with a smaller wire diameter of peripheral rods was proposed. By decreasing the wire diameter of peripheral rods, the flow area of peripheral sub-channels is reduced diverting more coolant towards the central sub-channels. This would lead to a more uniform sub-channel temperatures distribution. To analyze the flow and heat transfer performance of the new bundle, the comparative study between the new bundle and conventional one was carried out by RANS-based CFD simulation. It was found that decreasing the partial wire diameters, the uniformity of coolant flow distribution is improved, resulting in a more homogeneous temperature distribution. The local transverse pressure difference characterizing global swirl motion is smaller, resulting in a weaker sweeping flow in peripheral sub-channels. Moreover, the obvious sweeping flow also could be observed in inter-connected sub-channels due to the smaller wire diameter of peripheral rods. At last, Nusselt number and friction factor are the parameters targeted for the investigation, and the results show that the thermal-hydraulics performance of the new bundle has been significantly improved. Abstract: A serious of Fe/HBEA catalysts were prepared by impregnation methods under different calcination temperatures, and their catalytic activity in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x with ammonia were tested. The influence of calcination temperature on the microstructures of zeolite support, iron species, redox ability and reactant adsorption ability was investigated in detail by various characterization methods. Results showed that calcination temperature showed significantly influence on catalytic activity and selectivity of serial Fe/HBEA catalysts in NH3-SCR reaction. Some agglomeration of Fe/HBEA catalyst occurred at high calcination temperature (especially above 850°C), which result in drastic decrease of surface area and pore volume of Fe/HBEA catalysts. Meanwhile, the surface Lewis and Brönsted acidity of zeolite did not change when the calcination temperature was below 750°C, but significantly decreased above 850°C. Furthermore, high temperature aging led to some reduction migration of iron ions out of ion exchange sites on the Fe/HBEA catalyst. Consequently, iron oxide clusters are mainly formed upon Fe migration, which contributed to the SCR activity above 450°C. The deactivation of Fe/HBEA catalysts calcined at high temperatures was ascribed to surface area and pore volume decrease, Lewis and Brönsted acid sites inhibition, and the loss of iron ions and formation of iron oxide clusters. Abstract: It is found that phenol can react with potassium permanganate in the acidic medium and produce chemiluminescence, which is greatly enhanced by formaldehyde. The optimum conditions for this chemiluminescent reaction are in detail studied using a flow injection system. The experiments indicate that under optimum conditions, the chemiluminescence intensity is linearly related to the concentration of phenol in the range 5.0×10−9 to 1.0×10−6 gmL−1 with a detection limit (3σ) of 3×10−9 gmL−1. The relative standard deviation is 1.2% for 4.0×10−7 gmL−1 phenol solution in 11 repeated measurements. This method has the advantages of simple operation, fast response and high sensitivity. The expanding process of turbulent separation bubble induced by a horn ice on the leading edge of an airfoil for business jet was investigated numerically with IDDES. Through comparing with the experiment results of critical stall condition, the fidelity of method for detailed simulation of ice-induced separation was verified firstly. Then the separation bubble under post-stall conditions was investigated in the aspects of both the features of averaged static flowfield and the behaviors of transient shear-layer vortices. The averaged results manifested that during the stall process, the bubble expanded with stretching and deformation for reattachment line and turbulence region were shifted towards trailing edge and spread continually. The corresponding extending and descending of pressure plateau with weak pressure gradient resulted in an early but mitigated stall pattern consequently. From the transient flowfield, it was observed that the entire evolution process of bubble was driven by the hairpin-type vortices generated from the shedding shear-layer with K-H instability. The propagation direction of these shear-layer vortices was affected by the entrainment of external flow. Under the post-stall condition, the motion of vortices towards the wall was delayed with the increasing of incidence and the interaction between vortices and wall was weakened correspondingly, which leaded the gradual decrease of reattachment effect and the continuous expanding of recirculation region.
