In recent years, para- quinone methides (p- QMs) have been recognized as a series of electron-deficient alkenes due to their special conjugate structure, which are widely used as the diarylmethyl motif to synthesize natural products, functional materials, and organic intermediates in organic synthesis. Due to their special thermodynamic and chemical stability, para -quinone methides have emerged as a hot research topic. The construction of diarylmethyl substituted cyclic organic molecules through the intermolecular and intramolecular cyclization of p -QMs is particularly appealing. Thus, this review aims to systematically encapsulate the cyclization reactions and possible mechanisms of p -QMs that have been studied since 2017. A new visible-light-mediated radical cyclization of alkynoates with acyl chlorides is described for the one-pot construction of diverse 3-acylcoumarins with high efficiency and selectivity. This method is successful by sequential difunctionalization of an alkynes C C triple bond with the C Cl bonds of acyl chloride and aromatic C(sp 2 ) H bonds. The cyclization is proposed to simultaneously form two new carbon–carbon bonds, and involves radical acylation, 5-exo-trig cyclization, and ester migration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[Display omitted] A pyridine-promoted diazotization of P H bonds with aryl diazonium tetrafluoroborates is established. The reported method is simple and efficient for the synthesis of azo organophosphorus compounds with excellent yields, which avoids the adoption of complex and harsh reaction conditions and the addition of oxides, tolerating various kinds of functional groups.
