Little is known about men's use of online mental health (eMH) interventions and factors that promote their engagement or attrition. We aimed to synthesise the qualitative literature on men's preferences for, attitudes towards, and experiences of using eMH interventions for depression and anxiety, and develop recommendations from the findings. Systematic searches were conducted (Jan 2000-Oct 2020) in six databases; study quality was assessed using Qualsyst with a minimum total of 0.55 required for inclusion. Extracted data were synthesised using meta-aggregation. Eight studies met inclusion criteria and three synthesised findings were generated. (1) Facilitators of men's eMH use: finding apps and technology motivating and convenient, support and encouragement from important others, and interventions allowing men to take action, gain control over their mental health, and resulting in positive outcomes; (2) Barriers to men's eMH use: lack of free time, predicted or experienced lack of benefit from use, and technical difficulties; (3) What men want in eMH: personalised, tailored, relevant interventions that are bright and easy to use, with information presented in multiple formats, psychoeducation, exercises, self-monitoring, information on further resources, and the option of clinician involvement, without any repetitive questioning, boring tools, or negative feedback. All included studies were conducted in high income, 'Western' countries; most data related to experiences of using an existing eMH intervention within a trial, rather than in 'real world' settings where eMH acceptability is generally lower and experiences may differ. Practice, research, and policy recommendations are presented. • Finding technology motivating, convenient enables men's e-mental health (eMH) use. • Lack of free time, predicting little benefit from use hinder men's use of eMH. • Men want easy-to-use eMH programs that can adapt to their own situation and needs. • Some men prefer to use eMH with clinician support; others prefer independent use. • Men's voices should be centred in work to develop acceptable, effective eMH for men. Objective: To identify pattern of change in average positive affect (PA), negative affect (NA), and state anxiety (St ANX) across three biological end points of an IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedure and to examine whether the pattern varied across sociodemographic and biomedical subgroups. Design: Longitudinal follow-up study of PA, NA, and St ANX at three different time points: before start of study, before ovum pick-up (OPU), and before embryo transfer. Setting: Three infertility centers in northern India. Patient(s): Baseline data were obtained from a consecutive sample of 85 women. However, final analysis was done on data obtained from 74 women who reached the embryo transfer stage and completed the questionnaires at both OPU and embryo transfer. Intervention(s): The PA, NA, and St ANX scores. Main Outcome Measure(s): Change in PA, NA, and St ANX scores at three stages of the treatment: baseline (T0), before OPU (T1), before embryo transfer (T2). Result(s): The PA scores before OPU and embryo transfer were significantly lower than those at baseline. The mean NA and St ANX scores before OPU and embryo transfer were significantly higher than baseline scores. Furthermore, mean NA before embryo transfer was significantly higher than mean NA before OPU. The PA and St ANX scores showed statistically insignificance within cycle variations. Furthermore, the mean PA and St ANX for a subgroup of women who reported more than moderate level of burden were less variable. Conclusion(s): The OPU and embryo transfer stages are more stressful than the baseline stage for most women across various sociodemographic and biomedical subgroups. Induction of labour is one of the most frequently applied obstetrical interventions globally. Many studies have compared the use of balloon catheters with pharmacological agents. Although the safety of the balloon catheter is often mentioned, little has been written about the total spectrum of maternal and fetal morbidity associated with induction of labour using a balloon catheter. We evaluated the safety of labour induction with a transcervical balloon catheter by conducting a literature review with pooled risk assessments of the maternal, fetal and neonatal morbidity. We searched Medline, EMBASE and CINAHL as well as the Cochrane database using the Keywords 'induction of labour', 'cervical ripening', 'transcervical balloon', 'balloon catheter' and 'Foley balloon'. We did not use language or date restrictions. Randomized and quasi-randomized controlled trials as well as observational studies that contained original data on occurrence of maternal, fetal or neonatal morbidity during induction of labour with the balloon catheter were included. Studies were excluded if the balloon catheter was used concurrently with oxytocin and concurrently or consecutively with misoprostol, dinoprostone or extra-amniotic saline infusion. Study selection and quality assessment was performed by two authors independently using a standardized critical appraisal instrument. Outcomes were reported as weighted mean rates. We detected 84 articles reporting on 13,791 women. The overall risk of developing intrapartum maternal infection was 11.3% (912 of 8079 women), 3.3% (151 of 4538 women) for postpartum maternal infection and 4.6% (203 of 4460 women) for neonatal infection. Uterine hypercontractility occurred in 2.7% (148 of 5439) of the women. Uterine rupture after previous caesarean section occurred in 1.9% of women (26 of 1373), while other major maternal complications had an occurrence rate of <1%. The risk for developing minor maternal complications was <2%. The risk of developing a non-reassuring fetal heart rate was 10.8% (793 of 7336 women), 10.1% (507 of 5008 women) for fetal distress and 14.0% (460 of 3295 women) for meconium stained liquor. Neonatal death occurred in 0.29% (6 of 2058) of the deliveries and NICU admission in 7.2% (650 of 9065 deliveries). This review shows that labour induction with a balloon catheter is a safe intervention, with intrapartum maternal infection being the only reasonable risk above 10%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rationale Male participation in screening for bowel cancer is sub-optimal. Theory-based interventions provide a means of improving screening uptake. Objective To test the efficacy of modifying consumer invitation material in line with continuum and stage theories of health behaviour on screening participation. Methods N = 9216 Australian men aged 50–74 years were randomised to one of four trial arms in a 2 × 2 factorial design randomised controlled trial. Participants received either standard invitation material (control group), or combinations of modified advance-notification and invitation letters. A subsample completed baseline and endpoint behavioural surveys. Results Participants who received the modified advance notification letter were 12% more likely to screen than those who received the standard version ( RR = 1.12, χ 2 (1) = 10.38, p = 0.001). The modified invitation letter did not impact screening uptake ( RR = 0.97, χ 2 (1) = 0.63, p = 0.424). No significant changes in psychological variables due to the intervention were observed. Conclusion Modifications to advance notification letters in line with health behaviour theories significantly improves screening uptake in men. Abstract: A qualitative study was conducted in Australia to explore women''s preferences for inpatient or outpatient settings for cervical priming for induction of labour. The concept of therapeutic landscapes was used to explore the different aspects of the home and hospital that make them therapeutic to women. The therapeutic value of the home and hospital landscapes was defined by their ability to provide women with ‘comfort’ and ‘safety’, and women were found to draw on a range of contextual factors to negotiate between the comfort of home and the perceived safety of the hospital. The study provides important information for health professionals to enable them to enhance women''s wellbeing should they be offered the choice of inpatient or outpatient priming.
