The increasing global demand for electric vehicles is evidence of the general recognition among the public regarding issues tied to climate change, carbon emissions, and air pollution. China has experienced a rapid expansion in its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market over recent years, establishing itself as the largest such market globally. This research endeavors to comprehend how consumers' value systems contribute to their intent to purchase NEVs. The proposed model was assessed using the data collected from a Chinese sample. Employing a multi-faceted approach, this study uncovers the diverse ways in which consumers with varying value orientations evaluate NEVs and formulate intentions to support governmental initiatives. Furthermore, the study examines the interplay between consumers' value assessments, their inclination to endorse governmental efforts, and their intentions to purchase NEVs. The study's findings underscore the role of consumers' value orientation in shaping their perceptions of NEVs. • We present two new marketing strategies for suboptimal products: tasting and show. • We compare consumer responses to 6 marketing strategies for suboptimal products. • Multiple of those strategies increase purchase intentions for suboptimal products. • Naturalness communication and show experience positively affect product perceptions. • The effects of the strategies depend on consumers' value orientations. To reduce food waste, motivating consumers to purchase suboptimal (imperfect) products seems a promising strategy. Yet, two recent literature reviews show that it is challenging to motivate consumers to purchase suboptimal products. Moreover, the effects of the most promising marketing strategies thus far – pricing and communication strategies − have hardly been directly compared. Our research addresses these issues by 1) presenting two novel strategies that can increase purchase intentions for suboptimal products, and 2) comparing the effects of pricing strategies, communication strategies, and the two novel strategies. In a survey and an experiment, consumer responses to pricing (discounts or multi-item promotions), communication (concerning products' naturalness or sustainability), and experience strategies (providing tasting or a show) were compared, revealing varying effects on product perceptions and purchase intentions. Consumers' value orientations influenced consumer responses to marketing strategies. These findings provide valuable suggestions for future research on minimizing suboptimal food waste. Markets and industries are currently characterized by high dynamics, leading to diverse and volatile customer requirements. This complex market environment fosters the appearance of innovations with high novelty and uncertainty. As a result, the probability of disruptive innovations (DI) increases, which have the potential to change markets in the long-term and represent an existential threat especially to established companies. Against this background, the question arises if companies can proactively create DI. For this reason, innovation portfolio management (IPM) aims to identify the most promising new product ideas. However, the identification of DI is challenging because of their characteristics such as low comparability with existing products and uncertain customer reactions. For this reason, the literature highlights that no approaches exist that integrate and consider DI in IPM. This paper introduces a practical concept methodology to implement DI in IPM that can be placed in the early phase of product development, focusing on the potential evaluation of diverse product ideas. The concept provides a five-step approach, which can be roughly divided into the anticipation of the product idea's disruptive potential and the holistic evaluation of the product ideas. Value orientations towards wildlife affect the way people perceive nature and their connection with animals. In particular, the social psychological literature within the environmental field suggests that there are two main orientations of people towards wildlife: mutualism and domination. This body of literature has shown how wildlife value orientations can serve as predictors of attitudes and behaviours towards wildlife and form the foundation of human-wildlife conflicts. A common approach in the non-market valuation literature is to include information on attitudes and values in the deterministic part of the utility function, leading to problems of endogeneity bias. To avoid this, analysts have recently shifted their attention to approaches based on latent variables. This paper presents an application of a latent variable and latent class model, to understand how latent orientations influence choices, in a case study in the Italian Alps. The intuition is that different underlying individual value orientation affects preferences and the level of willingness to pay and should be therefore considered in choice models. The latent variable is used to explain class membership of respondents. Results indicate that the latent variable has a significant effect in class allocation and that the hybrid model performs better than a simple two class model. Results provide guidance on the social acceptability of management interventions and can support public decision-makers in the modulation of wildlife management policies for balancing the needs of conservation and outdoor recreation, explicitly considering existing human-wildlife conflicts. Motivational interference is a prevalent phenomenon among students at different levels. In this study, we examined university students' motivational interference after making a decision in school-digital leisure conflict and its relationships with two antecedents, i.e., digital nativity and value orientation. Participants were Taiwanese university students ( N = 1201) who responded to a questionnaire. The data showed support for a positive path between digital nativity and motivational interference after a school decision, but not for the path between digital nativity and motivational interference after a leisure decision. In addition, achievement value orientation showed a negative effect on motivational interference after a school decision and a positive effect on motivational interference after a leisure decision. In contrast, well-being value orientation had a positive effect on motivational interference after a school decision but no significant effect on motivational interference after a leisure decision. Purpose: In the current healthcare context, large health care organizations may increasingly emphasize profit, biomedicine, efficiency, and customer service in the delivery of care. This orientation toward nursing work by large organizations may be perceived by nurses as incompatible with professional caring. Methods: Ordinary Least Squares regression was used to explore the impact of person-organization fit (i.e., value congruence between self and employing organization) on nurses' general job satisfaction and quality of patient care (n = 753). Results: Nurses' perceived person-organization fit is a significant predictor of general job satisfaction and quality of patient care. How conservation messages are framed will impact the success of our efforts to engage people in conservation action. This is highly relevant in the private land conservation (PLC) sector given the low participation rates of landholders. Using a case study of PLC schemes targeted at Australian landholders, we present the first systematic analysis of communication strategies used by organisations and government departments delivering those schemes to engage the public. We develop a novel approach for analysing the framing of conservation messages that codes the stated benefits of schemes according to value orientation. We categorised the benefits as flowing to either the landholder, to society, or to the environment, corresponding to the egoistic, altruistic and biospheric value orientations that have been shown to influence human behaviour. We find that messages are biased towards environmental benefits. Surprisingly, this is the case even for market-based schemes that have the explicit objective of appealing to production-focussed landholders and those who are not already involved in conservation. The risk is that PLC schemes framed in this way will fail to engage more egoistically oriented landholders and are only likely to appeal to those likely to already be conservation-minded. By understanding the frame in which PLC benefits are communicated, we can begin to understand the types of people who may be engaged by these messages, and who may not be. Results suggest that the framing of the communications for many schemes could be broadened to appeal to a more diverse group (and thus ultimately to a larger group) of landholders. This study examined two value orientations (i.e., a doing orientation, or the tendency to commit to work ethic and goals, and a mastery orientation, or the tendency to seek control over outside forces) as mediators in the relationship between core self-evaluation and career decision self-efficacy. Data were collected from 802 Chinese university students and analyzed employing structural equation modeling. Results showed that both doing and mastery orientations fully mediated the relationship between core self-evaluation and career decision self-efficacy. Mastery orientation exhibited a stronger mediating effect on this relationship than did doing orientation. These findings reveal some important mechanisms underlying the role of core self-evaluation in career decision-making processes and offer useful implications for researchers and practitioners. Conventional road transport has negative impact on the environment. Stimulating eco-driving through feedback to the driver about his/her energy conservation performance has the potential to reduce CO 2 emissions and promote fuel cost savings. Not all drivers respond well to the same type of feedback. Research has shown that different drivers are attracted to different types of information and feedback. The goal of this paper is to explore which different driver segments with specific psychographic characteristics can be distinguished, how these characteristics can be used in the development of an ecodriving support system and whether tailoring eco-driving feedback technology to these different driver segments will lead to increased acceptance and thus effectiveness of the eco feedback technology. The driver segments are based on the value orientation theory and learning orientation theory. Different possibilities for feedback were tested in an exploratory study in a driving simulator. An explorative study was selected since the choice of the display (how and when the information is presented) may have a strong impact on the results. This makes testing of the selected driver segments very difficult. The results of the study nevertheless suggest that adapting the display to a driver segment showed an increase in acceptance in certain cases. The results showed small differences for ratings on acceptation, ease of use, favouritism and a lower general rating between matched (e.g., learning display with learning oriented drivers) and mismatched displays (e.g., learning display with performance oriented drivers). Using a display that gives historical feedback and incorporates learning elements suggested a non-verifiable increase in acceptance for learning oriented drivers. However historical feedback and learning elements may be less effective for performance oriented drivers, who may need comparative feedback and game elements to improve energy conserving driving behaviour. Abstract: It was hypothesized that students'' value orientations are connected to their experience of motivational interference in a conflict between a school- and a leisure-related activity as well as to school marks as indicators of learning outcomes. In a self-report study with Italian adolescents (N =433; M =14.5 years) using a school-leisure conflict scenario, first, the relations between the 10 values introduced by Schwartz and the Inglehart-based Achievement and Well-being value orientations were investigated. Correlations and multidimensional scaling analysis showed overlaps as well as differences between the two sets of value variables. Regression analyses revealed that the Schwartz values were significantly related to the experience of motivational interference during studying and during leisure as well as to school marks. The inclusion of Achievement and Well-being value orientations explained additional variance of the three dependent variables. Abstract: Off-task behavior in the classroom was conceptualized as a manifestation of students pursuing goals they bring into the classroom aside from achievement goals. Regulation during on-task and off-task behavior in action conflict scenarios was elaborated on using the constructs motivational interference and flow. It was argued that achievement and well-being values that students hold can be determinants as well as outcomes of these conflict experiences. Data from 697 students (mean age 13.43) was collected at two time points within one school year. Results supported a reciprocal model in which value orientations (t1) lead to conflict variables (t2) as well as conflict variables (t1) to value orientations (t2). [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: In this research, the basis for social acceptability judgements of clearfell harvesting in people''s values and beliefs was explored. During an initial qualitative field study the value orientations, valued objects and beliefs about consequences of 18 participants were identified. A hypothesis was then developed drawing on two cognitive hierarchy theories: the Theory of Reasoned Action and Value Belief Norm Theory. It was predicted, that in judging clearfelling people would draw on value orientations toward the natural environment. These would lead them to value objects in the forest and to develop beliefs about the consequences of harvesting for those objects, which would in turn lead to acceptability judgements. In a second study approximately 560 Tasmanians were shown images of a clearfell, burn and sow management system and asked to judge its acceptability. On average, industry-affiliated participants rated clearfelling much more acceptable than did non-affiliated and conservation-affiliated participants. Participants also responded to questions that measured the four levels on the cognitive hierarchy. Structural equation modelling was used to test whether these data were consistent with the cognitive hierarchy model. There was no basis to reject the model. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The relations between students'' value orientations and experiences of motivational interference during studying following conflicts between learning and leisure activities were investigated in a self-report study. Overall, 1075 adolescents, mostly from Catholic schools, in Bosnia–Herzegovina (n =203), India (n =200), Paraguay (n =96), Spain (n =442), and the US (n =134), participated. The samples varied substantially in terms of modern and postmodern value orientations, experience of motivational interference during studying, and time invested in studying. By controlling for age, gender, and economic capital, postmodern value orientation was positively related to conflict frequency and experience of motivational interference during learning, and negatively related to time investment. For modern value orientation, the relations were almost reversed. Despite the considerable differences between the sample means, the study revealed some consistency in the relations between the variables across the samples, which indicates that most of the relations can be generalized. In a self-report study, students (N=704, mean age: 13.5 years) were confronted with two scenarios, depicting situations of motivational conflict. They were asked to choose between a school and a leisure activity. A model was tested with value orientations as determinants and successful self-regulation as the consequence of the decision reached after a motivational conflict. The results showed that value orientations were related to the choice of activities in motivational conflict. Value orientations and decisions also predicted successful self-regulation in the school-related activity. Furthermore, value orientations and self-regulation were positively related to time invested in learning. Abstract: To study societal perception of animal welfare in The Netherlands and to search for intervention possibilities to influence this perception, 1074 randomly selected Dutch respondents completed a questionnaire on animal welfare. We analysed 15 propositions (4-point Likert scale) and through factor analysis we defined four factors of societal perception of animal welfare: Human–Animal Hierarchy (HAH), Use of animals for Human Consumption (HC), Life Quality of farm animals (LQ), and Farmers'' Image (FI). On average, Dutch society perceived farm animal welfare as slightly positive. We distinguished perception into the elements: Values, Convictions, Emotional Experiences (with animals and farms) and Factual Knowledge. Factors HAH and HC are considered as convictions in Dutch society. LQ is the only element significantly influenced by values. Pet owners and people without farm experiences perceived FI and LQ as being less positive than people without a pet or with farm experiences. These emotional experiences with farms, farm animals and/or pets are important elements of perception. FI is the only element influenced through factual knowledge. Hence, it is important that people experience and learn what farming entails and how farm animals live, e.g. through farm visits. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• The evolution and development of juvenile delinquency correction in China has experienced several phases. • Value orientation refers to people's ethical codes, moral principles, value judgements, personalities, and beliefs when dealing with various contradictions, conflicts, and relations. • The traditional Chinese society highly values social standards, and individuals are regarded as an important part of society. • Since modern times, new methods for the treatment and correction of juvenile delinquency have been establishing in an attempt to reverse the traditional policy of punishment as the main response to juvenile delinquency. There have been several phases in the evolution and development of juvenile delinquency correction in China, including preparation and initiation phase, learning and transformation phase, construction and exploration phase, then development and promotion phase. The value orientation of juvenile delinquency correction in China has also changed from "punishment and class domination" to the "transformation of criminals and social control" and then to the "correction and comprehensive management of social security". Previous studies on the value orientation of juvenile delinquency correction have largely focused on contemporary practices and strategies in China, and there are still very few studies regarding the evolution and development of such an orientation. In this regard, this paper examines the historical evolution of the value orientation of juvenile delinquency correction in China. First, the paper describes the characteristics of the different historical phases; then, it thematically and chronologically examines the major turning points in these historical processes using a spatio-temporal linear structure. This study adopts a qualitative methodology with a range of research methods, such as historical, comparative, and inductive methods. The findings of this study not only enrich the research field but also shine new light on the study of the value orientation of juvenile delinquency correction from the lens of history. Food stores have begun to tackle food waste at the point of sale. They do so by selling 'suboptimal' food before it is wasted, typically with a price reduction. However, efficiency of this food waste avoidance action can be improved by knowing for which product category, which store type, which accompanying communication, and which consumer characteristics this action works best. This study uses an experimental online survey conducted in five North western European countries to investigate the effect of communication appealing to either self- or others-centred motives in either supermarkets or farmers' markets, for packaged and for fresh food. It is found that both messages – communicating budget saving or an emotional appeal - are effective in increasing choice likelihood. Store type affects choice likelihood of suboptimal packaged, while others-centred values and trust in the store affects choice likelihood for suboptimal fresh food. Communication improves quality perception of suboptimal fresh food. Findings imply that fresh suboptimal foods lend themselves more to be promoted with others-centred messages, or to be targeted at consumers with others-centred values. Sales of suboptimal food in the store should be accompanied by communication, and such efforts to tackle food waste in the store should focus on fresh food in particular. • Selling suboptimal food in store can reduce food waste at the retailer. • Experimental survey explored the role of communication, store type, and category. • Communication increases likelihood of choice for suboptimal food. • Store type plays a role for packaged, but others-centred values and trust for fresh. • Communication efforts should focus on promoting sales of fresh suboptimal food.
