This study aimed to examine the prevalence of Ichthyophthirius multifiliis in fish inhabiting natural water bodies in the Lhasa and Nagqu regions of Tibet in September 2020 and August 2021. The results showed that Schizopygopsis selincuoensis had the highest prevalence of I. multifiliis at 33.73% (56/166), followed by Triplophysa tibetana at 30.00% (6/20), Triplophysa brevicauda at 27.91% (12/43) and Schizopygopsis thermalis at 23.66% (31/131). No infection with I. multifiliis was observed in exotic fish species. In addition, the prevalence of I. multifiliis in Boqu Zangbo (river), Selincuo Lake and Cuona Lake in the Nagqu region was found to be significantly higher than that in Lalu Wetland and Chabalang Wetland in the Lhasa region (P < 0.05). The study revealed a significantly lower prevalence in Lhasa River than in Cuona Lake (P < 0.05). Notably, our findings revealed instances of I. multifiliis infections even in saline water bodies, thereby emphasizing the potential threat that this parasite poses to the preservation of indigenous fish resources in Tibet. Consequently, immediate and effective countermeasures are imperative. This study represents the first systematic investigation of I. multifiliis infection in natural water bodies in Tibet. The morphological revisions of Macrocytopharynxa pyriformis (Nie, 1932) Li et al., 2002; collected from the rectum of Fejervarya limnocharis (= Rana limnocharis ), are presented in this paper: (1) two surfaces of the organism are not identical – left side narrower and convex, right broader and flat or slightly concave; (2) infundibulum is large and well-developed with no “fold” or “plicature” present in the middle or posterior portion; (3) micronucleus is tiny and ovoid shaped and always embedded in the middle concavity of macronucleus, which can be well revealed by ammoniacal silver staining. Our phylogenetic analysis based on SSU-rDNA showed that M. pyriformis fell into the Nyctotheroides clade, within which four definite Nyctotheroides species were involved – N. cordiformis , N. deslierresae , N. parvus and N. hubeiensis . In combination with their morphological features, we discussed the reliability of using karyophore organelles or kinetal suture patterns as the generic taxonomic criteria. Besides, we considered that the genus Macrocytopharynxa is a junior synonym of Nyctotheroides and we transfer its type species to Nyctotheroides as Nyctotheroides pyriformis n. comb. The phylogenetic pattern of the family Nyctotheridae was also indicated in our work, but it will be necessary to analyze more species from fishes and reptiles before coming to a sound conclusion. • We found identical mitochondrial gene orders (GO) in distant lineages of the Neodermata clade. • This 'common GO' was identified as the ancestral GO for all Neodermata (and most internal nodes). • The subclass Polyopisthocotylea is the earliest neodermatan branch (inferred by mitogenomes and GO). • Highly rearranged GOs of some of the Monogenea and Trematoda corroborate the saltatory nature of GO evolution. • Conserved GOs tend to produce artefactual phylogenetic relationships. Recent mitogenomic studies have exposed a gene order (GO) shared by two classes, four orders and 31 species ('common GO') within the flatworm subphylum Neodermata. There are two possible hypotheses for this phenomenon: convergent evolution (homoplasy) or shared ancestry (plesiomorphy). To test those, we conducted a meta-analysis on all available mitogenomes to infer the evolutionary history of GO in Neodermata. To improve the resolution, we added a newly sequenced mitogenome that exhibited the common GO, Euryhaliotrema johni (Ancyrocephalinae), to the dataset. Phylogenetic analyses conducted on two datasets (nucleotides of all 36 genes and amino acid sequences of 12 protein coding genes) and four algorithms (MrBayes, RAxML, IQ-TREE and PhyloBayes) produced topology instability towards the tips, so ancestral GO reconstructions were conducted using TreeREx and MLGO programs using all eight obtained topologies, plus three unique topologies from previous studies. The results consistently supported the second hypothesis, resolving the common GO as a plesiomorphic ancestral GO for Neodermata, Cestoda, Monopisthocotylea, Cestoda + Trematoda and Cestoda + Trematoda + Monopisthocotylea. This allowed us to trace the evolutionary GO scenarios from each common ancestor to its descendants amongst the Monogenea and Cestoda classes, and propose that the common GO was most likely retained throughout all of the common ancestors, leading to the extant species possessing the common GO. Neodermatan phylogeny inferred from GOs was largely incongruent with all 11 topologies described above, but it did support the mitogenomic dataset in resolving Polyopisthocotylea as the earliest neodermatan branch. Although highly derived GOs might be of some use in resolving isolated taxonomic and phylogenetic uncertainties, we conclude that, due to the discontinuous nature of their evolution, they tend to produce artefactual phylogenetic relationships, which makes them unsuitable for phylogenetic reconstruction in Neodermata. Wider and denser sampling of neodermatan mitogenomic sequences will be needed to infer the evolutionary pathways leading to the observed diversity of GOs with confidence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The properties of the self-similar parabolic pulses interaction in a dispersion-decreasing optical fiber with normal group-velocity dispersion are firstly investigated in our paper. We find that two parabolic pulses separated by a time-delay create oscillation with a sinusoidal fit at the beginning of their overlap, and then further evolve into a train of asymptotic dark solitons. Additionally, outside the overlap regime, the evolution is equal to a single pulse’ propagating behavior. The chirp after interaction in the parabolic pulses still allows for efficient and high-quality pulse compression. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The morphology of two species of bucephalids (Bucephalidae; Digenea; Trematoda), which since 1999 has caused a fish disease at the Uji River, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, is described. Parabucephalopsis parasiluri Wang, 1985 was first recorded in the Uji River in 2000, and Prosorhynchoides ozakii (Nagaty, 1937) in 2005. The definitive host of both species is the Lake Biwa catfish (Silurus biwaensis), and the second intermediate hosts include many fish species from several families. P. parasiluri is an introduced parasite that invaded with its first intermediate host, golden mussels (Limnoperna fortunei), from the Asian continent. P. ozakii may also be an introduced species, although its first intermediate host has not been identified. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• A new species of endoparasitic trichodinid was first described. • The morphological characteristics and electron microscope images were provided. • The SSU rDNA data of Trichodina lishuiensis were analyzed. • The transmission route of Trichodina may takes place during the amplexus. Endoparasitic trichodinids are rather rare ciliates. In this study we describe a new species named Trichodina lishuiensis from the bladder of Odorrana schmackeri collected in Zhejiang, China, with the prevalence of 20% (9/45). We identified T. lishuiensis as a new species by morphological comparison and molecular analysis. The ciliates were observed using the dry-silver and protargol staining methods, as well as SEM (scanning electron microscopy). Trichodina lishuiensis is a small species (cell diameter 31.8-43.9 μm), with incompact denticles connection, medium-wide blades and thick rays. We also sequenced a 1712 bp-long fragment of the small subunit ribosomal RNA gene (SSU rRNA). Phylogenetic analyses showed that the new species clustered with Trichodina unionis. The route of transmission of Trichodina species in the urinary bladder remains a mystery. We hypothesize that the transmisison takes place during the amplexus, with eggs and sperm discharged from the cloaca, and that trichodinids 'accompany' the amphibian through its whole life cycle, but further studies are needed to test this hypothesis.
