- Abstract
Abstract The super antibiotic resistance genes (SARGs) demonstrate more severe threats than other antibiotic resistance genes while have not received enough attention in the environment. The study explored the prevalence and the antibiotic tolerance profiles of two typical SARGs, MCR -1 and NDM -1, and their hosting bacteria in the downstream of the Yangtze River and the nearby wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and drinking water treatment plant (DWTP). Results indicated that MCR -1 and NDM -1 were prevalent in the influent and biological units of the WWTP. Their hosting bacteria were effectively removed, but 2.49 × 108 copies/L MCR -1 and 7.00 × 106 copies/L NDM -1 were still persistent in the effluent. In the Yangtze River, MCR -1 and NDM -1 were detected with higher abundance and antibiotic tolerance than the WWTP effluent and were significantly affected by nearby water contamination and human activities. In the DWTP, MCR -1 and NDM -1 were detected with average values 5.56 × 107 copies/L and 2.14 × 105 copies/L in the influent. Their hosting bacteria were undetectable in the effluent, but the two SARGs were still persistent with 1.39 × 107 copies/L and 6.29 × 104 copies/L, and were greatly enriched in the sludge. Molecular ecological networks demonstrated wide hosting relationships between MCR -1/ NDM -1 and bacteria community in the DWTP. Redundancy analysis found that MCR -1 positively correlated with COD and NH 3 -N, while negatively correlated with turbidity. Additionally, MCR -1 hosting bacteria positively correlated with NO 3 −-N and negatively correlated with COD and NH 3 -N. NDM -1 positively correlated with turbidity and NDM -1 hosting bacteria positively correlated with COD and NO 2 −-N. The study demonstrated that the WWTP could not effectively remove SARGs with high amount of them being discharged into the Yangtze River. Then they were transported into the DWTP and the persistent SARGs in the effluent would probably be transferred into human, thus imposing great threats on public health. Graphical abstract Unlabelled Image Highlights • MCR-1 and NDM-1 are prevalent in the WWTP, DWTP and the Yangtze River samples. • WWTP and DWTP treatment processes cannot effectively remove MCR-1 and NDM-1. • Drinking water is a direct source of SARGs pollution threating public health. • The two SARGs abundance and tolerance are affected greatly by human activities. • Hosting relationships drive the correlation between ARGs and influencing factors. - Abstract
The purpose of this case is to investigate a case of obturator hernia leading to right thigh abscess on 68-year-old woman of China. A 68-year-old Chinese woman was referred to China-Japan Friendship Hospital of Jilin University with abdominal pain, bloating, exhaust, stop defecation in 2011. She had chronic bronchitis, emphysema with a history of 20 years. This patient did not have any bad habits, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, etc. In this surgery, CT was used to diagnose the basic condition of the patient. Surgery was used for treatment of patients with diseases. In addition, this operation was performed by the china-Japan Friendship Hospital of Jilin University. The results of this case showed that the cervix of rectal right anterior wall can hit a funicular neoplasm, toughening, smooth, with tenderness, considering for the external pressure bowel loops. The inside of the right thigh showed obvious swelling, skin slightly bruising, and tenderness. Chest radiographs showed that patients had emphysema, multiple planes of fluid and air in the abdomen. Patients had been successfully operated, but she died because of severe infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

METAL wastes , *ANAEROBIC digestion , *FOOD waste , *CATIONS , *FATTY acids , *METHANE - Abstract
Anaerobic digestion (AD) is promising on food waste (FW) disposal and bioenergy production, during which long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) inhibition is usually existing. In this study, metal cations (i.e., Ca2+ and Mg2+) were used to enhance the AD performance of FW and explore the mechanisms behind. Results showed that the Ca2+ and Mg2+ performed concentration-depended effects on the AD of FW: promotion at low concentration while inhibition at high concentration. The optimal concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+ for AD of FW were 100 and 5 mg/L, respectively, which obtained 29.76% and 18.00% higher methane yield than that of control respectively. Moreover, the volatile fatty acids (VFAs) yield, the degradation of long chain fatty acids, the soluble carbohydrates and protein, some enzymes related to the β-oxidation of LCFAs were also improved by Ca2+ and Mg2+ addition. Besides, Ca2+ addition mainly acted in the sustained release of LCFAs by formation of reversible precipitates with LCFAs. The microbial structure was also reshaped by Ca2+ and Mg2+ addition, some functional bacteria that could degrade carbohydrates, protein, and LCFAs were enriched. Overall, metal cations addition could be a promising approach for improving the performance of AD systems for lipids-rich waste such as FW. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HYDROGEN sulfide , *FLUORESCENT probes , *POLLUTANTS , *HYPOTENSION , *STOKES shift , *SULFUR dioxide - Abstract
Similar to nitric oxide (NO) molecule, carbon monoxide (CO) molecule and hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) molecule, sulfur dioxide (SO 2) is also considered to be another important endogenous signaling molecule. SO 2 derivatives are widely used as food antioxidants and antimicrobial agents. However, SO 2 is also a toxic environmental pollutant and intake of elevated levels of sulfites can lead to diarrhea, low blood pressure and allergic and asthmatic reactions in susceptible people. The specific physiological effects and transformation processes of SO 2 and its derivatives are not well understood due to the limitations of existing detection methods. Therefore, it is an urgent need to develop highly sensitive, high-resolution, real-time in situ assays. Herein, we specifically designed a ratiometric near-infrared fluorescent probe CQT for detecting SO 2 derivatives. After the reaction of CQT with HSO 3 −/SO 3 2−, a gradual decrease in red fluorescence at 662 nm accompanied by an enhanced blue fluorescence at 489 nm, reaching a detection range of 2.8–80 μM. In addition, we found that CQT had high energy transfer efficiency, large Stokes shift and low detection limit, which meant that CQT could sensitively monitor small changes of SO 2 concentration in cells and accurately target lysosomes. [Display omitted] • A novel targeting lysosome NIR fluorescent probe CQT was developed. • CQT achieved the dual colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescent strategy. • CQT had a large Stokes shift of 251 nm, and 98% energy transfer efficiency. • CQT showed high sensitivity and selectivity toward SO 2 derivatives. • CQT achieved the detection of exogenous and endogenous SO 2 derivatives in cells. Abstract: In this paper, the TiO2 alloyed layer was successfully formed on pure titanium surface using the double glow plasma surface alloying technology. The microstructure and phase composition of the alloyed layer were analyzed by optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The micro-hardness of the alloyed layer was investigated by nano-indentation test. The surface roughness was decreased after the treatment. Measuring the anodic polarization curves in Tyrode’s solution, the corrosion rates of the untreated and treated samples were compared. The results indicated that the uniform dense TiO2 alloyed layer was obtained on the pure titanium surface. As compared with pure titanium, the free corrosion potential of TiO2 alloyed layer increased and the free corrosion current density decreased, which corresponded to a decreased corrosion rate. It led to the improvement of corrosion resistance of the pure titanium surface. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
