Abstract A sensitive electrochemical aptasensor was designed based on gold modified graphene nanocomposite with different morphologies for the detection of lead ion (Pb2+). Specifically, a sulfydryl-labeled substrate strand (Apt1) and a sulfydryl-labeled catalytic strand (Apt2) were devised in fabricating the electrochemical aptasensor. Gold modified porous reduced graphene oxide (Au@p-rGO) was synthesized and applied as support for immobilizing the Apt1. And gold modified graphene oxide (Au NPs@GO) was employed as signal probe and connected with Apt2 to realize the immobilization of it on the electrode by means of the principle of complementary base pairing. The current signal can be obtained by recording the electrocatalytic conditions toward H 2 O 2. The Pb2+-dependent DNAzyme could play a role when Pb2+ existed. With the increase of the concentration of Pb2+, the current response revealed a diminishing signal, thus realizing the sensitive detection of Pb2+. Under the optimal conditions, the fabricated electrochemical aptasensor exhibited a linear response toward Pb2+ ranging from 5 pmol/L to 1 μmol/L, together with a low limit of detection of 1.67 pmol/L. Moreover, the prepared aptasensor displayed outstanding selectivity, acceptable stability and superior reproducibility for detecting Pb2+. Abstract

In this study, a sandwich-type photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor was designed for ultrasensitive detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) by using Cu doped TiO 2 compositing with carbon nitride (Cu:TiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4). The strategy of signal enhancement was based on Cu:TiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 as photosensitizer and the employed alkaline phosphatase (ALP) could catalyze ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AAP) to be ascorbic acid (AA) as electron donor. Thanks to the functionalized Cu:TiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 nanocomposites, large degree enhancement of photocurrent response could be obtained under illumination of 430 nm wavelength. Furthermore, the characterization and mechanism of the detection procedure were discussed in depth. This exquisite sandwich protocol was successfully constructed for CEA detection based on the photocurrent signals corresponding to the concentration of in situ generated electron donor, which was directly proportional to the amount of CEA. The current response of the fabricated PEC immunosensor was linear with CEA in the range of 0.005–1000 ng mL−1, together with low detection limit of 1 pg mL−1 (S/N = 3). And high selectivity, reproducibility and stability were acquired. In addition, the proposed method may find promising applications in detecting other tumor markers in clinical analysis. Abstract

Abstract With the frequently happened oil spill accidents and increasing discharge of industrial oily wastewater, oil/water separation has become a global challenge for protecting ecological environments. In this research, a superhydrophobic and superoleophilic copper mesh is prepared by a simple one-step immersion approach. A hydrophobic original copper mesh (OCM) turns into a superhydrophobic copper mesh (SHCM) after being immersed in stearic acid ethanol solution for 24 h. The as-fabricated SHCM demonstrates a separation efficiency of over 97% for different oil/water mixtures, and an oil flux of >90 kL·h−1·m−2. Moreover, the SHCM exhibits excellent stability under different working conditions. The SHCM obtained by such simple, scalable, and low cost one-step approach, holds great promise for future applications in oil/water separation. Abstract

In this work, an ultrasensitive electrochemical immunosensor was developed for detecting carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) based on Ag/MoS 2 @Fe 3 O 4 and an analogous enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. The fabrication process was conducted by using 96-well microplate and the detection process was executed on magnetic glassy carbon electrode (MGCE), which was named analogous ELISA method. The technique of total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) was firstly employed to verify the feasibility of the proposed method. A sandwich-type strategy was applied for the fabrication of the immunosensor and Ag/MoS 2 @Fe 3 O 4 was used as label. Simultaneously, Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were applied for modifying the MGCE as sensing platform due to its excellent electroconductivity. Ag/MoS 2 @Fe 3 O 4 could firmly attached on the surface of MGCE thanks to the magnetic property of Fe 3 O 4 . Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was applied for the detection of CEA and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) confirmed the successful fabrication of the immunosensor. Under optimal experimental conditions, a linear response was achieved in the range of 0.0001–20 ng/mL with a low detection limit of 0.03 pg/mL. Furthermore, the proposed immunosensor exhibited good stability, excellent selectivity and fine reproducibility. 47. Construction of self-powered cytosensing device based on ZnO nanodisks@g-C3N4 quantum dots and application in the detection of CCRF-CEM cells.

Abstract

We herein report a self-powered and renewable cytosensing device based on ZnO nanodisks(NDs)@g-C 3 N 4 quantum dots. The device features enhanced photoelectrochemical (PEC) activity compared to ZnO NDs or g-C 3 N 4 QDs alone. The enhanced PEC ability is attributed to the synergistic effect of the high visible light sensitivity of g-C 3 N 4 QDs and the staggered band alignment heterojunction structure with suitable band offset, which affords higher photoelectron transfer and separation efficiency. In addition, the hybridization of g-C 3 N 4 QDs further accelerates interfacial electron transfer and blocks recombination between electron donors and photogenerated holes. The device was applied to the detection of CCRF-CEM cells. By conjugation to Sgc8c aptamer, which preferentially interacts with membrane-bound PTK7 on CCRF-CEM membranes, capture of target CCRF-CEM cells resulted in a decrease in apparent power output, which was then exploited for the ultrasensitive detection of the target cells. This decrease in power output can be recovered by simply increasing the temperature to release the cells, thus recycling the cytosensing performance. The device displayed a linear relationship between the change of power output and the logarithm of the cell concentration from 20 to 20,000 cell/mL (R 2 = 0.9837) and a detection limit down to 20 cell/mL, as well as excellent selectivity and reproducibility. Abstract

Detection of tissue polypeptide antigen (TPA) in human serum plays an important role in monitoring the occurrence of cancers. In this work, a sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor based on a novel dual signal amplification strategy was employed for quantitative detection of TPA. Multifunctional graphene nanocomposites (Au@MGN) were designed as labels to achieve a high sensitivity and low limit of detection (LOD), which dominated the dual signal amplification strategy. On one hand, introduction of graphene could accelerate the electron transfer capability of magnetic graphene nanocomposites (MGN) than single ferriferrous oxide nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 NPs). On the other hand, introduction of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) could build a synergetic effect between Fe 3 O 4 NPs and Au NPs, which resulted in the increasing of electrocatalytic properties of Au@MGN. In short, due to the excellent electrochemical property of Au@MGN, high electrocatalytic current responses toward the reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) were achieved. Under optimum conditions, the proposed sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor exhibited a wide linear range from 10 −5 ng/mL to 10 2 ng/mL with a low LOD of 7.5 fg/mL for TPA. The designed immunosensor displayed an excellent analytical performance with good reproducibility, high selectivity and stability, indicating potential application promising in clinical monitoring of tumor markers. Abstract

We consider the convex hull of the even permutations on a set of n elements. We define a class of valid inequalities and prove that they induce a large class of distinct facets of the polytope. Using the inequalities, we characterize the polytope for n=4, and we confirm a conjecture of Brualdi and Liu that, unlike the convex hull of all permutations, this polytope cannot be described as the solution set of polynomially many linear inequalities. Abstract

• Firstly report of Bi/BiOBr microspheres with dominant exposed (0 0 1) facets. • Superior performance of Bi/BiOBr-001-m over other BiOBr catalysts. • Synergistic effect of crystal structures engineering and doped Bi element. • Sensitization effect of adsorbed RhB for bettering photocatalyst property. A facile one-step solvothermal process was used to synthesize Bi-doped BiOBr microspheres with mainly the (0 0 1) crystal facet exposed (Bi/BiOBr-001-m), which exhibited enhanced photocatalytic performance. The photocatalytic performance and stability of the obtained Bi/BiOBr-001-m photocatalyst for Cr(VI) photoreduction removal and rhodamine B (RhB) photooxidation degradation were significantly better than those of pure BiOBr and Bi-doped BiOBr microspheres. The enhanced performance is ascribed to the retarding effect of photoinduced electron–hole recombination caused by Bi doping and the predominant (0 0 1) crystal plane composite structure. The photocatalytic performance could be further boosted by the adsorbed RhB owing to the dye sensitization effect. This work provides a reference for effectively improving the photocatalytic performance by combining crystal facet engineering and element doping. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
