Photocatalysis-self-Fenton system, integrating photocatalysis with Fenton technology, emerge as promising approaches for environmental remediation. In this study, we introduced K, Na doped g-C 3 N 4 /FeOCl (DCN/FeOCl) catalyst, where amino groups on the DCN surface interacted with unsaturated Fe on FeOCl, forming Fe–N bonds and a Z-scheme heterojunction. The resulting DCN/FeOCl demonstrated efficient H 2 O 2 production and rapid tetracycline (TC) degradation under visible light. The Z-scheme heterojunction and nitrogen vacancy enhanced electron-hole pair separation and O 2 adsorption. Additionally, we proposed a mechanism for dual-channel photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production. This work presents a novel strategy for in-situ H 2 O 2 production and activation, facilitating water decontamination. Bimetallic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with iron and another transition metal in the inorganic nodes, as newly developed photo-Fenton catalysts, have gained an ample attention because of the synergistic effect and enhanced properties compared to the monometallic counterparts. However, the photo-Fenton application of bimetallic MOFs still faces the obstacle of unsatisfactory photogenerated electrons transfer due to the fast recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. In this work, perylene diimide (PDI) was modified upon bimetallic NH 2 -MIL-88B(Fe, Mn) (FM88B) via the ammonolysis process to construct PDI/FM88B heterojunction structure. The constructed heterostructure mediated the directional transfer of photogenerated electrons from PDI (electron donor) to FM88 (electron acceptor). The built-in electric field (BIEF) between PDI and FM88B promoted the separation and directional transfer of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The interfacial amide bond as the high-speed electronic transmission channel reduced the transfer distance and energy barrier of photogenerated electrons from PDI to FM88B, accelerating the photogenerated electrons delivery. As a result, both Fe(III)/Fe(II) and Mn(III)/Mn(II) redox couples were continuously and rapidly cycled, ultimately boosting the performance of FM88B for H 2 O 2 activation. Compared with FM88B, the optimal 6%PDI/FM88B exhibited excellent degradation performance against tetracycline (TC) (degradation efficiency and apparent rate constant, as 89% and 0.067 min−1) and notable synergy between photocatalysis and Fenton-like process (synergistic factor of 77.61%). DFT calculation and HPLC-MS analysis were used to verify the possible degradation pathways of TC. Meanwhile, the corresponding toxicity changes during TC degradation were studied in detail. The severe pollution and scarcity of clean water occurred worldwide. The photocatalysis on semiconductors is highly expected in decontamination or purification of water, although the performance of current semiconductors is extremely restricted by the low efficiency in utilization of sustainable solar energy. An effective strategy for this restriction is the construction of their surface heterojunctions. Unfortunately, the constructed heterojunctions have to be heterotypic because of the band discontinuities at the isotypic interface. Moreover, in most of cases, the constructing does not necessarily improve their performance efficiently due to the inertness of the ground state oxygen in trapping of the separated electrons. In this work, well-faceted TiO 2 with coexposed (001) and (101) and selective deposition of α-Fe 2 O 3 and Fe/Co-N 4 on the (001) facets was acquired. The overall photocatalytic activity of the well-designed composite in degradation of sulfathiazole has enhanced significantly by as much as 5.91 times compared to the bare faceted TiO 2 , and remained almost the same in 40 recycle usages. The significant performance of the designedly constructed composite was attributed to the remarkably enhanced light absorption, efficient separation of photo-induced charge carriers, oxygen activation and trapping of separated electrons through the Fe/Co-N 4 structure and the n-p-n dual heterojunction. Abstract In this study, CNCs-TiO 2 heterojunctions were synthesized successfully via a two-step method. The obtained materials were systematically characterized by a series of technologies including XRD, TEM, HRTEM, FT-IR, XPS, UV-DRS, PL and EIS. Moreover, the photocatalytic activity of CNCs-TiO 2 was evaluated by the photodegradation of crystal violet (CV) under UV and visible light irradiation. The results of characterization demonstrated that the CNCs-TiO 2 heterojunctions were formed. For composite CNCs-TiO 2 , the anatase TiO 2 was uniformly dispersed on the surface of CNCs with graphite structures via a new chemical bond, Ti O C and the growth of crystalline grains was inhibited. The photo-absorbing range of TiO 2 was extended to the visible light region after coupling with CNCs leading to the enhancement of light-harvesting ability. In addition, compared with pure TiO 2 particles, the recombination of photoinduced electrons and holes was restrained. The photodegradation experiment indicated that the CNCs-TiO 2 exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity in contrast with TiO 2 under UV and visible light irradiation, which was the result of the combined action of improved adsorption capability, enhanced light harvesting performance and efficient charge separation and transfer. The degradation of CV in the photocatalytic system followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics model. Fe-modified perovskite-type NaMgF 3 photocatalysts were synthesized via a microemulsion method followed by calcinations. The as-prepared catalysts were characterized via X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller specific surface areas (BET) measurements, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–vis DRS), and Photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). The photocatalytic activity of as-prepared materials was obtained via degradation of aqueous Rhodamine B. Results demonstrate that the Mg 2+ in NaMgF 3 may be substituted by a low amount of Fe 3+ , forming a finite solid solution NaMg 1-x Fe x F 3 ( x  = 0–0.3), while the perovskite-type framework of NaMgF 3 remains unchanging. Simultaneously, α-Fe 2 O 3 is formed to construct an efficient heterostructure. The Fe-modification inside of the lattice of NaMgF 3 can suppress growth and aggregation of NaMgF 3 crystallion, thus improving the light response and inhibiting the recombination of phtogenerated hole/electron pairs by forming a donor level of impurities and shallow traps in their lattice matrix. α-Fe 2 O 3 formed outside of NaMg 1-x Fe x F 3 can tightly bond to construct an efficient heterostructure between α-Fe 2 O 3 and NaMg 1-x Fe x F 3 , which is also an important factor of optical absorbance improvement and phtogenerated hole/electron pair separation, due to the migration and jumping of electrons or holes between the two semiconductors. The photocatalytic degradation rate of Rhodamine B on the modified catalyst under optimal content of Fe 3+ (10 mol%) reached to 93% within 1 h, and about 7.6 times of the rate constant of that on raw NaMgF 3 was observed. The results show that h + as well as ∙OH play dominant roles of the photodegradation of Rhodamine B. After the 5th photocatalytic experiment, the photocatalytic degradation rate of Rhodamine B retains more than 90% of the original value. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the ability of activated sludge (AS) to biodegrade triisobutyl phosphate (TiBP) after acclimation in an AS bioreactor by adding 50 mg/L TiBP. The bioreactor significantly increased the biotransformation rate of TiBP (2.15–12.7 d−1) over two months of acclimation. Seven transformation products (TPs) of TiBP were identified by high-resolution mass spectrometry, and hydrolysis, hydroxylation and dehydrogenation were the major biodegradation pathways of TiBP. TiBP degradation solutions at 0, 3, 7, and 10 h showed significantly toxic effects on zebrafish embryos, while the toxicity of TiBP degradation solutions at 24 h significantly decreased. Pseudomonas was inferred to be a specific bacterial population in the TiBP metabolic microbial consortium (TMMC) that degrades TiBP (p < 0.001). When TMMC (0.5, 1, and 2 g ss /L) was introduced into AS, the TiBP biotransformation rates (1.97, 2.05, and 2.26 d−1 at 1.0 mg/L TiBP, and 0.09, 0.11, and 0.83 d−1 at 30.0 mg/L TiBP) were significantly enhanced compared to the control (0.31 and 0.07 d−1) without TMMC inoculation. In general, this study provides new insights into the key species populations that accelerate TiBP degradation and promote the development of TiBP reduction biotechnology in WWTPs. Difficult storage of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2), low production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and inefficient Fe(II)/Fe(III) recycling limit the application of the Fenton-like process. Calcium peroxide (CaO 2) based iron oxychloride (FeOCl) system was developed for solving these deficiencies, and ciprofloxacin (CIP) was effectively degraded within 20 min treatment. 0.33 mmol/L H 2 O 2 and 2.4 mg/L dissolved oxygen (DO) were produced via CaO 2. Quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance results confirmed that hydroxyl radicals (·OH) and superoxide anion (·O 2 −) worked as the main ROS. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental results suggested that H atoms of H 2 O 2 adsorbed on FeOCl favored the activation of H 2 O 2 into ·OH and DO into ·O 2 −, and electrophilic Cl and O coordination in FeOCl contributed to the cycle of Fe(II)/Fe(III). ·OH and·O 2 − were responsible for CIP degradation, and toxicity assessments demonstrated that the developed system reduced the hazard of treated solution. Clarity of FeOCl/CaO 2 system triple roles, including H 2 O 2 and O 2 production, activation into ROS, and Fe(II)/Fe(III) recycling, facilitates the efficient utilization of O 2 in Fenton-like system. Construction of Z-scheme heterostructure is an effective strategy to enhance the charge carriers' separation. However, successfully achieving this on the defect heterojunction to improve the photocatalytic activity remains challenging. This work successfully obtained sulfur vacancy in the ZnIn 2 S 4 /BiOBr (SZIS/BOB) heterojunction composites with S–O covalent bonding using a hydrothermal method. As a result, they exhibited superior photocatalytic and stability performance. The optimized SZIS/BOB-10 exhibited excellent rhodamine B degradation (95.2%) and chromium (VI) reduction (97.8%) within 100 min under visible light. The enhanced composites with S-vacancies, S–O bond, and internal electric field induced the Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism. We had verified this mechanism based on the surface photovoltage spectra, electron spin response spectra, and density functional theory calculations. This work not only provides valuable insights into designing photocatalysts with a direct Z scheme heterostructure but also delineates a promising strategy for developing efficient photocatalysts to degrade organic pollutants. TiO 2 coated on activated carbon (TiO 2 /AC) was synthesized by a facile sol-hydrothermal preparation. The as-prepared TiO 2 /AC was modified by sequential treatment of nitric acid and thionyl chloride, followed by surface attaching of diethylenetriamine. The obtained materials were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, BET adsorption, and their adsorption–photocatalytic reduction activities were evaluated by the removal of aqueous Cr(VI). The results showed that TiO 2 particles were homogeneously deposited on the surface of activated carbon, and diethylenetriamine was grafted covalently onto the surface of TiO 2 /AC through amide linkage. The diethylenetriamine-functionalized TiO 2 /AC (TiO 2 /AC-DETA) exhibits high adsorption capability for Cr(VI) through electrostatic, coordinative and hydrogen bonding interactions. The significant enhancement of photocatalytic activity of TiO 2 /AC-DETA for reduction of Cr(VI) was observed, which was mainly attributed to the enrichment of Cr(VI) onto the surface of AC and successive fast interfacial transfer of Cr(VI) and photogenerated electrons resulted from the intimate contact between AC and TiO 2 through dense heterojunctions by forming of C–O–Ti linkages. In this work, Ag/AgCl/FeOCl (Ag–Fe) catalysts were successfully prepared via multistep routes in which Ag was uniformly anchored to the enriched Cl sites provided by exfoliated FeOCl nanosheets. Among these Ag–Fe catalysts, 5% Ag–Fe exhibited the highest pseudo first-order kinetic constant 0.1056 min−1 for photo-Fenton degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB), which was 11 times higher than that of FeOCl (0.0096 min−1). Ag–Fe catalysts exposed more coordinatively unsaturated Fe active sites to coordinate with H 2 O 2 due to the cleavage of Fe–Cl bond. The exposed coordinatively unsaturated Fe(III) active sites could capture the photoinduced electrons and reduce them to Fe(II), which boosted the separation efficiency of photogenerated charge carriers. Meanwhile, the photogenerated electrons of Ag0 transferred to the FeOCl, promoting the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II). In addition, the intensified visible light adsorption (SPR effect) was achieved after introducing Ag/AgCl nanoparticles on exfoliated FeOCl. Abstract: Surface functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with ethanol solubility were synthesized and the CNTs–TiO2 nanocomposites were prepared by coupling of TiO2 with modified CNTs through a sol–gel method. The as-prepared CNTs and composites were characterized and the composite samples were evaluated for their photocatalytic activity toward the degradation of aqueous methyl orange. It is showed that the acid oxidation of CNTs leads to the embedding of oxygenated functional groups, and as a result, the acid-treated CNTs in turn may serve as chemical reactors for subsequent covalent grafting of octadecylamine. Improved photocatalytic performance of CNTs–TiO2 composites was obtained, which is mainly attributed to the high dispersion of TiO2 on ethanol-soluble CNTs and the intimate contact between TiO2 and CNTs resulted from the dense heterojunctions through the Tih name="sbnd" />C structure at the interface between TiO2 and CNTs. Abstract: A new method to enhance photocatalytic performance of TiO2 by dispersing it onto hydrophilically surface modified carbon nanotubes is reported. The hydrophilically surface functionalized CNTs and as prepared composite CNTs-TiO2 photocatalysts were characterized using FT-IR, XPS, XRD, BET adsorption analysis and TEM. The composite samples were evaluated for their photocatalytic activity toward the degradation of methyl orange in aqueous solution under both UV and visible light irradiation. The results indicated that the hydrophilic functional groups were grafted covalently on the surface of CNTs successfully, and the functionalized CNTs exhibit higher BET specific surface area and aquatic solubility. The improved photocatalytic activity of CNTs-TiO2 was mainly attributed to the high dispersion of TiO2 on CNTs and the intimate contact between TiO2 and CNTs resulting in dense heterojunctions at the interface of TiO2 and CNTs. Proposed mechanism of the photoproduced charge transfer in 75NBA composite under visible-light irradiation. Visible-light-driven (VLD) photocatalysis has aroused extensive attention due to their great potential in applications concerning energy crisis and environmental pollution. Hence, for the first time, VLD and magnetic recyclable dual Z-scheme NiFe 2 O 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 /AgI (NBA) composites were prepared via a hydrothermal method to obtain NiFe 2 O 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 (NB) following an in situ deposition of AgI. The as-prepared NBA catalysts exhibit excellent photocatalytic performance for the degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP) compared to the pristine NiFe 2 O 4 , Bi 2 WO 6 or AgI under visible-light (VL) illumination. Among them, the 75%NiFe 2 O 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 /AgI (75NBA) composite exhibits optimal photocatalytic efficiency, which is 1.67, 1.51, 1.83 times higher than those of the pristine NiFe 2 O 4 , Bi 2 WO 6 and AgI within 60 min, respectively. The high catalytic efficiency may be ascribed to the synergistic effect of the increased VL harvesting and dual Z-Scheme transmission paths in 75NBA system. Furthermore, trapping experiments and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (ESR) analysis verify the co-existing of OH and O 2 − in the 75NBA photocatalytic system. Additionally, the magnetic 75NBA can be rapidly separated from water by an external magnet. Based on the results from High performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) analysis, four path ways towards the degradation of CIP are proposed. Semiconductor photocatalytic technology is an effective strategy to cope with the current environmental issues. Therefore, the development of low-cost and environment-friendly catalysts with high efficacy has become a research focus and emphasis. Herein, novel Z-scheme In 2 S 3 /Bi 2 WO 6 core-shell structure composites were controllably prepared by template and hydrothermal route. Highly improved photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) over In 2 S 3 /Bi 2 WO 6 core-shell composites was observed under visible-light (VL) irradiation (∼96.0%), which was 2.4 and 2.1 folds higher than that of In 2 S 3 and Bi 2 WO 6 , respectively. The excellent oxygen activation and catalytic performance was ascribed to the synergistic effects of built-in electric field to ensure easy charge exchange at the interface of In 2 S 3 and Bi 2 WO 6 , Z-scheme charge transfer path and the extended range of VL absorption. Superoxide radical (·O- 2) and hydroxyl (·OH) radicals were verified to be involved in the photocatalytic reaction by the active species capture experiment and the electron spin response (ESR) detection. The recycling experiments demonstrate the excellent stability and reusability of the In 2 S 3 /Bi 2 WO 6. In addition, in accordance with the experimental results, the highly efficient Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism and degradation paths were proposed. In situ EPR investigation by using CO as probe molecules shows that even pre-reduced by H2 at lower temperature results in SMSI for anatase titania supported palladium catalyst, but not for rutile titania supported palladium catalyst. The reason of the different behavior between rutile and anatase titania supported palladium catalyst is discussed. The very different catalytic properties between anatase and rutile titania supported palladium catalyst pre-reduced at lower temperature, and the rapid change of conversion and selectivity of titania supported palladium catalyst with the elevation of pre-reduction temperature further confirm the above-mentioned results. Fe-based metal organic frameworks (Fe-MOFs) being a newly developed photo-Fenton catalyst, have gained ever-increasing attention for environmental remediation, but have been limited by high synthesis cost (high energy-consumption and low yield). In this work, economical and scalable synthesis of Fe-BDC 1 (BDC denotes as terephthalic acid) was achieved via facile stirring under ambient condition, and its adsorptive, photocatalytic, Fenton-like and photo-Fenton performances were comprehensively explored against contaminants removal. In comparison, synthesized Fe-BDC 2 with the common solvothermal method, the yield of Fe-BDC 1 increased 3.4 times. Also, its adsorption capacity towards Rhodamine B (Rh. B) increased about 5.85 times. Moreover, the significantly improved degradation of Rh. B was observed in the Fenton-like and photo-Fenton systems with the increased reaction rate constants up to 4.90 and 2.33 times, respectively. This enhanced catalytic performance of Fe-BDC 1 was mainly attributed to the enlarged specific surface area (SSA) and favorable electron separation and migration, resulting into the accelerated ≡Fe(II)/≡Fe(III) cycle and increased yield of reactive oxidative species (ROSs). Additionally, the unique light-induced adsorption enhancement further strengthened the contaminants removal. Fe-BDC 1 as photo-Fenton catalyst was found superior over conventional catalysts in terms of advantages including: low dose requirement of catalysts (decrease in an order of magnitude) and H 2 O 2 , wide pH working range (3.0–9.0), excellent reusability and stability, universal removal behavior against all organic pollutants, and remarkable synergism between photocatalysis and Fenton-like process with synergistic factor of 77.23%. Moreover, the Fe coordinative unsaturated sites (Fe CUSs) and ·OH were determined as the active sites and the main ROSs, respectively, responsible for highly efficient pollutant degradation. This work gives a feasible solution for the preparation of Fe-MOFs with low synthesis cost and high yield, paving ways for their practical mass application in heterogeneous photo-Fenton oxidation.
