Background Studies examining diet and its links to birth outcomes among socioeconomically disadvantaged populations in the United States are scarce. Objectives We aimed to identify prenatal dietary patterns, examine their relationships with birth outcomes, and evaluate the variation of these associations by maternal diabetes status [no diabetes, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), preexisting diabetes]. Methods Women in the Maternal and Developmental Risks from Environmental and Social Stressors (MADRES) study (n  = 465)—an ongoing, prospective pregnancy cohort of predominantly low-income Hispanic/Latina women in Los Angeles—completed up to two 24-hour dietary recalls in the third trimester of pregnancy. We identified prenatal dietary patterns via factor analysis and evaluated their associations with infant birth weight and gestational age at birth (GA) z-scores, separately, using linear regression, as well as the associations of the dietary patterns with premature births, having an infant that was small for gestational age (SGA), and having an infant that was large for gestational age, using logistic regression and adjusting for relevant covariates. We additionally tested interaction terms between prenatal dietary patterns and maternal diabetes status in separate models. We adjusted for multiple comparisons using the false discovery rate. Results We identified 2 dietary patterns: 1) a dietary pattern of solid fats, refined grains, and cheese (SRC); and 2) a dietary pattern of vegetables, oils, and fruit (VOF). Comparing the highest to lowest quartiles, the VOF was significantly associated with a greater infant birth weight (β = 0.40; 95% CIs: 0.10, 0.70; P trend = 0.011), a greater GA (β = 0.32; 95% CIs: 0.03, 0.61; P trend = 0.036), lower odds of a premature birth (OR = 0.31; 95% CIs: 0.10, 0.95; P trend = 0.049), and lower odds of having an infant that was SGA (OR = 0.18; 95% CIs: 0.06, 0.58; Ptrend  = 0.028). Only among women with GDM, a 1-SD score increase in the prenatal SRC was significantly associated with a lower infant birth weight (β = −0.20; 95% CIs −0.39, −0.02; Pinteraction  = 0.040). Conclusions Among low-income Hispanic/Latina pregnant women, greater adherence to the prenatal VOF may lower the risk of a premature birth and having an infant that is SGA. Greater adherence to the SRC, however, may adversely affect newborn birth weight among mothers with GDM, but future research is needed to verify our findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Previous studies identified an association between schizophrenia and emotional instability. However, the relationship between schizotypal personality traits and emotional instability has not been explored to date. Furthermore, both mediating and moderating factors need to be identified.Methods: A total of 2936 students completed the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ), the Affective Lability Scale-Short Form (ALS-SF), and the Davos Assessment of Cognitive Biases Scale (DACOBS).Results: 1) The total scores of DACOBS (and all dimensions) and ALS-SF (and all dimensions) in the high schizotypal personality trait group were higher than in the low schizotypal personality trait group (all P < 0.05). 2) SPQ score and DACOBS social cognition problems, subjective cognitive problems, jumping to conclusions bias, and external attribution bias subscale scores positively predicted the total score of ALS-SF (or the dimensions of ALS-SF) in both male and female populations (all P < 0.05). 3) In the male population, DACOBS social cognition problems, subjective cognitive problems, jumping to conclusions bias, and external attribution bias subscale scores mediated the relationship between SPQ score and ALS-SF total score (or its subscales). In the female population, DACOBS attention for threat bias, external attribution bias, jumping to conclusions bias, social cognition problems, and subjective cognitive problems subscale scores mediated the relationship between SPQ score and ALS-SF total score (or its subscales). 4) Gender exerted a moderating effect on this relationship between SPQ score and ALS-SF total/anxiety-depression score (all P < 0.05).Conclusions: Schizotypal personality traits might influence emotional instability through cognitive biases, and the degree of this influence varies depending on gender. Nitrogen cycle is crucial for the Earth's ecosystem and human-nature coexistence. However, excessive fertilizer use and industrial contamination disrupt this balance. Semiconductor-based artificial nitrogen cycle strategies are being actively researched to address this issue. Black phosphorus (BP) exhibits remarkable performance and significant potential in this area due to its unique physical and chemical properties. Nevertheless, its practical application is hindered by ambient instability. This review covers the synthesis methods of BP materials, analyzes their instability factors under environmental conditions, discusses stability improvement strategies, and provides an overview of the applications of ambient-stable BP materials in nitrogen cycle, including N 2 fixation, NO 3 − reduction, NO x removal and nitrides sensing. The review concludes by summarizing the challenges and prospects of BP materials in the nitrogen cycle, offering valuable guidance to researchers. Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are increasingly considered neurotoxicants which may impact gross and fine motor development. We evaluated associations between prenatal OPE exposures and infant motor development. Third trimester urinary concentrations of nine OPE metabolites were measured in 329 mother-infant dyads participating in the M aternal A nd D evelopmental R isks from E nvironmental and S ocial Stressors (MADRES) cohort. Child gross and fine motor development at 6, 9, 12, and 18-months were assessed with the Ages and Stages Questionnaire-3 (ASQ-3) and operationalized in models using dichotomous instrument-specific cutoffs for typical motor development. Five OPE metabolites with >60% detection were specific-gravity-adjusted, natural log-transformed, and modeled continuously, while four metabolites with <60% detection were modeled dichotomously (detected/not-detected). We fit mixed effects logistic regression between OPE metabolites and fine/gross motor development and assessed sex-specific effects using a statistical interaction term and sex-stratified models. Among children, 31% and 23% had gross and fine motor scores, respectively, below the ASQ-3 at-risk cutoffs at least once across infancy. A doubling in prenatal diphenyl phosphate (DPHP) exposure was associated with 26% increased odds of potential fine motor delays (OR fine = 1.26, 95% CI: 1.02, 1.57, p = 0.04). We also observed significant interactions by infant sex for associations of detected dipropyl phosphate (DPRP) with gross motor development (p interaction = 0.048) and detected bis(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BCIPP) with fine motor development (p interaction = 0.02). Females had greater odds of potential motor delays for both detected DPRP (females vs males OR gross (95% CI) = 1.48 (0.71, 3.09), p = 0.30 vs 0.27 (0.06, 1.29), p = 0.10) and detected BCIPP (females vs males OR fine (95% CI) = 2.72 (1.27, 5.85), p = 0.01 vs 0.76 (0.31, 1.90), p = 0.56). There were no other significant associations between other metabolites and motor development, despite similar patterns. We found evidence of adverse effects of prenatal OPE exposures on infant motor development with greater adverse effects among female infants with some OPE metabolites. In the present work, CO 2 -storage materials (CO 2 SMs) obtained from CO 2 capture were applied as energy sources to facilely boost the growth of four vegetables including eggplant, tomato, pimiento, and cucumber. The effects of CO 2 SMs on the vegetable growth were determined by irrigating plants with different CO 2 SMs fertilizers for 60 d using water and NH 4 HCO 3 as the control groups. The results indicated that all CO 2 SM fertilizers dramatically promoted the plant growth of the tested vegetables in terms of plant height, stem diameter, and root development. Further investigation revealed that CO 2 in CO 2 SMs functioned as an indirect energy source to improve the root development, which increased the absorption of nutrients from the soil to further promote both vegetative growth florescence and yield. [Display omitted] • Inspired by biomineralization, for the first time, an ACDs-CO 2 -Ca(OH) 2 system to study the biomineralization process of CaCO 3 in the presence of ACDs was developed. • The effects of different conditions on the crystal form and morphology of CaCO 3 were studied in detail, and a possible biomineralization mechanism was proposed. • The spherical ACDs@CaCO 3 organic–inorganic hybrid fluorescent material with good luminescence ability was prepared. • The spherical ACDs@CaCO 3 have good biocompatibility, very low cytotoxicity, and can achieve cell imaging very well. Biomineralization is a common phenomenon in nature, and organisms can prepare functional materials with multi-level ordered structures through biomineralization. Herein, inspired by biomineralization, for the first time, we developed an amino acid quantum dots (ACDs)–CO 2 -Ca(OH) 2 system to study the biomineralization process of CaCO 3 in the presence of ACDs. The ACDs could not only control the morphology and crystal form of CaCO 3 but also could be doped into CaCO 3 during the formation of CaCO 3 to form ACDs@CaCO 3 organic–inorganic hybrid fluorescent materials which had excellent luminous ability. Meanwhile, the morphology and crystal form of CaCO 3 could also be controlled by controlling the CO 2 flow rate and rotation speed. After that, a possible biomineralization mechanism of CaCO 3 in the presence of ACDs was proposed. Finally, the synthetic spherical ACDs@CaCO 3 were applied to the field of biological imaging for the first time. Our work not only provides new bionic methods for the synthesis of multifunctional biomineralized materials and new insights for further understanding of biomineralization mechanism, but also the synthesized new biomineralization fluorescent materials have great application potential in the field of bioimaging. Effectively utilize photogenerated holes (h+) of catalysts while blocking rapid recombination of photoinduced carriers are the two critical challenges for solar-to-hydrogen (STH) conversion. Here, an exquisite 2D/2D LaVO 4 /g-C 3 N 4 (LaVO 4 /CN) heterostructure is delicately designed and fabricated for efficient photocatalytic H 2 -evolution while producing high value-added furfural simultaneously. The abundant biomass furfuryl alcohol (FFA) is employed to substitute the traditional h+ sacrificial agents such as triethanolamine (TEOA) for the oxidation half reaction, which is very meaningful to balance the H 2 -evolution half reaction. The LaVO 4 /CN heterojunction enables 3-time increased H 2 -evolution and a high furfural-production rate (0.95 mmol g−1 h−1) than that of pristine graphite carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 , labeled as CN), and with a 22.16% H 2 -evolution apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) irradiated at 400 nm. • Coping style mediates the association between autistic traits and social anxiety. • Sense of security mediates the association between autistic traits and social anxiety. • Coping style predicts sense of security and mediates the "autistic traits/social anxiety" link. • The FKBP5 gene rs3800373 moderates the association between autistic traits and social anxiety. The mechanism underlying the relationship between autistic traits and social anxiety still remains unknown. It is therefore necessary to investigate potential psychological and biological mechanisms. A total of 2695 college students were samples for this research during 2017−2018. The assessed variables included demographic characteristics and measures of autistic traits, sense of security, coping styles, and social anxiety. Blood samples were collected from which DNA was extracted. Regression analysis indicated that autistic traits and negative coping were positively associated with social anxiety; furthermore, positive coping, interpersonal security, and sense of control were negatively associated with social anxiety. Further analyses demonstrated that the relationship between autistic traits and social anxiety was mediated by coping styles (both positive coping and negative coping) and sense of security (both interpersonal security and sense of control), and coping style predicted the sense of security. The FK506 binding protein 5 (FKBP5) gene rs3800373 moderated the association between autistic traits and social anxiety. The present study is the first to demonstrate that both coping style and sense of security play an intermediate role between autistic traits and social anxiety in a sample of Chinese college students; moreover, the FKBP5 gene moderates this association between autistic traits and social anxiety. • Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are associated with glucose intolerance. • PFAS is associated with increased lipolysis. • Lipid metabolism may contribute to the association of PFAS with glucose intolerance. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) exposure is ubiquitous among the US population and has been linked to adverse health outcomes including cardiometabolic diseases, immune dysregulation and endocrine disruption. However, the metabolic mechanism underlying the adverse health effect of PFASs exposure is unknown. The aim of this project is to investigate the association between PFASs exposure and altered metabolic pathways linked to increased cardiometabolic risk in young adults. A total of 102 young adults with 82% overweight or obese participants were enrolled from Southern California between 2014 and 2017. Cardiometabolic outcomes were assessed including oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) measures, body fat and lipid profiles. High-resolution metabolomics was used to quantify plasma exposure levels of three PFAS congeners and intensity profiles of the untargeted metabolome. Fasting concentrations of 45 targeted metabolites involved in fatty acid and lipid metabolism were used to verify untargeted metabolomics findings. Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression (BKMR) was used to examine the associations between PFAS exposure mixture and cardiometabolic outcomes adjusting for covariates. Mummichog pathway enrichment analysis was used to explore PFAS-associated metabolic pathways. Moreover, the effect of PFAS exposure on the metabolic network, including metabolomic profiles and cardiometabolic outcomes, was investigated. Higher exposure to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was associated with higher 30-minute glucose levels and glucose area under the curve (AUC) during the OGTT (p < 0.001). PFAS exposure was also associated with altered lipid pathways, which contributed to the metabolic network connecting PFOA and higher glucose levels following the OGTT. Targeted metabolomics analysis indicated that higher PFOA exposure was associated with higher levels of glycerol (p = 0.006), which itself was associated with higher 30-minute glucose (p = 0.006). Increased lipolysis and fatty acid oxidation could contribute to the biological mechanisms linking PFAS exposure and impaired glucose metabolism among young adults. Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) is an important green oxidant for environmental remediation. It is a sustainable strategy to realize solar-driven in- situ H 2 O 2 production for timely using via cascade reactions to sterilization or remove organic pollutants etc. However, how to improve the H 2 O 2 production and consumption abilities of catalysts are the two main challenges. Here we report a superior carbon-related ZnIn 2 S 4 /g-C 3 N 4 catalyst with excellent H 2 O 2 generation and consumption capabilities for efficient sterilization under visible light irradiation. The 2D/2D heterojunction of ZnIn 2 S 4 /g-C 3 N 4 with rapid carrier separation and transfer efficiency exhibits a remarkable H 2 O 2 yield of 4.27 mmol g−1, which is much higher than that of current catalysts. The in- situ produced H 2 O 2 can be quickly activated to strong oxidizing hydroxyl radicals for sterilization, in which the Escherichia coli (E. coli) are fully cleared only within 25 min and 98% of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) are killed out after 60 min irradiation. The prepared photocatalysts realize the rapid production and consumption of H 2 O 2 , and this work provides an effect green strategy for sterilization via the in- situ generated H 2 O 2. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4) has been proven to be one of the most effective catalysts. However, the H 2 O 2 yields on g-C 3 N 4 materials fabricated by different precursors varied greatly, so that the reasons need to be explored urgently for the later using. In this work, a series of different ultra-thin g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets catalysts are synthesized, on which the H 2 O 2 generation and tetracycline removal abilities are evaluated comprehensively. Among these, the g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets prepared by dicyandiamide (DCN) is demonstrated the excellent one with the maximum H 2 O 2 production efficiency of 665.4 μmol h−1 g−1, and its apparent quantum yield (AQY) arrives to 9.3% when illuminated at 400 nm. The superior photocatalytic performance of DCN is attributed to its nearly two-electron (2e-) oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) process, numerous unpaired electrons, suitable band structure, rapid charge separation and transfer efficiency. This work provides an effective strategy for wastewater purification without adding H 2 O 2 , which has screened an excellent ultra-thin g-C 3 N 4 catalyst, for the further photocatalysis research. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has an insidious onset and high malignancy. Most patients have progressed to intermediate and advanced stages by the time of diagnosis, and the long-term efficacy of traditional treatments is not satisfactory. Immunotherapy has shown great promise in the treatment of HCC in recent years; however, the low immunogenicity and severe immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment result in a low response rate to immunotherapy in HCC patients. Therefore, it is of great significance to improve the immunogenicity of HCC and thus enhance its sensitivity to immunotherapy. Here, we prepared the boronophenylalanine-modified dual drug-loaded polydopamine nanoparticles by a facile method. This system used boronophenylalanine-modified polydopamine nanoparticles as a delivery vehicle and photothermal material for the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin and the immune agonist CpG oligodeoxynucleotides (CpG-ODN), with both active targeting and lysosomal escape functions. The cancer cells are rapidly killed by photothermal treatment, and then chemotherapy is used to further kill cancer cells that are inadequately treated by photothermal treatment. The combination of photothermal-chemotherapy synergistically induces the release of relevant antigens from tumor cells, thus initiating anti-tumor immunity; and then cooperates with CpG-ODN to trigger a powerful anti-tumor immune memory effect, potently and durably inhibiting HCC recurrence. It has been demonstrated that childhood maltreatment (CM) is associated with an increased risk of depression and psychotic symptoms. However, there is still a lack of studies on the prevalence of co-occurring severe depression and psychotic symptoms (CSDPS) and the association between CM and CSDPS among college students. We aim to investigate the prevalence and demographic distribution of CSDPS among Chinese college students and to examine its relationship with CM. A total of 7351 college students aged 18 and above completed the survey. Finally, 6854 valid questionnaires were included for further analysis. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and the item for witnessing domestic violence were used to assess the CM. The Prodromal Questionnaire-16 and the depression subscale of the Depression Anxiety and Stress-21 scale were used to assess psychotic symptoms and depressive symptoms. The prevalence of CSDPS was 1.47 % among the college students. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that emotional abuse and emotional neglect were associated with an increased risk of CSDPS (all p < 0.05). The risk of CSDPS was dramatically increased for individuals who had experienced ≥3 types of CM (OR = 22.929, p < 0.001), as compared to those who had experienced 1‐2 types of CM (OR = 4.452, p < 0.001) and those without the experience of CM. CM was found to be associated with an increased risk of CSDPS among the college students. Notably, experiencing more types of CM was also associated with a higher risk of CSDPS. Thus far, numerous efforts have been devoted to separate active substances from edible fungus substrates and residues for high application value utilization. Building upon this, the main methods for extracting active substances from edible mushroom residues are reviewed, and the mechanisms, influencing factors, and trade-offs of the various methods are analysed. Furthermore, the existing and possible directions of utilization of the extracted active substances are reviewed and discussed. Finally, challenges and prospects for the extraction and utilization of different substances in edible fungus residues are proposed. Probe 1 have the properties of aromatase inhibitors, which can inhibit the growth of tumor cells. As one of the most important approaches to reduce CO 2 emission from various combustion processes, CO 2 adsorption capture is facing several many challenges, including high adsorbent cost, high energy cost, and low CO 2 selectivity. In this work, four novel silicate-based nanomaterials (SBNMs), including magnesium silicate (MgSiO 3), manganese silicate (MnSiO 3), copper silicate (CuSiO 3) and zirconium silicate (ZrSiO 4), were fabricated via hydrothermal method with SiO 3 2− extracted from coal gangue (CG) for the adsorption capture of CO 2. Under the optimum conditions, the SiO 3 2− extraction ratio from the CG reached to 77.69%. The extracted SiO 3 2− was used to synthesize SBNMs with high surface area and high thermal stability, which were characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms technologies. These as-obtained SBNMs exhibited CO 2 adsorption capability of (7.82–17.93) cm3/g at 25 °C under 1 atm, respectively. The CO 2 adsorption data were successfully fitted with Freundlich model, and the adsorption processes were obvious chemically favored, spontaneous and exothermic according to thermodynamic parameters, including Qst, Δ G ads , Δ H ads and Δ S ads. Significantly, all SBNMs showed a excellent cycle performance and strong selectivity toward CO 2 over N 2. In the past two decades, a large number of organic sulfur compounds such as CS 2 have been released into the atmosphere, which has caused some impacts on the environment. At present, most of the industrial treatment methods of CS 2 have a series of problems, such as high energy consumption, the use of catalysts and additional treatment of by-products, which are not advisable from the economic point of view. Therefore, in this work, a method of efficient and rapid storage of CS 2 by EDAs + EGs ionic liquid systems at room temperature and pressure without catalyst were proposed. At the same time, the change trend of temperature and conductivity of EDAs + EGs systems during CS 2 storage were determined. Secondly, in order to realize the resource utilization of CS 2 SM, the mechanism of EDAs + EGs system storage CS 2 and the properties of CS 2 SM were further studied by NMR, FTIR, XPS, XRD and other modern spectral techniques. The results showed that white precipitate with high melting point (127–224 °C) and high thermal stability were formed after CS 2 is stored in the systems. These white precipitates had a similar chemical structure ([+H 3 NR 1 NH 3 +−SC(=S)OR 2 (R 3)O(S =)CS−] n), which were named as carbon disulfide storage material (CS 2 SM). Furthermore, CS 2 SMs were used as raw materials to one-step synthesize nano-metal sulfides (MSs) with excellent photocatalytic activity in the reduction of CO 2. This provides a new method for the rapid storage and utilization of CS 2 , and it also has important practical significance for reducing CS 2 emissions and realizing effective utilization of CS 2.
