Preserving and enhancing the quality of farmland holds significant importance for ensuring food security and promoting sustainable agricultural development. Drawing on survey data collected from 2600 households engaged in rice cultivation across 13 cities in Jiangsu Province, China, this study examines the impacts of farmer ageing on farmland ecological restoration technology adoption. The analysis employs the Probit model and instrumental variable approach to investigate this relationship. The study reveals the following key findings: (1) Farmer ageing hinders farmland ecological restoration technology adoption. (2) The influence of farmer ageing on farmland ecological restoration technology adoption varies across different land tenure arrangements, with farmers demonstrating a lower likelihood of adopting ecological restoration technology for rented farmland compared to their own farmland. (3) Agricultural training and agricultural social services have the potential to mitigate the negative effects of farmer ageing on farmland ecological restoration technology adoption. For global sustainable development, clean energy and excellent health are critical challenges. Cooking with clean energy may play an important role in the health of household members. Multi-layer data of "individual-household-village" was created based on the 2016 China Labor Force Dynamics Survey. The Probit model was used in this study to investigate the effects of clean energy cooking on the subjective health of rural household members. Compared to families that did not cook using clean energy, the results indicated that members living in the household adopting clean cooking energy were 3.5% more likely to be healthy than those living in the household not adopting clean cooking energy. The positive effect on subjective health of using clean energy for cooking was more significant in men than in women, and had a more favorable impact on the elderly and children than on members of the labor force. These findings can aid in implementing energy policies to improve population health and attain global sustainable development goals. • Energy and health are the key way to achieve the goals for sustainable development. • Cooking with clean energy helps to improve the health of household members. • Male members benefit more from cooking with clean energy than female members. • The elderly and children benefit more from cooking with clean energy than labors.
