32. Regulation of the pore structure of carbon nanosheets based electrocatalyst for efficient polysulfides phase conversions.

Abstract

• Hierarchical porous carbon nanosheets embedded with metallic electrocatalyst nanoparticles were synthesized and applied to the separator modification of lithium-sulfur batteries. • Studying the connection between pore structure and Li-S electrochemical behavior revealed the importance of pore structures in polysulfides phase conversions. • The initial capacity of the cell with Ni-CNS separator is 960.7 mAh g−1 at 1 C, and the capacity remains 760.1 mAh g−1 after 300 cycles, with a capacity retention rate of 79.1% and an average capacity decay of 0.07% per cycle. The practical applications of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are hampered by the sluggish redox kinetics and polysulfides shuttle in the cyclic process, which leads to a series of problems including the loss of active materials and poor cycling efficiency. In this paper, the pore structures of carbon nanosheets based electrocatalysts were precisely controlled by regulating the content of water-soluble KCl template. The relationship between pore structures and Li-S electrochemical behavior was studied, which demonstrates a key influence of pore structure in polysulfides phase conversions. In the liquid-sloid redox reaction of polysulfides, the micropores and small mesopores (d < 20 nm) exhibited little impact, while the mesopores (d > 20 nm) and macropores played a decisive role. As a typical exhibition, the nickel-embedded carbon nanosheets (Ni-CNS) with a high content of large mesopores and macropores can aid Li-S batteries in exhibiting stable cycling performance (760.1 mAh g−1 at 1 C after 300 cycles) and superior rate capacity (847.8 mAh g−1 at 2 C). Furthermore, even with high sulfur loading (8 mg cm−2) and low electrolyte (E/S is around 6 µL mg−1), the high area capacity of 7.7 mAh cm−2 at 0.05 C could be achieved. This work can provide a guideline for the design of the pore structure of carbon-based electrocatalysts toward high-efficiency sulfur species redox reactions, and afford a general, controllable, and simple approach to constructing high performance Li-S batteries. 35. Distinct hyperuricemia trajectories are associated with different risks of incident diabetes: A prospective cohort study.

Abstract

Conflicting results suggest a link between serum uric acid and diabetes and previous studies ignored the effect of continuous exposure of serum uric acid on diabetes risk. This study aims to characterize hyperuricemia trajectories in middle-aged adults and to examine its potential impact on diabetes risk, considering the role of obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. The cohort included 9192 participants who were free of diabetes before 2013. The hyperuricemia trajectories during 2009–2013 were identified by latent class growth models. Incident diabetes during 2014–2018 was used as the outcome. Modified Poisson regression models were used to assess the association of trajectories with diabetes. Furthermore, marginal structural models were used to estimate the mediating effects of the relationship between hyperuricemia trajectories and diabetes. We identified three discrete hyperuricemia trajectories: high-increasing (n = 5794), moderate-stable (n = 2049), and low-stable (n = 1349). During 5 years of follow-up, we documented 379 incident diabetes cases. Compared with the low-stable pattern, the high-increasing pattern had a higher risk of developing diabetes (RR, 1.42; 95% CI: 1.09–1.84). In addition, the percentages of total effect between the high-increasing hyperuricemia pattern and diabetes mediated by obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension were 24.41%, 18.26%, and 6.29%. However, the moderate-stable pattern was not associated with an increased risk of diabetes. These results indicate that the high-increasing hyperuricemia trajectory is significantly associated with an increased risk of diabetes. Furthermore, obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension play mediating roles in the relationship between the high-increasing hyperuricemia pattern and increased diabetes risk. • Prior studies found conflicting asscociation between serum uric acid and diabetes, ignoring the impact of sustained exposure. • The high-increasing hyperuricemia trajectory is significantly associated with an increased risk of diabetes. • Obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension partially mediated the asscociation between serum uric acid and diabetes. 39. Modulation recognition of underwater acoustic communication signals based on neural architecture search.

Abstract

Modulation recognition of underwater communication signals is a critical aspect of underwater information confrontation. However, the current deep learning-based methods for underwater communication modulation recognition often mimic neural network architectures used in image processing and speech processing, tending to perform poorly in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. This paper introduces a novel approach by utilizing neural architecture search (NAS) method. By automatically searching for neural architectures that are well-suited for modulation recognition in underwater environment, our proposed method improves the classification performance particularly in low SNR conditions. Furthermore, we have also proposed a recognition method based on attention mechanism and feature fusion, which substantially enhances the accuracy of identifying phase-modulated signals. Numerical simulation and experimental data are used to demonstrate performance of proposed methods. • Using architecture search can yield neural networks with optimal structures. • Feature fusion can enhance recognition performance. • Collecting experimental data validated the performance of the neural network. 40. Dose-response relationship between distinct serum uric acid trajectories and metabolic syndrome risk: A 5-year prospective cohort study.

Abstract

Background and Aims: Although high serum uric acid (SUA) at baseline has been linked to increased risk for metabolic syndrome (MetS), the association of longitudinal SUA changes with MetS risk is unclear. We aimed to examine the effect of distinct SUA trajectories on new-onset MetS risk by sex in a Chinese cohort.Methods and Results: A total of 2364 women and 2770 men who were free of MetS in 2013 were enrolled in this study and followed up to 2018. Group-based trajectory modeling was applied to identify SUA trajectories. Cox proportional hazards model was used to evaluate the association between SUA trajectory and new-onset MetS. The dose-response relationship between SUA trajectories and MetS risk was examined by treating trajectory groups as a continuous variable. During a median follow-up of 48.0 months, 311 (13.16%) women and 950 (34.30%) men developed MetS. SUA trajectories (2013-2018) were defined as four distinct patterns in both women and men: "low", "moderate", "moderate-high", and "high". Compared with "low" SUA trajectory, the adjusted hazard ratio for incident MetS among participants with "moderate", "moderate-high" and "high" trajectory was in a dose-response manner: 1.75 (95% CI: 1.08-2.82), 1.94 (95% CI: 1.20-3.14), and 3.05 (95% CI: 1.81-5.13), respectively, for women; 1.20 (95% CI: 0.97-1.49), 1.48 (95% CI: 1.19-1.85), and 1.66 (95% CI: 1.25-2.21), respectively, for men.Conclusions: Elevated SUA trajectories are associated with increased risk for new-onset MetS in women and men. Abstract

Federated learning (FL), as a safe distributed training mode, provides strong support for the edge intelligence of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) to realize efficient collaborative control and safe data sharing. However, due to the resource limitation and the instability of training environment in the complex IoV, ideal performance of FL cannot be achieved. Since considering the actual resource constraints and federated task requirements, the diversified device selection criteria make the resource-aware vehicle selection problem become a multi-criteria selection problem. To effectively support FL for IoV, the resource-aware multi-criteria vehicle selection problem was described as a many-objective optimization problem, and a resource-aware many-objective vehicle selection model (RA-MaOVSM) is proposed to optimize resource efficiency. The RA-MaOVSM considering heterogeneous resources (like computation resources, communication resources, energy resources and data resources) of on-board devices in IoV, and realizes the joint optimization of learning efficiency, energy cost and global performance. Additionally, a novel probability distribution combination game strategy is applied to many-objective evolutionary algorithm (MaOEA) for improving the model solving performance. Abstract

Cr-doped SrTiO 3 /Ti-doped α-Fe 2 O 3 heterojunction has been constructed by an ingenious way, i.e. using segregation titanium oxide on the surface of the Ti-doped α-Fe 2 O 3 electrode to in situ prepare Cr-doped SrTiO 3. After construction of the heterojunction, the photocurrent onset potential for water oxidation on a Ti4+ doped α-Fe 2 O 3 cathodically shifts by about 100 mV. Moreover, the cathodic shift of the onset potential can be preserved well even after a long time running. The results indicate the effectiveness and credibility of the fabricated heterojunction. In order to make clear the reason for the onset potential shift, the as-prepared Ti-doped α-Fe 2 O 3 and Cr-doped SrTiO 3 /Ti-doped α-Fe 2 O 3 samples were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, etc. Based on the experimental evidences, it is proposed that cathodic shift of the onset potential is mainly due to the enhanced charge separation at the photoanode surface. Abstract

To eliminate NOx emission and slip ammonia from coal-fired plants, ZSM-5 zeolites were modified with copper and different amount of silver. According to the activity measurement results, Ag 1.5 -Cu/ZSM-5 zeolite could exhibit 100 % NH 3 conversion efficiency at 350 ℃ and the N 2 selectivity was more than 90 %. Meanwhile, when NO was introduced in the gas flow, the NO and NH 3 conversion efficiency of Ag 1.5 -Cu/ZSM-5 reached 97 % and 100 % at 300 ℃. The catalyst also showed good tolerance to H 2 O and SO 2. XRD, BET, SEM and TEM experiments confirmed that the addition of silver and copper oxides would not destroy the MFI skeleton structure or significantly destroy the microporous and mesoporous structure of the molecular sieve. Moreover, Ag-Cu/ZSM-5 catalyst exhibited stronger surface acidity and promoted the NH 3 adsorption ability (NH 3 -TPD). In addition, there were more active oxygen on Ag-Cu/ZSM-5 catalyst resulting from the interaction between silver and copper oxides, which contributed to its better redox performance (XPS and H 2 -TPR). Abstract

Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) is an extensively used plasticizer that has aroused widespread concern about its potential toxicity. Previous evidences demonstrate that BBP exposure is associated with asthma and impaired lung function. Accumulating data indicates that neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), a particular manner of neutrophil death, play a vital role in the pathogenesis of respiratory diseases. However, the immunotoxicity effects of BBP in lung injury are unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate the potential impacts of BBP-induced NETs on lung injury and fibrosis. Mice treated with BBP exhibited significant lung injury, with alveolar hemorrhage, lung edema and increased neutrophil infiltration. Meanwhile, BBP promoted extensive neutrophil infiltration in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and NETs deposition in lung tissues. Moreover, BBP clearly triggered NETs formation in vitro , which was confirmed by net-like structures decorated with myeloperoxidase and citrullinated histone H3. Furthermore, BBP fueled glucose uptake and ROS burst of neutrophils playing essential roles during NETs formation. Additionally, we proved that NETs could promote fibrogenesis in murine lung epithelial cells and observed lung fibrosis remarkably after BBP-induced injury. Taken together, our findings indicated that exposure to BBP could increase the risk for lung injury and fibrosis by disturbing innate immunity via NETs formation. 47. Capsaicin ameliorates renal fibrosis by inhibiting TGF-β1-Smad2/3 signaling.

Abstract

Background and Purpose: Chronic kidney disease (CKD), characterized by renal fibrosis, is a global refractory disease with few effective therapeutic strategies. It has been reported that capsaicin exerts many pharmacological effects including liver and cardiac fibrosis. However, whether capsaicin plays a therapeutic role in renal fibrosis remains unclear.Methods: We investigated antifibrotic effects of capsaicin in two mouse renal fibrosis models as follows: C57BL/6J mice were subjected to unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) and fed with an adenine-rich diet. We uncovered and verified the mechanisms of capsaicin in human proximal tubular epithelial cells (HK2). We mainly used histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining, western blot assay, biochemical examination and other tools to examine the effects of capsaicin on renal fibrosis and the underlying mechanisms.Results: Capsaicin treatment significantly alleviated fibronectin and collagen depositions in the tubulointerstitium of the injured kidneys from UUO and adenine-fed mice. Meanwhile, capsaicin treatment obviously reduced α-SMA expression. Moreover, capsaicin treatment dramatically protected against the phenotypic alteration of tubular epithelial cells by increasing E-cadherin expression and decreasing vimentin expression during renal fibrosis. Mechanistically, capsaicin treatment effectively suppressed α-SMA and vimentin expressions but promoted E-cadherin expression in HK2 cells mainly through the inhibition of TGF-β1-Smad2/3 signaling.Conclusion: Capsaicin significantly ameliorated renal fibrosis possibly by retarding the activation of myofibroblasts and protecting against the phenotypic alteration of tubular epithelial cells mainly through the inhibition of TGF-β1-Smad2/3 signaling. Abstract

Abstract: ZnO porous thin films with nanowire structure were deposited by the one-step electrochemical deposition method. And a CdS layer was coated on the as-deposited ZnO nanowire thin films by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method to passivate surface states. Then the films were further sensitized by CdSe quantum dots (QDs) to serve as a photoanode for fabricating quantum dots-sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs). The effect of the CdS interfacial passivation layer on the performance of the QDSSCs was systematically investigated by varying the SILAR cycle number and heating the passivation layer. The amorphous CdS layer with an optimized thickness can effectively suppress the recombination of the injected electrons with holes on QDs and the redox electrolyte. The newly formed CdS layer on the surface of the ZnO nanowire thin film obviously prolongs the electron lifetime in the passivated ZnO nanoporous thin film because of the lower surface trap density in the ZnO nanowires after CdS deposition, which is favorable to the higher short-circuit photocurrent density (J sc). For the CdSe QDs-sensitized ZnO nanoporous thin film with the interfacial passivation layer, the J sc and conversion efficiency can reach a maximum of 8.36mAcm−2 and 2.36%, respectively. The conversion efficiency was improved by 83.47% compared with that of the cell based on the CdSe QDs-sensitized ZnO nanoporous thin film without CdS interfacial passivation (0.39%). Abstract: A novel thixotropic composite electrolyte was fabricated by using the amine group-functionalized silica nanoparticles as the gelator of an ionic liquid-based electrolyte for dye-sensitized solar cells. The SEM image of electrode deposited with electrolyte confirms that the high viscous gel electrolyte has a good contact with TiO2 electrode ascribed to the thixotropic property of the electrolyte. Based on the thixotropic and ionic liquid based-electrolyte containing the amine group-functionalized silica particles, the cells show better performance owing to the increased open-circuit voltage than that of the liquid device, yield a high energy conversion efficiency of 6.69% under AM 1.5 illumination at 100mVcm−2 when the content of the amine group-functionalized silica is 15wt.% and exhibit a long-term stability without sealing. Abstract

Abstract: Redox reactions of eosin Y (EY) in aqueous solutions in the presence and absence of Zn2+ were studied by spectroelectrochemical measurements combining cyclic voltammetry and in situ monitoring of absorption spectra, employing an optically transparent thin layer electrode (OTTLE). In the absence of Zn2+, the original dianion, EY2−, undergoes one electron reduction to trianion radical that is stable above pH 11, but is protonated and doubly reduced under the lower pH to become highly stabilized against re-oxidation. When Zn2+ is present, the reduction occurs as a two electron process coupled with complexation of two Zn2+ ions to bridge eosin Y molecules, resulting in polymeric mixed aggregates that are also greatly stabilized against re-oxidation. This reaction has been identified as the key process in the electrochemical self-assembly of ZnO/eosin Y hybrid thin films in nanowire structures. On the other hand, two electron oxidation of EY2− was found to convert the molecule into lactone form which is strongly stabilized against re-reduction. Despite of such highly complex redox reactions, these processes in overall were found to be reversible both electrochemically and spectroscopically. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
