Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation and dexamethasone can reduce postoperative nausea and/or vomiting. In this noninferiority study, we compared the effects of Neiguan acupoint (PC6) transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation with dexamethasone to prevent postoperative nausea and/or vomiting in female patients undergoing breast surgery. In total, 280 patients were randomized into the following 2 groups: transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (n = 140) and dexamethasone (n = 140). Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation was performed 0.5 hours before anesthesia induction, immediately after entering the post-anesthesia care unit, and every 3 hours after leaving the post-anesthesia care unit. In the postoperative ward, the anesthetist instructed the patient's family members to assist the patient with PC6 patient-controlled transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation. Patients in the dexamethasone group were given 8 mg dexamethasone (intravenously) at 0.5 hours before induction of anesthesia. The incidence of nausea, vomiting, need for rescue antiemetics, patient satisfaction score, and the feasibility results of PC6 patient-controlled transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation were recorded 24 hours after surgery. Within 0 to 24 hours after surgery, the incidence of postoperative nausea and/or vomiting in the transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation group was not inferior to the dexamethasone group (31.1% vs 27.9%, per protocol risk difference 3.2; 95% confidence interval -7.7 to 14.0). The results of the intention-to-treat analysis (30.7% vs 27.1%, risk difference 3.6; 95% confidence interval -7.0 to 14.2) agreed with the per protocol analysis. Patient satisfaction score in the transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation group was higher than that in the dexamethasone group (3.9 ± 0.1 vs 3.6 ± 0.1, P =.003). The scheme of preventing postoperative nausea and/or vomiting by PC6 patient-controlled transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation was feasible. Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation was noninferior to dexamethasone in preventing postoperative nausea and/or vomiting within 24 hours after breast surgery. Abstract: This paper introduces membership cloud function and membership cloud generator, then establishes membership cloud function model which is fit for mine. With the application of the model through simulation, the reliability of ring network, tree network and star network in mine is analyzed. We could know that ring network which has the maximum reliability but poor fault resistance ability costs for not all links and nodes could use double road and it is not suitable for mine roadway. Tree network and star network, whose reliability are poor than double ring network''s, are more suitable for mine roadway and have high cost performance, so they are more suitable for application in mine. Abstract: The sub-station has direct impact on the reliability of coal mine safety monitoring system reliability. The mine sub-station reliability of expected value and accelerated life test of the reliability value is given by setting the number of tests Censored Bayesian methods and Fixed Number Truncated of constant-stress accelerated methods on sub-station reliability research, and a sub-station with the voltage changes in the average life expectancy curves is simulationed. Fatty acid desaturase (FAD) plays important roles in plant growth and development and plant defense processes. In this study, we identified 27 MaFAD genes from the banana genome. According to the amino acid sequence similarities, their encoded proteins could be classified into five subfamilies. This classification is consistently supported by their gene and protein structures, conserved motifs and subcellular localizations. Segmental duplication events were found to play predominant roles in the MaFAD gene family expansion. Thirty miRNAs targeting MaFADs were identified and many hormone- and stress-responsive cis -acting elements and transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs) were identified in their promoters, indicating that the MaFADs expression regulation was very complicated. Gene expression analysis showed that some MaFADs showed significant differential expression in response to high and low temperature. Foc TR4 influenced greatly the expression of several MaFADs and greatly induced the fatty acid (FA) accumulations in roots. Although S. indica showed no significant influence on the expression of most MaFADs , it could greatly alleviate the influence of Foc TR4 on several MaFADs and FA biosynthesis. Our study revealed that MaFADs contributed greatly to the responses of high and low temperature stresses and mutualistic and parasitic fungi colonization in banana. • The expansion of the MaFAD family is mainly dependent on segmental duplications. • The expression patterns of MaFADs are regulated by multiple factors. • Some MaFAD genes were found to participate in both high and low temperature stress responses of banana. • S. indica increases banana wilt resistance by weakening the influences of Foc TR4 on FAD s expression and FAs biosynthesis. Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is one of the most common complications after surgery. Accumulating evidence suggests that postoperative neuro-inflammation plays a critical role in the mechanism of POCD. Recently, exogenous methane is reported to have anti-inflammatory properties and play a neuro-protective role in acute carbon monoxide poisoning injury. Therefore, we investigated the protective effect of methane on a POCD model induced by abdominal surgery and its underlying mechanism in aged mice. Methane-rich saline (MS) or normal saline (NS) (16 ml/kg) was injected intraperitoneally 30 min after the abdominal surgery. The result showed that methane attenuated spatial memory loss in Morris water maze (MWM) with decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokines production and activation of microglia in hippocampus after surgery. Meanwhile, methane treatment suppressed lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated phosphorylation of MAPKs pathways and its downstream target TNF-α and IL-6 in BV2 cells. Moreover, methane increased expression of IL-10 in the hippocampus 24 h after surgery, and blockade of IL-10 repressed the protective effect of methane on the cognitive impairments observed in MWM test, decreased microglial activation and the pro-inflammatory cytokine in plasma and hippocampal. Blockade of IL-10 abrogated the suppression effect of methane on the pro-inflammatory cytokine production and phosphorylation of NF-κB and p38MAPK both in hippocampus and in BV2 cells. • P. indica induced chlorophyll and flavonoids accumulation in longan leaf and improved POD activity in longan root. • P. indica promoted the longan root growth by inducing IAA biosynthesis and suppressing JA accumulation. As a mutualistic endophyte, the host range of Piriformospora indica is very broad and its promoting effects on host plant growth and development have been increasingly reported. In this study, we investigated the influence of P. indica colonization on the growth of longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) seedlings and found that the root length and root number, chlorophyll content in leaf, and flavonoid contents in both leaf and stem of P. indica colonized longan seedlings were significantly higher than those of the noncolonized controls. To reveal its promoting mechanism, activities of several antioxidant enzymes, contents of some antioxidant related molecules and phytohormones were measured. Results showed that the peroxidase (POD) activity (indicator of rooting ability) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA, a root growth promoting phytohormone) content in P. indica colonized roots were both significantly higher than controls. Moreover, P. indica colonization reduced the accumulations of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2), malondialdehyde (MDA) and jasmonic acid (JA) in longan roots. Our results indicated that P. indica colonization improved the rooting ability of longan through inducing the IAA biosynthesis and POD activity, facilitated and accelerated the root growth by reducing H 2 O 2 accumulation and suppressing the JA accumulation. Aims: We aimed to investigate the effects of LXRα, ChREBP and Elovl6 in the development of insulin resistance-induced by medium- and long-chain fatty acids.Methods: Sprague Dawley rats were fed a standard chow diet (Control group) or a high-fat, high sucrose diet with different fat sources (coconut oil, lard, sunflower and fish oil) for 8 weeks. These oils were rich in medium-chain saturated fatty acids (MCFA group), long-chain saturated fatty acids (LCFA group), n-6 and n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-6 PUFA and n-3 PUFA groups), respectively, which had different chain lengths and degrees of unsaturation. Hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp with [6-(3)H] glucose infusion was performed in conscious rats to assess hepatic insulin sensitivity.Results: LCFA and n-6 PUFA groups induced hepatic insulin resistance and increased liver X receptor α (LXRα), carbohydrate response element binding protein (ChREBP) and long-chain fatty acid elongase 6 (Elovl6) expression in liver and white adipose tissue (WAT). Furthermore, LCFA and n-6 PUFA groups suppressed Akt serine 473 phosphorylation in liver and WAT. By contrast, in liver and WAT, MCFA and n-3 PUFA groups decreased LXRα, ChREBP and Elovl6 expression and improved insulin signaling and insulin resistance, but Akt serine 473 phosphorylation was not restored by MCFA group in WAT.Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the mechanism of the different effects of medium- and long-chain fatty acids on hepatic insulin resistance involves LXRα, ChREBP and Elovl6 alternations in liver and WAT. • P. indica significantly increased the transplanting survival rate of tissue cultured gerbera seedlings, and improved the aboveground fresh weight, underground fresh weight and chlorophyll content of the fungus colonized transplanted seedlings (PI). • Although P. indica showed no obvious antagonistic effect on Phytophthora cryptogea (the causal agent of gerbera root rot disease), P. cryptogea inoculated PI seedlings (PP) showed much milder diseased symptom compared with the P. cryptogea inoculated seedlings (PC). • P. indica appeared to improve the plant growth and confer gerbera with root rot tolerance through increasing POD, CAT and SOD activities and stimulating IAA and GA accumulation, and suppressing ABA and JA biosynthesis. P. indica can confer gerbera with root rot resistance. Piriformospora indica , a root endophytic fungus with growth-promoting and resistance-enhancing effects on host plants, has been successfully applied as natural biofertilizer and biological control agent. In this study, the effects of P. indica on the growth and root rot disease resistance of gerbera plants were investigated. Results showed that P. indica significantly increased the transplanting survival rate of tissue cultured seedlings, and improved the aboveground fresh weight, underground fresh weight, Fv/Fm and Y(II) values and chlorophyll content of P. indica colonized transplanted seedlings (PI). Although P. indica showed no obvious antagonistic effect on Phytophthora cryptogea, P. cryptogea inoculated PI seedlings (PP) showed much milder diseased symptoms compared with the P. cryptogea inoculated seedlings (PC). The P. indica colonization significantly increased the activities of SOD, CAT, POD and PAL, but greatly suppressed the MDA and H 2 O 2 accumulations in gerbera root. The contents of some growth promoting phytohormones, such as IAA and GA, were induced by P. indica , while the ABA and JA contents was significantly inhibited. After P. cryptogea inoculation, the SOD, POD, CAT and PAL activities and IAA and GA contents decreased in PC but increased in PP. Besides, ABA and JA contents in PP were significantly lower than in PC. Our results indicated that P. indica improved the gerbera growth by increasing chlorophyll content, photosynthetic characteristics and growth-beneficial phytohormones' accumulations. Moreover, it appeared to confer gerbera with root rot resistance through increasing POD, CAT and SOD activities, stimulating IAA and GA accumulations, and suppressing ABA and JA biosynthesis. Abstract: We infused the 48h intralipid plus heparin (IH) to normal rats to elevate plasma free fatty acids (FFAs). Co-infusion of taurine was designed for the purpose of studying the effects of taurine on insulin sensitivity, oxidative stress, c-Jun NH-terminal kinase (JNK)1 activity and insulin signaling in livers of prolonged IH-infused rats. Cannulated rats were infused for 48h intravenously with either saline or IH, with or without taurine. Hyperinsulinemic–euglycemic clamps with [6-3H] glucose infusion were performed to assess hepatic insulin sensitivity. IH infusion increased plasma 8-isoprostaglandin and hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA). IH also increased JNK1 activity and insulin receptor substrate 1/2 (IRS-1/2) serine phosphorylation, reduced insulin-stimulated IRS-1/2 tyrosine phosphorylation and Akt serine 473 phosphorylation, and induced hepatic insulin resistance. Taurine co-infusion with IH prevented the rise in 8-isoprostaglandin and MDA, inhibited the activation of JNK1, and improved insulin signaling and insulin resistance in liver. The present study has demonstrated that taurine, as an antioxidant, prevented hepatic oxidative stress and ameliorated hepatic insulin resistance. And this effect may be associated with the inhibition of JNK1 activation and the improvement of insulin signaling. Increasing evidence revealed that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in tumor progression. In the present study, we explored the roles and underlying mechanisms of hsa_circ_0075341 in cervical cancer development. Our data showed that the expression of hsa_circ_0075341 was significantly upregulated and associated with larger tumor size, advanced FIGO stage, and lymph-node metastasis in cervical cancer patients. Hsa_circ_0075341 inhibition reduced cervical cancer cell proliferation and invasion in vitro. In mechanism, hsa_circ_0075341 negatively regulated miR-149-5p in cervical cancer progression. In addition, AURKA was confirmed as a direct target of miR-149-5p in cervical cancer and positively regulated by hsa_circ_0075341. Collectively, our data suggested that hsa_circ_0075341 promoted cervical cancer cell proliferation and invasion through regulating the miR-149-5p/AURKA axis, which provided a novel therapeutic target for cervical cancer treatment. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in tumor initiation and progression, including cervical cancer (CC). However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of STXBP5-AS1 in CC are still unknown. The expression of STXBP5-AS1, miR-96-5p, and PTEN in CC was explored by qRT-PCR. CCK-8 and transwell assays were used to determine the roles of STXBP5-AS1 on CC progression. Luciferase report assay and RIP assay were used to explore the correction between STXBP5-AS1, miR-96-5p and PTEN in CC. In our study, we showed that the expression of STXBP5-AS1 and PTEN was reduced while miR-96-5p expression was upregulated in CC. STXBP5-AS1 overexpression significantly reduced CC cells proliferation and invasion ability by suppressing miR-96-5p expression. MiR-96-5p promoted CC cells progression via regulating PTEN expression. Furthermore, STXBP5-AS1 was identified as a ceRNA to upregulate PTEN via sponging miR-96-5p in CC. Taken together, our findings revealed that STXBP5-AS1 might function as a ceRNA to drive CC cells proliferation and invasion via regulating miR-96-5p/PTEN axis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
