Pulmonary hypertension is a pathophysiologic manifestation of a heterogeneous group of diseases, with the main pathophysiologic mechanisms being persistent pulmonary vasoconstriction and irreversible vascular remodeling. The impact significantly affects the prognosis of patients with pulmonary hypertension. If it is not treated and intervened in time, it may lead to right ventricular failure and further endanger the patient's life. Within the past decade or so, nebulized inhalation therapy is considered to have advantages in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension as a safe, limited, and rapid therapy, for example, inhaled vasodilators (prostate analogs, nitroglycerin, carbon monoxide analogs sildenafil, and nitroprusside), inhaled anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative agents (simvastatin, and selatinib), and inhaled peroxides (levocetirizine) have been recognized as emerging therapeutic approaches in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension as emerging therapeutic approaches. Therefore, this article provides a brief review of recent advances in the potential of nebulized inhaled vasodilators, anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative agents, and anti-peroxides for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension, with the aim of providing different therapeutic options for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension, enhancing the quality of survival, alleviating symptoms, and improving the prognosis of patients with this condition. Objectives: To investigate the role played by transforming growth factor beta receptor II (TGFβRII) in cryptorchidism-induced spermatocyte apoptosis. Methods: A unilateral cryptorchidism rat model was surgically established in 20-day-old male SD rats. Testis samples were collected 0, 4, 7, 14, and 21 days after surgery. Histologic changes, apoptosis, TGFβRII/smad, and TGFβRII/mitogen-activated protein kinase activation were explored by hematoxylin-eosin staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling assay, and western blot analysis, respectively. TGFβRII was knocked down in GC-2 spg cells and the cells were then treated with hyperthermia. Western blot analysis was performed to detect TGFβRII, the phosphorylation status of smad2, smad3, and p38 and the cleavage status of caspase-3. Results: Surgically induced cryptorchidism significantly impaired testis growth and spermatogenesis in unilateral undescended testes (UUTs) compared with contralateral descended testes 7, 14, and 21 days after surgery. The mean apoptotic index was significantly higher in UUTs than in contralateral descended testes. Western blot analysis showed that TGFβRII and smad2 expression increased. Phosphorylation of smad2, smad3, and p38 and cleavage of caspase-3 increased in UUTs. TGFβRII knockdown in GC-2 spg cells reduced hyperthermia-induced apoptosis by inhibiting smad2, smad3, and p38 phosphorylation as well as downstream caspase-3 cleavage. Conclusions: Cryptorchidism lowered the growth rate of testes by inducing apoptosis, via a mechanism involving the activation of the TGFβR/smad and TGFβR/mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways. Abstract: Previous studies have detected associations between mitochondrial haplogroups and schizophrenia (SZ). However, no study has examined the relationship between major mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups and SZ in the Chinese population. The aim of this study was to assess the association between mtDNA haplogroups and SZ genesis in the Chinese Han population. We used a case-control study and sequenced the mtDNA hypervariable regions (HVR1, HVR2, and HVR3) in the Han population. We analyzed mtDNA haplogroups and HVR polymorphisms in 298 SZ patients and 298 controls. The haplotypes were classified into 10 major haplogroups: A, B, CZ, D, F, G, M, N, N9a, and R. Statistical analysis revealed that only N9a showed a nominally significant association with protection from SZ [1.68% vs. 6.38%, p=0.004, OR=0.251 (0.092–0.680); after adjustment for age and sex: p=0.006, OR=0.246 (0.090–0.669)]. Three HVR polymorphisms were found to be nominally significantly different between subjects with SZ and controls, and all except one (m.204T>C) are linked to the N9a haplogroup. Our results indicate that mtDNA haplogroup N9a might be a protective factor for SZ. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Soil ecology plays an important role in the growth and health of plants. Research suggests that long-term monocropping may lead to soil ecological disorders. In this study, we aimed to understand the reasons for the decrease in plant productivity stemming from long-term monoculture cropping. Greenhouse studies were conducted to determine the cause of continuous cropping (CC) obstacles in soils under 12 years of continuous strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) production. The data suggested that CC led to three phases of changes in abiotic and biotic soil factors. In phase I (CC for 2–6 years), significant changes were observed only in soil physicochemical properties, such as the pH, total nitrogen (TN), ammonium nitrogen (NH 4 +-N), available phosphorus (AP), available potassium (AK) and soil organic matter (SOM), which obviously changed from the second year to the sixth year. In phase II (CC for 6–8 years), two biotic factors, key fungi such as Fusarium , Humicola and Arthrobotrys and soil nematodes, i.e., populations and communities of nematodes, started to change significantly in terms of their abundance. In phase III (CC for >8 years), the accumulation of phenolic acids, i.e., p-hydroxybenzoic acid (p-HBA), ferulic acid (FA), p-coumaric acid (p-CA) and cinnamic acid (CA), significantly inhibited crop growth, and the abundance of key bacteria, including Bacillus , Sphingomonas and Sphingopyxis , started to change significantly from the eighth CC year. The results in this study provide useful information for solving CC obstacles in strawberry production.
