Co-reaction of methanol and ethylene (CME) have been performed on a number of proton type MFI zeolites and CHA zeotype materials to investigate the influence of zeolite topology and acidities upon the transformation of reactants and the formation of desired product of propylene. Two other reactions of methanol-to-olefins (MTO) and ethylene transformation (ET, with only ethylene as the reactant) were carried out in order to compare the promotion effect for the propylene productivity. The reactions were carried out at 773 K. The addition of methanol remarkably promoted the ethylene transformation over Al-poor HMFI zeolite and, more importantly, the by-products due to hydrogen-transfer reactions were efficiently inhibited, leading to higher propylene selectivity. Such promotion effect was, however, not significantly observed upon the Al-rich HMFI zeolite. Moreover, such promotion effect of methanol upon ethylene transformation was un-pronounced or non-existed upon the CHA zeotype materials including aluminosilicate, gallosilicate and silicoaluminophosphate, possibly owing to the CHA topology. Zinc-rich epoxy coatings (ZRECs) have been widely used to protect steel against corrosion because of their excellent corrosion resistance. However, the ZRECs preparation usually used a large amount of Zn powders and organic solvents, which not only wasted resources but also produced a great quantity of volatile organic compounds (VOC). Therefore, it was necessary to develop a method which can prepare epoxy coatings with low Zn content, great corrosion resistance and green environmental protection. In this paper, three different flake metal powders (Zn, ZnAl alloy and ZnAlMg alloy) were used to replace spherical Zn powders to develop environmentally friendly coatings with low pigment content. The coatings were evaluated by salt spray test and electrochemical test. The results show that the use of flake metal powders instead of spherical zinc pigments can enhance the electrical connection between metal particles, prolong the path of corrosive medium infiltration into the coatings, enhance the physical shielding effect of the coatings, and reduce the pigment content by one third. Among them, the ZnAl coatings displayed the best anti-corrosion performance resisting salt fog corrosion for 28 days. In addition, the experimental results show that the self-healing ability of the coatings also plays an important role in the immersion middle and late stages. Abstract: To further expand the application of an artificial neural network in the field of neutron spectrometry, the criteria for choosing between an artificial neural network and the maximum entropy method for the purpose of unfolding neutron spectra was presented. The counts of the Bonner spheres for IAEA neutron spectra were used as a database, and the artificial neural network and the maximum entropy method were used to unfold neutron spectra; the mean squares of the spectra were defined as the differences between the desired and unfolded spectra. After the information entropy of each spectrum was calculated using information entropy theory, the relationship between the mean squares of the spectra and the information entropy was acquired. Useful information from the information entropy guided the selection of unfolding methods. Due to the importance of the information entropy, the method for predicting the information entropy using the Bonner spheres' counts was established. The criteria based on the information entropy theory can be used to choose between the artificial neural network and the maximum entropy method unfolding methods. Abstract: The objective of this study was to build an effective and reliable method based on the artificial neural network (ANN) model for unfolding neutron spectrum. The number of counts measured by 15 Bonner spheres and 281 neutron spectra were selected as the database. After singular value decomposition was used to determine the relationship between Bonner spheres, 11 Bonner spheres were chosen as input descriptors. The three-layer feedforward neural networks (11-5-1) were employed to predict the spectrum in each energy bin. Using information entropy theory and the results of the ANN calculations, the sensitivity of each sphere to the entropy of the spectrum was quantitatively analyzed. The spectra results were compared with the results obtained using the maximum entropy method (MEM). The averaged root mean-square-error (MSE) of the MEM output and the desired spectra was 0.012; the averaged MSE of the ANN calculations was 0.006. The MSE results indicate that the 11-5-1 ANN models are able to accurately and reliably predict neutron spectra. The ANN model developed in this study to unfold neutron spectra from the counts measured by 11 Bonner spheres provides an alternative method for unfolding spectrum. Abstract: Gallosilicate analogues of chabazite zeolite with CHA topology have been synthesized, characterized and employed as catalysts for the methanol-to-olefin (MTO) process. 71Ga NMR spectra indicate that Ga is incorporated into the framework of these zeolitic materials during the hydrothermal synthesis. IR measurements show that stretching vibration of the hydroxyl groups associated with the framework Ga appears at 3600cm−1. The gallosilicates with high Ga contents show Lewis acidity, which is possibly caused by degalliation during calcination, whereas only Brönsted acid sites are observed on the sample with relatively low Ga content. The catalysts show promising catalytic performance in the MTO reaction, particularly from the stability point of view, compared with H[Al]CHA zeolites. Abstract: A series of proton-type aluminosilicate H/CHA zeolites with different Si/Al ratios have been synthesized, characterized and used as catalysts for the methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction. The structure and acidities of zeolites are characterized by various techniques such as 27Al MAS NMR and in situ IR spectroscopy. It is found preparation procedures remarkably affect the incorporation of Al into the zeolite framework, and the low amount of Brönsted acid sites effectively mitigate the coking during the MTO process, resulting in prolonged catalytic stability at relatively low reaction temperatures. In situ IR spectroscopy indicates that methanol reacts with proton of H/CHA zeolites to form methoxy species at 373K. Abstract: Amorphous composite coatings Fe38Ni30−X Si16B14V2M X (X =0, 1, 2) (M contains Al, Ti, Mo, and C) were prepared with low purity of raw materials by laser cladding. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy results show that the coating have an amorphous structure with a few crystalline phase on it. The amorphous phase is the primary phase. The glass forming ability as well as the microhardness of the Fe-based alloy made from low purity raw materials can be much enhanced by adding small amount of multi-components. However, the elements addition has its optimal quantity. When X is equal to 1, the microstructure of the coating contains 97.93% amorphous phase and 2.07% crystalline phase on it. As a result, the microhardness of the coating reaches maximum. With further increasing of the additions, the amorphous phase in the coating lessens instead of augment and the crystalline phase begins to accumulate, which result in the decrease of the microhardness. Abstract Accurate measurement of cadmium content in rice is of utmost importance to determine if the inspected rice product is safe to people. X-ray fluorescence analysis is frequently used for multi-element analysis because it has characteristics of fast, accurate and nondestructive. However, due to the low content of cadmium in rice, its corresponding characteristics energy peak is relatively weak and is sensitive to the background information in the X-ray energy spectrum. Thus, it is very tough to obtain the accurate values of cadmium content by utilizing traditional X-ray fluorescence analysis. In this paper, the identification of weak peaks of cadmium is much improved by proposing a hybrid algorithm combining genetic algorithm (GA) and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm (LM). The hybrid algorithm not only takes full advantages of GA and LM respectively but also inhibits their unwanted properties: poor local search ability of GA and locally convergent of LM. The proposed hybrid algorithm is employed to identify weak peaks in X-ray spectra of six contaminated rice samples with different contents of cadmium. Two comparative experiments are conducted to compare the performance between GA, LM and the proposed hybrid algorithm. One of the comparative experiments has the relative error varying with the number of calculations, which aims to verify the accuracy and stability. The results show that the hybrid algorithm is a better option in terms of accuracy and stability. Another comparative experiment of which the average relative error varies with the number of iterations is conducted to verify the computing efficiency. The experiments show that the hybrid algorithm exhibits a faster convergence rate. Two numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can well resolve the identification issue of the cadmium in the X-ray spectra and significantly improve the content measurement accuracy of cadmium in the quality evaluation experiment of rice products. Here we present our findings of superhydrophilic (SHPL)/superhydrophobic (SHPB) Dianthus caryophyllus -like hierarchical structure for corrosion inhibition and biofouling mitigation through a relatively high-speed hard anodisation (HA) technique. The surface morphologies, chemical compositions were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR). The static and dynamic behaviors of water droplets and water stream demonstrate the extremely low contact angle of SHPL surface and the low adhesive force of SHPB surface. Electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution and settlement experiments in Chlorella vulgaris -inoculated culture medium revealed that the SHPL surface cannot efficiently protect the underlying substrates from corrosion and Chlorella vulgaris cell adhesion, whereas the SHPB surface exhibited noticeable corrosion inhibition and biofouling mitigation. In addition, the synthetic SHPB surface presents good self-cleaning ability to contamination and thermal stability to hot water droplets. We believe that our findings of the anodized SHPL/SHPB Dianthus caryophyllus -on-nanowires structure are helpful in understanding the difference between superhydrophilicity and superhydrophobicity, which is beneficial for designing new bio-inspired interfacial materials with super-wettability for potential marine applications. For its high specific discharge capacity and low working voltage, lithium vanadate is considered a promising anode material. However, inherent low conductivity and unsatisfactory cycle performance limit its further application. In this work, doping at the V site does not destroy the crystal structure of lithium vanadate but also increases the lattice volume. Moreover, the increased content of oxygen defect in the presence of redox reaction effectively improves the electrochemical properties of lithium vanadate. At the same time, the enhancement of hydrophilicity effectively improves the migration rate of ions. Among all LiLa x V 3-x O 8 samples, LiLa 0.01 V 2.99 O 8 (LVO-La-10) demonstrates better rate and cycle performance. LVO-La-10 delivers specific discharge capacities of 93.5 mAh g1 at 0.5 C, and 42.8 mAh g−1 at 7 C, which is 17.4 and 16.7 mAh g−1 larger than that of lithium vanadate, respectively. Moreover, the capacity retention rate of LVO-La-10 (87.8%) is still higher than that of lithium vanadate (75.8%) at the rate of 0.2 C after 100 cycles. Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis) hibernates without eating and drinking when the ambient temperature is very low. To better understand the characteristics of energy utilization during hibernation, the turtles in the physiological phases of summer active (SA), Pre-Hibernation (Pre-H), Mid-Hibernation (Mid-H) and early arousal (EA) were sampled. The results showed that the levels of serum triglyceride and hepatic lipid droplet were markedly increased in Pre-H and decreased in Mid-H compared with that in SA, indicating that P. sinensis experiences lipid accumulation in Pre-H and lipid is the predominant energy reserve during hibernation. The mRNA expression levels of genes (FABP and CPT-2) involved in lipolysis and lipid oxidation were up-regulated in Mid-H, while the genes related to lipid synthesis (FAS , ACSL-1 , ACC , elovl5 , and SCD1) were inhibited in Mid-H. Meanwhile, the mRNA expression levels of endoplasmic reticulum stress marker gene Bip and key genes (ATF4 , ATF6 , and IRE1α) involving the unfolded protein response were significantly increased in Mid-H and EA. Also, the expression levels of genes (ASK1 , JNK1 , and Bax) associated with cell apoptosis increased in Mid-H and EA, however, the expression of Bcl2 was inhibited in Mid-H. Therefore, hibernation can cause endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis. Abstract: Peanut shell, a byproduct in oil production, is rich in natural antioxidants. Here, a rapid and efficient method using DPPH–HPLC–DAD–TOF/MS was used for the first time to screen antioxidants in peanut shell. The method is based on the hypothesis that upon reaction with 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), the peak areas of compounds with potential antioxidant activities in the HPLC chromatogram will be significantly reduced or disappeared, and the identity confirmation could be achieved by HPLC–DAD–TOF/MS technique. With this method, three compounds possessing potential antioxidant activities were found abundantly in the methanolic extract of peanut shell. They were identified as 5,7-dihydroxychromone, eriodictyol, and luteolin. The contents of these compounds were 0.59, 0.92, and 2.36mg/g, respectively, and luteolin possessed the strongest radical scavenging capacity. DPPH–HPLC–DAD–TOF/MS assay facilitated rapid identification and determination of natural antioxidants in peanut shell, which may be helpful for value-added utilization of peanut processing byproducts. Abstract: Astragalus membranaceus is a common traditional Chinese medicinal plant widely used as a tonic to enhance the body''s natural defense mechanisms. The objective of this study was to investigate the application of the superfine grinding technology in A. membranaceus. The physical-chemical properties of five types of A. membranaceus powders with particle sizes of 300, 149, 74, 37 and 7.56μm were investigated. The experiments showed that the smaller the A. membranaceus particle dimension was, the greater the surface area (from 0.191 to 1.573m2/g) and bulk density (from 0.5139 to 0.6139g/ml) was, the smaller the angles of repose (from 52.30° to 35.63°) and slide (from 47.37° to 29.47°) were. The water holding capacity (WHC) and polysaccharide solubility significantly improved as decreasing the size of A. membranaceus particle (p <0.05). Abstract: A series of WO3/Al2O3/HY catalysts were prepared by thermal spread method (i.e., calcination of physically mixed WO3, Al2O3 and HY zeolite) for the metathesis reaction between ethene and 2-butene to propene. The transformation of tungsten oxide species was studied by the characterization techniques of XRD, H2-TPR, UV-Vis, UV Resonance Raman, NH3-TPD and N2 adsorption–desorption techniques. The thermal spread effect during calcination results in the dispersion of bulk WO3 phase into microcrystallites on γ-Al2O3 surface, followed by a chemical transformation to the monomeric surface tungstate species via the involvement of Brönsted acid sites of HY zeolite. These monomeric surface tungstate species, identified by a characteristic Raman band at 970cm−1, are crucial for the metathesis activity. We suggest such activity related species are tetrahedrally coordinated. Moreover, it is found that there is an optimal calcination time for the formation of these WO4 2− species and further calcination causes the condensation to the polytungstate clusters, which are less active for the metathesis reaction. The optimized catalyst shows superior catalytic activity of metathesis reaction between ethene and 2-butene to propene at 453K with 2-butene conversion close to thermodynamic equilibrium value (∼64%). Abstract: Gypenosides (GPs) were tested for their ability to protect primary cultures of immature cortical cells against oxidative glutamate toxicity. In immature neural cells, glutamate cytotoxicity is known to be mediated by the inhibition of cystine uptake, leading to depletion of intracellular glutathione (GSH). The depletion of GSH impairs cellular antioxidant defenses resulting in oxidative stress and cell death. We found that pretreatment with GPs (100–400 μg/ml) significantly protected cells from glutamate-induced cell death. It was therefore of interest to investigate whether GPs protect cortical cells against glutamate-induced oxidative injury through preventing GSH depletion. Results show that GPs significantly up-regulated mRNAs encoding γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase (γ-GCS) and glutathione reductase (GR) and enhanced their activities for GSH synthesis as well as recycle. Furthermore, GPs lowered the consumption of GSH through decreased accumulation of intracellular peroxides, leading to an increase in the intracellular GSH content. GPs were also found to prevent lipid peroxidation and reduce the influx of Ca2+ which routinely follows glutamate oxidative challenge. GPs treatment significantly blocked glutamate-induced decrease in levels of Bcl-2 and increase in Bax, leading to a decrease in glutamate-induced apoptosis. Thus, we conclude that GPs protect cortical cells by multiple antioxidative actions via enhancing intracellular GSH, suppressing glutamate-induced cytosolic Ca2+ elevation and blocking glutamate-induced apoptosis. Thermal performance is one of the important parameters for tritium breeders in D-T fusion reactor. It has a certain significance to study the effect of irradiation damages on the thermal conductivity for enriching the database. γ-ray irradiation has been adopted due to its presence in the reactor and uniform defect distribution similar to neutron irradiation. The results of XRD and Raman indicate that the samples are damaged by irradiation. The irradiation defects have been studied by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR or ESR). E′-center and Ti3+ are determined as the main defects introduced in irradiated Li 2 TiO 3. The spatial distribution of defects introduced in Li 2 TiO 3 by γ-ray irradiation is uniform calculated by Fluka. The relative concentrations of E′-center, A-centers and Ti3+ have been obtained by EasySpin simulation. The thermal diffusivity at room temperature decreases as irradiation dose increases. However, there is no obvious change in trends for thermal conductivity. For isochronal annealing experiments, it can be found that the thermal conductivity changes by the effects of E′-center and Ti3+. E′-center gradually decreases with the increase of the annealing temperature. The comprehensive analysis of experimental results and EasySpin fitting results has been performed. According to analysis and comparison with other reports, it is indicated that E′-center has negative effects on thermal conductivity, while the presence of Ti3+ plays a major role in enhancing the thermal conductivity. Corrosion resistance and mechanical stability are significantly enhanced on AA5083 substrate by transformation from intrinsically hydrophilic to water-repellent superhydrophobic. • Superhydrophobic AA5083 surface was prepared with anodized porous architecture. • Oxalic acid-based anodisation and fluorosilane self-assembly was utilized. • R ct is enhanced from pristine 7.54 × 103 Ω cm2 to superhydrophobic 8.31 × 108 Ω cm2. • The inhibition efficiency of the fabricated specimen is approximately 99.99%. • The superhydrophobic AA5083 possess mechanically robust and long-term durability. Given the widely usage and corrosion tendency of AA5083, it is crucial and highly desired to transform intrinsically hydrophilic AA5083 to be water-repellent superhydrophobicity. In this paper, we constructed porous anodized AA5083 and achieved superhydrophobicity by fluorosilane self-assembly. The surface topography, roughness and chemical compositions were investigated by SEM, AFM and XPS. The corrosion-resisting behavior was revealed by EIS, demonstrating prominent improvement of corrosion resistance. In addition, the superhydrophobic AA5083 exhibits ultralow adhesion force, excellent self-cleaning and mechanical stability. • Light CaCO 3 promoted efficient pullulan biosynthesis from high-concentration sugar. • Light CaCO 3 enhanced the activities of enzymes involved in pullulan biosynthesis. • Genes of key enzymes relevant to pullulan synthesis were upregulated by light CaCO 3. • The purified pullulan titer was up to 144.3 g/L in the medium containing light CaCO 3. • Light CaCO 3 medium produced pullulan with 27.8% lower production costs. The effects of light calcium carbonate (CaCO 3) on pullulan biosynthesis by Aureobasidium pullulans NCPS2016 were investigated. Light CaCO 3 enhanced pullulan production by 12.4 % when added to the low concentration of fructose broth compared with K 2 HPO 4. Pullulan production was further improved when increasing both the concentrations of light CaCO 3 and fructose. Compared to K 2 HPO 4 , light CaCO 3 improved the activities of UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase, α-phosphoglucose mutase, UDP-glucosyltransferase, and glucosyltransferase relevant to pullulan biosynthesis, and the gene transcriptional levels of UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase, α-phosphoglucose mutase, UDP-glucosyltransferase, and glucose kinase were enhanced. During 30-liter fermentation, 144.3 g/L of purified pullulan was produced from 200 g/L of fructose and 15 g/L of light CaCO 3 within 168 h, with the yield and productivity of 0.72 g/g and 0.86 g/L/h respectively. Abstract: The liver plays a central role in regulating cholesterol homeostasis. High fat diets have been shown to induce obesity and hyperlipidemia. Despite considerable advances in our understanding of cholesterol metabolism, the regulation of liver cholesterol biosynthesis in response to high fat diet feeding has not been fully addressed. The aim of the present study was to investigate mechanisms by which a high fat diet caused activation of liver 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMG-CoA reductase) leading to increased cholesterol biosynthesis. Mice were fed a high fat diet (60% kcal fat) for 5weeks. High fat diet feeding induced weight gain and elevated lipid levels (total cholesterol and triglyceride) in both the liver and serum. Despite cholesterol accumulation in the liver, there was a significant increase in hepatic HMG-CoA reductase mRNA and protein expression as well as enzyme activity. The DNA binding activity of sterol regulatory element binding protein (SREBP)-2 and specific protein 1 (Sp1) were also increased in the liver of mice fed a high fat diet. To validate the in vivo findings, HepG2 cells were treated with palmitic acid. Such a treatment activated SREBP-2 as well as increased the mRNA and enzyme activity of HMG-CoA reductase leading to intracellular cholesterol accumulation. Inhibition of Sp1 by siRNA transfection abolished palmitic acid-induced SREBP-2 and HMG-CoA reductase mRNA expression. These results suggest that Sp1-mediated SREBP-2 activation contributes to high fat diet induced HMG-CoA reductase activation and increased cholesterol biosynthesis. Abstract: The effects of γ-irradiation with different doses (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10kGy) and storage time (0–30 days) on the lipid oxidation of chilled pork and the combined effect of irradiation and antioxidant on the lipid oxidative stability during storage at 4°C were investigated. The results indicated that irradiation treatment increased lipid oxidation, measured as peroxide (PV) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) values. Lipid oxidation was increased with the increase in storage time. Abstract: A series of catalysts composed of WO3, γ-Al2O3 and HY were prepared to study the effects of preparation procedure and tungsten loading on their catalytic performances for the metathesis between ethene and 2-butene to propene. The catalysts are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia (NH3-TPD), temperature-programmed reduction of hydrogen (H2-TPR), N2 adsorption, UV–vis and UV resonance Raman techniques. The results reveal that the catalytic activity is determined by the structure of supported tungsten oxide species. Based on the correlation between the activity and structure of tungsten oxide species, the isolated tetrahedral oxide species are suggested to be the active sites precursors, which exhibit characteristic Raman band at 970cm−1. This paper introduces a technique of preparing core-shell nanofibers on the surface of Q235 carbon steel by electrospinning, which was compounded with organic epoxy resin to form composite coating (PAN-NFs/BTA/EP). The electrospinning process were optimized to obtain the desired uniformly and continuously nanofibers. The composited coating owned better mechanical properties with high tensile strength and good crack-pursuit ability in contrast with pure epoxy resin. The electrochemical impedance of the composite coating/metal system was increased by two orders of magnitude. After salt-spray test, the corrosion degree of the composite coating/metal system with BTA was slighter than that without BTA, which may be attribute to the chelate of BTA with Fe substrate. And the molecular dynamics simulation proved the chelate effect and also verified that BTA had the blocking effect from water erosion. • The fabricated core-shell nanofiber had good dispersity and high uniformity. • The mechanical properties of composited coating were enhanced by nanofibers. • Molecular dynamic models confirmed the barrier performance of healing agent. • The anticorrosive performance of the composite coating was improved. Maintaining or even improving the anti-corrosion performance of coatings while enhancing their mechanical properties is an active research area. Here, polyacrylonitrile nanofibers (PAN-NFs) filled with benzotriazole (BTA) as an inhibitor were created via a coaxial electrospinning technique and directly deposited on a metal surface. The epoxy resin was then covered to form composited coatings. The as-prepared coatings revealed better mechanical properties and high protective ability than unprocessed coatings. The PAN-NFs/BTA system offered long-term sealing function when the coatings were damaged. Molecular dynamic models were then employed to further confirm that the healing agent releasing from the composite coating could prevent Fe substrate from eroding by water molecules.
