Abstract

To analyze the correlation between the K-line-based classification of patients with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) and their outcome after anterior controllable antedisplacement and fusion (ACAF) surgery.A series of 24 patients with multisegmental OPLL were enrolled. All patients underwent ACAF surgery. First, the patients were classified into 2 groups according to their K-line classification. Then, we separated the patients into subgroups according to their OPLL thickness. The Japanese Orthopaedic Association scores before and 6 months after surgery were studied, and the recovery rate (RR) was calculated. The preoperative and postoperative radiologic parameters were also investigated.Clinical and radiographic assessments showed no significant correlation between the K-line-based classification of patients with OPLL and their outcome of ACAF surgery (P0.05). When the OPLL was ≤6 mm thick, K-line-based classification groups had a similar change of occupation ratio and RR (P0.05). However, when the OPLL was6 mm thick, the mean RR was 61.8% ± 14.0% in the K-line (+) group and 78.3% ± 9.7% in the K-line (-) group (P0.05), and the mean was 16.0% ± 4.2% in the K-line (+) group and 28.0% ± 7.1% in the K-line (-) group (P0.05).This study shows that K-line can predict the clinical outcome of ACAF surgery for multisegmental OPLL in a different way from posterior decompression surgery. When the OPLL was thin, the outcome was satisfactory and there was no correlation with K-line-based classification of patients with OPLL. When the OPLL was6 mm thick, the K-line (-) group patients had a better outcome than did K-line (+) group patients.

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the effects of students' perceived school support for creativity and creative self-efficacy on their individual creativity. It further examines the mediation of creative self-efficacy and the moderated mediation of perceived school support for creativity. A survey was conducted over a sample of 720 Design-majored students from universities of science and technology in Taiwan, among which 335 have won awards for their work in creative design (with award-winning experience), and 385 have none (without award-winning experience). The results were analyzed with a path analysis-based moderated mediation analysis to determine whether the hypotheses were supported. Research findings include: (1) students' perceived school support for creativity had significant positive effects on both their creative self-efficacy and individual creativity; (2) perceived school support for creativity affected individual creativity via the mediation of creative self-efficacy; the mediation effects were higher on students with award-winning experiences(s) than on those without; (3) perceived school support for creativity had the effect of moderated mediation between their creative self-efficacy and individual creativity for students with award-winning experience(s); the effect was absent for students without award-winning experience. Based on the above findings, the implications and suggestions are provided for future research.

Abstract

A simple and rapid high-performance liquid chromatography method with electrochemical detection employing boron-doped diamond electrode (BDD) was established for simultaneous determination of eleven bioamines with their precursor amino acids and metabolites, including two precursors (tyrosine and tryptophan), three catecholamines (dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine) and their four metabolites (3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, 3-methoxytyramine, homovanillic acid, and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol), as well as serotonin and its metabolite (5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid), in a single run of 20 min using vanillic acid as internal standard. The separation was performed on an ODS2 column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5.0 μm) with column oven temperature of 30 °C. Quantification was accomplished at an oxidation potential of 700 mV vs Ag/AgCl reference electrode after a range of applied voltages were tested. Several parameters of this new chromatographic method were validated after optimizaton of the analytical conditions. The new method was successfully applied to test cortex and hippocampus samples from Sprague-Dawley rats with good separation. These eleven compounds in cortices and hippocampi were compared, which was used for monitoring their variations in neuroscience research.
