We present the first measurement of the Michel parameters η ‾ and ξκ in the radiative leptonic decay of the τ lepton using 703 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − collider. The Michel parameters are measured by an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the kinematic information of e + e − → τ + τ − → ( π + π 0 ν ‾ ) ( l − ν ν ‾ γ ) ( l = e or μ ) . The preliminary values of the measured Michel parameters are η ‾ = − 2.0 ± 1.5 ± 0.8 and ξ κ = 0.6 ± 0.4 ± 0.2 , where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

We search for lepton-flavor and lepton-number-violating τ decays into a lepton (l= electron or muon) and two charged mesons ( h , h ′ = π ± or K ± ) using 854 fb − 1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We obtain 90% confidence level upper limits on the τ → l h h ′ branching fractions in the range ( 2.0 – 8.4 ) × 10 − 8 . These results improve upon our previously published upper limits by factors of about 1.8 on average.

Accelerated life tests of high-power white light emitting diodes (LEDs) were conducted under an unbiased highly accelerated temperature and humidity test (HAST) and a normal aging test. The conditions in the unbiased HAST were 110 °C-85% RH, 130 °C-85% RH without bias. During the aging, the degradation mechanisms of optical power reduction and degradation of 455 mm blue wavelengths that were better than phosphors related yellow emission bands were observed. The microscopy analysis showed that this effect could be ascribed to the bubbling and discoloration of the silicone encapsulating material of the package. It is thought that these features are also responsible for the optical power reduction and thermal resistance increase.

Characteristics of a plasma reactor for partial oxidation of methane, especially focused on the role and effectiveness of plasma chemistry, is investigated. Partial oxidation of methane is investigated using a rotating gliding arc which is a three dimensional version of a typical gliding arc. The rotating gliding arc has both the characteristics of equilibrium and non-equilibrium plasma. Non-equilibrium characteristics of the rotating gliding arc can be increased by rotating an elongated arc string attached at both the tip of inner electrode and the edge of outer electrode. In this way, plasma chemistry can be enhanced and hydrogen selectivity can reach almost 100% that is much higher than thermal equilibrium condition. Also, the energy required to produce a unit mass of hydrogen (energy cost) is drastically reduced by increased effect of plasma chemistry. As a result, the present study enables the strategic approach of the plasma reforming process by means of through appropriate reactor design to maximize plasma effect and resulting in maximized reaction efficiency.
