Abstract

In this paper, the multi-axial creep behavior of Inconel 783 at 700 °C is studied. The stress triaxiality was introduced for the specimen by adding a circumferential notch with different acuity ratios. In order to study the influence of the notch ratios on creep ductility and damage evolution of Inconel 783, the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN model) is adopted in numerical simulation for investigating the multiaxial failure of the notched bar. Actually, the micro-observation is also employed in explaining the creep failure mechanism. Furthermore, the damage characteristics around the notch were studied by comparing the numerical results with experimental data with various notch acuity ratios. Actually, the creep damage evaluated by the evolution of the effective porosity takes the multiaxial state of stress into account, which is embedded in GTN model. The results indicate that the multiaxial creep ductility and damage calculated by the adopted GTN model are in agreement with the experimental data, and the multiaxial creep behavior is well predicted.

20. Carbon-encapsulated Bi2Te3 derived from metal-organic framework as anode for highly durable lithium and sodium storage

Abstract

Carbon-encapsulated Bi2Te3 (Bi2Te3@C) was successfully synthesized through a MOF-derived two-step facile process. First, Bi(BTC) (DMF)·DMF·(CH3OH)2 (Bi-BTC) was prepared by a solvothermal process and then converted into Bi2Te3@C composite by a simple tellurization reaction. As anode for lithium ion batteries (LIBs), the Bi2Te3@C electrode shows outstanding cycling stability with a specific discharge capacity of 738.5 mAh g−1 at 100 mA g−1 after 500 cycles. Meanwhile, the Bi2Te3@C composite also demonstrates a specific discharge capacity of 236.4 mAh g−1 at 100 mA g−1 after 100 cycles in sodium ion batteries (SIBs). The significant electrochemical performance in LIBs and SIBs is attributed to the nano size of Bi2Te3, which can not only reduce the migration path of electron and ions, but also tolerate the volume variations in the cycle life. Besides, the carbon derived from Bi-BTC can enhance the electrical conductivity of Bi2Te3 nanoparticles and prevent their agglomeration. Electrochemical kinetic analysis of Bi2Te3@C indicates the capacitive contribution accounts for a substantial part for the capacity, which can enhance the rate performance of Bi2Te3@C electrode. This work demonstrates that Bi2Te3@C has a promising application in practical lithium and sodium storage.

Abstract

The Fukushima accident shows that in-vessel retention (IVR) of molten core debris has not been appropriately assessed, and a certain pressure (up to 8.0 MPa) still exists inside the reactor pressure vessel (RPV). In the traditional concept of IVR, the pressure is supposed to successfully be released, and the temperature distributed among the wall thickness is assumed to be uniform. However, this concept is seriously challenged by reality of Fukushima accident with regard to the existence of both internal pressure and high temperature gradient. Therefore, in order to make the IVR mitigation strategy succeed, the numerical investigation of the lower head behavior and its failure has been performed for several internal pressures under high temperature gradient. According to some requirements in severe accident (SA) management of RPV, it should be ensured that the IVR mitigation takes effect in preventing the failure of the structure within a period of 72 h. Subsequently, the failure time and location have to be predicted under the critical heat flux (CHF) loading condition for lower head, since the CHF is limit thermal boundary before the melt-through of RPV. In illustrating the so called ‘multilayer failure mechanism’, the structural behaviors of RPV are analyzed in terms of the stress, creep strain, deformation, damage on selected paths.

Abstract

With environmental issues getting more concerns these days, shipping industries feel obliged to reduce fuel consumption, which at the same time reduce their operational costs with the help of bunkering policy. With bunkering policy embedded in the model, a class of vehicle routing problem with simultaneous pickup and delivery is studied in this paper. A more realistic fuel consumption model is first proposed that not only the cruising speed but also the weight of ships contribute to the fuel consumption rates. A mixed integer programming model is then formulated, deciding routing, scheduling, cruising speed, service quantities and bunkering policy in an integrated manner. An efficient heuristic algorithm is developed to tackle the large scale problems in real practice through exploring and exploiting the idea of “Most Promising Area”. The performance of the algorithm and the benefits of the integrated decision making platform are demonstrated using numerical examples.
