A large clear crystal of potassium nickel sulfate hexahydrate (KNSH) with a dimension of 60 x 35 x 30 mm(3) has been grown by a long stick-shaped seed of 60 x 2 x 2 mm3, in a cooling water solution. The habit and condition of growth were observed. The parameters of crystal structure, transmission spectrometry, and thermal properties are reported. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. According to the crystal symmetry and crystallization habits of the α-NiSO4·6H2O(α-NSH) crystals, cylindrical shaped α-NSH single crystals with a diameter of 30–40 mm and length of 40 mm have been grown by directional crystallization from a cooling solution. The measurements of X-ray diffraction and transmission spectrum have shown that the grown single crystal belongs to the tetragonal system with the space group of P41212, and it has excellent optical properties.

We have characterized the properties of the phase-matching conditions of the organic nonlinear crystal meta-nitroaniline (m-NA) for second harmonic generation (SHG) and sum-frequency-mixing (SFM). The optical phase-matching conditions are measured and compared with the calculated values at the various laser wavelengths of 1064 and 1319 nm.
