Normal ECG standards in newborns, infants, children and adolescents have been collected and published by many authors. Only those by Davignon et al., Rijinbeek et al. and our two studies covered all ages from birth to adolescence. The standards reflecting the growth and development of the heart in infants, children and adolescents remained to be studied and explored.We selected from our ECG database, after discussions and consultation, 15 key ECG parameters and analyzed for their age- and sex-specific mean, standard deviation and 2nd to 98th percentiles and their percentile charts were constructed.The ranges and distributions of the normal ECG standards, means and 2nd to 98th percentiles of 15 key parameters were established.A complete set of normal ECG standards of 15 key parameters from birth to adolescents is available for clinicians and researchers.

We study the relation between the Galois group $G$ of a linear difference-differential system and two classes $\mathcal{C}_1$ and $\mathcal{C}_2$ of groups that are the Galois groups of the specializations of the linear difference equation and the linear differential equation in this system respectively. We show that almost all groups in $\mathcal{C}_1\cup \mathcal{C}_2$ are algebraic subgroups of $G$, and there is a nonempty subset of $\mathcal{C}_1$ and a nonempty subset of $\mathcal{C}_2$ such that $G$ is the product of any pair of groups from these two subsets. These results have potential application to the computation of the Galois group of a linear difference-differential system. Highly repetitive sequences play a major structural and function role in the genome. In the present study, we developed Cas9-assisted cloning and SMRT sequencing of long repetitive sequences (CACS) to sequence and manipulate highly repetitive genes from eukaryotic genomes. CACS combined Cas9-mediated cleavage of a target segment from an intact genome, Gibson assembly cloning, and PacBio SMRT sequencing. Applying CACS, we directly cloned and sequenced the complete sequences of fibroin heavy chain (FibH) genes from 17 domesticated (Bombyx mori) and 7 wild (Bombyx mandarina) silkworms. Our analysis revealed the unique fine structure organization, genetic variations, and domestication dynamics of FibH. We also demonstrated that the length of the repetitive regions determined the mechanical properties of silk fiber, which was further confirmed by Cas9 editing of FibH. CACS is a simple, robust, and efficient approach, providing affordable accessibility to highly repetitive regions of a genome. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Silkworm silk is the earliest and most widely used animal fiber, and its excellent performance mainly depends on the fibroin heavy chain (FibH) protein. The FibH gene is the main breakthrough in understanding the formation mechanism and improvement of silk fiber. In the study, we developed a CACS method for characterizing the fine structure and domestication landscape of 24 silkworm FibH genes. We used CRISPR/Cas9 to edit the repetitive sequence of FibH genes, revealing the relationship between FibH genes and mechanical properties of silkworm silk. Our study is helpful in modifying silk genes to manipulate other valuable highly repetitive sequences, and provides insight for silkworm breeding.

The Ru-catalyzed carbonylation of alkenes with CO2 as a C1 surrogate and imidazole chlorides as the promotor is investigated by a combination of computational and experimental study. The conversion rate of CO2 to CO is positively correlated with the efficiency of both hydroesterification and hydroformylation, which is found facilitated in the presence of chloride additives with a decreasing order of BmimCl ∼ B3MimCl > BmmimCl ∼ LiCl. Taking the hydroesterification with MeOH as a representative example, BmimCl bearing C–H functionality at the C2 site of the cation assists the reduction of CO2 to CO as a hydrogen donor medium, with the anion and cation acting in a synergistic fashion. Subsequent insertion of CO2 into the formed Ru–H bond with the assistance of chloride anion produces the Ru–COOH species, which ultimately accelerates the activation of CO2.

There has been a remarkable increase in the number of pediatric ventricular assist device (VAD) implanted over the past decade. Asian pediatric heart centers had not participated in the multicenter registries among the Western countries. This article aimed to report the outcomes of pediatric VAD in our hospital.The study enrolled all patients aged18 years at the time of VAD implantation in our institution between 2008 and 2021.There were 33 patients with diagnosis of acute fulminant myocarditis (n = 9), congenital heart disease (n = 5), dilated cardiomyopathy (n = 16), and others. Paracorporeal continuous-flow pump was the most frequently implanted (n = 27). Most of the devices were implanted in patients with INTERMACS profile 1 (n = 24). The median duration on VAD was 22 days (range 2-254). The proportion of patients attaining positive outcomes (alive on device, bridge to transplantation or recovery) was 72.7% at 1 month, 67.7% at 3 months, and 67.7% at 6 months. Most of the deaths on device occurred within the first month post-implant (n = 9), with neurological complications being the most frequent cause of death. All recovered cases were successfully weaned off the device within the first month of implantation.We demonstrated a favorable outcome in pediatric patients supported with VAD at our institution.

Tripartite motif (TRIM) proteins comprise a large family of RING-type ubiquitin E3 ligases that regulate important biological processes. In this study, full-length MnTRIM32 cDNA was obtained from oriental river prawn Macrobrachium nipponense, and eight MnTRIM32 isoforms generated by alternative splicing were identified. The open reading frames of the eight MnTRIM32 isoforms were predicted to be separately composed of 402, 346, 347, 346, 414, 358, 359, and 358 amino acid residues. Protein structural analysis revealed that all MnTRIM32 isoforms contained a RING domain and a coiled coil region. MnTRIM32 was ubiquitously expressed in all tissues tested, with the highest expression in the hepatopancreas. The mRNA levels of MnTRIM32 in the gills, stomach, and intestine of prawns were found to undergo time-dependent enhancement following white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) stimulation. Double-stranded RNA interference studies revealed that MnTRIM32 silencing significantly downregulated the expression levels of interferon (IFN) regulatory factor MnIRF, IFN-like factor MnVago4, and tumor necrosis factor MnTNF. Furthermore, knockdown of MnTRIM32 in WSSV-challenged prawns increased the expression of VP28 and the number of WSSV copies, suggesting that MnTRIM32 plays a positive role in limiting WSSV infection. These findings provided strong evidence for the important role of MnTRIM32 in the antiviral innate immunity of M. nipponense.

Tuberculosis recurrence after an initial successful treatment episode can occur from either reinfection or relapse. In a population-based sample and whole genome sequencing in eastern China, we aimed to evaluate risk factors for tuberculosis recurrence and assess the proportion of recurrence because of either reinfection or relapse.Successfully treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients with sputum culture positive results were recruited from five cities in Jiangsu Province from 2013 to 2015 and followed for 2 years for tuberculosis recurrence. Among patients developing a second tuberculosis episode, whole genome sequencing was performed to distinguish relapse or reinfection through a distance threshold of 6-single-nucleotide polymorphisms. We analyzed risk factors for recurrence and epidemiological characteristics of different types of recurrent patients.Of 1897 successfully treated tuberculosis patients, 7.4% (141/1879) developed recurrent tuberculosis. Compared with nonrecurrent tuberculosis, patients were at higher risk of recurrence in older age (adjusted odds ratio, 1.02 for each additional year; 95% CI, 1.01 to 1.03, p = 0.003), patients previously treated for tuberculosis (adjusted odds ratio = 2.22; 95% CI, 1.52 to 3.26, p 0.001), or with bilateral cavities (adjusted odds ratio, 1.56; 95% CI, 1.05 to 2.32, p = 0.029). Among 27.0% (38/141) recurrent tuberculosis patients with successfully sequenced pairs, relapse was substantially more common than reinfection (71.1% vs 28.9%, p = 0.014).Endogenous relapse was significantly more common than exogenous reinfection in the first 2 years after treatment in eastern China. Prioritization of high-risk groups for recurrence, such as the elderly, with a previous tuberculosis diagnosis, or with bilateral cavities, may provide opportunities to reduce post-tuberculosis morbidity.
