Although subjective age has been shown to play an important role in older adults' experiences of depressive symptoms, the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship have not been adequately examined. The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role perceived control plays between subjective age and depressive symptoms, as well as the moderating role self-perceptions of aging plays in this indirect relationship. To examine this, a cross-sectional study was conducted with 609 Chinese older adults, who completed measures of subjective age, perceived control, self-perceptions of aging, and depressive symptoms. The results indicated that: (1) possessing a younger subjective age is significantly associated with less depressive symptoms; (2) perceived control partially mediates the relationship between subjective age and depressive symptoms; and (3) the indirect effect of subjective age on depressive symptoms, through perceived control, is moderated by self-perceptions of aging, while the mediated path is stronger for older adults with less favorable self-perceptions of aging. The findings underscore the importance of identifying the mechanisms that moderate the mediated paths between subjective age and depressive symptoms.

This paper, based on Bihan and Sottile’s method which reduces a polynomial system to its Gale dual system and then bounds the number of solutions of this Gale system, proves that a real coefficient polynomial system with n equations and with n variables involving n + k + 1 monomials has fewer than 27 e 5 3 + 88 90 ∏ i = 0 k − 1 ( 2 i ( n − 1 ) + 1 ) positive solutions and 27 e 10 3 + 88 90 ∏ i = 0 k − 1 ( 2 i ( n − 1 ) + 1 ) non-degenerate non-zero real solutions. This dramatically improves F. Bihan and F. Sottile’s bounds of e 2 + 3 4 2 k 2 n k and e 4 + 3 4 2 k 2 n k respectively. Using the new upper bound for positive solutions, we establish restrictions to the sum of the Betti numbers of real piecewise algebraic hypersurfaces and real piecewise algebraic curves. A new bound on the number of compact components of algebraic hypersurfaces in R > n is also given.

To investigate the concentration of CX3CL1 in serum of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and to evaluate the associations between the CX3CL1 level and systemic inflammation, small airway obstruction, and COPD assessment test (CAT) scores in COPD patients.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were utilized to detect the CX3CL1 protein in serum separately from 64 patients with COPD and 53 healthy controls.Compared with healthy non-smokers, healthy smokers and COPD non-smokers, serum CX3CL1 protein levels were significantly elevated in COPD smokers (258.33 ± 56.27 pg/mL versus 177.32 ± 43.21 pg/mL, 185.64 ± 47.03 pg/mL, and 226.55 ± 51.79 pg/mL, P 0.05). Correlation analysis indicated that serum CX3CL1 in COPD smokers was negatively correlated with FEVThe results demonstrated that elevated circulating CX3CL1 level is associated with the systemic inflammation, small airway obstruction, and CAT scores in COPD patients, suggesting that CX3CL1 may play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of COPD. Blocking CX3CL1 might prevent the progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Natural clay-supported iron oxide was prepared by deposition method, and dried at 120 °C. It was found that under visible light in the presence of H2O2, this catalyst was highly active for degradation of cationic (malachite and fuchsin basic) and anionic dyes (orange II and X3B) in water at pH 6.5, as compared with bare iron oxide or the clay-supported iron oxide sintered at 350 °C. The excellent performance of the catalyst is correlated with its high sorption capacity toward both types of dyes, thus resulting in enhanced dye degradation via a photosensitization pathway. The catalyst was characterized by XRD, nitrogen adsorption, infrared, and UV–visible spectroscopy.

Ultrafine ZnM 2 O 4 (M = Fe, Co, Cr) powders have been successfully fabricated by using a novel polyoxyethylene lauryl ether + n -hexanol/ n -heptance/water (zinc nitrate + ferrum nitrate or cobalt nitrate or chromium nitrate) W/O microemulsion method. The composition and the structure of the powers have been investigated by means of XRD and TEM. The results show the as-received ZnM 2 O 4 have spinel-type structure and the every size of the spherical particles are below 60 nm with good dispersity. The influence of temperature on the sensitivities, selectivities, and the response and recovery characteristics are tested. The results of gas sensing measurement show the ZnFe 2 O 4 sensors have a high sensitivity, excellent selectivity and quick response behavior to Cl 2 gas compared with ZnCo 2 O 4 and ZnCr 2 O 4 sensors. The response of ZnFe 2 O 4 to Cl 2 gas shows the resistance increase that indicates an n-type semiconductor behavior while ZnCo 2 O 4 and ZnCr 2 O 4 have p-type semiconductor characteristic.

Nanometer materials of rare earth mixed oxides REFeO3 (RE=Eu, Gd) with the structure of perovskite type were synthesized by sol–gel method in the citric acid system. The structure and crystal phase of the powders were characterized on an X-ray diffractometer. The shape and size were analyzed with the help of JEM-100X Transmission electron microscopy. The results show that the morphologies of the two perovskite-type oxides are spherical with the mean grain size of 20 and 21 nm, respectively. Their crystal structures show a certain amount of lattice distortion due to the decrease of grain size and the increase of surface area. Gas sensitivities of these two kinds of materials to C2H5OH, H2S, gasoline and H2 were tested. The studies of gas-sensing characteristics show the sensitivities of EuFeO3 and GdFeO3 nanometer materials to gasoline are 39 and 45 at 340 °C, respectively, and both of them have appropriate selectivity. So they are promising candidates for the detection of gasoline in monitoring environment.
