A 15-year-old neutered male miniature pinscher was presented with a pedunculated mass (4 × 1 cm) in its urinary bladder. Exploratory cystotomy revealed that the mass was located at the trigone of the bladder and projected into the lumen. The cut surface of the mass was homogeneous grey to tan in colour with focal brown pigmentation. Microscopically, the mass was predominantly composed of neoplastic spindle cells characterized by moderate cellular pleomorphism, invasion into the muscular layer of the bladder wall and few mitotic figures. The neoplastic spindle cells formed interwoven bundles intersecting at various angles. Immunohistochemically, these cells were negative for cytokeratin 7 and α-smooth muscle actin, but strongly expressed S100 and vimentin, confirming a diagnosis of a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour (PNST). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a primary malignant PNST in the urinary bladder of a dog.

Ce 3d-4f resonant angle-resolved photoemission measurements on CeCoGe$_{1.2}$Si$_{0.8}$ and CeCoSi$_{2}$ have been performed to understand the Fermi surface topology as a function of hybridization strength between Ce 4$f$- and conduction electrons in heavy-fermion systems. We directly observe that the hole-like Ce 4$f$-Fermi surfaces of CeCoSi$_{2}$ is smaller than that of CeCoGe$_{1.2}$Si$_{0.8}$, indicating the evolution of the Ce 4$f$-Fermi surface with the increase of the hybridization strength. In comparision with LDA calculation, the Fermi surface variation cannot be understood even though the overall electronic structure are roughly explained, indicating the importance of strong correlation effects. We consider conservation laws with source terms in a bounded domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We first prove the existence of a strong trace at the boundary in order to provide a simple formulation of the entropy boundary condition. Equipped with this formulation, we go on to establish the well-posedness of entropy solutions to the initial-boundary value problem. The proof utilizes the kinetic formulation and the compensated compactness method. Finally, we make use of these results to demonstrate the well-posedness in a class of discontinuous solutions to the initial-boundary value problem for the Degasperis-Procesi shallow water equation, which is a third order nonlinear dispersive equation that can be rewritten in the form of a nonlinear conservation law with a nonlocal source term., 24 pages

Median graphs are a natural generalisation of trees and hypercubes that are closely related to distributive lattices and graph retracts. In the past decade, they have become of increasing interest to the biological community, where, amongst other things, they are applied to the study of evolutionary relationships within populations.Two simple measures of complexity for a median graph are the number of vertices and the number of maximal induced subcubes. These numbers can be useful in biological applications, and they are also of purely mathematical interest. However, they can be hard to compute in general. Here we present some special families of median graphs where it is possible to find formulae and recursions for these numbers.

In this paper, accident data collected from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch are presented and an analysis is carried out to determine the most common causes of accidents on fishing vessels. Discussions on fishing vessel-safety assessment and data problems are given.

We performed temperature-dependent bulk-sensitive resonant photoemission spectroscopy and Ce M 4,5 X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) of CeSi 2 . The XAS data clearly show the increase of the f-level occupancy number n f as the temperature is raised, which is consistent with the non-crossing approximation calculation in the Kondo scenario. In addition, the bulk-sensitive resonant photoemission of the 4f spectral weights shows that the height of the Kondo resonance at the Fermi level relative to that of the f 1 →f 0 emission peak is reduced as the temperature is raised. The Gunnarsson-Schonhammer calculation fit gives generally good agreement with the valence band spectra, and the n f values derived from the fit shows the same temperature dependence as predicted by the Kondo scenario.

Microarray-based DNA chips provide architecture for multi-analyte sensing. In this paper, we report a new method in which minute particles are arranged in a random fashion on a chip pattern using random fluidic self-assembly (RFSA) method by hydrophobic interaction. We intend to improve the stability of the particles at the time of arrangement by establishing a wall on the chip pattern. Besides, distinction of an individual particle is enabled by giving a tag structure. This approach can be applicable as a new fabrication technology to develop a minute integration DNA chip microarray.

We investigated the monolayer behavior at the air-water interface with metal solution. the surface morphologies and the electrical properties such as conductivity and dielectric constant. The calculated conductivity a values of pure water subphase and its complexes with Li + ions are 5.6×10 -16 and 1.9×10 -14 [S/cm], respectively, And the calculated barrier height ψ D values of pure water subphase and its complexes with Li + ions are 0.70 and 0.66 [eV], respectively. The difference of monolayer characteristics between the pure water and the metal-ion is attributed to the interactions of the polymers with metal-ions at the air-water interface and the consequent change of the monolayer organization.
