Three-dimensional (3D) conductive frameworks have been studied extensively in lithium (Li) metal anodes for their good electronic conductivities and superior structural integrity. In this work, we demonstrated a carbon fiber cloth (CFC) framework coated with SnO2 nanoparticles through a hydrothermal process combined with a carbonization method, which served as a reliable host for pouring molten Li to produce a CFC@SnO2@Li composite anode with dendritic suppression and long-life cycling performances. XRD, TEM, HRTEM, XPS and different electrochemical characterizations were carried out. Compared with the routine bare Li||LiFePO4 cells, the CFC@SnO2@Li||LiFePO4 cells had a strong specific ability, excellent rate performance, and stability for a long time, which confirm its great potential as lithium metal anodes in practical battery applications.

Deep neural networks have achieved great success in solving many machine learning and computer vision problems. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network called the Tucker network derived from the Tucker format and analyze its expressive power. The results demonstrate that the Tucker network has exponentially higher expressive power than the shallow network. In other words, a shallow network with an exponential width is required to realize the same score function as that computed by the Tucker network. Moreover, we discuss the expressive power between the hierarchical Tucker tensor network (HT network) and the proposed Tucker network. To generalize the Tucker network into a deep version, we combine the hierarchical Tucker format and Tucker format to propose a deep Tucker tensor decomposition. Its corresponding deep Tucker network is presented. Experiments are conducted on three datasets: MNIST, CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100. The results experimentally validate the theoretical results and show that the Tucker network and deep Tucker network have better performance than the shallow network and HT network.

Analysis of reservoir sensitivity to velocity, water, salt, acid, alkali and stress is critical for reservoir protection. To study the tight sandstone reservoir sensitivity at different formation depths (effective stress) and formation water conditions (pH, salinity, and fluid velocity), a series of dynamic core flow tests under different pH, salinity, acid, and effective stress conditions were performed on samples from tight sandstone reservoirs of the Upper Triassic Yanchang 8 (T3y8) Member and conventional reservoirs of the Middle-Lower Jurassic Yan'an 9 (J1-2y9) Member in the Ordos Basin. The results indicate that, compared with the conventional reservoirs, the tight sandstone reservoirs are more sensitive to velocity and stress, less sensitive to water, alkali and salinity, and respond better to acid fracturing. In addition, the critical conditions (salinity, velocity, pH, and stress) for pumping drilling, completion, and fracturing fluids into tight sandstone reservoirs were investigated. A combination of scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS), cathodoluminescence (CL), casting thin section (CTS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) images, high-pressure mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) measurements as well as X-ray fluorescence spectral (XRF) analyses were employed to analyze the damage mechanisms of the conventional reservoirs (J1-2y9) and tight sandstone reservoirs (T3y8) caused by fluid invasion. The results suggest that reservoir sensitivity is primarily conditioned by the composition of detrital components and interstitial fillings, petrophysical properties, pore-throat structure, and diagenetic facies. All these factors control the sensitivity types and extent of the reservoirs. Our results indicate that the poorer the reservoir physical properties, the stronger the reservoir heterogeneity and sensitivity, implying that tight sandstone reservoirs are more susceptible to changes in fluids than conventional reservoirs. This study offers insights into the reservoir damage types and helps to improve the design and implementation of protection measures for tight sandstone reservoir exploration.

Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and its regulation play an important role in eliminating faulty transcripts and controlling gene expression. However, measuring NMD activity and characterizing its targets remain challenging. In this study, we set out to establish Nanopore direct RNA sequencing in combination with quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) as a method for analyzing NMD activity and its targets in cultured cell lines and clinical tissue samples. Nanopore RNA sequencing could detect more isoforms than short-read sequencing, especially in identifying novel isoforms and predicting isoforms annotated with premature termination codon (PTC). Changes in transcriptional isoforms of five genes (PRS, RPL12, SRSF2, PPIA, and TMEM208) could faithfully reflect NMD activity in the three cell lines and prostate cancer (PCA) samples. NMD activity in PCA samples varied, but some patients showed an increased trend. Together, Nanopore sequencing was superior in identifying NMD targets and evaluating NMD activity compared with short-read sequencing, and the NMD markers we screened may be used for measuring NMD activity in clinical patients.

Recent studies in non-human primates administered recombinant adeno-associated viruses (rAAVs) have shown lesions in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) of unknown pathogenesis. In this study, rAAV9s manufactured using different purification methods alongside a non-expressing Null AAV9 vector was administered to groups of cynomolgus monkeys followed by neuropathological evaluation after 4 weeks. Lesions, including neuronal degeneration, increased cellularity, and nerve fiber degeneration, were observed in the DRG, regardless of purification methods. Animals did not develop any neurological signs throughout the study, and there was no loss of function observed in neuro-electrophysiological endpoints or clear effects on intraepidermal nerve fiber density. However, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of animals with axonopathy showed an increase in short tau inversion recovery (STIR) intensity and decrease in fractional anisotropy. In animals administered the Null AAV9 vector, DRG lesions were not observed despite vector DNA being detected in the DRG at levels equivalent to or greater than rAAV9-treated animals. This study further supports that DRG toxicity is associated with transgene overexpression in DRGs, with particular sensitivity at the lumbar and lumbosacral level. The data from this study also showed that the nerve fiber degeneration did not correlate with any functional effect on nerve conduction but was detectable by MRI.

The cellular environment is highly crowded with most proteins and RNA/DNA forming homomeric and heteromeric complexes. Essential questions regarding how these complexes switch between functional, rest, and abnormal states with regulators or modifications remain challenging and complicated. Here, we review the recent progress integrating cryoelectron microscopy and multiscale molecular modeling to understand the dynamics and function-related mechanism in protein-RNA/DNA complexes, protein-protein complexes/assemblies, and membrane protein complexes. One future direction of multiscale simulations will be to interpret the large complex multibody regulation in assembly-induced function enhancement in conjunction with advanced atomic resolution structural-biology techniques and specialized computing architectures.

Improving piezoelectric performance is always favorable to further enhance the sensitivity and accuracy of piezoelectric devices. Here, a complex piezoelectric system of Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Yb1/2Nb1/2)O3-Pb(Hf0.1Ti0.9)O3 is designed and investigated in detail. Optimized piezoelectric response of ∼ 880 pC/N is achieved at the composition of 0.51PNN-0.09PYN-0.40PHT. The characterization of TEM and In-situ high-energy synchrotron diffraction indicate that nanodomain growth and microdomain switching occurs in succession at around coercive electric field. Most interestingly, the coexisted tetragonal and rhombohedral-like phase transforms into multiple monoclinic-like phases with polarization vectors aligned as close to the electric field direction as possible under the strong electric field. The enhanced polarization instability in this complex morphotropic phase boundary sample should be ascribed to the strong local heterogeneity. The novel polarization rotation behavior found in this work would be important guidance for designing high-performance piezoceramics.
