Careful patient selection is a key factor in optimizing the use of device-assisted enteroscopy (DAE) in Crohn's disease (CD). Current technologies include double-balloon enteroscopy and single-balloon enteroscopy which have similar efficiency and safety. DAE allows a variety of therapeutic interventions in the small bowel (SB). These include dilation of SB strictures which achieves promising results and should be preferred to surgery that can still be performed in the event of failure. Technological advances for visualizing the small bowel have significantly grown over the past few decades. Balloon-assisted enteroscopy has come to the forefront of these innovations, and has been found to be safe and effective in children with small bowel ailments.
