Aim: To present a bibliometric overview of pedagogical research from Nurse Education in Practice from its inception in 2001 up until 2023., Background: Bibliometric methods are useful in analysing and understanding the characteristics of scientific publications in a particular field and the influence of specific journals. However, no bibliometric analysis of a nurse education journal has been undertaken to date which would highlight important research trends in this area of nursing and midwifery., Methods: A total of 2231 publications (articles and reviews only) from Nursing Education in Practice were retrieved from the Scopus database between 2001 and 2023. Several software applications including Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer were used to undertake bibliometric analysis on this dataset. Publication trends such as country analysis, author analysis, keywords analyses (cluster, content and trend analysis) were generated to help understand the volume and scope of pedagogical nursing and midwifery research in this journal., Results: There has been a steady increase in pedagogical research from Nurse Education in Practice since its launch in 2001 up until 2018, with a dip in publications in 2022 most likely due to the impact of restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic. The most prolific institutions publishing in the journal are mainly from the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States, with over eighty countries represented demonstrating its global reach and impact. Nursing students, nursing education, simulation and learning are some of the most frequent author keywords., Conclusion: The diversity of pedagogies in nursing and midwifery education, clinical learning and supervision in practice environments, and competence and confidence when transitioning to practice are the most popular research areas in Nurse Education in Practice. This study informs nurse and midwife educators and scholars about the volume and scope of pedagogical research in nursing and midwifery. Background: Daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is effective in preventing HIV infection, but no study has evaluated combination prevention interventions with PrEP for transgender women (TGW) and men who have sex with men (MSM) who sell sex., Methods: The Combination Prevention Effectiveness (COPE) study was a community-based, non-randomized implementation study in Bangkok and Pattaya, Thailand. Participants were HIV-negative MSM and TGW aged 18-26 years who reported exchanging sex with men in the prior 12 months and who met 2014 U.S. Public Health Service PrEP eligibility criteria. The intervention included quarterly HIV testing, semiannual testing for sexually transmitted infections, provision of condoms with lubricant, and the opportunity to initiate or end daily oral PrEP use at any time during study participation. Participants taking PrEP received monthly adherence counseling and short message service reminders. The primary outcome was HIV incidence rate ratio (IRR) on PrEP vs. not on PrEP. Secondary outcomes were PrEP initiation, PrEP use at 12 months, and PrEP adherence., Findings: From October 2017 to August 2019, 846 participants were enrolled: 531 (62.8%) immediately initiated PrEP; 104 (12.3%) subsequently initiated PrEP, and 211 (24.9%) never initiated PrEP. Among those initiating PrEP within 30 days of enrollment; 85.9% were on PrEP at the 12-months. When taking PrEP, participants reported adherent PrEP use at 94.2% of quarterly assessments. Ten HIV seroconversions occurred without PrEP use (incidence rate [IR] = 3.42 per 100 person-years [PY]; 95% CI = 1.64-6.30), while zero cases occurred with PrEP use (IR = 0.0 per 100PY; 95% CI = 0.0-0.62), with IRR = 0.0 (95% CI = 0.0-0.22; p < 0.001)., Interpretation: Young Thai MSM and TGW who exchange sex can have high PrEP uptake, persistence and adherence, and low HIV incidence when offered in supportive community-based settings., Funding: U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention., Competing Interests: The study was supported by an R01 from NIAID, NIH (1R01AI118505-01A1) and the CDC Division of HIV Prevention. Aims /objectives: To identify and synthesise theories that support the design and delivery of digital learning interventions in nursing and midwifery education., Background: A range of educational and other theories are used to support nursing and midwifery education, including when e-learning interventions are being designed and delivered. However, there is a limited understanding of how theory is applied across the wide range of digital learning interventions to inform pedagogical research and practice., Design: A systematic review., Methods: CINAHL, ERIC, MEDLINE and PubMed were searched using key terms. Studies were screened by independent reviewers checking the title, abstract and full text against eligibility criteria. Due to the theoretical focus of the review, critical appraisal was not undertaken. Data were extracted and synthesised using a descriptive approach., Results: Thirty-four studies were included. Twenty theories were identified from a range of scientific disciplines, with the Technology Acceptance Model and Theory of Self-Efficacy employed most often. Theoretical frameworks were used to inform and explain how the digital learning interventions were designed or implemented in nursing and midwifery education. The sample were mainly undergraduate nursing students and the digital learning interventions encompassed animation, blended approaches, general technologies, mobile, online, virtual simulation and virtual reality applications which were used mainly in university settings., Conclusions: This systematic review found a range of theories that support the design and delivery on digital learning interventions in nursing and midwifery education. While a single theory, the Technology Acceptance Model, tended to dominate the literature, the evidence base is peppered with numerous theoretical models that need to be examined more rigorously to ascertain their utility in improving the design or implementation of digital forms of learning to improve pedagogical research and practice in nursing and midwifery., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest The authors have no conflicts of interest to declare., (Copyright © 2023 The Authors. Background: Existing literature points to higher rates of trauma disorders for forced migrants than general or immigrant populations. The process of identification and screening for trauma in this population however is not straightforward and is actually controversial in some circles. Furthermore there are no definitive guidelines for mental health and social service providers on the "when" "who", "what" "why", "where", and "how" of trauma screening., Objectives: Importantly, few studies have included insights into the screening process from service providers and forced migrants themselves through participatory research methods. This study investigates effective screening processes for trauma and examines benefits and pitfalls of current practices from the perspectives of both migrants themselves as well as health service providers that serve them., Design: We used a qualitative approach to identify and analyze key themes from focus group interviews with key informants (service providers and trauma experts providing social and medical services in the community) and forced migrants (from Cameroon, Ethiopia, Honduras, and Tanzania)., Results: Our results comprise forced migrant definitions of and approaches to coping with trauma, reservations about engaging with providers, positive experiences with and impacts of screening, limitations and negative aspects of screening, helpful screening practices, and effective tools and questions for screening., Conclusions: Drawing on these themes, we offer recommendations that may help inform future screening approaches and trauma-informed service provision. Introduction: The progression of complications of type 2 diabetes (T2D) is unique to each patient and can be depicted through individual temporal trajectories. Latent growth modeling approaches (latent growth mixture models [LGMM] or latent class growth analysis [LCGA]) can be used to classify similar individual trajectories in a priori non-observed groups (latent groups), sharing common characteristics. Although increasingly used in the field of T2D, many questions remain regarding the utilization of these methods., Objective: To review the literature of longitudinal studies using latent growth modeling approaches to study T2D., Methods: MEDLINE (Ovid), EMBASE, CINAHL and Wb of Science were searched through August 25 th , 2021. Data was collected on the type of latent growth modeling approaches (LGMM or LCGA), characteristics of studies and quality of reporting using the GRoLTS-Checklist and presented as frequencies., Results: From the 4,694 citations screened, a total of 38 studies were included. The studies were published beetween 2011 and 2021 and the length of follow-up ranged from 8 weeks to 14 years. Six studies used LGMM, while 32 studies used LCGA. The fields of research varied from clinical research, psychological science, healthcare utilization research and drug usage/pharmaco-epidemiology. Data sources included primary data (clinical trials, prospective/retrospective cohorts, surveys), or secondary data (health records/registries, medico-administrative). Fifty percent of studies evaluated trajectory groups as exposures for a subsequent clinical outcome, while 24% used predictive models of group membership and 5% used both. Regarding the quality of reporting, trajectory groups were adequately presented, however many studies failed to report important decisions made for the trajectory group identification., Conclusion: Although LCGA were preferred, the contexts of utilization were diverse and unrelated to the type of methods. A gap in informatics expertise amongst nursing students, practising staff and faculty has been noted globally, which reduces the potential for nurses to utilise technology to enhance patient care. National nursing education strategies and recommendations from professional associations have identified digital health as an area that needs investment. This case study describes how health informatics is being integrated into a Bachelor of Nursing programme in the United Kingdom. An international collaboration with a US-UK Fulbright Specialist Scholar enabled individual learning units corresponding to key health informatics competencies to be designed and incorporated into a pedagogic framework grounded in the spiral learning approach. This approach is proposed as one way to integrate informatics into nursing education, so students can become competent clinicians that are able to deliver technology enabled care in the health service., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Background: Although considered a motor disorder, adult onset isolated focal dystonia has many non-motor symptoms. There is a paucity of neuropsychological research on cognitive processing in adult onset focal dystonia., Methods: We employed a battery of clinical and cognitive assessments, including basic and complex social cognition, and assessed 46 patients with adult-onset cervical dystonia, compared to 46 age-, sex-, education-, and premorbid IQ-matched healthy controls., Results: Significant between-group differences were observed in relation to measures of memory encoding, recall and recognition, as well as multimodal measures of basic Social Cognition (emotion recognition: face and prosody), but not complex Social Cognition (mentalising). There were no deficits observed in multimodal measures of executive function. Controlling for mood did not affect performance., Conclusion: In this multi-dimensional assessment of cognition in cervical dystonia, we report deficits in memory encoding, and in social cognition. Further investigation of social cognitive processes, memory, and sustained attention are required. Podcasting is used in higher education so various digital resources can be shared with students. This review aims to synthesise evidence on podcasting in nursing and midwifery education. PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus and ERIC databases were searched using key terms. 242 articles were found and screened. Data extraction, quality assessment and data analysis, underpinned by a Social Media Learning Model, were conducted on relevant studies. Twenty-six studies were included in the review. Three themes emerged; 1) learning and other outcomes, 2) antecedents to learning, and 3) learning process. Students seemed to acquire new knowledge and skills by using podcasts and it also appeared to improve clinical confidence. The organisation of podcasting, digital literacy and e-Professionalism, the personal motivation of learners, and flexible access to the technology seemed to impact the delivery of this educational intervention. Mechanisms that appeared to affect the learning process were the speed of exchange, the type of social media user, the timeframe, quality of information, the functionality of podcasts and other learning activities. This review synthesised evidence on podcasting in nursing and midwifery education. Background: The Myeloma X trial previously reported improved durability of response (time to disease progression) in patients with relapsed multiple myeloma with salvage autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT) compared with oral cyclophosphamide in patients with multiple myeloma relapsing after a first ASCT. We report the final overall survival results of the trial., Methods: BSBMT/UKMF Myeloma X was a multicentre, randomised, open-label, phase 3 trial done at 51 centres in the UK. Eligible patients with multiple myeloma relapsing after a previous ASCT were re-induced with intravenous bortezomib (1·3 mg/m(2) on days 1, 4, 8, 11), intravenous doxorubicin (9 mg/m(2) per day on days 1-4), and oral dexamethasone (40 mg/day on days 1-4, 8-11, and 15-18 during cycle 1 and days 1-4 during cycles 2-4), with supportive care as per local institutional protocols before randomisation in a 1:1 ratio to either high-dose melphalan (200 mg/m(2)) and salvage ASCT or weekly oral cyclophosphamide (400 mg/m(2) per week for 12 weeks). Randomisation was by permuted blocks stratified by length of first remission and response to re-induction treatment. The primary endpoint was time to disease progression; the study was also powered to detect a difference in the secondary endpoint, overall survival. Further secondary endpoints were the proportion of patients achieving an objective response, progression-free survival, overall survival, toxic effects and safety, pain, and quality of life. Prespecified exploratory endpoints included time to second objective disease progression (PFS2). Analysis was by intention to treat. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT00747877, and the European Clinical Trials Database, number 2006-005890-24, and is now in long-term follow-up., Findings: Between April 16, 2008, and Nov 19, 2012, 297 patients were registered into the study and 174 were randomly assigned to receive either high-dose melphalan and salvage ASCT (n=89) or oral weekly cyclophosphamide (n=85). 173 (58%) of 297 patients relapsed after more than 24 months from first ASCT. 75 (43%) of 174 randomised patients had died at follow-up: salvage ASCT (n=31 [35%]) versus oral weekly cyclophosphamide (n=44 [52%]). Updated time to disease progression shows continued advantage in the salvage ASCT group compared with the weekly cyclophosphamide group (19 months [95% CI 16-26] vs 11 months [9-12]; hazard ratio [HR] 0·45 [95% CI 0·31-0·64] log-rank p<0·0001). Median overall survival was superior in the salvage ASCT group compared with weekly cyclophosphamide group (67 months [95% CI 55-not estimable] vs 52 months [42-60]; log-rank p=0·022; HR 0·56 [0·35-0·90], p=0·0169). Time to second objective disease progression was superior in the salvage ASCT group compared with the weekly cyclophosphamide group (67 months [52-not estimable] vs 35 months [31-43]; HR 0·37 [0·24-0·57], log-rank p<0·0001). During extended follow-up, no further treatment-related or treatment-unrelated adverse events were reported. 15 second primary malignancies were reported in 12 patients (salvage ASCT [n=7] vs oral weekly cyclophosphamide [n=5]). The cumulative incidence of second primary malignancies at 60 months after trial entry was 5·2% (2·1-8·2)., Interpretation: Salvage ASCT increases overall survival during consolidation of re-induction treatment in patients with multiple myeloma at first relapse after a first ASCT.
