Abstract

WOS: 000456899300021, PubMed ID: 30448489, The Pamphilioidea represents a small superfamily of the phytophagous suborder Symphyta (Hymenoptera). Here, nearly complete mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of three pamphilioid species: Chinolyda flagellicornis (Pamphiliidae), Megalodontes spiraeae and M. cephalotes (Megalodontesidae) were newly sequenced using next generation sequencing and comparatively analysed with the previously reported symphytan mitogenomes. A positive AT skew (0.013) and a negative GC skew (-0.194) were found in pamphilioid mitogenome, and a deviation from strand asymmetry was also observed in the PCGs encoded on both strands. Several gene rearrangement events were observed in four tRNA gene clusters (WCY, IQM, ARNS1EF and TP clusters), which have not been reported from symphytan mitogenomes to date. As the most parsimonious explanation, compared with the inferred insect ancestral mitogenome architecture, the occurrence of gene rearrangements in pamphilioid mitogenomes requires totally five evolutionary steps, including four transpositions and one inversion. The predicted secondary structures of tRNAs, rrnS and rrnL genes are mostly consistent with reported hymenopteran species. Phylogenetic analyses recovered the monophyly of superfamily Pamphilioidea and indicated the relationship Tenthredinoidea + (Pamphilioidea + (Cephoidea + (Orussoidea + Apocrita))) with strong nodal supports. Abstract

WOS: 000430897400003, PubMed ID: 29609862, We synthesized Ni2+-attached O-Carboxymethyl chitosan Schiff base complexes embedded composite cryogels (Ni2+-O-CMCS-CCs) by means of polymerization of gel-forming precursors at subzero temperatures. Prepared affinity cryogel showed excellent adsorption performance for lysozyme selected as model protein to test adsorption parameters, demonstrating an adsorption capacity of 244.6 mg/g (15.3 mg/g for Ni2+ minus O-CMCS-CCs), with fast adsorption equilibrium within 30 min and good reversibility. The performance of Ni2+-O-CMCS-CCs for lysozyme was also evaluated by SDS-PAGE, and a purification efficiency of 86.9% with 89.5% purification yield was determined. The swelling test, FT-IR, and SEM analysis were carried out for the characterization of Ni2+-O-CMCS-CCs. At the end of 35 adsorption-desorption cycles, there was no significant change in the adsorption capacity. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

WOS: 000447110900019, PubMed: 30077522, All-male or all-female progeny is preferable in reproduction of fish species. In rainbow trout, all female progeny is desirable, and the most common and healthful approach is to use sex reversed (SR) females as broodstock by including androgen hormones through the diet at the larval stage. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences and changes of seminal plasma ions (Na+ K+ Ca2+, Mg2+ and Cl-) and pH in 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 year-old SR females, compared with 2 to 3 year-old normal (N) males at the beginning, middle, and end of the spawning season (SS). Additionally, osmolality, spermatozoa concentration, and sperm motility characteristics were determined. Percentages of sperm motility of SR females were negatively correlated with seminal plasma pH and sperm concentrations (r = -0.479 and r = -0.534, respectively, P < 0.05). Seminal plasma pH (7.14 +/- 0.05 to 7.40 +/- 0.10) in SR females was less than for N males (7.66 +/- 0.10 to 8.04 +/- 0.10) at all periods of the SS (P < 0.05). The Ca2+ concentrations in the mid-SS were 0.74 +/- 0.23 mM in N males, 1.09 +/- 0.29 mM in 2 to 3 year-old SR females, and 0.83 +/- 0.29 in 2 to 3 year-old SR females, without significant differences (P > 0.05). Furthermore, using of 2 to 3 year-old rather than 3 to 4 year-old SR females for reproduction could provide an advantage in terms of sperm motility characteristics. Abstract

WOS: 000430763000044, The adsorption behavior and inhibition mechanism of five synthesized bis-azo dye (BAD) derivatives on the corrosion of iron in aerated HNO3 and NaOH were investigated by performing potentiostatic polarization, weight loss (WL), thermometric and UV-visible spectra measurements. DFT calculations is applied to study the correlation between corrosion inhibition and global reactivity descriptors such as: E-HOMO, E-LUMO, molecular gap (Delta E), the dipole moment (mu), the global hardness (eta), softness(S), electro-negativity (chi) (k), proton affinity (PA), electrophilicity (omega), nucleophilicity (epsilon), electrons transferred from inhibitors to metal surface (Delta N), initial molecule-metal interaction energy (Delta psi), total electronic energy (E) and the energy change during electronic back-donation process (Delta E (b-d)). To mimic the real environment of corrosion inhibition, molecular dynamic (MD) simulations in aqueous phase have also been modelled consisting of all concerned species (inhibitor molecule, H2O, H3O+ ion, NO3- ion, OH- and Fe surface). The results confirmed that BAD molecules inhibit iron by adsorption behavior through donating and accepting electrons together with the formation of [Fe (II) and Fe (III)-BAD] chelate complex compounds. BAD's behavior is mainly chemisorption with some physisorption obeyed Frumkin and that of El-Awady adsorption isotherm. Kinetic parameters such as: (K-b, 1/y, K-ads. f, Delta G degrees (ads)) have been determined and discussed. Binding energies of BAD molecules on Fe (110) surface followed the order: BAD_2 > BAD_1 > BAD_3 > BAD_4> BAD_5. Theoretical results were found to be consistent with the experimental data reported. Our results provide important atomic/molecular insights into the anticorrosive mechanism of inhibitor molecules, which could help in understanding the organic-metal interface and designing more appropriate organic corrosion inhibitors. Abstract

WOS: 000451653700009, In the present study, we theoretically reported the effects of applied external fields, such as intense laser field and electric and magnetic fields, on the optical absorption coefficient and refractive index changes in the Tietz-Hua potential quantum well by the compact density-matrix approach. For this, we first calculated the subband energy levels and their corresponding electronic wave functions of the structure by solving the one-dimensional Schrodinger equation within the framework of the effective mass and envelope wave function approximations. Our theoretical results show that the optical absorption coefficient and refractive index changes in the Tietz-Hua potential quantum well are sensitive to the applied external fields. Abstract

WOS: 000449135300025, This study reports the synthesis and application of new saponin (SAP)-loaded montmorillonite-human serum albumin (Mt-HSA) nanocomposites (NCs) as an anticancer drug delivery agent. When the biodegradable and biofriendly HSA was combined with Mt., which possesses excellent mucoadhesive properties, the resulting NCs could pass through the gastrointestinal barrier easily. SAP-Mt-HSA NCs were prepared by a modified desolvation technique in which ethanol and glutaraldehyde (GA) were used as precipitating and crosslinking agents, respectively. The efficacy of these NCs was assessed in a colorectal cancer cell line (DLD-1) as an in-vitro gastrointestinal model and L929 fibroblast cells as a healthy cell model. The release profile of SAP and the cytotoxic effect and cellular uptake of NCs were evaluated. The results clearly demonstrated that SAP-Mt-HSA NCs can induce dose-dependent cancer cell death with little or no toxicity toward healthy cells.

Abstract

WOS: 000428972900018, In this study, we performed a novel synthesis of the octahydropyrido[3,2-c]carbazole derivative 6 from 1 in five steps with a 34% overall yield. We also developed a unique compound 2 by a cyclization reaction from the cyanoethylation of compound 1, which is an intermediate step in the synthesis of Aspidospermidine. The parent compound of Aspidospermidine alkaloids, comprise a large family of diverse structures. As a result, we obtained octahydropyrido[3,2-c]carbazole (6)and the proposed method may be applicable to other alkaloids. All quantum chemical calculations of the cis-4a-Ethyl-1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2,3,4,4a,5,6,7,11c-octahydro-1H-pyrido[3,2-c]carbazole have been performed with the DFT/B3LYP and HF methods by using the Gaussian 09W software package. The most stable conformer obtained from the Potential Energy Surface (PES) scan analysis at the B3LYP/6-31G** level of theory in the gas phase was used as the starting structure of the title compound to further computational analysis. The Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) and NLO analyses were performed to evaluate the intra-molecular interactions contributing to the molecular stability and to predict the optical properties of the title compound, respectively. Gauge-Independent Atomic Orbital (GIAO) approach was used to determine the H-1 and C-1 NMR chemical shifts of the title compound by subtracting the shielding constants of TMS at both methods. The calculated vibrational frequencies of the title compound were assigned by using the VEDA program and were scaled down by using the scaling factor 0.9668 for B3LYP/6-311++G(d, p) and 0.9050 for HF/6-311++G(d, p) to improve the calculated vibrational frequencies. The FMO (frontier molecular orbital) analysis was evaluated to predict the chemical and physical properties of the title compound and the HOMO, LUMO, and MEP diagrams were visualized by GaussView 4.1 program to present the reactive site of the title compound. WOS: 000423886800011, We study the influence of electric field on the electronic energy band structure, zero-temperature ballistic conductivity and optical properties of double quantum wire. System described by double well anharmonic confinement potential is exposed to a perpendicular magnetic field and Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions. Numerical results show up that the combined effects of internal and external agents cause the formation of crossing, anticrossing, camel-back/anomaly structures and the lateral, downward/upward shifts in the energy dispersion. The anomalies in the energy subbands give rise to the oscillation patterns in the ballistic conductance, and the energy shifts bring about the shift in the peak positions of optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes. Abstract

WOS: 000402217900008, This research was conducted to determine muscle fiber characteristics and its relationship with some meat quality traits in Longissimus dorsi (LD) and Semitendinosus (ST) muscles from lambs of some Turkish native sheep breeds. A total of 36 singleton male lambs were used as experimental pure breed animals of Karayaka (n = 6), Kivircik (n = 6), Middle Anatolian Merino (n = 6), Awassi (n = 6), Morkaraman (n = 6) and Akkaraman (n = 6) breeds. All experimental animals were fed the same diet until they reach to a target weight of 40 kg weight. After the feeding period all lambs were slaughtered and LD and ST muscle samples were collected for determination of some meat quality traits (tenderness, pH, water holding capacity, and colour) and ATPase staining of muscle fibers. Type IIB muscle fiber numbers of Morkaraman sheep were higher than those of other breeds in LD muscle (P < 0.05). Awassi lambs had higher number of (P < 0.05) type IIA fibers and total fiber numbers in ST muscle compared to other breeds. Diameter of type I muscle fiber of ST muscle from Kivircik lambs was higher than those of other breeds (P < 0.05). WOS: 000403381200030, PubMed: 28532028, Sporopollenin microcages were produced from the pollens of Platanus orientalis. Paracetamol was loaded into the microcages. Pollen, sporopollenin, paracetamol and paracetamol-loaded sporopollenin microcages were characterized with FT-IR, TGA and SEM. The analytical analyses demonstrated that sporopollenin microcages were structurally intact, highly reticulated and thermally stable. The loading efficiency of the sporopollenin microcages was found to be 8.2% using the passive loading technique and 23.7% via evaporating loading technique. In vitro release and kinetics studies were performed to test the suitability of sporopollenin microcages for loading. These studies revealed that sporopollenin from P. orientalis can be suggested as a suitable carrier for drug loading and controlled release studies. WOS: 000394635200014, In this work, within the effective mass approximation we have performed a theoretical study of electronic states, the intersubband-related optical absorption coefficient and relative refractive index change properties in the GaAs-based double delta-doped quantum well under non-resonant intense laser field. By solving the Schrodinger equation in the laser-dressed confinement potential, We calculated eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions as an intense laser parameter. We concluded that the separation between ground and first excited energy levels in the double delta-doped quantum well increases in energy by the increase of the laser field intensity and this effect leads to an optical blue-shift in intersubband transitions. Therefore a significant tunability of the optical transitions in double delta-doped quantum well can be achieved by modulating the intensity of the intense laser field. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. WOS: 000401386400032, In the present work, the effects of the non-resonant intense laser field, electric and magnetic fields on the optical properties, such as linear, third order nonlinear and the total optical absorption coefficient and refractive index changes associated with the intersubband transitions between the ground and the first excited states in the n-type double delta-doped GaAs quantum well is theoretically studied by solving the Schrodinger equation in the laser-dressed confinement potential within the framework of effective mass approximation. The analytical expressions of the linear and third-order nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are obtained by using the compact-density matrix formalism. Our numerical results show that the optical absorption coefficient and refractive index change are quite sensitive to the applied external fields, such as non resonant intense laser field, electric and magnetic fields. The obtained results can be applied for the design of various optoelectronic devices based on the intersubband transitions of electrons.

Abstract

WOS: 000395604700011, We report in this paper the synthesis, spectroscopic, crystal structure, biological activities and theoretical results of the title compound. The crystal structure was defined by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method. In addition, this newly synthesized hydrazone derivative was also subjected to its possible antioxidant activity with free radical scavenging ability of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals using butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) as standard antioxidant. The structural calculations were performed by the density functional theory using the B3LYP method with 6-311++G(2d,2p) basis set. The calculated values were compared with experimental results. WOS: 000381833100027, The crystal structure and spectroscopic properties of (3aR,65,7aR)-7a-bromo-6-methyl-2-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-1,2,3,6,7,7a-hexahydro-3a,6-epoxyisoindole were determined by X-ray diffraction, IR and (CNMR)-C-13 and H-1 NMR spectroscopytechniques. We investigate molecular and crystal structure of the new sulfonamide, which was derived from an environmental friendly cyclization reaction in water. This work allow to the development of a stereo-selective tandem allylamine isomerization/Diels Alder cyclo-addition sequence led to rapid assembly of complex nitrogen containing heterocycles. The molecular geometry from X-ray determination, vibrational frequencies and NMR shifts values of the title compound in the ground state have been calculated by using CAM-B3LYP and B3LYP methods with 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets. The calculated results show that the optimized geometry can well regenerate the crystal structure and theoretical vibrational frequencies and chemical shift data are in good agreement with experimental data. Besides, it is examined nonlinear optic properties, molecular electrostatic potential map and HOMO-LUMO orbitals of the molecule. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

1st International Conference on Biodiversity, Ecology and Conservation of Marine Ecosystems (BECoME) -- JUN 01-04, 2015 -- Univ Hong Kong, Hong Kong, HONG KONG, WOS: 000414772000017, Oxidative stress and antioxidant enzyme activities during the feeding periods of Oncorhynchus mykiss larvae maintained under routine fish-farming conditions were studied. This study examined the antioxidant response, specifically the main antioxidant enzymatic defences (SOD, CAT, GSHpx, GR and GST), of glutathione, and of lipid peroxidation, during the actively exogenous feeding of O. mykiss larvae at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after the yolk-sac is exhausted. Protein content in the fed larval homogenates was determined by the Folin-phenol reagent method. Oxidative damage was measured by the formation of malondialdehyde (MDA) as an indication of lipid peroxidation. Fatty acid methyl esters were prepared from total lipid by acid-catalyzed transmethylation at 55 degrees C for 15 h. Changes in the fatty acid composition were analysed in a GC-17A Shimadzu gas chromatograph. Fat-soluble vitamins were also determined in the same period of O. mykiss. SOD, Catalase and Glutathione peroxidase activity sharply decreased in the 21 and 28 days fed larvae. GR activity was considerably lower than the other enzyme activities measured in 7 days fed larvae. Catalase, Glutathione peroxidase and GR showed their highest value in 14 days fed larvae over a period of 28 days feeding. Unlike other enzymes activities, GST activity showed its highest value in the final two weeks. SPUFA and C22: 6n-3 were found with a higher percentage in the fed larvae than in the feed. Fatty acid percentages of C18: 3n-3 and C20: 5n-3 in fed larval body were reflected by the higher dietary fatty acid percentages but, the percentage of C18: 2n-6 in fed larval body was not reflected. Abstract

WOS: 000373092100007, For intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs), (Bi2O3)(1-x-y)(Sm2O3)(x)(Yb2O3)(y) ternary systems (x=0.01 and y = 0.11), (x=0.05 andy= 0.07), (x=0.07 and y=0.05), and (x=0.11 and y=0.01) as electrolytes have been fabricated at different temperatures (700, 750, and 800 degrees C) by solid state ceramic technique (SST). The characterization of the samples has been performed by X-ray powder diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), four point-probe method (FPPM), X-ray energy diffraction spectroscopy (EDX), and differential thermal analysis (DTA). XRD measurements have shown that only the samples (Bi2O3)(1-x-y)(Sm2O3)(x)(Yb2O3)(y) (x=0.01, y=0.11 synthesized at 700, 750, and 800 degrees C) and (x=0.05, y=0.07 synthesized at 800 degrees C) have stable fluorite type face centered cubic (FCC) delta-phase. SEM images have shown the morphology of the stable samples. The conductivity and the operation temperature region of the samples have been determined from Arrhenius curves obtained from the FPPM measurements data and they vary from 1.83 to 9.95 x 10(-1) S cm(-1). Moreover, activation energy of the samples have been calculated by means of Arrhenius curves of the samples and relationships between them and the conductivity of the samples have been investigated in detail. Abstract

WOS: 000368783600087, We extract the e(+) e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) cross section in the energy range between 600 and 900 MeV, exploiting the method of initial state radiation. A data set with an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb(-1) taken at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider is used. The cross section is measured with a systematic uncertainty of 0.9%. We extract the pion form factor vertical bar F pi vertical bar(2) as well as the contribution of the measured cross section to the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to (g - 2)(mu). We find this value to be a(mu)(pi pi,LO) (600-900 MeV) = (368.2 +/- 2.5(stat)+/- 3.3(sys)).10(-10), which is between the corresponding values using the BaBar or KLOE data. (C) 2015 The Authors. Abstract

In the present study, to predict corrosion inhibition performances of 2-amino-4-(4-chlorophenyl)-thiazole (Inh1), 2-amino-4-(4-bromophenyl)-thiazole (Inh2), 4-(2-aminothiazole-4-yl)-phenol (Inh3), 5,5'-(ethane-1,2-diyldisulfanediyl) bis-(1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine) (Inh4), 5,5'-(propane-1,3-diyldisulfanediyl) bis-(1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine) (Inh5) against corrosion of Fe metal, density functional theory (DFT) calculations and molecular dynamics simulations approach were performed on these mentioned molecules. Firstly, quantum chemical parameters such as the highest occupied molecular orbital energy (E-HOMO), lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy (E-LUMO), the energy gap between E-LUMO, and E-HOMO (Delta E), chemical hardness, softness, electronegativity, proton affinity, global electrophilicity, global nucleophilicity and total energy (sum of electronic and zero-point energies) were calculated and discussed with the help of HF/SDD, HF/6-311G, HF/6-31 ++G, B3LYP/SDD, B3LYP/6-311G and B3LYP/6-31 ++G methods. Then, we calculated binding energies on Fe(110) surface of afore-mentioned thiazole and thiadiazole derivatives to investigate the strength of the interactions between metal surface and these molecules. The theoretical data obtained are in good agreement with the experimental inhibition efficiency results earlier reported. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

WOS: 000389090900024, PubMed ID: 27581558, A strain of Lactobacillus fermentum producing two isozymes of a 20 kDa beta-amylase was isolated from the faecal sample of a newborn. The starin was identified by sequencing its 16S rRNA gene. The two beta-amylase isozymes were resolved and visualized by two dimensional protein gel electrophoresis (2-D gel electrophoresis). Some of the physical and biochemical properties of the enzymes were characterized. The beta-amylase displayed two optimum pH s, 5.0 and 10.0 and two optimum temperatures, 45 degrees C and 37 degrees C, respectively. The isozymes hydrolyzed different substrates: glycogen at pH 5.0, and corn starch at pH 10.0. The activity did not require Ca2+, though the activity at pH 10.0 was enhanced in the presence of 5.0 mM and 10.0 mM CaCl2, 110% and 130%, respectively. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

WOS: 000355714800020, This study describes the preparation, characterization and the photoluminescence properties of novel azo-azomethines (2-{(E)-[(4-ethylphenyl)imino]methyl}-4-[(E)-phenyldiazenyl]phenol, HL1 and 2-{(E)-[(3-ethylphenyl)imino]methyl}-4-[(E)-phenyldiazenyl]phenol, HL2 dyes). The dyes were characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic studies such as IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR, mass and fluorescence spectra. Molecular structures of the dyes were examined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The molecular structures are mostly similar, differing mainly in the position of the ethyl group and dihedral angles between aromatic rings. X-ray data revealed that both HL1 and HL2 favor phenol-imine tautomer in the solid state. An intramolecular phenol-imine hydrogen bond (O1 center dot center dot center dot N1) were observed in both compounds resulting in a S(6) hydrogen bonding motif. Molecular packing of both compounds are determined by pi center dot center dot center dot pi interactions. Quantum chemical investigation of mentioned molecules were performed by using DFT hybrid function (B3LYP) with 6-31+G(d) basis set. The compounds HL1 and HL2 gave intense light emissions upon irradiation by Ultra-Violet light. The photoluminescence quantum yields and long excited-state lifetimes of the compounds HL1 and HL2 were measured. The azo-azomethine dyes HL1 and HL2 have photoluminestence quantum yields of 34% and 32% and excited-state lifetimes of 3.21 and 2.98 ns, respectively. The photoluminescence intensities and quantum yields of these dyes were dependent on the position of alkyl group on the phenyl ring. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

International Conference on Nanoscale Magnetism (ICNM-2013) -- SEP 02-06, 2013 -- Istanbul, TURKEY, WOS: 000343799300052, Local environment of substitutional paramagnetic point defect (impurity) in normal and x-ray irradiated commercially available alpha-Al2O3:C samples (commercial product of Landauer, Inc.) has been studied by using the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technique at room temperature. In both samples the EPR spectra showed strongly angular dependent behavior. The zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameters (ZFSPs) have been determined for substitutional Cr3+ centers. The observed additional EPR signals for x-ray irradiated sample were attributed to another center with different spin Hamiltonian (SH) parameters. In addition to the experimental findings, the ZESPs and the local structure of the Cr3+ ions were theoretically determined using superposition model (SPM) calculations. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

International Conference on Nanoscale Magnetism (ICNM-2013) -- SEP 02-06, 2013 -- Istanbul, TURKEY, WOS: 000343799300032, In order to investigate the magnetic properties by ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) techniques, (Cu/Co)(60)/ Fe multilayer on Si(001) substrate has been prepared by conventional sputtering. Evolution of the FMR spectra with temperature, resonance field, and magnetization curve has been calculated using the Lanclau-Lifshitz equation of motion for magnetization with the Bloch-Bloembergen type damping term. An almost linear evolution of frequency of resonance field has been shown for x-, k- and q-band spectra. By the analysis of the resonance field-frequency relation, the effect of the internal field is refined and thus the spectroscopic g-value and internal field were calculated. The magnetostatic signal originated from the magnetostatic anisotropy energy has been determined to be opposed by the decreasing exchange and dipolar energies. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

WOS: 000359166500001, The combined effects of electric and magnetic fields on the optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes related to the intersubband transitions within the conduction band of asymmetric GaAs/Ga1-xAlxAs double inverse parabolic quantum wells are studied using the effective-mass approximation and the compact density-matrix approach. The results are presented as a function of the incident photon energy for the different values of the electromagnetic fields and the structure parameters such as quantum well width and the Al concentration at the well center. It is found that the optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index changes are strongly affected not only by the magnitudes of the electric and magnetic fields but also by the structure parameters of the system. 1st World Multidisciplinary Earth Sciences Symposium (WMESS) -- SEP 07-11, 2015 -- Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC, WOS: 000370751200087, Korucak Creek Basin is located within upper course of the Yesilirmak River Basin and southern Middle Karadeniz (Black Sea) section which is known to have the potential of landslide and flood risk. The purpose of identification of landslide-triggering factors is to highlight the regional distribution of potentially unstable slopes and to guide decision makers for regional planning purposes. We assessed morphometric parameters for landslide-triggering factors of Korucak Creek Basin using GIS (Geographical Information System). These parameters are Stream Power Index (SPI) and Compound Topographic Index (CTI). Moreover, slope and elevation values of the basin were classified and superposed over the geologic map. Landslide locations were identified from topographic maps and verified with field observation. The total catchment area of the basin is about 55 km2. More than half of the total basin is covered by metamorphic rock types such as schist, which has high permeability and weakness against erosion and is one of the main causes of the landslides. The results show that the main triggering factors are slope and lithology. Thus, northern and western of the Korucak subbasin are under the highest-risk landslide areas. (C) 2015 The Authors. WOS: 000360095000019, In this present work, the effects of the structure parameters such as the right-well width and the rightbarrier height on the linear, third-order nonlinear and total absorption and refractive index changes of asymmetric double semi-V-shaped quantum well are theoretically studied by using the compact-density matrix approach and iterative method. The electronic structure of this system is obtained by solving Schrodinger equation within the framework of effective mass approximation. Numerical results are presented for a typical GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs asymmetric double semi-V-shaped quantum well. It can be said that, this strategy is an operational regime so as to increase the performance of monetary policy and gained a placed in the economy policies of countries due to its good performance till today. The main aim of this strategy is first to reduce inflation at low levels and then take under the control at these levels. It is agreed that unless the target variations (or target range) occurred depending upon economic fluctuations are permanent, they do not create any negative effects on the success of approach. However, this strategy has been questioned caused by the process in crisis. This paper examines growth rates (GDP) in developed and developing countries that is implement of inflation targeting strategy show how a change in the period before and after the crisis (2005-2011). In addition, also inflation performance of those countries has been taken into account for he same period in this review. Abstract

WOS: 000342254500006, A new Schiff base ligand, 1,6-Bis(2-(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)-4-chlorophenoxy)hexane was synthesized. Some Schiff metal complexes of the new Schiff base were prepared by the reaction of some metal salts and the Schiff base. The complexes are non-electrolytes as shown by their molar conductivities (Lambda M). The structures of metal complexes are proposed from elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-vis, magnetic susceptibility measurements, molar conductivity measurements, mass spectra and thermal gravimetric analysis. In addition theoretical H-1 NMR, HOMO-LUMO studies of the ligand; antimicrobial and cyclic voltammetric studies of the compounds were also carried out. Abstract

WOS: 000325600100024, The optical properties of alkaline earth aluminates doped with rare earth ions have received much attention in the last years and this is due to. their chemical stability, long-afterglow (LAG) phosphorescence and high quantum efficiency. However, there is a lack of understanding about the nature of the rare earth ion trapping sites and the mechanisms which could activate and improve the emission centers in these materials. Therefore a new phosphor material composition, SrAl2O4:Mn2+, co-doped with Nd3+ was synthesized by a traditional solid-state reaction method. The influence of transition metal and rare earth doping on crystal structure and its luminescence properties have been investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering, Photoluminescence (PL) and Radioluminescence (RL). Analysis of the related diffraction patterns has revealed a major phase characteristic of the monoclinic SrAl2O4 compound. Small amounts of the dopants MnCO3 and Nd2O3 have almost no effect on the crsytalline phase composition. Characteristic absorption bands from Nd3+ 4f-4f transitions in the spectra can be assigned to the transitions from the ground state I-4(9/2) to the excited states. The luminescence of Mn2+ activated SrAl2O4 exhibits a broad green emission band from the synthesized phosphor particles under different excitation sources. This corresponds to the spin-forbidden transition of the d-orbital electron associated with the Mn2+ ion. In photo- and radio-luminescence spectra, Nd3+ 4f-4f transition peaks were observed. The emitted radiations for different luminescence techniques were dominated by 560, 870, 1057 and 1335 nm peaks in the visible and NIR regions as a result of I-4(9/2) -> (4)G(7/2) and F-4(3/2) -> I-4(J) (J=9/2, 11/2 and 13/2) transitions of Nd3+ ions, respectively. Multiple emission lines observed at each of these techniques are due to the crystal field splitting of the ground state of the emitting ions. The nature of the emission lines is discussed. The sample group of the study consists of a total of 85 pre-service teachers (45 for the experimental group, 40 for the control group) who are in their first year in the Science Education Program in a state university. The model employed in the research study was a semi-experimental one having a pre-test, post-test experimental group and control group. In the experimental group, the experiments were conducted by the use of worksheets based on scenarios, whereas in the control group the experiments were conducted in the form of a close-ended experiment. In the study, the "Science Process Skills Test", which was adopted by Aydogdu (2006), was employed as a means of data collection. Most of the lessons includes theme of accounting, finance, tax, and law. In this context, the success or failure of students in accounting lessons affect both the students' professional careers and undergraduate education period. The success and the failure of the students at accounting lessons depend on several factors. As an example of these factors, educator factor: the ability of imparting the theoretic information to the practical, physical feasibility: the laboratories besides classes, etude, working, and counseling services etc. This study, at the first part, has a sample of two similar universities. Accordingly, this study aims to assert a comparison of the students which studies at similar cities, universities, and departments, failure or success of accounting lessons. At the second part of the study, a model have been suggested which has prevented the factors that causes the failure of accounting lessons. WOS: 000326766200007, 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) was covalently bonded to glassy carbon substrate by cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. 2, 4-diaminophenol film (DAPO) was acquired with electrochemical reduction of 2,4-dinitrophenol film (DNPO). Prepared films were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and germanium attenuated total reflection infrared (GATR-FT-IR) spectroscopy. A hemispherical germanium ATR element used with p-polarized light at 65 incidence angle yielded high signal/noise IR spectra for monolayer coverage of molecules on glassy carbon substrate. Layer thickness of films was measured using ellipsometer. Nitro and amine groups involved surface were commented on mono-multi layer film thickness with modified cyclic number effects. Abstract

ECT Workshop on Strange Hadronic Matter -- SEP 26-30, 2011 -- Trento, ITALY, WOS: 000304238700020, The HypHI Phase 0 experiment with Li-6 projectiles at 2 A GeV on a carbon target has been performed at GS' in order to demonstrate the feasibility of precise hypernuclear spectroscopy with peripheral heavy ion collisions. Current data analyses have preliminary shown peaks in invariant mass distributions of p + pi(-) for Lambda, He-3 + pi(-) for H-3(Lambda) and He-4 + pi(-) for H-4(Lambda). Lifetime values for the corresponding peaks have been also deduced, which is in good agreement with the former known values. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

WOS: 000300864200005, The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) is a European project to develop and operate the next generation gamma-ray spectrometer. AGATA is based on the technique of gamma-ray energy tracking in electrically segmented high-purity germanium crystals. This technique requires the accurate determination of the energy, time and position of every interaction as a gamma ray deposits its energy within the detector volume. Reconstruction of the full interaction path results in a detector with very high efficiency and excellent spectral response. The realisation of gamma-ray tracking and AGATA is a result of many technical advances. These include the development of encapsulated highly segmented germanium detectors assembled in a triple cluster detector cryostat, an electronics system with fast digital sampling and a data acquisition system to process the data at a high rate. The full characterisation of the crystals was measured and compared with detector-response simulations. This enabled pulse-shape analysis algorithms, to extract energy, time and position, to be employed. In addition, tracking algorithms for event reconstruction were developed. The first phase of AGATA is now complete and operational in its first physics campaign. In the future AGATA will be moved between laboratories in Europe and operated in a series of campaigns to take advantage of the different beams and facilities available to maximise its science output. WOS: 000304788000008, PubMed ID: 22480449, Contamination of plants with heavy metals could result in damage in DNA, such as mutations and crosslinks with proteins. These altered DNA profiles may become visible in changes such as the appearance of a new band, or loss of an existing band, in the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) assay. In this study, various concentrations of copper and zinc salts were applied to cucumber seedlings during germination. Results displayed abnormalities in germination and also changes in root elongation, dry weight and total soluble protein level. All treatment concentrations (40, 80, 160, 240, 320, and 640 mg/L) used in the study caused a decrease/delay in germination of the cucumbers to different extents. Inhibition or activation of root elongation was considered to be the first effect of metal toxicity in the tested plants. Application of the metal salts and the combined solutions on cucumber (Cucumis sativus L) seedlings revealed similar consequences for total soluble protein level, dry weight and ultimately in inhibitory rates as well. The data obtained from RAPD band-profiles and genomic template stability (GTS) showed results that were consistent with the population parameters. In this regard, we conclude that molecular marker assays can be applied in combination with population parameters to measure genotoxic effects of heavy metals on plants. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. WOS: 000294092800039, PubMed ID: 21807212, The stationary phase characteristics of the material obtained through immobilization of humic acid (HA) to aminopropyl silica (APS) via amide-bond formation were investigated. The material was characterized in terms of elemental analysis, FTIR, thermogravimetric analyses, pH point of zero charge measurements, potentiometric titrations, and contact angle measurements. Amount of HA bonded to APS was determined from the elemental analysis results, and found as 170 mgHA/gAPS. Stability of the material was studied in aqueous media at different pH values, and amount of HA released at pH = 8 did not exceed 2% of the total immobilized HA. Stationary phase characteristics of the well-characterized material were investigated in an HPLC system by using some low-molecular weight polar compounds (i.e. some nucleosides and nucleobases) as test solutes. Effect of some experimental variables such as column conditioning, composition of mobile phase, and temperature on the chromatographic behavior of the studied compounds was studied. Role of ammonium solutions at different pH values on retentive properties of the species was also studied. Retention factors (k') versus volume percentage of organic modifier exhibited a U-curve, which was evaluated as an indication for RPLC/HILIC mixed-mode behavior of the stationary phase. Orthogonality between RPLC and HILIC modes was analyzed through geometric approach, and found as 48.5%. Base-line separation for the studied groups of compounds was achieved under each studied mode, and some differentiations were observed in elution order of the compounds depending on the HPLC mode applied. Chromatograms recorded under RPLC and HILIC modes were compared with those recorded on APS under similar conditions, and thus the influence/importance of HA immobilization process was evaluated in detail. WOS: 000273920500021, PubMed ID: 19706312, Synthetic organoselenium compounds can be tailored to achieve greater chemopreventive efficacy with minimal toxic side effects by structural modifications. Two organoselenium compounds (Se I and Se II) were synthesized and evaluated for their antihypertensive and therapeutic properties by adrenomedullin (ADM) levels and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) activity assays in rat heart tissue. 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) is known to generate DNA-reactive species during their metabolism, which may enhance oxidative stress in cells. TH is thought to be a rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of catecholamines. ADM, a potent endogenous vasodilating and natriuretic peptide, may play an important role in the pathophysiology of chronic heart failure. The effects of Se I and Se II were investigated on TH activity, ADM and total RNA levels in the hearts of albino Wistar rats. TH activity was found to be increased significantly by the effect of DMBA (P < 0.05). This increase was restricted in the Se I and Se H treated groups. ADM level was found to be decreased insignificantly by the effect of DMBA (P > 0.05). Total RNA level was found to be decreased significantly by the effect of DMBA (P < 0.05). Abstract

WOS: 000270326800009, The construction and properties of three sets of two-dimensional scintillating fiber detector arrays for tracking of charged particles used in the HypHI Phase 0 experiment at GSI will be reported in this paper. The position resolutions and the detection efficiency of detectors have been obtained for each layer of detectors by using Li-6 primary beams and particles with Z = 1 produced by fragment reactions of Xe-136 projectiles on the hydrogen target. Besides, the response of energy deposition of charged particles in the first detector set placed right behind the target has been studied by using light projectile fragments with Z = 1, 2 and 3 produced by Ni-58 and C-12 beams. Extracted resolutions for energy deposition and position as well as the detection efficiency fulfill the requirements of the HypHl Phase 0 experiment. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Moreover the effects of gender and department on students' achievement were also examined. WOS: 000261972300004, The molecular geometry, the normal mode frequencies and corresponding vibrational assignments of methylphenidate in the ground state were performed by DFT/B3LYP level of theory using the 6-311++G(d, p) basis set. Harmonic vibrational frequencies were calculated. The complete assignments were performed on the basis of the total energy distribution (TED) of the vibrational modes, calculated with scaled quantum mechanics (SQM) method. The conformational stabilities and optimized geometrical parameters have been carried out with density functional theory with 6-311++G(d,p) basic set by the DFT/B3LYP method. The frequency calculations have been performed with DFT to study the vibrational properties and their dependence on the molecular conformation. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. The aim of this study is to determine how the students spend their spare time and to make suggestions about their insufficiency. Survey method was used in the research. Spare time activities and the habits of the students in primary schools in Erzurum were investigated. The sample of the research consists of 500 students attending to 10 different primary school in Erzurum in 2008-2009 school year. A questionnaire with 20 questions developed by the researchers was used in the study. In the study, the activities of the students during the day were determined. Furthermore, the types of activities and the necessary places to perform these avtivities were determined. Thus, new plans and activity areas were suggested relating to their needs.

They have high sensitivity, a large dynamic range, thermal stability and ease of preparation. Nevertheless, they can be enhanced by inclusion of lithium and this study reports some effects of lithium co-dopant on the TL and radioluminescence (RL) emissions of two TL phosphors.
