Paper receipt has been documented as one major source of bisphenol A (BPA) for human exposure but little has been done by researchers to elaborate the potential health risk caused by handling paper receipt up to date. In the present study, BPA was analyzed in 42 supermarket receipts collected from Shenzhen, China. BPA was detected in all samples at concentrations ranging from 2.58 to 14.7mgg(-1). In most cases, the total amount of BPA on the receipt was at least one thousand times the amount found in the epoxy lining of a food can, another controversial use of the chemical. The estimated daily intakes (EDI) of BPA via handling of supermarket receipt ranged from 2 to 347μgday(-1) (mean, 40.4μgday(-1)) for a supermarket cashier and from 0.24 to 3.98μgday(-1) (mean, 0.69μgday(-1)) for general population. Based on the cumulative probability distribution of the calculated daily exposure to BPA via handling supermarket receipt, the EDI at the 0.1th and 1th percentile for supermarket cashier and general population, were already larger than 100ng (kgbw)(-1)day(-1), while at the 0.2th and 71th percentile, the EDI for both populations reached 1000ng (kgbw)(-1)day(-1). Considering the adverse endocrine disruptive effects of BPA and the dosage exposure level (from tens to hundreds ng (kgbw)(-1)day(-1)), human exposure to BPA in Shenzhen deserves more attention. Lipophilic shellfish toxins (LSTs) are widely distributed in marine environments worldwide, potentially threatening marine ecosystem health and aquaculture safety. In this study, two large-scale cruises were conducted in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, China, in spring and summer 2023 to clarify the composition, concentration, and spatial distribution of LSTs in the water columns and sediments. Results showed that okadaic acid (OA), dinophysistoxin-1 (DTX1) and/or pectenotoxin-2 (PTX2) were detected in 249 seawater samples collected in spring and summer. The concentrations of ∑LSTs in seawater were ranging of ND (not detected) -13.86, 1.60-17.03, 2.73-17.39, and 1.26-30.21 pmol L -1 in the spring surface, intermediate, bottom water columns and summer surface water layers, respectively. The detection rates of LSTs in spring and summer seawater samples were 97% and 100%, respectively. The high concentrations of ∑LSTs were mainly distributed in the north Yellow Sea and the northeast Bohai Sea in spring, and in the northeast Yellow Sea, the waters around Laizhou Bay and Rongcheng Bay in summer. Similarly, only OA, DTX1 and PTX2 were detected in the surface sediments. Overall, the concentration of ∑LSTs in the surface sediments of the northern Yellow Sea was higher than that in other regions. In sediment cores, PTX2 was mainly detected in the upper sediment samples, whereas OA and DTX1 were detected in deeper sediments, and LSTs can persist in the sediments for a long time. Overall, OA, DTX1 and PTX2 were widely distributed in the water column and surface sediments in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, China. Erythrogram, despite its prevalent use in assessing red blood cell (RBC) disorders and can be utilized to evaluate various diseases, still lacks evidence supporting the effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and organophosphate esters (OPEs) on it. A cross-sectional study involving 467 adults from Shijiazhuang, China was conducted to assess the associations between 12 PFASs and 11 OPEs and the erythrogram (8 indicators related to RBC). Three models, including multiple linear regression (MLR), sparse partial least squares regression, and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) were employed to evaluate both the individual and joint effects of PFASs and OPEs on the erythrogram. Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) showed the strongest association with HGB (3.68%, 95% CI: 2.29%, 5.10%) when doubling among PFASs in MLR models. BKMR indicated that PFASs were more strongly associated with the erythrogram than OPEs, as evidenced by higher group posterior inclusion probabilities (PIPs) for PFASs. Within hemoglobin and hematocrit, PFHxS emerged as the most significant component (conditional PIP = 1.0 for both). Collectively, our study emphasizes the joint effect of PFASs and OPEs on the erythrogram and identified PFASs, particularly PFHxS, as the pivotal contributors to the erythrogram. Soil dissolved organic matter (SDOM) is an important part of the DOM pool in terrestrial systems, influencing the transport and fate of many pollutants. In this study, SDOMs from different regions across China were compared by a series of spectroscopic methods, including UV-vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and the hydrophobicity was quantified by partition coefficients of SDOM in the aqueous two-phase system (K ATPS ). The molecular weight, aromaticity, and hydrophobicity of SDOM from different regions exhibited strong heterogeneity, K ATPS combined with UV-vis and fluorescence indices can be readily used for differentiating heterogeneous SDOM, and SDOMs were compositionally and structurally different from DOMs in aquatic systems based on spectral characterization. Importantly, the two-phase system (TPS) model has only been validated by DOMs in freshwater systems, and good organic carbon‒water partition coefficient (K OC ) predictive power (RMSE = 0.11) could be provided by the TPS model when applied to heterogeneous SDOM without calibration, showing its broad applicability. This study focused on investigating the concentrations, compositional profiles, partitioning behaviors and spatial variations of organophosphate esters (OPEs) in the Pearl River (PR), South China Sea (SCS) region, to evaluate their environmental risks. ∑OPEs concentrations in the surface water of the PR ranged from 117.5 to 854.8 ng/L in the dissolved phase and from 0.5 to 13.3 ng/L in the suspended particulate matter. In the surface seawaters of the northern and western parts of the SCS, ∑OPEs concentrations were 1.3-17.6 ng/L (mean: 6.7 ± 5.2) and 2.3-24.4 ng/L (mean: 7.6 ± 5.5), respectively. The percentage of chlorinated OPEs in surface water samples from the PR to the SCS was 79 ± 15%. Tripentyl phosphate (TPeP) (average: 28.3%) and triphenylphosphate (TPhP) (average: 9.6%) exhibited significant particulate fraction. A significant negative correlation (p < 0.05) between salt concentration and OPE congeners in seawater suggested that river runoff predominantly introduced OPEs into the coastal waters of the SCS. The findings also showed higher levels of OPEs in the PR and estuary than in offshore waters. The OPE loading from the PR into the SCS was estimated to be ∼119 t y -1 . The presence of TCEP (RQ max  = 2.1), TnBP (RQ max  = 0.48) and TPhP (RQ max  = 0.3) in PR water samples pose a high risk to aquatic organisms, whereas OPEs (RQ < 0.1) in SCS water samples do not pose a threat to aquatic organisms. Ammonia (NH 3 ) plays an important role in the formation of atmospheric particulate matter, but the contribution of traffic-related emissions remains unclear, particularly in megacities with a large number of vehicles. Taking the opportunity of the stringent COVID-19 lockdowns implemented in Beijing and Shanghai in 2022, this study aims to estimate the traffic-related NH 3 emissions in these two megacities based on satellite observations. Differences between urban and suburban areas during the lockdown and non-lockdown periods are compared. It was found that despite different dominating sources, the overall NH 3 concentrations in urban and suburban areas were at a similar level, and the lockdown resulted in a more prominent decrease in urban areas, where traffic activities were most heavily affected. The traffic-related contribution to the total emission was estimated to be ∼30% in megacities, and ∼40% in urban areas, which are about 2-10 times higher than that in previous studies. The findings indicate that the traffic-related NH 3 emissions have been significantly underestimated in previous studies and may play a more critical role in the formation of air pollution in megacities, especially in winter, when agricultural emissions are relatively low. Bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) have been widely spread in the global environment. However, for conjugated BPA and BPS metabolites, limited studies have investigated their occurrence in environmental matrices. We collected paired indoor and outdoor dust (n = 97), as well as human urine (n = 153) samples, from residential houses in Quzhou, China, and measured these samples for 8 conjugated BPA and BPS metabolites. Three BPA metabolites were found in collected indoor and outdoor dust, with BPA sulfate (mean 0.75 and 1.3 ng/g, respectively) and BPA glucuronide (0.13 and 0.26 ng/g) being more abundant. BPA conjugates accounted for a mean of 42 and 56% of total BPA (sum of conjugated BPA and BPA metabolites) in indoor and outdoor dust, respectively. BPS sulfate (mean 0.29 and 0.82 ng/g, respectively) had consistently higher concentrations than BPS glucuronide (0.13 and 0.27 ng/g) in indoor and outdoor samples. BPS conjugates contributed a mean 32% and 45% of total BPS (sum of BPS and BPS metabolites) in indoor and outdoor dust, respectively. Moreover, conjugated BPA and BPS metabolites in indoor or outdoor dust were not significantly correlated with those in urine from residents. Overall, this study first demonstrates the wide presence of conjugated BPA and BPS metabolites, besides BPA and BPS, in indoor and outdoor dust. Anthropogenic reactive nitrogen (N) deposition has increased significantly since the industrial revolution. Northern China has become a global hotspot for N deposition. However, few studies have been conducted to quantify the historical changes of atmospheric N deposition fluxes and source contributions in Northern China. By investigating N contents and δ 15 N values of mosses at Mount Tai (Northern China) in 1984 and 2021, we reconstructed fluxes and source contributions of wet inorganic N deposition and evaluated their historical changes. Compared with 1984, moss N contents (from 1.7 ± 0.3% to 2.1 ± 0.4%) showed a significant increase in 2021, which was mainly attributed to a significant increase in nitrate N deposition fluxes at Mount Tai. Moss δ 15 N values (from -5.9 ± 0.9‰ to -5.2 ± 2.4‰) showed a slight increase from 1984 to 2021 at Mount Tai. The importance of combustion-related NH 3 (including vehicle exhaust, coal combustion, and biomass burning) in 2021 (51.2%) were higher than those in 1984 (43.9%), while the importance of volatilization NH 3 sources (including waste and fertilizers) in 2021 (48.8%) were lower than those in 1984 (56.1%). It was fossil-fuel NO x (from vehicle exhaust and coal combustion) (54.1%) rather than non-fossil fuel NO x (from biomass burning and microbial N cycles) (45.9%) dominated NO x emissions in both 1984 and 2021. The significant increase in cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) pollution in agricultural soil has greatly heightened environmental contamination issues and the risk of human diseases. However, the mechanisms underlying the transformation of Cd and Pb in soil as well as the influencing factors during their accumulation in crop grains remain unclear. Based on the analysis of the distribution trend of Cd and Pb in soil during the growth and development stages of wheat (tillering, filling, and maturity) in alkaline heavy metal-polluted farmland in northern China, this study investigated the response mechanism of soil heavy metal form transformation to soil physicochemical properties, and elucidated the main determining periods and influencing factors for Cd and Pb enrichment in wheat grains. The results showed that an increase in CEC and SOM levels, along with a decrease in pH level, contributed to enhancing the bioavailability of Cd in the soil. This effect was particularly evident during the tillering stage and grain filling stage of wheat. Nevertheless, the effects of soil physicochemical properties on bioavailable Pb was opposite to that on bioavailable Cd. The enrichment of Cd and Pb in grain was significantly influenced by soil pH (r = -0.786, p < 0.01), SOM (r = 0.807, p < 0.01), K (r = -0.730, p < 0.01), AK (r = 0.474, p = 0.019), and AP (r = -0.487, p = 0.016). The reducible form of Cd in soil during the wheat tillering stage was identified as the primary factor contributing to the accumulation of Cd and Pb in wheat grains, with a significant contribution rate of 84.5%. Freshwater aquaculture serves as a significant focal point for antibiotic contamination, yet understanding antibiotic distribution across different aquaculture models and stages remains limited. This study evaluated antibiotic pollution in three distinct freshwater aquaculture models: rice-crayfish coculture, fish aquaculture, and crab-crayfish aquaculture, during various aquaculture stages. Of the 33 target antibiotics, 16 antibiotics were detected, with the total concentrations ranging from 111.81 ng/L to 15,949.05 ng/L in water and 10.11 ng/g to 8986.30 ng/g in sediment. Among these antibiotics, erythromycin and lomefloxacin are prohibited for use in Chinese aquaculture. Dominant antibiotics in water included lincomycin, enrofloxacin, and enoxacin, whereas in sediment, oxytetracycline and erythromycin were predominant. Notably, lincomycin emerged as a dominant antibiotic in aquaculture for the first time. The concentrations of these dominant antibiotics were high compared to other aquaculture settings and exhibited elevated ecological risk. Critical periods for antibiotic contamination in water and sediment were found to be incongruent, occurring during the rainy season in July for water and the dry season in October for sediment. Notably, the rice-crayfish coculture model exerts a good effect in reducing antibiotic pollution. The impact of thermally driven mountain-valley breezes (MVB) on the atmospheric environment remains poorly understood, especially in ozone (O 3 )-polluted regions with complex underlying topography. To address this knowledge gap, we focused on the western Sichuan Basin (SCB), situated immediately east of the Tibetan Plateau (TP), which is considered susceptible to MVB coupled with severe O 3 pollution in southwest China. We revealed the MVB driving diurnal O 3 variations and meteorological mechanisms using surface observations and ERA5 reanalysis data. Local MVB days accounted for up to 47% of cases in the summers of 2015-2022. Driven by the MVB, the near-surface O 3 concentrations increased by 8.8%, with 12.7% and 50.0% deterioration in the O 3 light and moderate exceedance rates, respectively, on the western SCB edge. The daytime upslope valley breeze with 20% higher wind speed drove the westward transport of rich O 3 and precursors from the upwind-polluted inner SCB towards its western edge, and the O 3 photochemical production, followed by intensifying solar radiation and air temperature, gave rise to 14.8% of surface O 3 concentrations over the western SCB edge. The nighttime downward mountain breeze with a 20% increase in wind speed could transport the rich O 3 in the mountainous area to the basin edge, causing O 3 levels to increase by 2.8%. Enshi, China, is renowned as "Selenium(Se) Capital" where widely distributed soils derived from Permian parent rocks are notably rich in Se, as well as metals, particularly cadmium(Cd). However, the soil enrichment and crop uptake of Se and metals in these high-Se and high-Cd areas are not well understood. To propose the optimal crop planting plan to ensure the safety of agricultural products, we investigated the soils and corresponding typical crops (rice, tea, and maize). The results showed significant soil enrichment of elements, with average contents (mg/kg) as follows: Cr (185), Zn (126), Cu (58.8), Pb (31.1), As (15.7), Se (6.85), Cd (5.41), and Hg (0.211). All soil Se contents were above 0.4 mg/kg, indicating Se-rich soils. Se primarily existed in an organic-bound form, accounting for an average proportion of 61.3%, while Cd was mainly exchangeable, with an average of 62.5%. Cd exhibited higher activity according to the Relative Index of Activity (RIA). Nemerow single-factor index analysis confirmed significant soil contamination, with Cd showing the highest level, followed by Cr and Cu, while Pb had the lowest level. Tea exhibited a high Se rich ratio (82.0%) without exceeding the Cd standard. In contrast, corn and rice had relatively lower Se-rich ratios (42.0% and 51.5% respectively) and high rates of Cd exceeding the standard, at 49.0% and 61.0% respectively. Canonical analysis revealed that rice was more influenced by soil factors related to Se and Cd compared to maize and tea crops. Therefore, tea cultivation in the Enshi Permian soil area is recommended for safe crop production. Background: The individual and combined effects of PM 2.5 constituents on cardiometabolic risk factors are sparsely investigated. Besides, the key cardiometabolic risk factor that PM 2.5 constituents targeted and the biological mechanisms remain unclear., Method: A multistage, stratified cluster sampling survey was conducted in two typically air-polluted Chinese cities. The PM 2.5 and its constituents including sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, organic matter, and black carbon were predicted using a machine learning model. Twenty biomarkers in three category were simultaneously adopted as cardiometabolic risk factors. We explored the individual and mixture association of long-term PM 2.5 constituents with these markers using generalized additive model and quantile-based g-computation, respectively. To minimize potential confounding effects, we accounted for covariates including demographic, lifestyle, meteorological, temporal trends, and disease-related information. We further used ROC curve and mediation analysis to identify the key subclinical indicators and explore whether inflammatory mediators mediate such association, respectively., Result: PM 2.5 constituents was positively correlated with HOMA-B, TC, TG, LDL-C and LCI, and negatively correlated with PP and RC. Further, PM 2.5 constituent mixture was positive associated with DBP, MAP, HbA1c, HOMA-B, AC, CRI-1 and CRI-2, and negative associated with PP and HDL-C. The ROC analysis further reveals that multiple cardiometabolic risk factors can collectively discriminate exposure to PM 2.5 constituents (AUC>0.9), among which PP and CRI-2 as individual indicators exhibit better identifiable performance for nitrate and ammonium (AUC>0.75). We also found that multiple blood lipid indicators may be affected by PM 2.5 and its constituents, possibly mediated through complement C3 or hsCRP., Conclusion: Our study suggested associations of individual and combined PM 2.5 constituents exposure with cardiometabolic risk factors. PP and CRI-2 were the targeted markers of long-term exposure to nitrate and ammonium. Objective: To assess whether Casitas B-lineage lymphoma (CBL) gene polymorphism influences the risk of microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) in Chinese populations., Methods: In total, 266 MPA patients and 297 healthy controls were recruited for a case-control study. Five CBL SNPs were genotyped using multiplex polymerase chain reaction and high-throughput sequencing. The relationship between SNPs and the risk of MPA under different genetic models was evaluated by SNPstats. SNP-SNP interaction was analyzed by generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR). Finally, the association between CBL SNPs and treatment effects were assessed., Results: The results showed that CBL rs2276083 was associated with decreasing MPA risk under dominant (OR: 0.53; p = 0.014) and recessive models (OR: 0.52; p = 0.0034). Stratification analysis indicated that rs2276083 and rs2509671 in age < 60 years, rs2276083 in female or in Han population were protective factors for MPA. The CBL haplotype (A-A-G-C-T) was associated with an increased risk of MPA. GMDR suggested that CBL rs2276083, phosphatidylinositol-4, 5-bisphosphate 3-kinase catalytic subunit alpha (PI3KCA) rs1607237, and autophagy-related gene 7 (ATG7) rs7549008 might interact with each other in MPA development (p = 0.0107). Background: Cytokines are of utmost importance in both the physiological and pathological immune responses of the human body. This study utilized flow cytometry to measure the levels of plasma interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-5 (IL-5) and interleukin-17A (IL-17A) and established their reference intervals, aiming to provide data support for the diagnosis and treatment of clinical diseases., Methods: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 728 reference individuals were included in this study from January 2023 to June 2023. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to analyse the distributions of plasma IL-2, IL-4, IL-5 and IL-17A. The reference intervals of plasma IL-2, IL-4, IL-5 and IL-17A were established by the unilateral percentile method (95th percentile) based on the guidelines of C28-A 3 and WS/T 402-2012., Results: In this study, the levels of plasma IL-2, IL-4, IL-5 and IL-17A were nonnormally distributed. The concentrations of plasma IL-2, IL-4, IL-5 and IL-17A in healthy adults were not significantly different by sex or age (all P > 0.05). Both thermal and environmental processes are significant factors influencing the existing characteristics, e.g., congener distributions, and existing levels, of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) in the environment. Soil plays an important role in the life cycle of PCNs, but degradation of PCNs in soils has never been reported. In this study, we collected surface soil samples from 13 cities in the Yangtze River Delta, which is one of the most crowded areas of China and analyzed the samples for 75 PCNs. The long-range transportation from polluted areas was the major source for PCNs in remote areas, but the PCN profiles in remote areas reported in our previous studies were different from those in human settlement in this study, indicating there is a transformation of PCNs after emissions from anthropogenic activities. Two experiments were then designed to reveal the degradation mechanisms, including influencing factors, products, and pathways, of PCNs in surface soils. Based on the experiments, we found that the major factor driving the losses of PCNs in surface soils was volatilization, followed by photo irradiation and microbial metabolism. Under photo-irradiation, the PCN structures would be destroyed through a process of dechlorination followed by oxidation. Seawater warming, ocean acidification and chemical pollution are the main threats to coral growth and even survival. The legacy persistent organic contaminants (POCs), such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and the emerging contaminants, including polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), dechlorane plus (DPs) and novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs) were studied in corals from Luhuitou fringing reef in Sanya Bay and Yongle atoll in Xisha Islands, the South China Sea (SCS). Total average concentrations of ∑ 16 PAHs, ∑ 23 OCPs, ∑ 34 PCBs, ∑ 8 PBDEs, ∑ 2 DPs and ∑ 5 NBFRs in 20 coral species (43 samples) from the SCS were 40.7 ± 34.6, 5.20 ± 5.10, 0.197 ± 0.159, 3.30 ± 3.70, 0.041 ± 0.042 and 36.4 ± 112 ng g -1 dw, respectively. PAHs and NBFRs were the most abundant compounds and they are likely to be dangerous pollutants for future coral growth. Compared to those found in other coral reef regions, these pollutants concentrations in corals were at low to median levels. Except for PBDEs, POCs in massive Porites were significantly higher than those in branch Acropora and Pocillopora (p < 0.01), as large, closely packed corals may be beneficial for retaining more pollutant. The environmental burden due to industrial activities has been quite observable in the last few years, with heavy metals (HMs) like lead, cadmium, and arsenic inducing serious perturbations to the microbial ecosystem of groundwater. Studies carried out in North China, a region known for interconnection of industrial and groundwater systems, sought to explore the natural mechanisms of adaptation of microbes to groundwater contamination. The results showed that heavy metals permeate from surface increased the diversity and abundance of microbial communities in groundwater, producing an average decrease of 40.84% and 34.62% in the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria in groundwater, respectively. Meanwhile, the key environmental factors driving the evolution of microbial communities shift from groundwater nutrients to heavy metals, which explained 50.80% of the change in the microbial community composition. Microbial indicators are more sensitive to HMs pollution and could accurately identify industrial area where HMs permeation occurred and other extraneous pollutants. The phylum Bacteroidetes could act as appropriate indicators for the identification. Significant genera that were identified, being Mesorhizobium, Clostridium, Bacillus and Mucilaginibacter, were found to play important roles in the microbial network in terms of the potential to assist in groundwater clean-up. Notably, pollution from heavy metals has diminished the effectiveness and resilience of microbial communities in groundwater, thereby heightening the susceptibility of these normally stable microbial ecosystems. These findings offer new perspectives on how to monitor and detect groundwater pollution, and provide scientific guidance for developing suitable remediation methods for groundwater contaminated with heavy metals. Pesticides play vital roles in controlling pests and boosting crop yields. Imidacloprid is widely used all over the world and may form in agricultural products. The presence of pesticide residues in apples raises serious health concerns. Understanding the residual fate of imidacloprid is critical for food safety and human health. In this study, the dissipation behavior, metabolism, household processing and risk assessment of imidacloprid and its metabolites in apple were investigated from filed to products. Field experiment results suggested that the half-lives of imidacloprid at 5 times the recommended dosage was 1.5 times that of the standard dosage. And the final residues of imidacloprid were less than the established maximum residue limits (MRLs). Clarification and simmering had little effect on the reduction the residues of imidacloprid and its metabolites. The calculated processing factors were lower than 1 for imidacloprid and its metabolites, implying that the residual ratios of imidacloprid and its metabolites in each steps of the food processing were reduced. The risk quotients were <1 for all Chinese people, indicating that acceptable risks associated with dietary exposure to imidacloprid in apple. However, the higher risks were observed in young people than adults, and females faced higher risks than males. Rare earth elements (REEs) are emerging contaminants that are increasingly used in high technology products. However, limited information is available regarding exposure to REEs and associated health effects in neonates. This study aimed to investigate the association between REE concentrations and thyroid hormone levels, as well as birth outcomes in 109 newborns in Beijing, China. We measured the concentrations of 16 REEs and thyroid hormones in umbilical cord serum. To assess the impact of exposure to individual REEs and REE mixtures on thyroid hormone levels and birth outcomes, we employed univariate linear regression, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and weighted quantile sum (WQS) models. We detected 14 REEs at high rates (92.6%-100%), with yttrium exhibiting the highest median (interquartile range) concentration [43.94 (0.33-172.55) ng/mL], followed by scandium [3.64 (0.46-11.15) ng/mL]. Univariate analyses showed that per logarithmic (ln)-unit change of neodymium (Nd) and samarium (Sm) was associated with 0.039 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.001, 0.007] and 0.031 (95% CI: 0.003, 0.060) increases in free thyroxine (FT4) levels, respectively. Moreover, 14 REEs exhibited significant associations with triiodothyronine (T3) levels, resulting in increases ranging from 0.066 to 0.307. Elevated concentrations of terbium (Tb) [per ln-unit change: -0.021 (95% CI: -0.041, -0.01)] and lutetium (Lu) [-0.023 (95% CI: -0.043, -0.002)] were inversely correlated with birth length in newborns. A further multiple exposure analysis employing the LASSO model identified Sm, Nd, Y, Sc, and Lu as critical factors influencing FT4 and T3 levels. Additionally, WQS analyses showed positive associations between exposure to a mixture of 14 REEs and FT4 (P = 0.046), T3 (P < 0.001), and birth length (P = 0.049). These findings suggest that in utero exposure to REEs might disrupt thyroid hormone homeostasis and impact intrauterine growth. As a commonly used food preservative, glycerol monocaprylate (GMC) has limited information and lacked a comprehensive risk assessment. In this study, we conducted in vitro genotoxicity tests, a 90-day subchronic toxicity study, and dietary exposure assessment in China. Rats (n = 10/sex/group) were orally administered GMC at doses of 1.02, 2.04, and 4.08 g/kg BW/day along with a water and corn oil for 90 days, including satellite groups (n = 5/sex/group) in the control groups and 4.08 g/kg BW dose group for observation after 90 days. Body weight, food consumption, hematology, serum biochemistry, urinalysis, endocrine hormone level and other metrics were examined. GMC did not exhibit genotoxicity based on the genotoxicity tests results, and an acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 40.8 mg/kg BW/day was established based on the 90-day subchronic toxicity study. Estimated daily intake of GMC for general population and consumer population in China were 0.99 mg/kg BW/day and 3.19 mg/kg BW/day respectively, which were significantly lower than the ADI. Owning to the high radiotoxicity in high concentrations, as well as the irreplaceability in quantifying soil erosion rates, demarcating the Anthropocene, and dating of sediment, anthropogenic 239,240 Pu have drawn high attention. However, the source in specific areas, preservation characteristics in different environment media, and re-distribution process after the cessation of atmospheric nuclear weapons tests, have not been fully understood, which obscures the exact start year, temporal variation, and deposition flux of 239,240 Pu in sedimentary records, and hinders the wide application of 239,240 Pu in environment study. A sediment core from the Yiwu peat bog with dominance of atmospheric deposition in the source material, simple sedimentary environment, and high dust deposition flux, was collected to examine the 239,240 Pu, and explore the source, preservation, and re-distribution process. The double peaks of 239,240 Pu in 1952 CE and 1963 CE, as well as 240 Pu/ 239 Pu ratios of 0.163-0.190 with an average of 0.177 ± 0.010 confirmed that the 239,240 Pu source originated predominantly from global fallout. The minimal vertical migration of plutonium in the Yiwu peat core was attributed to the near-neutral pH condition. The high inventory of 128 ± 7 Bq m -2 , as well as the atypical negative correlation between 239,240 Pu concentrations and organic matter content (r = - 0.79, P < 0.01), was attributed to the contribution of 239,240 Pu re-suspended with dust from the neighboring Gobi Desert, particularly in the cold and dry years. The total re-suspended 239,240 Pu was estimated to be 77 Bq m -2 , exceeding the direct fallout level of 51 Bq m -2 during 1945-2016 CE. Bisphenol analogs (BPs) are extensively employed in commercial and industrial products and they have been found in a variety of environmental matrices and human samples. The red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) has been a trendy food in China in recent decades. However, the levels of BPs in Chinese crayfish and the associated hazards of human exposure remain unknown. Thus, in this study, the levels of eight BPs in crayfish gathered from five major provinces engaged in crayfish within the Yangtze River Basin were analyzed. Additionally, the health risks for humans by ingesting crayfish were calculated. BPs were frequently detected in crayfish tissues, indicating the wide occurrence of these chemicals. In comparison to other substitutions, BPA remains the dominant bisphenol analog. Most of the BPs were observed to accumulate in the hepatopancreas compared to the muscle, so consuming the hepatopancreas of crayfish is not recommended. With the exception of BPS, the Estimated Daily Intakes (EDIs) of the remaining BPs exceeded the Tolerable Daily Intake (TDI) specified by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) by a factor of 1.75-69.0. Exposure to indoor dust is of concern since dust may be contaminated by various toxic chemicals and people spend considerable time indoors. Factors impacting human exposure risks to contaminants in indoor dust may differ from those affecting the loadings of contaminants, but the dominant factors have not yet been well clarified. In this study, the occurrence, human exposure, and related influencing factors of several classes of legacy and emerging contaminants in residential dust across Beijing were investigated, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and three types of flame retardants (FRs), i.e., organophosphate esters (OPEs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and novel halogenated FRs (NHFRs). OPEs (median: 3847 ng/g) were the most abundant group, followed by PBDEs (1046 ng/g) and NHFRs (520 ng/g). PFASs (14.3 ng/g) were one to two orders of magnitude lower than FRs. The estimated daily intakes of these contaminants were relatively higher for toddlers than other age groups, with oral ingestion being the main exposure pathway compared with dermal contact. Higher human exposure risks were found in new buildings or newly finished homes due to the elevated intake of emerging contaminants (such as OPEs). Furthermore, higher risks were also found in homes with wooden floors, which were mainly associated with higher levels of PFASs, chloroalkyl and alkyl OPEs, compared with tile floors. Citizens in the urban area also showed higher exposure risks than those in the suburban area. The quantity of household appliances and finishing styles (simple or luxurious) showed an insignificant impact on overall human exposure risks despite their significant effect on the levels of some of the dust contaminants. China's aquatic environment continues to face several difficulties. Ecological constructed wetland systems (CWs) can be used to treat polluted saline water to alleviate water shortages regionally and globally. However, the performance is limited by low temperatures. To expand the use of CWs, we introduced a slag-sponge, a flaky material derived from alkaline waste slag, to create a newly constructed wetland system that can operate at both low and high temperatures. We evaluated its effectiveness by placing it at different heights in our devices. The results showed that the treatment was effective for saline wastewater with multiple contaminants. The efficiency was 20% higher than that of traditional CWs. Slag-sponges were found to carry pore structures and exhibit thermal insulation, which led to the enrichment of functional microbial communities (Chryseobacterium and Exiguerium) at low temperatures according to the microbial species analysis. Current human health risk assessments of soil arsenic (As) contamination rarely consider bioaccessibility (IVBA), which may overestimate the health risks of soil As. The IVBA of As (As-IVBA) may differ among various soil types. This investigation of As-IVBA focused As from geological origin in a typical subtropical soil, lateritic red soil, and its risk control values. The study used the SBRC gastric phase in vitro digestion method and As speciation sequential extraction based upon phosphorus speciation extraction method. Two construction land sites (CH and HD sites) in the Pearl River Delta region were surveyed. The results revealed a high content of residual As (including scorodite, mansfieldite, orpiment, realgar, and aluminum arsenite) in the lateritic red soils at both sites (CH: 84.9%, HD: 91.7%). The content of adsorbed aluminum arsenate (CH: 3.24%, HD: 0.228%), adsorbed ferrum arsenate (CH: 8.55%, HD: 5.01%), and calcium arsenate (CH: 7.33%, HD: 3.01%) were found to be low. The bioaccessible As content was significantly positively correlated with the As content in adsorbed aluminum arsenate, adsorbed ferrum arsenate, and calcium arsenate. A small portion of these sequential extractable As speciation could be absorbed by the human body (CH: 14.9%, HD: 3.16%), posing a certain health risk. Adsorbed aluminum arsenate had the highest IVBA, followed by calcium arsenate, and adsorbed ferrum arsenate had the lowest IVBA. The aforementioned speciation characteristics of As from geological origin in lateritic red soil contributed to its lower IVBA compared to other soils. The oxidation state of As did not significantly affect As-IVBA. Based on As-IVBA, the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks of soil As in the CH and HD sites decreased greatly in human health risk assessment. The impact of desalination brine on the marine environment is a global concern. Regarding this, salinity is generally accepted as the major environmental factor in desalination concentrate. However, recent studies have shown that the influence of organic contaminants in brine cannot be ignored. Therefore, a non-targeted screening method based on comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC × GC-qMS) was developed for identifying organic contaminants in the desalination brine. A total of 404 compounds were tentatively identified from four seawater desalination plants (three reverse osmosis plants and one multiple effect distillation plant) in China. The identified compounds were prioritized based on their persistence, bioaccumulation, ecotoxicity, usage, and detection frequency. Twenty-one (21) compounds (seven phthalates, ten pesticides, four trihalomethanes) were then selected for further quantitative analysis and ecological risk assessment, including compounds from the priority list along with substances from the same chemical classes. Ecologically risky substances in brine include diisobutylphthalate and bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate, atrazine and acetochlor, and bromoform. Most of the contaminants come from raw seawater, and no high risk contaminants introduced by the desalination process have been found except for disinfection by-products. In brine discharge management, people believed that all pollution in raw seawater was concentrated by desalination process. This study shows that not all pollutants are concentrated during the desalination process. In this study, the total concentration of pesticide in the brine increased by 58.42%. The concentration of ∑PAEs decreased by 13.65% in reverse osmosis desalination plants and increased by 10.96% in the multi-effect distillation plant. The concentration of trihalomethane increased significantly in the desalination concentrate. The change in the concentration of pollutants in the desalination concentrate was related to the pretreatment method and the chemical characteristics of the contaminants. Objective: To investigate the association of circulating adiponectin (APN) level and single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs1501299 and rs266729) of the APN gene in the coronary heart disease (CHD) population of Northern Guangxi Province., Methods: Two hundred and sixty-three CHD patients and 235 healthy controls from our hospital from August 2018 to October 2020 were included in this study. ELISA was used to determine the serum APN concentration. PCR-RFLP and direct DNA sequencing were used to analyze the genotypes of APN gene rs1501299 G/T and rs266729 C/G single-nucleotide loci, their distribution differences between the two groups were compared and their correlation with APN concentration was analyzed., Results: The serum APN concentration in the CHD group was significantly lower than the control group (14.40(1.42-52.26) μg/mL vs. 29.40 (3.18-90.31) μg/mL, P < 0.001). There were statistically significant differences in the rs266729 genotype of APN single nucleotide locus between the two groups (P < 0.001). The dominant model and recessive model of rs266729 genotype showed that mutant homozygous GG genotype carriers significantly increased the risk of CHD in comparison with C allele carriers (CG + CC) (OR = 2.156, 95 %CI: 1.004-4.631, P = 0.049), and this effect was still significant after adjusting gender and age (OR = 2.695, 95 %CI 1.110-6.540, P = 0.028). In both the dominant and recessive models for rs1501299, ORs before and after adjustment for age and sex revealed no significant association with CHD, with ORs of 0.765 (95 % CI: 0.537-1.091, P = 0.139) and 0.718 (95 % CI: 0.466-1.106, P = 0.133) in the Dominant model, and ORs of 0.960 (95 % CI: 0.442-2.087, P = 0.918) and 0.613 (95 % CI: 0.239-1.570, P = 0.308) in the Recessive model, respectively. No statistically significant differences in APN concentrations across genotypes in both groups (P > 0.05), with chi-square values of 1.633 (control group) and 0.823 (CHD group) for rs1501299, and 1.354 (control group) and 0.618 (CHD group) for rs266729., Conclusions: APN gene of rs266729 C/G single-nucleotide loci gene mutation can significantly increase the risk of CHD. Household and personal care chemicals (HPCCs) constitute a significant component of everyday products, with their global usage on the rise. HPCCs are eventually discharged into municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). However, the behaviors of HPCCs inside the Bacillus Bioreactor (BBR) process, including their prevalence, fate, and elimination mechanisms, remain underexplored. Addressing this gap, our study delves into samples collected from a BBR process at a significant WWTP in the northeast of China. Our results spotlight the dominance of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LASs) in the influent with concentrations ranging between 238 and 789 μg/L, much higher than the other HPCC concentrations, and remained dominant in the subsequent treatment units. After treatment using the BBR process, the concentrations of HPCCs in the effluent were diminished. Examination of different treatment units underscores the grit chamber removed over 60% of higher-concentration HPCCs, while the performance of the (RBC) tank needs to be improved. Except for the ultraviolet radiation (UV)-filters, seasonal variations exert minimal impact on the concentrations and removal efficiencies of other HPCCs in the BBR process. According to the mass balance analysis, the important mechanisms for HPCC removal were biodegradation and sludge adsorption. Also, the octocrylene (OCT) concerns raised by the environmental risk assessment of the HPCCs residuals in the final effluent, indicate a moderate risk to the surrounding aquatic environment (0.1 < RQ < 1), whereas other HPCCs have a lower risk level (RQ < 0.1). The devastating effects of COVID-19 pandemic have widely affected human lives and economy across the globe. There were significant changes in the global environmental conditions in response to the lockdown (LD) restrictions made due to COVID-19. The direct impact of LD on environment is analysed widely across the latitudes, but its secondary effect remains largely unexplored. Therefore, we examine the changes in particulate matter (PM₂.₅) during LD, and its impact on the global croplands. Our analysis finds that there is a substantial decline in the global PM₂.₅ concentrations during LD (2020) compared to pre-lockdown (PreLD: 2017-2019) in India (10-20%), East China (EC, 10%), Western Europe (WE, 10%) and Nigeria (10%), which are also the cropland dominated regions. Partial correlation analysis reveals that the decline in PM₂.₅ positively affects the cropland greening when the influence of temperature, precipitation and soil moisture are limited. Croplands in India, EC, Nigeria and WE became more greener as a result of the improvement in air quality by the reduction in particulates such as PM₂.₅ during LD, with an increase in the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) of about 0.05-0.1, 0.05, 0.05 and 0.05-0.1, respectively. As a result of cropland greening, increase in the total above ground biomass production (TAGP) and crop yield (TWSO) is also found in EC, India and Europe. In addition, the improvement in PM₂.₅ pollution and associated changes in meteorology also influenced the cropland phenology, where the crop development stage has prolonged in India for wet-rice (1-20%) and maize (1-10%). Therefore, this study sheds light on the response of global croplands to LD-induced improvements in PM₂.₅ pollution. Neonicotinoid insecticides (NNIs) have attracted global concern due to its extensive use in agricultural activities and their potential risks to the animal and human health, however, there is limited knowledge on the regional traits and ecological risks of NNIs in the aquatic environments. We herein investigated the occurrence of NNIs within the midsection of Yangtze River in China, offering the inaugural comprehensive report on NNIs within this region. In this study, eleven NNIs were analyzed in 108 river water and sediment samples from three seasons (normal, dry and wet season). We detected a minimum of seven NNIs in the water and four NNIs in the sediment, with total concentrations ranging from 12.33 to 100.5 ng/L in water and 0.08-5.68 ng/g in sediment. The levels of NNIs in both river water and sediment were primarily influenced by the extent of agricultural activities. The estimated annual load of NNIs within the midsection of Yangtze River totaled 40.27 tons, April was a critical contamination period. Relative potency factor (RPF) analysis of the human exposure risk revealed that infants faced the greatest exposure risk, with an estimated daily intake of 11.27 ng kg -1 ∙bw∙d -1 . We established the acute and chronic thresholds for aquatic organisms by employing the Species Sensitive Distribution (SSD) method (acute: 384.1 ng/L; chronic: 168.9 ng/L). Water eutrophication caused by nitrogen pollution is an urgent global issue that requires attention. The Qingyi River is a typical micro-polluted river in China. In this study, we took this river as the research object to investigate the nitrogen pollution purification capacity of a herbaceous plant, Rumex japonicus Houtt. (RJH). Compared to nitrate nitrogen (NO 3 - -N) and nitrite nitrogen (NO 2 - -N), RJH showed better purification performance on total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and ammonia nitrogen (NH 4 + -N), with a highest removal rate of 37.22%, 52.13%, and 100%, respectively. RJH could completely remove ammonia nitrogen and exhibit excellent resistance to pollutant interference when the initial concentration of ammonia nitrogen in the cultivation devices increased from 1 mg/L to 10 mg/L or in the actual river. This indicated the great application potential of RJH in ammonia nitrogen removal from natural micro-polluted rivers. In addition, combined effects of nitrification of roots, absorption of self-growth, stripping, and others contributed to nitrogen removal by RJH. Particularly, the nitrification of roots played a dominant role, accounting for 73.85% ± 8.79%. High-throughput sequencing results indicate that nitrifying bacteria accounted for over 75% of all bacterial species in RJH. Furthermore, RJH showed good growth status and strong adaptability. The correlation coefficients of its relative growth rate with chlorophyll A and the degradation rate of absorption were 0.9677 and 0.9594, respectively. Our research demonstrates that RJH is one of the excellent varieties for ammonia removal. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are pervasive in the environment, prompting significant public concern regarding human exposure to these pollutants. In this study, we analyzed the levels of various endocrine-disrupting compounds, including parabens (PBs), benzophenones (BzPs), triclocarban (TCC) and triclosan (TCS), across 565 urine samples collected from residents of South China. All 11 target chemicals were detected at relatively high frequencies (41-100%), with the most prevalent ones being 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (5.39 ng/mL), methyl-paraben (5.12 ng/mL), ethyl-paraben (3.11 ng/mL) and triclosan (0.978 ng/mL). PBs emerged as the most predominant group with a median concentration of 32.2 ng/mL, followed by TCs (sum of TCC and TCS, 0.998 ng/mL) and BzPs (0.211 ng/mL). Notably, urinary concentrations of PBs in adults were significantly higher (p < 0.01) compared to children, while BzPs and TCs were elevated in children (p < 0.001). The increased presence of BzPs and TCs in children is a cause for concern, given their heightened sensitivity and vulnerability to chemicals. Significant correlations were found between urinary target compounds and demographic factors, including gender, age and body mass index. Specifically, females, younger adults (18 ≤ age ≤ 35) and individuals with under/normal weight (16 ≤ BMI ≤ 23.9) were found to have higher exposure levels to EDCs, as indicated by the median values of their estimated daily intakes. The nitrogen cycle plays a vital role in maintaining ecological health and biodiversity. In aquatic systems, nitrogen transformation genes significantly contribute to biological nitrogen cycling. Although the function of these genes is known to be influenced by environmental factors, there is limited research exploring the relationship between nitrogen transformation genes and environmental factors. Therefore, the correlations, between nitrogen transformation genes and environmental factors, were investigated at the estuaries of Chaohu lake (China) in different seasons. The results showed that the values of temperature, pH, organic compounds, nitrogen, and dissolved oxygen were higher in dry season, whereas the abundance of the genes was lower in dry season. In addition, the abundance of the anaerobic ammoxidation gene was much lower than the nitrification gene and denitrification gene. The results indicated that biological nitrification and denitrification were the primary mechanisms for nitrogen removal at estuaries in different seasons, and the reduction of nitric oxide may be a limiting step in the denitrification process. The Co-occurrence Network and Mantel test indicated that, during the dry season, the temperature was the primary driver of ammonification and nitrification functions, the NO 3 - and NO 2 - were the primary drivers of denitrification, and the total nitrogen (TN) and NH 4 + were the main drivers of anaerobic ammonia oxidation. During the wet season, the dissolved oxygen was the primary driver of ammonification and nitrification functions, the chemical oxygen demand was the primary driver of denitrification, and the TN was the main driver of anaerobic ammonia oxidation. Perchlorate, an aqueous-soluble compound resistant to degradation, is mainly used in the synthesis of pyrotechnics, herbicides, and other products. It serves as a pivotal component in the production of fireworks, rocket fuel, and explosives. Perchlorate was recognized as a pollutant owing to the potential toxic risk to thyroid function, which could pose a potential threat to the nervous system of infants and pregnant women. Some study had found that perchlorate existed in food, water and air. This study aimed to investigate the levels of perchlorate in six types of foods (n = 570) from South China, and evaluate potential exposure risks for residents. Vegetables were found to have the highest median levels of foods, attributed to elevated water content in leafy vegetables and facile solubility of perchlorate in water. The relatively low levels of perchlorate in food compared to other studies could attribute to the fact that the period of food we purchased in this study was during the wet season while the contaminants, such as perchlorate, were diluted. The maximum hazard quotient (HQ) values for all residents consuming different foods and water were all higher than 1 This suggested that there is a potential health risk of perchlorate to residents in South China. Those may be attributed to the high levels of perchlorate in some individual samples of meat and eggs. PM 2.5 is a main atmospheric pollutant with various sources and complex chemical compositions, which are influenced by various factors, such as anthropogenic emissions (AE) and meteorological conditions (MC). MC have a significant impacts on variations in atmospheric pollutant; therefore, emission reduction policies and ambient air quality are non-linearly correlated, which hinders the accurate assessment of the effectiveness of control measures. In this study, we conducted online observations of PM 2.5 and its chemical composition in Hohhot, China, from December 1, 2019, to February 29, 2020, to investigate how the chemical compositions of PM 2.5 respond to the variations in AE and MC. Moreover, the random forest (RF) model was used to quantify the contributions of AE and MC to PM 2.5 and its chemical composition during severe hazes and the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown period. During the clean period, MC reduced PM 2.5 concentrations by 124%, while MC incresed PM 2.5 concentrations by 49% during severe pollution episode. Inorganic aerosols (SO 4 2- , NO 3 - , and NH 4 + ) showed the strongest response to MC. MC significantly contributed to PM 2.5 (36%), SO 4 2- (32%), NO 3 - (29%), NH 4 + (28%), OC (22%), and SOC (17%) levels during pollution episodes. From the pre-lockdown to lockdown period, AE (MC) contributed 52% (48%), 81% (19%), 48% (52%), 68% (32%), 59% (41%), and 288% (-188%) to the PM 2.5 , SO 4 2- , NO 3 - , NH 4 + , OC, and SOC reductions, respectively. The variations in MC (especially the increase in relative humidity) rapidly generated meteorologically sensitive species (SO 4 2- , NO 3 - , and NH 4 + ), which led to severe winter pollution. Nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) in ambient particles are of great concern due to their adverse effects on human health and climate. However, investigations on the characteristics and potential sources of NACs in Southwest China are still scarce. In this study, a field sampling campaign was carried out in the winter of 2022 at a suburban site in Mianyang, Southwest China. A direct injection liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was developed to rapidly determine 10 NACs in fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) extracts. The method was sensitive for the quantification of the NACs, with a limit of quantification (LOQ) in the range of 0.092-0.52 ng mL -1 . Then, the developed method was applied to determine the concentrations of nitrophenols (NPs), nitrocatechols (NCs), nitrosalicylic acids (NSAs), and nitronaphthol in PM 2.5 in Mianyang. The average concentration of total NACs was 78.2 ± 31.2 ng m -3 , with daily concentrations ranging from 20.7 to 127.9 ng m -3 . Among the measured NACs, 4-nitrocatechol was the most abundant, accounting for 57.8% of the NACs in winter. The five NPs compounds together contributed to 14% of the NACs, which was lower than in other Chinese cities due to the warm climate in winter in Southwest China. NSAs and nitronaphthol each accounted for less than 5% of the NACs. Three major sources of NACs were identified based on the principal component analysis, including vehicle emissions, biomass burning, and secondary formation. The significant correlation between individual NACs and NO 2 supported their secondary formation sources. The good correlation between NPs and cloud amount further suggested that gas-phase oxidation was the possible NPs formation mechanism. A two-stage model integrating a spatiotemporal linear mixed effect (STLME) and a geographic weight regression (GWR) model is proposed to improve the meteorological variables-based aerosol optical depth (AOD) retrieval method (Elterman retrieval model-ERM). The proposed model is referred to as the STG-ERM model. The STG-ERM model is applied over the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) region in China for the years 2019 and 2020. The results show that data coverage increased by 39.0% in 2019 and 40.5% in 2020. Cross-validation of the retrieval results versus multi-angle implementation of atmospheric correction (MAIAC) AOD shows the substantial improvement of the STG-ERM model over earlier meteorological models for AOD estimation, with a determination coefficient (R 2 ) of daily AOD of 0.86, root mean squared prediction error (RMSE) and the relative prediction error (RPE) of 0.10 and 36.14% in 2019 and R 2 of 0.86, RMSE of 0.12 and RPE of 37.86% in 2020. The fused annual mean AOD indicates strong spatial variation with high value in south plain and low value in northwestern mountainous areas of the BTH region. The overall spatial seasonal mean AOD ranges from 0.441 to 0.586, demonstrating strongly seasonal variation. The coverage of STG-ERM retrieved AOD, as determined in this exercise by leaving out part of the meteorological data, affects the accuracy of fused AOD. The coverage of the meteorological data has smaller impact on the fused AOD in the districts with low annual mean AOD of less than 0.35 than that in the districts with high annual mean AOD of greater than 0.6. If available, continuous daily meteorological data with high spatiotemporal resolution can improve the model performance and the accuracy of fused AOD. Cadmium (Cd) in paddy soil poses significant risks to humans due to its strong biological migration and toxicity. Chinese milk vetch (MV) is commonly used as green manure in the paddy fields of southern China and its potential to decrease the availability of Cd has been identified. Nevertheless, the effects of MV combined with lime materials (lime, L; limestone, LS) on Cd availability, soil properties, enzyme activity and comprehensive benefits are still not fully understood in double-cropping rice system. A field study was conducted to investigate these changes. The results indicated that all treatments notably decreased soil available Cd (Avail-Cd) by 19.3-44.3% and 14.9-43.1% during early and late rice, compared with CK. Moreover, the Cd fractions transformed to more stable forms. Compared to CK, all treatments reduced brown rice Cd content by 34.6-64.2% and 12.7-52.5% during the two periods. Furthermore, the translocation factors root to shoot, as well as shoot to brown rice, decreased. The combination led to improvements in soil properties, soil enzyme activity. Meantime, Cd in iron-manganese plaque (IMP) decreased by 31.9-51.1% and 29.0-42.7% respectively during two periods in amendments treatments. Soil pH and DOC were more important factors for Cd bioavailability than other properties. Additionally, rice Cd uptake was positively correlated with Cd in IMP. Enzyme activity exhibited a negative correlation with soil active Cd. Partial Least Squares Path Model (PLS-PM) indicated that the mitigation of Cd pollution helped to improve soil enzyme activity. Grey correlation analysis (GRA) indicated that MVLS showed the best comprehensive benefits in soil-plant system. Overall, the combination of MV and lime materials could reduce Cd availability, enhance soil properties and enzyme activity. And this could be strengthened by the combination. Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine-disrupting contaminant, is ubiquitous in the environment due to its presence in plastics, wastewater, and agricultural runoff. This study investigated the photodegradation behavior of BPA in coastal aquaculture waters near Qingdao, China. Lower salinity promoted BPA photodegradation, while higher salinity has an inhibitory effect, suggesting slower degradation in seawater compared to ultrapure water. Triplet-excited dissolved organic matter ( 3 DOM*) was identified as the primary mediator of BPA degradation, with additional contributions from hydroxyl radicals ( • OH), singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ), and halogen radicals (HRS). Alepocephalidae aquaculture water exhibited the fastest degradation rate, likely due to its high DOM and nitrate/nitrite (NO 3 - /NO 2 - ) content, which are sources of 3 DOM* and • OH. A positive correlation existed between NO 3 - /NO 2 - concentration and the BPA degradation rate. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) analysis identified the primary BPA photodegradation products, formed mainly through oxidative degradation, hydroxyl substitution, nitration, and chlorination pathways. Elucidating these photodegradation mechanisms provides valuable insights into the environmental fate and potential ecological risks of BPA in aquaculture environments. Cytokines may related to intrauterine Hepatitis B virus (HBV) transmission. 205 HBsAg(+) pregnant cases and 74 HBsAg(-) women were included. Neonatal blood samples were taken within 24 h of delivery and before HBV vaccinations. Serological HBV biomarkers and cytokines were detected. 21.9 % of the newborns from HBsAg(+) women were intrauterinally transmitted, including 7.3 % with dominant transmission (DBT) and 14.6 % occult transmission (OBT). HBV DNA load (odd ratio [OR], 1.44; 95 % confidence interval [CI], 1.05-1.98), interferon-γ (IFN-γ) (OR, 1.01; 95 %CI, 1.00-1.02) and toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) (OR, 1.27; 95 %CI, 1.06-1.52) positively correlated with DBT. Only IFN-γ (OR, 1.01; 95 %CI, 1.00-1.01) positively associated with OBT. According to the generated restricted cubic spline, TLR9 was positively correlates with rise of DBT in a log-shape. It may be possible to develop a nomogram which intercalates these factors to predict intrauterine HBV transmissions. The impact of shale gas extraction on surrounding environmental media remains unclear. In this study, the current state of contamination by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are high-frequency contaminants of shale gas, was investigated in the soil surrounding emerging shale gas development sites. The source analysis of PAHs was conducted in the soils of shale gas extraction sites using positive matrix factorization (PMF). The health risk assessment (HRA) was calculated for ingestion, dermal contact, and inhalation exposures, and the priority sources of PAHs in the soil were jointly identified by PMF and HRA to refine the contribution level of different individual PAHs to the carcinogenic risk. The results showed that both Sichuan and Chongqing mining site soils were contaminated to different degrees. Shale gas extraction has an impact on the surrounding soil, and the highest contributing source of PAHs in the mining site soil of Sichuan was anthropogenic activity, accounting for 31.6%, whereas that in the mining site soil of Chongqing was biomass combustion and mixed automobile combustion, accounting for 35.9%. At the two mining sites in Sichuan and Chongqing, none of the three exposure pathways (ingestion, dermal contact, and inhalation) posed a carcinogenic risk to children, whereas the dermal exposure pathway posed a carcinogenic risk to adults. As an emerging pollutant, microplastics (MPs) cause widespread concern around the world owing to the serious threat they pose to ecosystems. In particular, sediments are thought to be the long-term sink for the continual accumulation of MPs in freshwater ecosystems. Polyethylene (PE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) have been frequently detected with large concentration variations in freshwater sediments from the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, one of the most economically developed regions in China, characterized by accelerated urbanization and industrialization, high population density and high plastics consumption. However, the impact of PE and PET on the sedimental bacterial community composition and its function has not been well reported for this specific region. Herein, PE and PET particles were added to freshwater sediments to assess the effects of different MP types on the bacterial community and its function, using three concentrations (500, 1500 and 2500 items/kg) per MP and incubations of 35, 105 and 175 days, respectively. This study identified a total of 68 phyla, 211 classes, 518 orders, 853 families and 1745 genera. Specifically, Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Acidobacteriota, Actinobacteriota and Firmicutes were the top five phyla. A higher bacterial diversity was obtained in control sediments than in the MP-treated sediments. The presence of MPs, whether PET or PE, had significant impact on the bacterial diversity, community structure and community composition. PICRUSt2 and FAPOTAX predictions demonstrated that MPs could potentially affect the metabolic pathways and ecologically functional groups of bacteria in the sediment. Besides the MP-related factors, such as the type, concentration and incubation time, the physicochemical parameters had an effect on the structure and function of the bacterial community in the freshwater sediment. Nonylphenol (NP) contamination in the coastal environment of China poses ecological risks to aquatic organisms. However, the endocrine disruptive impacts of NP on bivalves, particularly on ovarian development, remain poorly understood. In this study, Manila clams Ruditapes philippinarum at the developing stage of gonad were exposed to 1.0 μg/L NP for 21 days. Utilizing RNA interference (RNAi) to suppress ER gene expression, we observed a delay in ovarian development as evidenced by histological observations under both NP and NPRi (NP with ER-RNAi) treatment, with Vtg elevation exclusive to the NP group. Comprehensive analyses encompassing transcriptomics, real-time quantitative PCR, and steroid hormone measurement revealed significant alterations in aldosterone synthesis, estrogen signaling, and thyroid hormone synthesis. These pathways showed similar perturbations in both NP and NPRi groups compared to controls. Notably, the NPRi group exhibited distinct enrichment in PPAR and insulin signaling pathways, may implicating these in ER function suppression. Steroid hormone biosynthesis was notably reduced in both treatments, pointing to a profound impact on hormone synthesis. The contrast between in vivo and in vitro findings suggests that NP's detrimental effects on ovarian development may primarily involve neuroendocrine regulation of steroidogenesis. To assess the efficacy of these measures, this study measured typical categories of intermediate/semi volatile organic compounds (I/SVOCs), including alkanes (C 10 -C 26 n-alkanes and pristane), EPA-priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), alkylnaphthalenes, benzothiazole (BTH) and chlorobenzenes (CBs), at an urban site of Shanghai before and during two CIIE events (2019 and 2020; non-CIIE versus CIIE). The average concentrations of alkanes and PAHs during both 2019 and 2020 CIIE events decreased by approximately 41% and 17%, respectively, compared to non-CIIE periods. However, the decline in BTH and CBs was only observed during CIIE-2019. Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation from alkanes, PAHs and BTH was evaluated under atmospheric conditions, revealing considerable SOA contributions from dimethylnaphthalenes and BTH. Positive matrix factorization (PMF) analysis further revealed that life-related sources, such as cooking and residential emissions, make a noticeable contribution (21.6%) in addition to the commonly concerned gasoline-vehicle sources (31.5%), diesel-related emissions (20.8%), industrial emissions (18.6%) and ship emissions (7.5%). These findings provide valuable insights into the efficacy of the implemented measures in reducing atmospheric I/SVOCs levels. Mercury (Hg) is a global environmental concern that affects both humans and ecosystem. The comprehensive understanding of sources and dynamics is crucial for facilitating targeted and effective control strategies. Herein, a robust approach integrating Multivariate Statistics, Geostatistics, and Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) was employed to quantitatively elucidate the distribution and sources of Hg in agricultural lands. Results indicated elevated Hg concentrations in the land with 74.46% of soils, including 84.85% of topsoil, 69.70% of subsoil, and 67.31% of deepsoil, exceeding risk screening value. Geoaccumulation Index of Hg in soil surpassed level Ⅱ with more than 50% of Hg in the residual fraction regardless of the layer or location. The levels of Hg in surface water for irrigation exhibited a negative correlation with the distance from the mine and a positive correlation with that in sediment (R 2 >0.78, p < 0.01), suggesting the downstream migration and remobilization from sediment. Source apportion revealed that human activities as primary contributors despite high variability across locations and soil layers. Contributions to downstream soil Hg from Natural Background (NB), Primary Ore Mining (OM), Agricultural Practices (AP), and Wastewater Irrigation (WI) were 15.5%, 83.1%, 1.3%, and 0.1%, respectively. The European Commission's current efforts to launch the largest proposal to restrict per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in history reflect the dire global plight of PFAS accumulation in the environment and their health impacts. While there are existing studies on PFAS research, there is a lack of comprehensive analysis that both covers the entire research period and provides deep insights into global research patterns, incentives, and barriers based on various parameters. We have been able to demonstrate the increasing interest in PFAS research, although citation numbers are declining prematurely. Policy regulations based on proving and establishing the toxicity of PFASs have stimulated research in developed countries and vice versa, with increasing emphasis on ecological aspects. China, in particular, is investing increasingly in PFAS research, but without defining or implementing regulations - with devastating effects. The separation of industrial and environmental research interests is clear, with little involvement of developing countries, even though their exposure to PFAS is devastating. Antibiotics have garnered growing attention as pharmaceuticals ubiquitously present in human society. Within the soil environment, antibiotics exhibit a propensity for high environmental persistence, thereby posing a potential threat to the ecosystem. However, research on antibiotics in agricultural-pastoral ecotone soils is scarce. This study investigates the occurrence, distribution and risk of 11 common antibiotics in agricultural soils of the agro-pastoral transition zone in Horqin Left Middle Banner, eastern Inner Mongolia. The total concentration varies from not detectable to 609.62 μg/kg. Tetracyclines are the dominant antibiotic, with a higher detection frequency than Macrolides and Sulfonamides. The detection rates of the three types of antibiotics differ significantly. The study also finds that soil properties (organic matter content, pH, bulk density, clay, cation exchange capacity have no significant correlation with antibiotics in soil. Moreover, spatial regression analysis reveals that population density is the primary factor influencing the spatial distribution of antibiotics in soil. Two fish species from the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, China, were sampled to investigate the occurrence, tissue distribution, age-dependent accumulation and ecological risk assessment of 24 organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs). Seventeen OPFRs were detected in tissue samples with a total concentration ranging from not detected (ND) to 1092 ng g -1 dw. Cl-OPFRs were predominant in all tissues (mean: 145 ng g -1 dw, median: 72.9 ng g -1 dw) and the concentrations of OPFRs in brain were the greatest (crucian carp: 525 ng g -1 dw, silver carp: 56.0 ng g -1 dw) compared with the other three organs (e.g., liver, muscle and gonad). Furthermore, the total concentrations of OPFRs in crucian carp tissues were significantly greater than those in silver carp (P < 0.01). Age-dependent accumulation of OPFRs was observed in the two fish species, but the accumulation profiles in the two fish species were different.
