Abstract

The article discusses the application benefits which can be obtained from the erbium (Er)-doped double-clad fibers. Topics discussed include the absorption bands possessed by Er ions, the rate of energy transfer favored by co-doping the silica glass matrix, and the use of the first cladding as a pump guide.
