We present an adaptation of a new Keynesian model into an agent-based computational model, accounting for the importance of heterogeneity, interaction and bounded rationality in problems such as price setting and expectations formation. We evaluate the evolution of the distribution of price setting strategy frequencies, which agents might choose on each period between inflationary, neutral or deflationary, a process based on private and social features of agents’ utility functions. In addition, we consider the network’s topological structure and find that the regular network model fails in replicating exactly the new Keynesian model’s original results, while the complex network model presents results in accordance with the originals.

In recent years, there has been a democratization of access to public universities in the country, allowing the appearance of new student profiles in the university environment. Access to the university by members of the lower classes was an important step towards overcoming social inequalities. However, internal differences between students of upper and lower socioeconomic classes still persist, reflecting the inequalities in the broader society. This article focuses on the role of the Science Without Borders program in the social inclusion of undergraduate students (former scholarship holders) from Unicamp, based on the application of a methodology that identified the intersectional profile of the program's beneficiaries. The results indicate that, although Science Without Borders offers mechanisms that allow social inclusion, the main beneficiaries had a very specific student profile - male, white, previous attendees of private high schools, not PAAIS entrants and without special needs. This is precisely the most frequent student profile in the conventional international mobility programs maintained by Unicamp. Such results reinforce the idea that overcoming social inequalities and marginality for this new profile of students does not end with access to university, and that are other obstacles need to be removed. more...

Objective: The aim was evaluate the validity and reproducibility of the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) in detecting occlusal caries among graduate students after training using the e-learning program. Methods: A sample of forty-two primary teeth with different ranges of occlusal caries was selected. All teeth were mounted on a wax support and standardized photographs (EOS Rebel XTI, Canon, NY, USA) of the occlusal surfaces were taken. An experienced researcher randomly selected one specific site on the occlusal surface of each tooth to be examined later. Fifteen graduate students with no previous experience in the ICDAS scores completed the ICDAS e-learning program in Portuguese. After the training, visual examination of the occlusal surfaces was taken twice, independently, with a two-week interval. After visual examination, the teeth were longitudinally sectioned 1mm away from the previously selected occlusal site. The teeth were fixed on a wax support and photographed. Histological analysis was performed from these photographs by an experienced researcher to evaluate the depth of demineralization. Results: The Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) inter-examiner values among all participants varied from 0.54 to 0.96 and intra-examiner ICC reproducibility of the examiners ranges from 0.61 to 0.85, showing good to excellent reproducibility. For detection of enamel and dentine lesions (D1), ICDAS obtained sensitivity 0.835 and specificity 0.756. For dentine lesions (D3), the method revealed an increase in sensitivity but specificity was similar to D1. Conclusion: ICDAS e-learning training program was efficient for the training of caries lesions detection among graduate students.

Objective: To analyze if the oral health conditions in children and adolescents are associated with hemophilia (PROSPERO-42020168192). Material and Methods: The search strategy was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Lilacs/BBO, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Grey literature databases. Two independent researchers assessed the risk of bias in these studies by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. For the meta-analysis, the clinical conditions data were extracted as numerical variables according to their indexes, such as dental caries experience (dmft/DMFT), gingival condition (Modified Gingival Index - IGM), and oral hygiene (Plaque Index - PI). The quality of the evidence of the meta-analysis was evaluated by the GRADE tool (GRADEproGDT). Results: From a total of 431 studies, 27 were included, and 10 were included in the meta-analysis. The studies presented a moderate risk of bias, ranging from 2 to 7 points. The dental caries experience in primary (-0.62; CI95%: -1.68–0.43) and permanent dentitions (-0.05; CI95%: -0.69–0.59), gingival condition (-0.12; CI95%: -0.27–0.03), and oral hygiene (0.36; CI95%: -0.06–0.77) did not differ between the groups. Conclusion: Based on studies with very weak evidence, there were no differences in the oral health conditions of children and adolescents with and without hemophilia. more...

Objective: To evaluate the impact of daily toothbrushing frequency on parental reports of dental pain and discomfort in preschoolers. Material and Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted involving 376 children between four and five years of age at public preschools in the city of Campo Magro, Brazil. Parents/guardians answered a socioeconomic questionnaire that contained a single question on the child's daily toothbrushing frequency and the Brazilian version of the Dental Discomfort Questionnaire (DDQ-B). Statistical analysis involved bivariate and multivariate Poisson regression analyses (α=0.05). Results: After the adjustments in the multivariate analysis, the prevalence of dental pain and discomfort was lower among children whose last visit to the dentist was for prevention (PR = 4.42; 95% CI: 1.75– 11.14; p=0.002) and those with a higher daily toothbrushing frequency (PR = 2.13; 95% CI: 1.12–4.05; p=0.021). Conclusion: A lower toothbrushing frequency is associated with parental reports of dental pain and discomfort in preschoolers. Educational and preventive measures that stimulate an increase in daily toothbrushing frequency can contribute to a better oral health status in preschoolers, consequently, less prevalence of dental pain and discomfort. more...

Objective To evaluate the nutritional and functional status, swallowing disorders, and musculoskeletal manifestations of patients with Post-Covid-19 Syndrome, stratified by the Appendicular Skeletal Muscle Mass Index. Methods This is a cross-sectional study with patients diagnosed with Post-Covid-19 Syndrome after discharge from the intensive care unit of a university hospital. The evaluated outcomes were: nutritional status (Mini Nutritional Assessment, bioimpedance and anthropometry), swallowing disorders (Dysphagia Risk Evaluation Protocol), functional status (Post-Covid-19 Functional Status Scale), and musculoskeletal manifestations. According to the Appendicular Skeletal Muscle Mass Index, patients were stratified in terms of loss or not loss of muscle mass. Results Thirty-eight patients were included in the study, 20 stratified into the no loss of muscle mass group (17 females; 49.45±12.67 years) and 18 into the loss of muscle mass group (18 males; 61.89±12.49 years). Both groups were at risk of malnutrition (Mini Nutritional Assessment scores between 17–23.5 points; No Loss of Muscle Mass Group: 21.82±3.93; Loss of Muscle Mass Group: 23.33±3.41) and obesity (No Loss of Muscle Mass Group: 33.76±6.34; Loss of Muscle Mass Group: 30.23±3.66). The groups differed in terms of bioimpedance parameters (except fat mass) and age. However, there were no differences in swallowing alterations, functional status, and musculoskeletal manifestations. Conclusion Patients with Post-Covid-19 Syndrome, stratified according to the Appendicular Skeletal Muscle Mass Index, were at risk of malnutrition and obesity. The persistence of fatigue, weakness, myalgia and arthralgia at 6 months after hospital discharge is noteworthy. These findings emphasize the importance of comprehensive care for patients with Post-Covid-19 Syndrome. more...

Clinically, MIH may be detected in parents and/or siblings of MIH-affected children. Our study included children with at least one first permanent molar affected by MIH (proband) and their first-degree relatives (parents and siblings). The participants were examined clinically to detect MIH, according to the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry criteria (2003). A total of 101 nuclear families (391 individuals) were studied. Proband diagnosis was followed by MIH classification of the subject, his parents and siblings, as affected, unaffected, or unknown. Segregation analysis was performed using the multivariate logistic regression model of the Statistical Analysis for Genetic Epidemiology package, and segregation models (general transmission, environmental, major gene, dominant, codominant and recessive models). The Akaike information criterion (AIC) was used to evaluate the most parsimonious model. In all, 130 affected individuals, 165 unaffected individuals, and 96 unknown individuals were studied. Severe MIH was found in 50.7% of the cases. A segregation analysis performed for MIH revealed the following different models: environmental and dominance (p = 0.05), major gene (p = 0.04), codominant (p = 0.15) and recessive models (p = 0.03). According to the AIC values, the codominant model was the most parsimonious (AIC = 308.36). Our results suggest that the codominant model could be the most likely for inheriting MIH. This result strengthens the evidence that genetic factors, such as multifactorial complex defect, influence MIH. Objective: To assess the effect of amoxicillin and of the combination of amoxicillin and fluoride on enamel mineralization in rats. Methodology: In total, 40 rats were randomly assigned to four groups: control group (CG); amoxicillin group (AG-amoxicillin (500 mg/kg/day), fluoride group (FG-fluoridated water (100 ppm-221 mg F/L), and amoxicillin + fluoride group (AFG). After 60 days, the samples were collected from plasma and tibiae and analyzed for fluoride (F) concentration. The incisors were also collected to determine the severity of fluorosis using the Dental Fluorosis by Image Analysis (DFIA) software, concentration of F, measurements of enamel thickness, and hardness. The data were analyzed by ANOVA, Tukey’s post-hoc test, or Games-Howell post-hoc test (α=0.05). Results: Enamel thickness of the incisors did not differ statistically among the groups (p=0.228). Groups exposed to fluoride (AFG and FG) have higher F concentrations in plasma, bone and teeth than those not exposed to fluoride (CG and AG). The groups showed a similar behavior in the DFIA and hardness test, with the FG and AFG groups showing more severe fluorosis defects and significant lower hardness when compared with the AG and CG groups, with no difference from each other. Conclusion: The rats exposed to fluoride or fluoride + amoxicillin developed dental fluorosis, while exposure to amoxicillin alone did not lead to enamel defects. ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the challenges of access to medicines in four universal health systems in Australia, Brazil, Canada and the United Kingdom. Critical-reflexive qualitative study through Integrative Literature Review. The great challenge of the systems studied is the incorporation of high-cost drugs, through cost-effectiveness analyses to fulfill the difficult task of reconciling social justice and access equity with economic sustainability. Canada, in particular, despite being a developed country, still deals with the dilemma of how to finance a health system in which access to medicines is also universal. Brazil deals with two problematic realities: first, to grant access to medicines that are already standardized by the Unified Health System (SUS), in the face of insufficient funding. Secondly, similarly to the Australian, Canadian, and English systems, the dilemma of how to incorporate new efficient medicines considering its economic feasibility, as well as the issue of health judicialization, a complex phenomenon resulting from public fragility in the organization, financing, and consolidation of the SUS. more...

ABSTRACT: Bovine anaplasmosis is a major cause of production losses and deaths in Rio Grande do Sul cattle herds. Anaplasma sp. is the main causative agent of cattle disease. It causes hyperthermia, anemia, prostration, abortions and reduces milk production in affected animals. In order to control this hemoparasite on a dairy farm located in the municipality of Eldorado do Sul in Rio Grande do Sul, where the disease incidence was high, 471 animals were immunized with Anaplasma centrale in the search for cross-protectiv immunity for Anaplasma marginale. The property anaplasmosis incidence, which usually was above 30%, became 5% after the immunization. However, abortions were observed resulting from innoculaition, especially in animals that had less than 90 days of pregnancy. The global number of deaths on the farm dropped considerably given that the main cause of death was the bovine anaplasmosis. 15% of animals inoculated with A. centrale showed clinical symptoms of the disease between 15 and 30 days after immunization and had to be treated with oxytetracycline. The amount of money spent with anaplasmosis treatment decay 85% after the immunization, which caused significant economic impact on the property. more...

Objective: To identify the clinical and radiographic conditions associated with failure of pulp therapy in primary teeth through a survival analysis. Material and Methods: A total of 1000 records of children assisted at the pediatric dentistry clinic of the Federal University of Parana, Brazil, from the years 2000 to 2010, were analyzed. The mean evaluation time was 10.61 months (minimum/maximum: 1/28) from the report of pulp therapy. The different types of treatments analyzed included indirect pulp treatment (IPT), direct pulp treatment (DPT), pulpotomy and pulpectomy. The Kaplan-Meyer method and log-rank test were used for the survival analysis. Exodontia was considered as the outcome variable and censors included: traumatic tooth loss, presence of the tooth in the oral cavity and physiologic tooth exfoliation . Results: A total of 122 records reporting pulp therapy in the primary teeth were selected. From this, 16 teeth (13.12%) were extracted. Survival analysis showed that pulpectomy presented lower survival rates when compared to conservative therapies (p=0.0297). Teeth with furcal lesions and pathological root resorption before pulp therapy had lower survival rates when compared to those that did not present these conditions (P=0.006). Presence of fistula and abscess after pulp therapy were also associated with lower survival rates (P=0.0062 and 0.0143, respectively) . Conclusion: Signals of pulp necrosis were associated to lower survival rates in primary teeth submitted to pulp therapy. more...

The present research aims at evaluating the physical, chemical and synergistic effects of substitution 25% cement in mass by limestone filler (LF), fly ash (FA) and rice husk ash (RHA), in similarity of physical condition (near grain size curves), and to compare the different binary and ternary mixtures of concrete after 28 days of wet curing, keeping the ratio water/cement (w/c) constant. The concrete samples were characterized in relation to the axial compressive strength and their microstructure using TG/DTA and MEV/EDS techniques. The CCA in the binary mixture was the one that obtained bigger compressive strength among the investigated mixtures, but when combined with a less reactive mineral addition in ternary mixtures, an overlap of chemical and physical effects occurred which resulted in better resistance and higher C-S-H formation in the hardened cement paste.

ABSTRACT The correct selection of lubricating oils and contact surfaces improves performance and reduces the energy consumption of the machines. Therefore, surface engineering proposes new coatings to which their tribological behavior combined with the use of biodegradable oils in hydraulic system components are unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the behavior of the mineral oil - HLP and the synthetic biodegradable - HEES, subjected to sliding of a pin made of Cu-35Zn alloy, against a flat surface coated with WC-10Co4Cr by high-speed thermal spraying - HVOF. The combination of biodegradable oils with surfaces of lesser environmental impact is important for the sustainability and growth of the modern industry. The performance of the lubricants was evaluated by means of sliding tests on a pin-on-disc tribometer, modifying the loads, to identify the lubrication, friction and wear regimes. The tests indicated that the average coefficient of friction was μHEES = 0,054 and μHLP = 0,044, so the limit of the lubrication regimes was close. The minimum film thickness hmín was 23 % higher for HLP and the obtained values of the film parameter (λ) were different from the results of other surfaces. In the evaluation of the wear of the pin and disk, it was found to that the higher concentrations of the additives of Zn and P, found in the HLP, reduces the surface damage. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the type of surfaces lubricated with oils of the HEES type, as well as changes in additive concentrations should be made. more...

Guedes-Pinto paste is the filling material most employed in Brazil for endodontic treatment of deciduous teeth; however, the Rifocort® ointment has been removed. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial potential of filling pastes, by proposing three new pharmacological associations to replace Rifocort® ointment with drugs of already established antimicrobial power: Nebacetin® ointment, 2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate gel, and Maxitrol® ointment. A paste composed of Iodoform, Rifocort® ointment and Camphorated Paramonochlorophenol (CPC) was employed as the gold standard (G1). The other associations were: Iodoform, Nebacetin® ointment and CPC (G2); Iodoform, 2% Chlorhexidine Digluconate gel and CPC (G3); Iodoform, Maxitrol® ointment and CPC (G4). The associations were tested for Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans), Streptococcus oralis (S. oralis), Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis), Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis), using the methods of dilution on solid medium – orifice agar – and broth dilution. The results were tested using statistical analysis ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis. They showed that all the pastes had a bacteriostatic effect on all the microorganisms, without any statistically significant difference, compared with G1. S. aureus was statistically significant (multiple comparison test of Tukey), insofar as G2 and G3 presented the worst and the best performance, respectively. All associations were bactericidal for E. coli, S. aureus, S. mutans and S. oralis. Only G3 and G4 were bactericidal for E. faecalis, whereas no product was bactericidal for B. subtilis. Thus, the tested pastes have antimicrobial potential and have proved acceptable for endodontic treatment of primary teeth. more...

Spot blotch disease, caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana, is one of the major diseases of wheat and is responsible for large losses of wheat crops worldwide. We used polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with universal rice primers (URP) for molecular characterization of 60 monosporic B. sorokiniana isolates from Brazil and other countries, and evaluated the diversity of the samples. PCR amplification generated 232 different DNA fragments ranging in size from 100 to 2018 bp. The primers URP-4R, URP-2R, and URP-1F generated greater numbers of amplified fragments (36, 30, and 25, respectively) from the single-spore isolates, and some diversity was observed among the isolates generated using these primers. The primers URP-2F, URP-6R, URP-17R, URP-30F, and URP-38F produced a pattern of monomorphic fragments and 73% of the isolates showed an average of 44 different DNA-amplified fragments. Primer URP-2F generated a 578-bp fragment that was common to 83.7% of the isolates; primer URP-6R generated a 548-bp fragment and primer URP-38F generated a 650- bp product that was common to 89.1% and 80% of the isolates, respectively. The URP-PCR primers provided important information about the genetic profiles of the monosporic cultures, which showed intraspecific variability among the monoconidial isolates and among the monosporic cultures that originated from the same polysporic strain. Our results indicate that URP’s are sensitive and give reproducible results for assaying the genetic variability of B. sorokiniana. more...
