Abstract
The article reviews the history of the proposed boundary of Illinois that could have ceded 51 miles of the territory to Wisconsin in 1848. Topics covered include moving the Illinois border that has added farmland and lakefront through congressional delegate Nathaniel Pope and linkage of Illinois and Mississippi Rivers to the Great Lakes. Also mentioned are shifts in waterways due to glaciers that realigned the Mississipi River and the siesmic activity that lowered Cache River Valley elevation.

It mentions that rising values will affect the beef producers because pasture has trailed up behind farmland.
