- Abstract
The article discusses the discovery of paleochristian mosaics of the episcopal group of Marseilles that were made during recent archeological excavations at the site de la Major, located at the epicenter of the southern French port-city of Marseilles, with particular focus given to an array of topics surrounding the conservation and restoration of ruins, in the light of the acceleration of the process of urban renewal in the area. The author presents a portrait of the site de la Major, and discusses its history during the paleochristian era. Additional topics mentioned include the history of civilization and the religious history of Marseilles, as well as the conservations and restoration of roman mosaics.
