IntroductionStudies have not sufficiently clarified the differences in citation impact between funded and non-funded clinical research papers. Hence, this study seeks to evaluate the relation between research funding status and clinical research papers’ citation impact in different research fields using multiple evaluation indices.MethodsIn this cross-sectional bibliometric study, clinical research papers published by core clinical research hospitals in Japan were compared retrospectively in terms of times cited (TC), category normalized citation impact (CNCI), citation percentile (CP), journal impact factor (JIF), the Software to Identify, Manage, and Analyze Scientific Publications (SIGAPS) category, and whether they were the funded clinical research. The association between research funding status or the SIGAPS category and CNCI ≥ 2 was analyzed using logistic regression analysis.Results11 core clinical research hospitals published 553 clinical research papers, of which 120 were non-funded and 433 were funded (public institution-funded and industry-funded). The study found that funded clinical research papers (public institution-funded and industry-funded) had significantly higher TC, CNCI, CP, and JIF than non-funded ones [TC: 8 (3–17) vs. 14 (8–31), p < 0.001; CNCI: 0.53 (0.19–0.97) vs. 0.87 (0.45–1.85), p < 0.001; CP: 51.9 (24.48–70.42) vs. 66.7 (40.53–88.01), p < 0.001; JIF: 2.59 (1.90–3.84) vs. 2.93 (2.09–4.20) p = 0.008], while the proportion of A or B rank clinical research papers of the SIGAPS category was not significantly different between the two groups (30.0 vs. 34.9%, p = 0.318). In the logistic regression analysis, having a CNCI ≥ 2 was significantly associated with research funding (public institution-funded and industry-funded) and publication in A or B rank journals of the SIGAPS category [research funding: Estimate 2.169, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.153–4.083, p = 0.016; SIGAPS category A/B: Estimate 6.126, 95% CI 3.889–9.651, p < 0.001].ConclusionAnalysis via multiple indicators including CNCI and the SIGAPS category, which allows for a comparison of the papers’ citation impact in different research fields, found a positive relation between research funding status and the citation impact of clinical research papers.

Background: This study used bibliometrics to define and analyze the characteristics of the first 100 most cited papers on the topic of neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC). Methods: We explored the Web of Science Core Collection database, and screened the top 100 most frequently cited articles and reviews with the title NEPC or small cell prostate cancer (SCPC). We conducted bibliometrics research on the screening results to identify the most influential journals and authors in the field of NEPC. Results: The first 100 most cited papers have been cited a total of 14,795 times, from 73 to 833 times (mean ± standard deviation, 147.95 ± 101.68). All top 100 most cited papers were published from 1984 to 2019, and the total number of citations for papers published in 2016 was significantly higher than that for papers published in other years. The journal with the largest number of published papers is "Prostate" (n=8). "Neuroendocrine differentiation" has become the most frequently used author keyword. "Oncology" is the most popular topic in the field of NEPC. Conclusion: We analyzed the first 100 most cited papers in the NEPC field by collecting detailed information, which provide guiding opinions for finding the most influential journals and authors in NEPC-related fields. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the top 100 most cited papers and research trends on endometrial carcinoma via bibliometric methods. Methods: On the 1st of March 2022, the top 100 most cited papers regarding endometrial carcinoma published from 1971 to 2021 were identified through searching Web of Science Core Collection database and the following data: title, author, journal, publication year, country and institution were extracted. Microsoft Office Excel (2019) was used for descriptive statistical analysis. VOSviewer (1.6.18) was used to perform and visualize co-authorship analysis and co-occurrence analysis. Results: These 100 papers were cited a total of 45, 685 times, and the mean number of citations was 456.85 (range, 228 to 2487). Most papers were published between 1996 and 2000, and between 2006 and 2010. The Lancet published the largest number of papers (n=12), followed by Gynecologic Oncology (n=11). Most of the papers were from the United States (n=58), followed by Italy (n=8) and Netherlands (n=7). Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, University of California San Francisco and University of Southern California (all in United States) contributed the most papers (n=4, respectively). Nicoletta Colombo contributed the most papers (n=3) as the corresponding author. The co-occurrence keywords were classified into three clusters: cluster 1 (epidemiology study), cluster 2 (molecular biology study) and cluster 3 (clinical treatment study). Early research that was published prior to 2005 in this field was mainly focused on epidemiology and molecular biology; the mean publication year for keywords in cluster 3 was later than other clusters. The keywords "external-beam radiotherapy," "uterine serous carcinoma," and "intermediate-risk" showed relatively later mean publication year and lower mean frequency of occurrence. Conclusions: This study provides medical researchers with bibliometric information relating to endometrial carcinoma. Our results show that the United States is a clear leader in this field. The clinical treatment of endometrial carcinoma has received increasing levels of attention over recent years and is likely to remain a major area of research in the future. Background: The purpose of this study was to define and analyze the characteristics of the top 100 most-cited articles and reviews on the topic of pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) by using bibliometric methods. Methods: We explored the Web of Science Core Collection database to gather the 100 top-cited original articles and reviews of PPGL from 1985 to 20 December 2020. We conducted a bibliometric study to identify the most influential journals, authors, countries, and institutions in the PPGL field. Results: The 100 top-cited papers were cited a total number of 25,723 times, ranging from 131 to 1,144 (mean, 257.23 ± 173.64). All of these 100 top-cited papers were published between 1999 and 2017, and the number of top-cited papers published before 2008 (1999–2008) was significantly higher than that after 2008 (2009–2017) (p = 0.043). The journal with the highest number of published papers is the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (n = 23). The United States was the most productive country in this topic, which published about half of these publications (n = 51). The National Institutes of Health (NIH) had the largest number of publications (n = 17). Genes or genetics is still the hottest topic in the field of PPGLs. Background: Neuropathic pain research has grown impressively in the past two decades, as evidenced by improvements in research quality and increments in the number of research papers. In views of this situation, the use of quantitative measurements to analyze and characterize existing research has become imperative. The aim of this research is to identify and analyze the 100 most-cited papers in neuropathic pain research. Methods: Neuropathic pain-related articles published between 2000 and 2020 were screened from Web of Science (WOS) by using the following subject terms: TI = (Neuralgia$ OR Neurodynia$ OR "Neuropathic pain" OR sciatica OR "Nerve pain$"). The publications were ranked in a descending order on the basis of citation counts, and the top 100 most-cited neuropathic pain papers were determined. Subsequently, we conducted a bibliometric study to determine the authors, journals, countries, and institutions that contributed the most to the top 100 neuropathic pain lists; describe the keywords and hotspots of the top 100 most-cited papers; and explore the factors associated with successful citations. Results: The top 100 most-cited papers were published from 2000 to 2017, and 2003 had the largest number of published papers (n = 16). The mean number of citations per paper was 480.72, with a range of 262–1,569. Forty-four kinds of journals contributed to the top 100 most-cited papers, which were predominantly published in "Pain" (n = 23). The USA was determined to be the leader of neuropathic pain research in terms of quality and quantity. Background: From time to time, neuroimaging research findings receive press coverage and attention by the general public. Scientific articles therefore should be written in a readable manner to facilitate knowledge translation and dissemination. However, no published readability report on neuroimaging articles like those published in education, medical and marketing journals is available. As a start, this study therefore aimed to evaluate the readability of the most-cited neuroimaging articles.Methods: The 100 most-cited articles in neuroimaging identified in a recent study by Kim et al. (2016) were evaluated. Headings, mathematical equations, tables, figures, footnotes, appendices, and reference lists were trimmed from the articles. The rest was processed for number of characters, words and sentences. Five readability indices that indicate the school grade appropriate for that reading difficulty (Automated Readability Index, Coleman-Liau Index, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning Fog index and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook index) were computed. An average reading grade level (AGL) was calculated by taking the mean of these five indices. The Flesch Reading Ease (FRE) score was also computed. The readability of the trimmed abstracts and full texts was evaluated against number of authors, country of corresponding author, total citation count, normalized citation count, article type, publication year, impact factor of the year published and type of journal.Results: Mean AGL ± standard deviation (SD) of the trimmed abstracts and full texts were 17.15 ± 2.81 (college graduate level) and 14.22 ± 1.66 (college level) respectively. Mean FRE score ± SD of the abstracts and full texts were 15.70 ± 14.11 (college graduate level) and 32.11 ± 8.56 (college level) respectively. Both items indicated that the full texts were significantly more readable than the abstracts (p < 0.001). Abstract readability was not associated with any factors under investigation. ANCOVAs showed that review/meta-analysis (mean AGL ± SD: 16.0 ± 1.4) and higher impact factor significantly associated with lower readability of the trimmed full texts surveyed.Conclusion: Concerning the 100 most-cited articles in neuroimaging, the full text appears to be more readable than the abstracts. Experimental articles and methodology papers were more readable than reviews/meta-analyses. Articles published in journals with higher impact factors were less readable.

Organoid technology has been developed rapidly in the past decade, which involves the exploration of the mechanism of development, regeneration and various diseases, and intersects among multiple disciplines. Thousands of literature on 3D-culture or organoids have been published in the research areas of cell biology tissue engineering, nanoscience, oncology and so on, resulting in it being challenging for researchers to timely summarize these studies. Bibliometric statistics is a helpfulway to help researchers clarify the above issues efficiently andmanage the whole landscape systematically. In our study, all original articles on organoids were included in the Web of Science database from January 2009 to May 2024, and related information was collected and analyzed using Excel software, "bibliometrix" packages of the R software, VOSviewer and CiteSpace. As results, a total of 6222 papers were included to classify the status quo of the organoids and predict future research areas. Our findings highlight a growing trend in publications related to organoids, with the United States and Netherlands leading in this field. The University of California System, Harvard University, Utrecht University and Utrecht University Medical Center have emerged as pivotal contributors and the key authors in the field include Clevers, H, Beekman, JM and Spence JR. Our results also revealed that the research hotspots and trends of organoids mainly focused on clinical treatment, drug screening, and the application of materials and technologies such as "hydrogel" and "microfluidic technology" in organoids. Next, we had an in-depth interpretation of the development process of organoid research area, including the emergence of technology, the translation from bench to bedsides, the profiles of the most widely studied types of organoids, the application of materials and technologies, and the emerging organoid-immune co-cultures trends. Furthermore,we also discussed the pitfalls, challenges and prospects of organoid technology. Background: The utilization of antibiotic adjuvants presents a promising strategy for addressing bacterial resistance. Recently, the development of antibiotic adjuvants has attracted considerable attention from researchers in academia and industry. This study aimed to identify the most influential publications on antibiotic adjuvants and elucidate the hotspots and research trends in this field. Method: Original articles and reviews related to antibiotic adjuvants were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The top 100 highly cited publications were selected and the visual analyses of publication outputs, countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords were conducted using Excel, VOSviewer, or CtieSpace software tools. Results: The top 100 cited publications concerning antibiotic adjuvants spanned the years 1977-2020, with citation counts ranging from 174 to 2,735. These publications encompassed 49 original articles and 51 reviews. The journal "Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy" accounted for the highest number of publications (12%). The top 100 cited publications emanated from 39 countries, with the United States leading in production. Institutions in Canada and the United States exhibited the most substantial contributions to these highly cited publications. A total of 526 authors participated in these studies, with Robert E. W. Hancock, Laura J. V. Piddock, Xian-Zhi Li, Hiroshi Nikaido, and Olga Lomovskaya emerging as the most frequently nominated authors. The most common keywords included "E. coli", "P. aeruginosa", "S. aureus", "in-vitro activity", "antimicrobial peptide", "efflux pump inhibitor" "efflux pump", "MexAB-OprM" and "mechanism". These keywords underscored the hotspots of bacterial resistance mechanisms and the development of novel antibiotic adjuvants. Conclusion: Through the bibliometric analysis, this study identified the top 100 highly cited publications on antibiotic adjuvants. Introduction: In recent years, graph neural network has been extensively applied to drug discovery research. Although researchers have made significant progress in this field, there is less research on bibliometrics. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of graph neural network applications in drug discovery in order to identify current research hotspots and trends, as well as serve as a reference for future research. Methods: Publications from 2017 to 2023 about the application of graph neural network in drug discovery were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometrix, VOSviewer, and Citespace were mainly used for bibliometric studies. Results and Discussion: In this paper, a total of 652 papers from 48 countries/regions were included. Research interest in this field is continuously increasing. China and the United States have a significant advantage in terms of funding, the number of publications, and collaborations with other institutions and countries. Although some cooperation networks have been formed in this field, extensive worldwide cooperation still needs to be strengthened. The results of the keyword analysis clarified that graph neural network has primarily been applied to drugtarget interaction, drug repurposing, and drug-drug interaction, while graph convolutional neural network and its related optimization methods are currently the core algorithms in this field. Data availability and ethical supervision, balancing computing resources, and developing novel graph neural network models with better interpretability are the key technical issues currently faced. This paper analyzes the current state, hot spots, and trends of graph neural network applications in drug discovery through bibliometric approaches, as well as the current issues and challenges in this field. Time is an important dimension of brain function, but little is yet known about the underlying cognitive principles and neurobiological mechanisms. The field of timing and time perception has witnessed tremendous growth and multidisciplinary interest in the recent years with the advent of modern neuroimaging and neurophysiological approaches. In this article, I used a data mining approach to analyze the timing literature published by a select group of researchers (n = 202) during the period 2000-2015 and highlight important reviews as well as empirical articles that meet the criterion of a minimum of 100 citations. The qualifying articles (n = 150) are listed in a table along with key details such as number of citations, names of authors, year and journal of publication as well as a short summary of the findings of each study. The results of such a data-driven approach to literature review not only serve as a useful resource to any researcher interested in timing, but also provides a means to evaluate key papers that have significantly influenced the field and summarize recent progress and popular research trends in the field. Additionally, such analyses provides food for thought about future scientific directions and raises important questions about improving organizational structures to boost open science and progress in the field. I discuss exciting avenues for future research that have the potential to significantly advance our understanding of the neurobiology of timing, and propose the establishment of a new society to promote open science and collaborative work within the highly diverse and multidisciplinary community of researchers in the field of timing and time perception.

High citations most often characterize quality research that reflects the foci of the discipline. This study aims to spotlight the most recent hot topics and the trends looming from the highly cited papers (HCPs) in Web of Science category of linguistics and language & linguistics with bibliometric analysis. The bibliometric information of the 143 HCPs based on Essential Citation Indicators was retrieved and used to identify and analyze influential contributors at the levels of journals, authors, and countries. The most frequently explored topics were identified by corpus analysis and manual checking. The retrieved topics can be grouped into five general categories: multilingual-related, language teaching, and learning related, psycho/pathological/cognitive linguistics-related, methods and tools-related, and others. Topics such as bi/ multilingual(ism), translanguaging, language/writing development, models, emotions, foreign language enjoyment (FLE), cognition, anxiety are among the most frequently explored. Multilingual and positive trends are discerned from the investigated HCPs. The findings inform linguistic researchers of the publication characteristics of the HCPs in the linguistics field and help them pinpoint the research trends and directions to exert their efforts in future studies. BackgroundHelicobacter pylori (HP) is considered a leading risk factor for gastric cancer (GC). The aim of this article is to conduct bibliometric and visual analysis to assess scientific output, identify highly cited papers, summarize current knowledge, and explore recent hotspots and trends in HP/GC research.MethodsA bibliographic search was conducted on October 24, 2023, to retrieve relevant studies on HP/GC research between 2003 and 2022. The search terms were attached to HP and GC. The main data were from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Data visualization was performed using Biblioshiny, VOSviewer, and Microsoft Excel.ResultsIn HP/GC research, 1970 papers were retrieved. The total number of papers (Np) in HP/GC was growing from 2003 to 2022. China and Japan were in the leading position and made the most contributions to HP/GC. Vanderbilt University and the US Department of Veterans Affairs had the highest Np. The most productive authors were Peek Jr Richard M. and Piazuelo M Blanca. Helicobacter received the most Np, while Gastroenterology had the most total citations (TC). High-cited publications and keyword clustering were used to identify the current status and trends in HP/GC research, while historical citation analysis provided insight into the evolution of HP/GC research. The hot topics included the effect of HP on gastric tumorigenesis and progression, the pathogenesis of HP-induced GC (HP factors), and the mechanisms by which HP affects GC (host factors). Research in the coming years could focus on topics such as autophagy, gut microbiota, immunotherapy, exosomes, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT).ConclusionThis study evaluated the global scientific output in HP/GC research and its quantitative characteristics, identified the essential works, and collected information on the current status, main focuses and emerging trends in HP/GC research to provide academics with guidance for future paths.

Objective: To systematically understand the research frontiers, hotspots and development trends of exercise therapy in the intervention of tumor-related sleep-wake disorders, and to provide scientific basis for follow-up research. Methods: Downloaded the original research papers on February 26, 2024, from the Web of Science core collection database, on tumor-associated sleep-wake disorders. The data that met the inclusion criteria were imported into the Bibliometric Analysis Platform (http://biblimetric.com), CiteSpace 6.3.R1 and VOSviwer1.6.20 software for visual analysis, and imported into Excel2021. Scientometric analysis was performed with Oringin2021 and PyCharm Community Edition 2022.1.3. Results: A total of 512 original research papers on tumor-related sleep-wake disorders were obtained. The most influential countries in the subject area are the United States, Spain and German, the institutions are the University of California System, Sun Yat Sen University and Northwestern University, et al., the authors are Berger AM, Aaronson NK, Bower JE, et al., and the journals are Cancer, Brit J Cancer and Cancer Nurs. The co-cited references suggest that the current research frontier in the field mainly involves the level, place and program of exercise therapy, including the relationship between physical activity, sedentary behavior and cancer prevention and control. The results of cooccurrence keyword network analysis showed that quality of life, physical activity, breast cancer, exercise, fatigue, and survivors may be the research hotspots in this field, with breast cancer, health, aerobic exercise, adults, and chemotherapy being the most popular. Conclusions: The number of papers published and the research enthusiasm in this field show a steady upward trend. However, there is a lack of influential institutions and scholars, and there is relatively little research collaboration across countries/regions/institutions. The scientific research influence of institutions and scholars in most European and American countries/regions is significantly ahead of that of institutions and scholars in Asian and African countries/regions. But Sun Yat Sen University in China is a relatively active and influential scientific research institution in recent years, which is worthy of attention. In addition, the research frontier of this discipline is the level, place and program of exercise therapy auxiliary intervention, and the research hotspots involve breast cancer, health, aerobic exercise, adults, chemotherapy, et al. Background: A large number of papers regarding coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and epilepsy have been published since the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is no bibliometric analysis on these papers. In this study, we aimed to analyze the bibliometric characteristics of these papers, thus identifying the trends and future directions of COVID-19 and epilepsy research. Methods: Scientific papers regarding COVID-19 and epilepsy were retrieved through searches of the Web of Science Core Collection database. Title, authors, contributing institute, country, source journal, times cited, and additional information were extracted from each selected paper. Microsoft Excel 2019 and GraphPad Prism 8 were used to analyze the extracted data and export the bar charts and tables whilst VOSviewer software was used to perform and visualize co-authorship analysis and co-occurrence analysis of keywords. Results: A total of 317 papers regarding COVID-19 and epilepsy were included in the final analysis. Epilepsy & Behavior published the largest number of papers (n = 84). J. Helen Cross and Naoto Kuroda were the most prolific authors (n = 13 each). The United States (n = 88) and the University of London (n = 23) were the country and organization with the most contributions, respectively. The strongest authors' collaborations were between Giovanni Assenza and Jacopo Lanzone and between J. Helen Cross and Nathalie Jette. Selected author keywords were organized into seven clusters, and the keywords in clusters 1 and cluster 4 had the largest average appearing year of any clusters. Conclusion: This is the first bibliometric analysis of papers regarding COVID-19 and epilepsy. Our results showed that the United States was the leading country whilst J. Helen Cross was the most influential scholar in COVID-19 and epilepsy research. psychological consequences of COVID-19, and the safety of COVID-19 vaccines for people with epilepsy, are possible areas for future research on COVID-19 and epilepsy. Objective: The number of citations to a paper represents the weight of that work in a particular area of interest. Several highly cited papers are listed in the bibliometric analysis. This study aimed to identify and analyze the 100 most cited papers in insomnia research that might appeal to researchers and clinicians. Methods:We reviewed theWeb of Science (WOS) Core Collection database to identify articles from 1985 to 24 March 2022. The R bibliometric package was used to further analyze citation counts, authors, year of publication, source journal, geographical origin, subject, article type, and level of evidence. Word co-occurrence in 100 articles was visualized using VOS viewer software. Results: A total of 44,654 manuscripts were searched on the Web of Science. Between 2001 and 2021, the top 100 influential manuscripts were published, with a total citation frequency of 38,463. The top countries and institutions contributing to the field were the U.S. and Duke University. Morin C.M. was the most productive author, ranking first in citations. Sleep had the highest number of manuscripts published in the top 100 (n = 31), followed by Sleep Medicine Reviews (n = 9). The most cited manuscript (Bastien et al., Sleep Medicine, 2001; 3,384 citations) reported clinical validation of the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) as a brief screening indicator for insomnia and as an outcome indicator for treatment studies. Co-occurrence analyses suggest that psychiatric disorders combined with insomnia and cognitive behavioral therapy remain future research trends. Conclusion: This study provides a detailed list of the most cited articles on insomnia. The analysis provides researchers and clinicians with a detailed overview of the most cited papers on insomnia over the past two decades. Background: radiotherapy is one of the major treatments for lung cancer and has been a hot research area for years. This bibliometric analysis aims to present the research trends on lung cancer radiotherapy. Method: On August 31, 2022, the authors identified 9868 articles on lung cancer radiotherapy by the Web of Science (Science Citation Indexing Expanded database) and extracted their general information and the total number of citations. A bibliometric analysis was carried out to present the research landscape, demonstrate the research trends, and determine the most cited papers (top-papers) as well as top-journals on lung cancer radiotherapy. After that, the authors analyzed the recent research hotspots based on the latest publications in top-journals. Results: These 9868 papers were cited a total of 268,068 times. "Durvalumab after chemoradiotherapy in stage III non-small-cell lung cancer" published in 2017 by Antonia et al. was the most cited article (2110 citations). Among the journals, New England Journal of Medicine was most influential. Moreover, J. Clin. Oncol. and Int. J. Radiat. Oncol. Biol. Phys. was both influential and productive. Corresponding authors represented the USA (2610 articles) and China mainland (2060 articles) took part in most publications and articles with corresponding authors from Netherlands were most cited (46.12 citations per paper). BackgroundIncreasing evidence has shown that the intestinal microbiome (IM) is highly linked to colorectal cancer (CRC). To investigate scientific output, identify highly cited papers, and explore research hotspots and trends in the field of IM/CRC, we conducted a bibliometric and visualized analysis.MethodsA bibliographic search regarding IM/CRC research (2012-2021) was implemented on October 17, 2022. The terms attached to IM and CRC were searched for in the titles (TI), abstracts (AB), and author keywords (AK). The main information was extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Biblioshiny from R packages and VOSviewer were used for data visualization.ResultsA total of 1725 papers related to IM/CRC were retrieved. Publications on IM/CRC have grown rapidly from 2012 to 2021. China and the United States were in the leading position for publications in this field and made the most significant contributions to IM/CRC research. Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Harvard University were the most productive institutions. The high-yield authors were Yu Jun and Fang Jing Yuan. The International Journal of Molecular Sciences published the most papers, whereas Gut had the most citations. Historical citation analysis showed the evolution of IM/CRC research. Current status and hotspots were highlighted using keyword cluster analysis. The hot topics include the effect of IM on tumorigenesis, the effect of IM on CRC treatment, the role of IM in CRC screening, the mechanisms of IM involvement in CRC, and IM modulation for CRC management. Some topics, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, Fusobacterium nucleatum and short-chain fatty acids could be the focus of IM/CRC research in the coming years.ConclusionThis research evaluated the global scientific output of IM/CRC research and its quantitative features, identified some significant papers, and gathered information on the status and trends of IM/CRC research, which may shape future paths for academics and practitioners.

Background: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common thyroid malignancy, and its distant metastasis (PTCDM), although uncommon, seriously affects the survival rate and quality of life of patients. With the rapid development of science and technology, research in the field of PTCDM has accumulated rapidly, presenting a complex knowledge structure and development trend. Methods: In this study, bibliometric analysis was used to collect 479 PTCDMrelated papers published between 2004 and 2023 through the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Keyword clustering analysis was performed using VOSviewer and citespace, as well as dual-map overlay analysis, to explore knowledge flows and interconnections between different disciplines. Results: The analysis indicated that China, the United States, and South Korea were the most active countries in conducting research activities. Italy's research was notable due to its higher average citation count. Keyword analysis revealed that "cancer," "papillary thyroid carcinoma," and "metastasis" were the most frequently used terms in these studies. The journal co-citation analysis underscored the dominant roles of molecular biology, immunology, and clinical medicine, as well as the growing importance of computer science in research. Conclusion: This study identified the main trends and scientific structure of PTCDM research, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary approaches and the crucial role of top academic journals in promoting high-quality research. Introduction: There have been relatively few attempts to quantitatively assess if, and in which areas, the use of non-animal methods (NAMs) is increasing in biomedical research and importantly, how this compares to the use of live animals. Methods: We conducted a bibliometric analysis of the relative publication of papers reporting the use of NAMs-only compared to those reporting the use of animals, even if they also reported the use of NAMs, over the period 2003 to 2022 across seven research areas (breast cancer, lung disease, blood cancer, heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes and toxicology) and five regions (USA, China, France, Germany, United Kingdom). Results: We found that the relative number of publications of research using NAMs-only has been higher than animal-based research for the last 20 years for all research areas and is growing. Research areas differed in their relative publication of NAMs-only based work, with breast cancer and lung disease having consistently the highest ratio of NAMs-only to animal-based publications and heart disease, diabetes and toxicology showing the greatest change over the time period. A key period of change was 2016--18. By 2022 the UK had the highest NAMs-only to animal-based research ratio than any other country for five of the seven research areas and China the lowest for six, accounting for publication rate. Tissue and in silico-based methods were the most common of all NAMs-only publications; lab-on-a-chip and stem cell models are increasing in their use but at much lower levels and rate of increase. Conclusion: We found that proportionately the reliance on animals in these research areas is decreasing, which will be encouraging to those that support the replacement of animal experiments. Background and objective: Extracellular adenosine (eAdo) bridges tumor metabolism and immune regulation. CD39-CD73-eAdo/A2aR axis regulates tumor microenvironment (TME) and immunotherapy response. In the era of immunotherapy, exploring the impact of the CD39-CD73-eAdo/A2aR axis on TME and developing targeted therapeutic drugs to enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy are the current research hotspots. This study summarizes and explores the research trends and hotspots of the adenosine axis in the field of TME to provide ideas for further in-depth research. Methods: Literature information was obtained from the Web of Science core collection database. The VOS viewer and the bibliometric tool based on R were used to quantify and identify cooperation information and individual influence by analyzing the detailed information of the global annual publication volume, country/region and institution distribution, article authors and co-cited authors, and journal distribution of these articles. At the same time, the distribution of author keywords and the co-occurrence of author keywords, highly cited articles, and highly co-cited references of CD39-CD73-eAdo/A2aR in the field of TME were analyzed to determine research hotspots and trends. Result: 1,721 articles published in the past ten years were included in this study. Through bibliometric analysis, we found that (1) 69 countries and regions explored the effect of the CD39-CD73-eAdo/A2aR on TME, and the research was generally on the rise. Researchers in the United States dominated research in this area, with the highest total citation rate. China had the most significant number of publications. (2) Harvard University has published the most articles in this field. (3) 12,065 authors contributed to the publication of papers in this field, of which 23 published at least eight papers. STAGG J had significant academic influence, with 24 published articles and 2,776 citations. Co-cited authors can be clustered into three categories. Stagg J, Allard B, Ohta A, and Antonioli, L occupied a central position in the network. (4) 579 scholarly journals have published articles in this field. The journal FRONTIERS IN IMMUNOLOGY published the most significant number of papers, with 97 articles and a total of 2,317 citations, and the number of publications increased year by year. (5) "The ectonucleotidases CD39 and CD73: Novel checkpoint inhibitor targets" was the most frequently local cited article (163 times). The "A2A adenosine receptor protects tumors from antitumor T cells" was the most co-cited reference (224 times). (6) Through the analysis of author keywords, we found that the relationship between adenosine and immunotherapy was a core concept for many researchers in this field. Breast cancer, melanoma, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, glioblastoma, pancreatic cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and lung cancer were the most frequent cancer types in adenosine-related tumor studies. Immunotherapy, immunosuppression, immune checkpoint, and immune checkpoint inhibitors were the hot keywords in the research, reflecting the importance of the adenosine metabolic pathway in tumor immunotherapy. The keywords such as Immunogenic cell death, T cells, Sting, regulatory T cells, innate immunity, and immune infiltration demonstrated the pathways by which adenosine affected the TME. The famous author keywords in recent years have been immunotherapy, immunogenic cell death, inflammation, lung cancer, and gastric cancer. Conclusion: The effect of CD39-CD73-eAdo/A2aR on the infiltration and function of various immune cells in TME, tumor immunotherapy response, and patient prognosis has attracted the attention of researchers from many countries/regions. American scholars still dominate the research in this field, but Chinese scholars produce the most research results. Background: Premenstrual syndrome/premenstrual dysphoric disorder is a serious condition affecting women worldwide, causing clinically significant distress or interference. Therefore, solving these diseases has become the utmost concern worldwide, culminating in numerous studies. In this study, we performed bibliometric analysis on the 100 most cited papers with the aim of identifying research hot spots and trends in this field. Methods: We screened the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of Web of Science (WOS) to identify the top 100 cited studies on PMS/PMDD. Next, we analyzed relevant literature from various journals, countries/regions, institutions, authors, and keywords. Finally, we used VOSviewer and Citespace software to generate knowledge maps and identify hot spots and trends. Results: The top 100 highly cited studies were published in 55 journals, between 1999 and 2017, across 24 countries/regions around the world. Most articles were published in Obstetrics and Gynecology, whereas Psych neuroendocrinology had the largest average number of citations per paper. The United States had the highest number of publications, followed by England, Canada, and Sweden. The top three institutions that published the highly cited literature were the University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, and National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Obstetrics, Gynecology, Psychiatry, and Reproductive Biology were the main research directions, whereas the top 10 Co-occurrence of Keywords included double-blind, fluoxetine, efficacy, prevalence, epidemiology, phase sertraline treatment, depression, progesterone, placebo, and placebo-controlled trial. Results from cluster analysis indicated that more comprehensive epidemiology and steroid pathogenesis have gradually become the hot spots and trends. This study aimed to analyze the landscape of maternal methylmercury exposure and its offspring consequences based on knowledge mapping of the 100 mostcited papers about this theme. A search was performed using the Web of Science, without any restriction of language or publication year. Data bibliometrics, such as the number of citations, citation density, corresponding author's country, year of publication, study design, and keywords, were extracted from each paper and analyzed. VOSviewer software was used to create graphical bibliometric maps. Of a total of 1,776 studies on this theme, the 100 most-cited papers rendered the number of citations ranged from 110 to 1,356 citations. The non-systematic reviews and cohort studies from Anglo-Saxon countries published in the first decade of the 2000s were the most frequent. Clarkson, Grandjean, and Myers were the authors with higher citation density. A total of 520 keywords represented the evolution of the theme, from classic episodes of MeHg intoxication, as well as main the health changes until the different forms of exposure and, in recent years, biomonitoring studies were highlighted. Our findings provide the global research trends highlighting the network of most influential authors and a better understanding of the evolution and future scenarios of this theme. The purpose of this study is to use bibliometric analysis to explore the research status and development trends of the TCM/GM research, identify and analyze the highly cited papers relating to the TCM/GM.MethodsA literature search regarding TCM/GM publications from 2004 to 2021 was undertaken on August 13, 2022. The main information (full record and cited references) of publications was extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) of Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). The Bibliometrix of R package, CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used for bibliometric analysis.ResultsA total of 830 papers were included. The publication years of papers were from 2004 to 2021. The number of papers had increased rapidly since 2018. China had the most publications and made most contributions to this field. Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine were in the leading productive position in TCM/GM research, Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences had the highest total citations (TC). Duan Jin-ao from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine had the largest number of publications, and Tong Xiao-lin from China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences had the most TC. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology had the most published papers and the most TC. The main themes in TCM/GM included the role of GM in TCM treatment of glucolipid metabolism diseases and lower gastrointestinal diseases; the mechanism of interactions between GM and TCM to treat diseases; the links between TCM/GM and metabolism; and the relationship between GM and oral bioavailability of TCM.ConclusionThis study gained insight into the research status, hotspots and trends of global TCM/GM research, identified the most cited articles in TCM/GM and analyzed their characteristics, which may inform clinical researchers and practitioners’ future directions.

The Bibliometrix of R package and VOSviewer were used for bibliometric analysis.ResultsA total of 665 papers were extracted. The number of papers has increased rapidly over the past decade, especially after 2018. The United States and China had the most publications and made great contributions to this field. Th5e Univ Texas MD Anderson Canc Ctr and Univ Paris Saclay were absolutely in the leading position in GM/CI. The most influential authors were Zitvogel L and Routy B. Frontiers in Immunology had the most publications and Science had the most total citations. Historical direct citation analysis explained the historical evolution in GM/CI. Highly cited papers and high-frequency keywords illustrated the current status and trends of GM/CI. Four clusters were identified and the important topics included the role of GM and antibiotics in CI, the methods of targeting GM to improve CI outcomes, the mechanism by which GM affects CI and the application of ICIs in melanoma. “Tumor microbiome”, “proton pump inhibitors” and “prognosis” may be the new focus of attention in the next few years.ConclusionThis study filtered global publications on GM/CI correlation and analyzed their bibliometric characteristics, identified the most cited papers in GM/CI, and gained insight into the status, hotspots and trends of global GM/CI research, which may inform researchers and practitioners of future directions.

Background: Psychache is a negative introspective experience, which is positively associated with the risk of suicide, independently of depression. It is undeniable that psychache is an important influencing factor to trigger suicide, which can also mediate the effect between depression and suicide variables. Nevertheless, the research tendency and current hotspots on psychache of suicide population have not been systematically investigated based on bibliometric analysis. Aim: The aim of the study was to analyze the research status, hotspots, and frontiers of psychological pain in the field of suicidology, so as to provide reference for domestic clinical research. Methods: The literature related to psychache in suicide individuals published from 1994 to 2020 was included and selected from the Web of Science Core Collection database on May 28, 2021. CiteSpace (version 5.7.R2) software was used to visualize and analyze highly cited journals, authors, and articles as well as co-occurrence analysis for countries, institution, authors, and keywords. Results: A total of 230 articles from the WoS database were included. The number of papers over the years showed an overall upward trend. The United States has made the largest contribution, with the majority of publications (89, 38.70%), followed by Canada (48, 20.87%), Israel (31, 13.48%), China (20, 8.80%), and Portugal (17, 7.39%). The most productive institution was Queen's University. Edwin S. Shneidman has the largest achievement and profound influence, and the most prolific author is Ronald R. Holden. However, the cooperation between institutions and authors was comparatively weak. The current hotspots in this field focus on the studies on the relationships between depression, despair, psychache, and suicide, the risk assessments of psychological pain, and the development of psychological pain scales. Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior was the most frequently cited journal in this field. Conclusions: This analysis not only reveals the current research trend and hotspots but also provides some instructive suggestions on the development of psychache in the suicidology. Future work should pay more attention to develop effective psychological pain intervention programs for diverse suicide population. Objective: This review aims to provide a quantitative and qualitative bibliometric analysis of literature from 2013 to 2023 on the role of exosomes in PC, with the goal of identifying current trends and predicting future hotspots. Methods: We retrieved relevant publications concerning exosomes in PC, published between 2013 and 2023, from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analyses were conducted using VOSviewer(1.6.19), CiteSpace (6.2.R4), and Microsoft Excel (2019). Results: A total of 624 papers were analyzed, authored by 4017 researchers from 55 countries/regions and 855 institutions, published in 258 academic journals. China (n=285, 34.42%) and the United States (n=183, 24.87%) were the most frequent contributors and collaborated closely. However, publications from China had a relatively low average number of citations (41.45 times per paper). The output of Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranked first, with 28 papers (accounting for 4.5% of the total publications). Cancers (n=31, 4.9%); published the most papers in this field. Researcher Margot Zoeller published the most papers (n=12) on this topic. Research hotspots mainly focused on the mechanisms of exosomes in PC onset and progression, the role of exosomes in PC early diagnosis and prognosis, exosomes promote the development of PC chemoresistance, and potential applications of exosomes as drug carriers for PC therapies. We observed a shift in research trends, from mechanistic studies toward clinical trials, suggesting that clinical applications will be the focus of future attention. Background: There has been a marked increase in cervicogenic headaches in recent years, significantly affecting sufferers' daily lives and work. While several treatments exist for this type of headache, their long-term effects could be improved, and additional data from large clinical samples are needed. This study aims to systematically examine the current state of research in cervicogenic headaches through a bibliometric analysis, identify areas of current interest, and provide insight into potential future research directions. Methods: This article examines research trends in the field of cervicogenic headache through a bibliometric analysis of scholarly articles in the field of cervicogenic headache over the past four decades. The bibliometric analysis method employed included searching the Web of Science database using topics related to cervicogenic headaches. Inclusion criteria were limited to articles and review papers on cervicogenic headaches published between 1982 and 2022. The retrieved dataset was then analyzed using R software and VOSviewer to identify the major research areas, countries and institutions, the most influential authors, journals and keywords, co-citations in the literature, and co-authorship networks. Results: This study analyzed 866 articles published between 1982 and 2022, involving 2,688 authors and generating 1,499 unique author keywords. Neuroscience and neurology were the primary focus, with participation from 47 countries, primarily led by the United States, which has the most published articles (n = 207), connections (n = 29), and citations (n = 5,238). In the cervicogenic headache study, which involved 602 institutions, the University of Queensland received the most significant number of citations (n = 876), and Cephalalgia was the journal with the most published articles and received the most local citations (n = 82) and highest growth (n = 36). Two hundred sixty-nine journals have published articles on cervicogenic headaches. Among researchers studying cervicogenic headache, Sjaastad O had the most published articles (n = 51) and citations (n = 22). The most commonly occurring keyword was "cervicogenic headache." Except for the fourth most impactful paper, as determined by the Local Citation Score, which analyzed clinical treatments, all the top documents emphasized investigating the diagnostic mechanisms of cervicogenic headache. Conclusion: This study used bibliometric analysis to provide a comprehensive overview of the current research on cervicogenic headaches. Objective: This study aims to analyze the 100 most cited papers and research trends on stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Methods: We used Web of Science to identify the 100 most frequently cited papers on SBRT on September 29, 2021 and extracted the following data: publication year, source title, country/region, organization, total citations, and average number of citations per year. The research type and research domain were classified independently by the authors. Then we carried out a bibliometric analysis to determine the trends in research on SBRT. Results: These 100 papers were cited a total of 26,540 times, and the median number of citations was 190 (range, 138-1688). "Stereotactic body radiation therapy for inoperable early stage lung cancer" by Timmerman et al. had the highest number of total citations (1688 times). International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics published the largest number of papers (37 papers), followed by Journal of Clinical Oncology (13 papers). The USA contributed the most papers (67 papers), followed by Canada (18 papers). Primary lung cancer (33 papers, 10,683 citations) and oligometastases (30 papers, 7,147 citations) were the most cited research areas. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first bibliometric analysis of the most frequently cited papers on SBRT. Our results provide insight into the historical development of SBRT and important advances in its application to cancer treatment. Early-stage non–small-cell lung cancer and oligometastases were the most cited research areas in the top 100 publications on SBRT, and SBRT combined with immunotherapy was a hot topic in the past few years. Background: Electroacupuncture has been used as a treatment; however, a visual bibliometric analysis has not yet been performed in this field. In this study, we aimed to suggest future research topics and directions related to the field by examining the last 20years of research trends and hotspots of electroacupuncture in stroke. Methods: We searched the Web of Science database on electroacupuncture as a treatment for stroke published from 2003 to 2022. We analyzed the papers by annual publication, research fields, nations, affiliations, authors, journals, and keywords. VOSviewer software was used to visualize the bibliometric analysis and results. A total of 440 papers were included in the analysis. Results: The number of publications has gradually increased every year, and neuroscience has become the most actively studied field. Neural Regeneration Research journal and China had the most publications. Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as an affiliated institute, published the most articles. Chen Lidian and Tao Jing presented the largest number of papers, making them the leading contributors in this field. Four clusters were created by analyzing keywords, such as "neuroprotection," "clinical rehabilitation," "neuroplasticity," and "pretreatment-induced tolerance". Conclusion: This study is the first to analyze the research trends in electroacupuncture as a treatment for stroke using the VOSviewer. Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive neurodegenerative disorder primarily affecting the elderly. Relevant studies suggest a significant connection between the mitochondria and PD. Publications exploring this connection have steadily increased in recent years. This study employs a bibliometric approach to comprehensively analyze the current status and future directions of the research on mitochondria and PD. Method: We retrieved data from the Web of Science database and used CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and "Bibliometrix" software to visually analyze various aspects of the research field. These aspects included the number of published papers, contributing countries and institutions, authors, publishing journals, cited references, and keywords. Results: Our analysis identified a total of 3,291 publications involving 14,670 authors from 2,836 organizations across 78 countries. The publication volume exhibited a continuous upward trend from 1999 to 2023. The United States emerged as the leading force in this research area, contributing the highest number of high-quality publications. Notably, the United States collaborated extensively with Germany and the United Kingdom. The University of Pittsburgh stood out as the most prolific institution. Harvard University had the highest academic influence and closely cooperated with the University of Pittsburgh, Juntendo University, and McGill University. Dr. Hattori Nobutaka was identified as the most prolific author, while Dr. Youle, Richard J emerged as the most influential author based on the highest average citation frequency. The Journal of Neurochemistry was the most published journal. The most co-cited paper was titled "Hereditary early-onset Parkinson's disease caused by mutations in PINK1." The major keywords included oxidative stress, alpha-synuclein, pink1, mitophagy, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Mitofusin 2, ubiquitin, and mitochondrial quality control have been identified as new research hotspots in recent years. Conclusion: Mitochondria-PD research is experiencing a steady increase in activity, fueled by increasing close collaboration between countries and different institutions. However, there is a need to further strengthen collaboration and communication between developed and developing nations. Background: Epigenetics denotes heritable alterations in gene expression patterns independent of changes in DNA sequence. Epigenetic therapy seeks to reprogram malignant cells to a normal phenotype and has been extensively investigated in oncology. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of epigenetic therapy in cancer, providing a comprehensive overview of current research, identifying trends, and highlighting key areas of investigation. Methods: Publications concerning epigenetic inhibitors in cancer spanning 2004 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Co-occurrence analysis using VOSviewer assessed current status and focal points. Evolutionary trends and bursts in the knowledge domain were analyzed using CiteSpace. Bibliometrix facilitated topic evolution and revealed trends in keywords. National, institutional, and author affiliations and collaborations were also examined. Results: A total of 2,153 articles and reviews on epigenetic therapy in oncology were identified, demonstrating a consistent upward trend over time. The United States (745 papers), University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (57 papers), and Stephen B. Baylin (27 papers) emerged as the most productive country, institution, and author, respectively. Keyword co-occurrence analysis identified five primary clusters: tumor, DNA methylation, epigenetic therapy, expression, and immunotherapy. In the past 5 years, newly emerging themes with increased centrality and density include "drug resistance," "immunotherapy," and "combination therapy." The most cited publication reviewed current understanding of potential causes of epigenetic diseases and proposed future therapeutic strategies. Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting a significant portion of the population, with prevalence rates of 25% in children and 7-10% in adults. AD not only poses physical challenges but also profoundly impacts patients' mental well-being and quality of life. The stability of gut microbiota is crucial for overall health and can influence AD progression by modulating immune function, skin barrier integrity, and neuroendocrine signaling, which may be an effective target for the prevention and treatment of AD. Thus, exploring the interactions between AD and gut microbiota, particularly in infants, can provide insights into potential preventive and therapeutic strategies. This study aimed to explore the correlation between AD and gut microbiota while providing an overview of current research trends and emerging areas of interest in this field. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted on the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) for relevant publications from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2023. English-language articles and reviews were included. Two investigators independently screened the publications, and visual analysis was performed using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, Scimago Graphica, and Microsoft Excel software. Results: A total of 804 articles were included, showing a significant increase in publications over the past decade. The United States, Wageningen University, and University Ulsan (represented by Hong SJ) had the highest number of published papers. Nutrients was the journal with the most publications, while the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology had the highest number of citations and centrality among co-cited journals. Keyword visualization analysis identified "atopic dermatitis" and "gut microbiota" as central themes. Ordinary cement mortar is commonly used in building engineering due to its high strength, affordability, and easy access to raw materials. However, it suffers from high shrinkage and poor impermeability, which result in reduced building service life and significant carbon dioxide emissions during production. Polymer additives have been found to enhance the mechanical properties of cement mortar, leading to increased interest in polymer cement mortar by researchers. This study collected and analyzed 420 papers published between 1995 and 2023 in the field of polymer cement mortar. The analysis included publication trends, author cooperation networks, national cooperation networks, published journals, co-citation of references, and keywords. The findings reveal a rapid publication growth from 2018 to 2023, with China making the most significant contribution in this field. Among the scholars, Ru Wang has published the highest number of articles in the field of polymer cement mortar, while Ohama's papers have been cited the most. The journal with the most articles is Construction and Building Materials. Research in polymer cement mortar focuses on mechanical properties, performance, hydration process, microstructure, and other related aspects. Objective: We here displayed the global research trends of meteorology and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) as a visual knowledge map by using bibliometrics and revealed the research directions, hotspots, trends, and frontiers in this field. Methods: Using Web of Science core collection as the data source and with CiteSpace and VOSviewer software, we collected and analyzed the annual number of papers, cooperative relationships (countries, institutions, authors, etc.), citations (literature citation, literature co-citation, literature publication, etc.), keywords (emergence, clustering, etc.) of meteorology, and HFRSrelated research data for the past 30 years, and drew a visual map. Results: In total, this study included 313 papers investigating the relationship between meteorology and HFRS. The first paper was published in 1992. Globally, United States had the largest number of publications in this field, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention was the most influential institution conducting related research (20 articles published, and the mediation centrality was 0.24). Several small author cooperation clusters were formed; however, the number of papers published by the same scholar and the co-citation frequency were low. Cazelles Bernard (7 articles) published the highest number of articles in this field, and Gubler DJ was the author with the most co-citations (55 times). The most frequently cited journal was Emerging Infectious Diseases. In this field, the top three high-frequency keywords were "hemorrhagic fever," "transmission," and "temperature." According to keyword cluster analysis, the top three themes were dengue, dechlorane plus, and bank voles. The timeline spectrum exhibited that dengue clustering had a good temporal continuity. The trend analysis of emergent words revealed that the research on "temperature," "meteorological factors" and "Puumala hantavirus" has gradually appeared in recent years. Background: Bone metastases of lung cancer (BMLC) severely diminish patients' quality of life due to bone-related events, and the lack of clear guidelines globally regarding medical and surgical treatment significantly reduces patient survival. While knowledge about BMLC has grown exponentially over the past two decades, a comprehensive and objective bibliometric analysis remains absent. Methods: A comprehensive bibliometric analysis was conducted on relevant literature on BMLC extracted from the Web of Science database from 2004 to 2023 by Biblioshiny, VOSviewer, Scimago Graphica, CiteSpace, and Microsoft Office Excel Professional Plus 2016 software. 936 papers related to BMLC were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). The number of publications, countries, institutions, global collaborations, authors, journals, keywords, thematic trends, and cited references were then visualized. Finally, the research status and development direction in the last 20 years were analyzed. Results: This study included a total of 936 papers on BMLC from 2004 to 2023. There has been a steady increase in global publications each year, peaking in 2021. China had the highest number of publications, followed by Japan and the United States. Additionally, China had the most citations with an H-index of 35, while the US followed with an H-index of 34, highlighting their significant contributions to the field. "Frontiers in Oncology" had the highest number of publications. CiteSpace analysis identified "lung cancer," "bone metastasis," and "survival" as the top high-frequency keywords, encapsulating the core research focus. Keyword clustering analysis revealed six main clusters representing the primary research directions. Burst analysis of keywords showed that "skeletal complications" had the highest burst intensity from 2005 to 2013, while recent research trends include "immunotherapy" and "denosumab," with bursts from 2021 to 2023. Background: The lack of physical activity is a common issue in modern society and is considered a major risk factor for various chronic non-communicable diseases. Bioactive factors secreted by skeletal muscle during exercise play a crucial role in inter-organ interactions. Since the concept of "myokines" was proposed in 2004, hundreds of regulatory myokines have been identified. Visual analysis of research on exercise-regulated myokines is significant to explore research hotspots and frontiers in this field. Methods: Research literature on exercise-regulated myokines from 2003 to 2023 in the "Web of Science" database was used as the data source. Knowledge maps were drawn using "VOS Viewer, CiteSpace, and R-bibliometrix" software. Results: A total of 1,405 papers were included, showing a fluctuating yet slow growth in annual publications. The United States and China led in the number of publications and collaboration networks. Harvard University ranked first with 120 publications. CIBER (centrality 0.16) and the University of California System (centrality 0.16) were pivotal in advancing this field. PEDERSEN BK led author rankings with 41 publications and 1,952 citations. FRONTIERS IN PHYSIOLOGY ranked first among journals with 64 publications and the highest g-index (39), while PLoS One had the highest h-index (25) and most citations (2,599). Through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis, it examined existing research on the environmental impact of wars, focusing on key dimensions such as water, air, soil, and biodiversity. The study further explores variousmethods as well as sustainable-oriented solutions aimed at mitigating these effects on the environment. Objectives: Early gastric cancer (EGC) is defined as aggressive gastric cancer involving the gastric mucosa and submucosa. Early detection and treatment of gastric cancer are beneficial to patients. In recent years, many studies have focused on endoscopic diagnosis and therapy for EGC. Exploring new methods to analyze data to enhance knowledge is a worthwhile endeavor, especially when numerous studies exist. This study aims to investigate research trends in endoscopy for EGC over the past 20 years using bibliometric analysis. Methods: Original articles and reviews examining the use of endoscopy for EGC published from 2000 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, and bibliometric data were extracted. Microsoft Office Excel 2016 was used to show the annual number of published papers for the top 10 countries and specific topics. VOSviewer software was used to generate network maps of the cooccurrences of keywords, authors, and topics to perform visualization network analysis. Results: In total, 1,009 published papers met the inclusion criteria. Japan was the most productive country and had the highest number of publications (452, 44.8%), followed by South Korea (183, 18.1%), and China (150, 14.9%). The National Cancer Center of Japan was the institution with the highest number of publications (48, 4.8%). Ono was the most active author and had the highest number of cited publications. Through the network maps, exploring endoscopic diagnosis and therapy were major topics. Artificial intelligence (AI), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and deep learning are hotspots in endoscopic diagnosis. Helicobacter pylori eradication, second-look endoscopy, and follow-up management were examined. Introduction: Over the last decade, there has been a growing interest in cereal-legume intercropping for sustainable agriculture. As a result numerous papers, including reviews, focus on this topic. Screening this large amount of papers, to identify knowledge gaps and future research opportunities, manually, would be a complex and time consuming task. Materials and methods: Bibliometric analysis combined with text mining and topic modelling, to automatically find topics and to derive a representation of intercropping papers as a potential solution to reduce the workload was tested. Both common (e.g. wheat and soybean) as well as underutilized crops (e.g. buckwheat, lupin, triticale) were the focus of this study. The corpus used for the analysis was retrieved from Web of Science and Scopus on 5th September 2022 and consisted of 4,732 papers. Results: The number of papers on cereal-legume intercropping increased in recent years, with most studies being located in China. Literature mainly dealt with the cereals maize and wheat and the legume soybean whereas buckwheat andlupinreceivedlittleattention from academic researchers. These underutilized crops are certainly interesting to be used as intercropping partners, however, additional research on optimization of management and cultivar's choice is important. Yield and nitrogen fixation are the most commonly studied traits in cereal-legume intercropping. Last decade, there is an increasing interest in climate resilience, sustainability and biodiversity. Also the term "ecosystem services" came into play, but still with a low frequency. The regulating services and provisioning services seem to be the most studied, in contrast terms related to potential cultural services were not encountered. Discussion: In conclusion, based on this review several research opportunities were identified. Minor crops like lupin and buckwheat need to be evaluated for their role as intercropping partners. The interaction between species based on e.g. root exudates needs to be further unraveled. Also diseases, pests and weeds in relation to intercropping deserve more attention and finally more in-depth research on the additional benefits/ecosystem services associated with intercropping systems is necessary. Background: As a serious public health problem, dementia has placed a heavy burden on society and families. Evidence suggests that the use of music therapy as a non-pharmacological intervention has certain advantages with respect to reducing the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and improving the cognition and mental status of dementia patients. However, research trends and hotspots regarding music therapy intervention for dementia analysis have not been systematically studied via bibliometric analysis. Methods: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) for texts published between January 1, 2010, and October 31, 2021, and visualized country, institution, journal, keyword co-occurrence, keyword emergence and keyword clustering. Results: A total of 217 articles from the WoSCC database were analyzed. In this research field, the annual number of publications has generally shown a slowly increasing trend, and the United States has the most publications and the most frequent cooperation among countries. University College London (UCL) has the most extensive influence among research institutions. Among articles, those published in the JOURNAL OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE were the most numerous, with 20 such articles being published, accounting for 9.22% (20/217) of the total. Comprehensive analysis of five clusters via biclustering shows that the research hotspots in this field during the past 11 years have mainly focused on the autobiographical memory, cognitive function, mental state and BPSD of dementia patients. Conclusion: This study conducted a bibliometric and visual analysis of relevant studies concerning music therapy intervention for dementia patients. Psychological problems faced by dementia patients and the topics of quality of life, individualized music therapy, the mental state of caregivers and other related topics may be important research directions in the future. In this study, a bibliometric analysis was carried out to identify the most influential clinical studies and research trends on anti-programmed cell death 1/programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (anti-PD1/PDL1) immunotherapy. On January 1, 2022, we used Web of Science to identify the 100 most frequently cited papers on clinical studies investigating anti-PD1/PDL1 immunotherapy, and extracted the following data: publication year, source title, country/region, institution, and the total number of citations. The research design and area were classified independently by the authors. Subsequently, we carried out a bibliometric analysis to determine the trends and identify the major journals on anti-PD1/PDL1 immunotherapy. The authors analyzed the current research hotspots based on papers published in major journals from 2020 to 2021. These 100 papers were cited a total of 138,840 times, and the median number of citations was 899.5 (range: 341–7,983). "Safety, activity, and immune correlates of anti-PD-1 antibody in cancer" by Topalian et al. had the highest number of citations (7,983 times). New England Journal of Medicine had the highest number of top-cited papers (40 papers), average citations per paper (1,558.3 citations), and rate of top-cited papers (65.6%). Authors from the USA contributed most of the papers (76 papers). Lung cancer (30 papers, 46,422 citations) and melanoma (20 papers, 30,881 citations) were the most cited research areas. In summary, anti-PD1/PDL1 has become standard treatment for various cancer, while adjuvant anti-PD1/PDL1 therapy is currently a research hotspot. New England Journal of Medicine was identified as the most influential journal in this area. Non-small cell lung cancer and melanoma are the most well-studied cancers, while nivolumab and pembrolizumab are the most commonly investigated anti-PD1/PDL1 antibodies. Further studies are warranted to identify effective predictive biomarkers or models, clarify the molecular mechanism of combined therapy, and establish optimal therapeutic strategies. Background: From time to time, neuroimaging research findings receive press coverage and attention by the general public. Scientific articles therefore should be written in a readable manner to facilitate knowledge translation and dissemination. However, no published readability report on neuroimaging articles like those published in education, medical and marketing journals is available. As a start, this study therefore aimed to evaluate the readability of the most-cited neuroimaging articles. Methods: The 100 most-cited articles in neuroimaging identified in a recent study by Kim et al. (2016) were evaluated. Headings, mathematical equations, tables, figures, footnotes, appendices, and reference lists were trimmed from the articles. The rest was processed for number of characters, words and sentences. Five readability indices that indicate the school grade appropriate for that reading difficulty (Automated Readability Index, Coleman-Liau Index, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning Fog index and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook index) were computed. An average reading grade level (AGL) was calculated by taking the mean of these five indices. The Flesch Reading Ease (FRE) score was also computed. The readability of the trimmed abstracts and full texts was evaluated against number of authors, country of corresponding author, total citation count, normalized citation count, article type, publication year, impact factor of the year published and type of journal. Results: Mean AGL ± standard deviation (SD) of the trimmed abstracts and full texts were 17.15 ± 2.81 (college graduate level) and 14.22 ± 1.66 (college level) respectively. Mean FRE score ± SD of the abstracts and full texts were 15.70 ± 14.11 (college graduate level) and 32.11 ± 8.56 (college level) respectively. Both items indicated that the full texts were significantly more readable than the abstracts (p < 0.001). Abstract readability was not associated with any factors under investigation. ANCOVAs showed that review/meta-analysis (mean AGL ± SD: 16.0 ± 1.4) and higher impact factor significantly associated with lower readability of the trimmed full texts surveyed. Conclusion: Concerning the 100 most-cited articles in neuroimaging, the full text appears to be more readable than the abstracts. Background: Epilepsy is one of the most common serious chronic neurological disorders, which can have a serious negative impact on individuals, families and society, and even death. With the increasing application of machine learning techniques in medicine in recent years, the integration of machine learning with epilepsy has received close attention, and machine learning has the potential to provide reliable and optimal performance for clinical diagnosis, prediction, and precision medicine in epilepsy through the use of various types of mathematical algorithms, and promises to make better parallel advances. However, no bibliometric assessment has been conducted to evaluate the scientific progress in this area. Therefore, this study aims to visually analyze the trend of the current state of research related to the application of machine learning in epilepsy through bibliometrics and visualization. Methods: Relevant articles and reviews were searched for 2004-2023 using Web of Science Core Collection database, and bibliometric analyses and visualizations were performed in VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix (R-Tool of R-Studio). Results: A total of 1,284 papers related to machine learning in epilepsy were retrieved from the Wo SCC database. The number of papers shows an increasing trend year by year. These papers were mainly from 1,957 organizations in 87 countries/regions, with the majority from the United States and China. The journal with the highest number of published papers is EPILEPSIA. Acharya, U. Rajendra (Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore) is the authoritative author in the field and his paper "Deep Convolutional Neural Networks for Automated Detection and Diagnosis of Epileptic Seizures Using EEG Signals" was the most cited. Literature and keyword analysis shows that seizure prediction, epilepsy management and epilepsy neuroimaging are current research hotspots and developments. Conclusions: This study is the first to use bibliometric methods to visualize and analyze research in areas related to the application of machine learning in epilepsy, revealing research trends and frontiers in the field. However, unlike the literature of other fields, there is currently no study that has identified the 100 most cited papers within the literature of the insula. Methods: The Web of Science online database was searched to identify the 100 most cited publications mentioning the insular cortex in their titles, abstracts or keywords. To systematically exclude irrelevant publications, the search strategy was finalized as: TS = (insula OR insular OR “island of Reil”) NOT TS = (“insular biogeography” OR “insular mammal*” OR “*insular lymphatic*”) NOT WC = (“Geochemistry and Geophysics” OR “Ecology”). The identified publications were sorted in descending order of citation count. The 100 most cited publications concerning the insula of the brain were identified and their bibliometric data was extracted and assessed. The VOSviewer software was used with default parameters to generate a bubble map that analyzes and visualizes the words/phrases used in the titles and abstracts of the publications. Results: There were 67 articles on experiments/lab studies and 33 meta-analyses/reviews but no opinion or methods paper. They had an average of 943.4 citations (or 62.9 citations per year), 93.5 references and 13.4 pages. There were 35 papers published in open access. USA was the major contributing country. The most top-ranked publications were concerning emotion, salience and pain. Conclusion: Two-thirds of the publications concerned the normal brain function/mechanism (n = 67), whereas 20 publications concerned disease/therapeutic intervention and another 13 concerned normal anatomy. For the 67 original articles, 57 used human subjects whereas 10 used animal models. MRI was the commonest modality (n = 37), followed by PET (n = 16). Background: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a neurodegenerative disease with clinical, pathological, and genetic heterogeneity. FTD is receiving increasing attention because it is the second leading cause of early-onset dementia after Alzheimer's disease. This study aimed to analyse the research trends and hotspots of FTD from 2000 to 2022 using bibliometrics. Methods: Papers related to FTD from 2000 to 2020 were systematically searched through the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). Citespace and Vosviewer software were used to visually analyse the retrieved data of countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. Microsoft Excel was used to generate the annual publications and growth trends. Results: There were 10,227 papers included in the bibliometric analysis. The annual publication output on FTD has increased significantly from 2000 to 2022, with papers published in 934 academic journals and 87 countries/regions. The Journal of Alzheimer's Disease was the most popular, with 488 papers about FTD. The most productive countries/regions, institutions, and authors are the United States (n = 4,037), the University of California San Francisco (n = 687), and Miller, Bruce L. (n = 427), respectively. The article by Katya Rascovsky and her colleagues published on Brain in 2011 was the most cocited paper, with 625 citations. The research hotspots in this field were the clinical diagnostic criteria, subdivision, and pathological mechanism of FTD, such as tau protein, chromosome 17, progranulin, TDP-43, and C9orf72. Conclusion: The future research direction is based on biomarkers and pathological mechanisms to diagnose and differential diagnose FTD from the aspects of behavior, neuropathology, neuroimaging, and serum markers. Objective: In this study, we used a bibliometric and visual analysis to evaluate the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles on axon regeneration. Methods: The 100 most cited papers on axon regeneration published between 2003 and 2023 were identified by searching the Web of Science Core Collection database. The extracted data included the title, author, keywords, journal, publication year, country, and institution. A bibliometric analysis was subsequently undertaken. Results: The examined set of 100 papers collectively accumulated a total of 39,548 citations. The number of citations for each of the top 100 articles ranged from 215 to 1,604, with a median value of 326. The author with the most contributions to this collection was He, Zhigang, having authored eight papers. Most articles originated in the United States (n = 72), while Harvard University was the institution with the most cited manuscripts (n = 19). Keyword analysis unveiled several research hotspots, such as chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan, alternative activation, exosome, Schwann cells, axonal protein synthesis, electrical stimulation, therapeutic factors, and remyelination. Examination of keywords in the articles indicated that the most recent prominent keyword was "local delivery.". Conclusion: This study offers bibliometric insights into axon regeneration, underscoring that the United States is a prominent leader in this field. Our analysis highlights the growing relevance of local delivery systems in axon regeneration. Although these systems have shown promise in preclinical models, challenges associated with long-term optimization, agent selection, and clinical translation remain. Nevertheless, the continued development of local delivery technologies represents a promising pathway for achieving axon regeneration; however, additional research is essential to fully realize their potential and thereby enhance patient outcomes. Objective: Immunoregulation is a complex and critical process in the pathological process of spinal cord injury (SCI), which is regulated by various factors and plays an important role in the functional repair of SCI. This study aimed to explore the research hotspots and trends of glial cell immunoregulation after SCI from a bibliometric perspective. Methods: Data on publications related to glial cell immunoregulation after SCI, published from 2004 to 2023, were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection. Countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords in the topic were quantitatively analyzed using the R package "bibliometrix", VOSviewer, Citespace, and the Bibliometrics Online Analysis Platform. Results: A total of 613 papers were included, with an average annual growth rate of 9.39%. The papers came from 36 countries, with the United States having the highest output, initiating collaborations with 27 countries. Nantong University was the most influential institution. We identified 3,177 authors, of whom Schwartz, m, of the Weizmann Institute of Science, was ranked first regarding both field-specific H-index (18) and average number of citations per document (151.44). Glia ranked first among journals with 2,574 total citations. The keywords "microglia," "activation," "macrophages," "astrocytes," and "neuroinflammation" represented recent hot topics and are expected to remain a focus of future research. Conclusion: These findings strongly suggest that the immunomodulatory effects of microglia, astrocytes, and glial cell interactions may be critical in promoting nerve regeneration and repair after SCI. Research on the immunoregulation of glial cells after SCI is emerging, and there should be greater cooperation and communication between countries and institutions to promote the development of this field and benefit more SCI patients. Background: Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease with high prevalence and mortality, and upper limb hemiparesis is a major factor limiting functional recovery in stroke patients. Improvement of motor function in stroke patients through various forms of constraint-induced movement therapy (CITM) has been recognized as safe and effective in recent years. This research field lacks a comprehensive systematic and clear vein combing analysis, analyzing the literature research of CIMT in the field of rehabilitation in the past three decades, summarizing the research hotspots and cutting-edge trends in this field, in an effort to offer ideas and references for subsequent researchers. Methods: Relevant literature on CIMT in rehabilitation was collected from 1996 to 2024 within the Web of Science database's core dataset by using CiteSpace6.1, VOSviewer1.6.18, R-bibliometrix4.6.1, Pajek5.16, Scimago Graphica 1.0.26 software for visualization and analysis. Results: There were 970 papers in all United States was ranked first with 401 papers. Alabama Univ was ranked first for institutions with 53 papers. Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair was ranked first for journals with 78 papers, and Taub E was ranked first for author publications with 64 papers. Research keywords were CIMT, stroke rehabilitation, upper extremity function, lower extremity gait balance, randomized controlled trials, physical therapy techniques (transcranial magnetic stimulation and sensory amplitude electrical stimulation), primary motor cortex plasticity, lateral dominance (spatial behaviors), cerebral vascular accidents, activities of daily living, hand function, disability, functional restoration, bimanual training, aphasia, acquired invalidity, type A Botulinum toxin and joystick riding toys. Conclusion: The current state of research shows that CIMT still has a vast potential for development in the field of rehabilitation research. The research hotspots are the clinical efficacy of CIMT combined with other therapies (botulinum toxin type A, transcranial direct current stimulation, virtual reality, mirror therapy, robotic-assisted) to enhance the functionality of upper limb hemiparesis in stroke patients, the mechanism of CIMT to improve the plasticity of the motor cortex through electrophysiological and imaging methods, and improvement of lower limb gait balance function in stroke patients and aphasia applications, the optimal intervention time and dose, and exploration of CIMT in new settings such as robot-assisted, telemedicine, and home rehabilitation. Background: Head and neck cancer acts as the sixth most common malignant tumor worldwide with an increasing incidence. The needs and methods of its rehabilitation are diverse and constantly evolving. Objective: This study aims to provide an in-depth depiction and visualization of the knowledge structure, hotspots, and emerging trends within the domain in the past 30 years through utilizing bibliometric analysis. Methods: The literature about rehabilitation for head and neck cancer in Web of Science was collected. CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to analyze main countries, institutions, authors, journals, subject hotspots, trends, frontiers, etc. Results: A total of 1869 papers have been published since 1994. These publications were written by 874 authors from 514 institutions in 74 countries. The United States published 397 papers in this field and ranked first. Head & Neck is the most widely published journal, with Finizia, Caterina as the core author. The main keyword clustering includes terms such as #0 mandibular reconstruction (2009); #1 functional impairment (2014); #2 device lifetime (2006); #3 head and neck cancer (2003); #4 maxillofacial prosthetics (2004); #5 squamous cell carcinoma (2002); #6 readiness for return to work (2009); #7 total laryngopharyngectomy (2004). The current research frontier that has been sustained is "survivors", "reliability", and "meta analysis".
