BackgroundInterleukin 6 (IL6) levels and SARS-CoV-2 viremia have been correlated with COVID-19 severity. The association over time between them has not been assessed in a prospective cohort. Our aim was to evaluate the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 viremia and time evolution of IL6 levels in a COVID-19 prospective cohort.MethodsSecondary analysis from a prospective cohort including COVID-19 hospitalized patients from Hospital Universitario La Princesa between November 2020 and January 2021. Serial plasma samples were collected from admission until discharge. Viral load was quantified by Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction and IL6 levels with an enzyme immunoassay. To represent the evolution over time of both variables we used the graphic command twoway of Stata.ResultsA total of 57 patients were recruited, with median age of 63 years (IQR [53–81]), 61.4% male and 68.4% Caucasian. The peak of viremia appeared shortly after symptom onset in patients with persistent viremia (more than 1 sample with > 1.3 log10 copies/ml) and also in those with at least one IL6 > 30 pg/ml, followed by a progressive increase in IL6 around 10 days later. Persistent viremia in the first week of hospitalization was associated with higher levels of IL6. Both IL6 and SARS-CoV-2 viral load were higher in males, with a quicker increase with age.ConclusionIn those patients with worse outcomes, an early peak of SARS-CoV-2 viral load precedes an increase in IL6 levels. Monitoring SARS-CoV-2 viral load during the first week after symptom onset may be helpful to predict disease severity in COVID-19 patients.

IntroductionGiven that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is commonly associated with metabolic disorders, in this prospective study, we sought to determine the prevalence and risk factors for hepatosteatosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and advanced liver fibrosis in patients with clinical and polygraphic criteria of OSA (n = 153) and in subjects with normal lung function parameters (NLP, n = 43).MethodsHepatosteatosis, NASH, and advanced liver fibrosis were determined by blood-based non-invasive tools, such as the fatty liver index and the hepatic steatosis index, a serum lipidomic (OWLiver™) test, and three distinct fibrosis algorithms, respectively. Logistic regression models adjusted by potential confounders were performed to evaluate risk factors.ResultsInsulin resistance and dyslipidemia were more frequent in patients with OSA than in subjects with NLP. The prevalence of hepatosteatosis was significantly higher in patients with OSA than in subjects with NLP. NASH was also found more frequently in patients with OSA than in subjects with NLP. In contrast, advanced liver fibrosis was rarely detected in the entire study population, and no significant differences were observed between patients with OSA and subjects with NLP. The use of scales to evaluate teaching from the students’ perspective is a method frequently used in educational systems around the world. The objective of this study is to analyze the factorial structure of the Teaching Performance Evaluation Scale (EEDDocente, by acronyms in Spanish) designed with the purpose of providing information that favors decision-making based on evidence for the improvement of teaching in the area of Social Sciences, as well as measuring the invariance by School stage and Educational Program. The sample consisted of 1,849 students of the Bachelor’s Degrees in Law, Psychology, Accounting, Administration, Education Sciences, Communication Sciences, Computer Science, and Sociology of the School of Social and Administrative Sciences (FCAyS) of the Autonomous University of Baja California, Mexico. Based on a three-factor model that meets the fit and quality criteria, a Multi-group Confirmatory Factor Analysis (MGCFA) was performed to measure the invariance of the EEDDocente by School stage and Educational program. It is concluded that the three-factor model can be used to measure, from the students’ perspective, the performance of teachers in the Area of Social Sciences. Likewise, it is concluded that the invariance of the simultaneous measurement is achieved, providing evidence to perform mean difference analysis between the different Educational programs.
