BackgroundPeripartum respiratory complications are a major reason for pregnant women’s admission to the ICU, even endangers the maternal life. This bibliometric analysis was designed to elucidate the spectrum of diseases and risk factors for various respiratory complications during the peripartum period, as well as the future research directions in this field.MethodsRelevant publications were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection on November 1, 2023. CiteSpace was utilized for conducting the scientometric study.ResultsA total of 2,331 articles and reviews on respiratory complications during pregnancy published between 2004 and 2023 were retrieved, comprising 87,244 co-cited references, originating from 568 institutions across 104 countries/regions. The United States emerged as the leading country in this domain, with Harvard University standing out as the most actively engaged institution. Bibliometric analysis reveals that the current research hotspots include “COVID-19 pandemic,” “venous thromboembolism,” “respiratory distress syndrome” and “cardiovascular diseases.” Meanwhile, “venous thromboembolism,” cytokine storm” and supportive management such as “extracorporeal membrane oxygenation” might represent potential future research directions.ConclusionOver the past two decades, research on respiratory system complications in pregnancy has continually evolved. This study contributes to enabling researchers in the related field to understand future research hotspots and trends, providing information on potential collaborators, institutions, countries, and citation references.

Incorporating medical text annotations compensates for the quality deficiencies of image data, effectively overcoming the limitations of medical image segmentation. Many existing approaches achieve high-quality segmentation results by integrating text into the image modality. However, these approaches require matched image-text pairs during inference to maintain their performance, and the absence of corresponding text annotations results in degraded model performance. Additionally, these methods often assume that the input text annotations are ideal, overlooking the impact of poor-quality text on model performance in practical scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a novel generative medical image segmentation model, Cap2Seg (Leveraging Caption Generation for Enhanced Segmentation of COVID-19 Medical Images). Cap2Seg not only segments lesion areas but also generates related medical text descriptions, guiding the segmentation process. This design enables the model to perform optimal segmentation without requiring text input during inference. To mitigate the impact of inaccurate text on model performance, we consider the consistency between generated textual features and visual features and introduce the Scale-aware Textual Attention Module (SATaM), which reduces the model’s dependency on irrelevant or misleading text information. Subsequently, we design a word-pixel fusion decoding mechanism that effectively integrates textual features into visual features, ensuring that the text information effectively supplements and enhances the image segmentation task. Extensive experiments on two public datasets, MosMedData+ and QaTa-COV19, demonstrate that our method outperforms the current state-of-the-art models under the same conditions. Additionally, ablation studies have been conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of each proposed module. The code is available at https://github.com/AllenZzzzzzzz/Cap2Seg.

BackgroundWe investigated the potential relationship between age-related conditions, particularly sarcopenia and ischemic stroke (IS), through a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study.MethodsWe conducted a two-sample bidirectional MR study to investigate the relationship between sarcopenia and stroke. Genetic instruments for sarcopenia were derived from the UK Biobank, while data on IS and its subtypes were obtained from the MEGASTROKE consortium. Inverse variance weighting (IVW) served as the primary analytical method. BackgroundHigh-fat diet (HFD)-induced hyperlipidemia, which is associated with gut microbiota disturbances, remains a major public health challenge. Glycerolipid metabolism is responsible for lipid synthesis and is thus involved in the development of hyperlipidemia. However, possible association between the HFD-modulated gut microbiome and the glycerolipid metabolism pathway remains unclear.MethodsHamsters were fed a HFD for 4 weeks to establish a hyperlipidemia model. Fecal, plasma and liver samples collected from hamsters fed a HFD or a normal chow diet (NCD) were used for integrative metagenomic and untargeted metabolomic analyses to explore changes in the composition and functions of the gut microbiota, and relevant metabolites. Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to explore correlations between gut microbes and circulating glycerolipid metabolites, gut microbes and lipids, and circulating glycerolipid metabolites and lipids.ResultsThe gut microbial composition of HFD hamsters showed significant alterations at the phylum, genus, and species levels that were skewed toward metabolic disorders compared with that of NCD hamsters. Functional characterization by KEGG analysis identified enrichment of the glycerolipid metabolism pathway in the gut microbiome of HFD hamsters. Plasma and liver metabolomics further indicated the upregulation and enrichment of glycerolipid metabolites in HFD hamsters. The Faecalibaculum, Allobaculum, and Eubacterium genera were positively correlated with plasma glycerolipid metabolites and lipid indices.ConclusionThe findings of this study suggest an association between glycerolipid metabolism and the HFD-modulated gut microbiome that is involved in the development of hyperlipidemia.

IntroductionPrevious reviews have often concluded that open-skill sports are more effective at enhancing executive function (EF) than closed-skill sports. However, this conclusion may not hold for closed-skill sports with high cognitive demands, such as golf. This study aimed to compare the effects of football (open-skill) and golf (closed-skill) training on enhancing EF in university students.MethodUsing a quasi-experimental, pre-post test design, 63 male participants were assigned to three groups: football (n = 21), golf (n = 21), and a sedentary control group (n = 21). Over 16 weeks of training, the intervention groups engaged in four 90-min training sessions per week, while the control group attended one 80-min physical education class per week. Assessments were conducted before and after the intervention. EFs, including inhibition control and working memory, were assessed using the Flanker task and Corsi-block tapping task, respectively. Cardiovascular fitness (CRF) was measured by the multi-stage fitness test.ResultsThe golf group showed significant improvements in inhibition control from pre- to post-intervention (p = 0.02, d = 0.26), while the football and control groups did not exhibit significant changes. Post-intervention comparisons indicated no significant differences in EF performance between the golf and football groups; however, both outperformed the control group (golf, p = 0.002, d = 0.99; football, p = 0.01, d = 0.67). No significant improvement was observed in working memory for any group. Additionally, changes in CRF were not significantly correlated with EF performance.ConclusionThis study provides preliminary evidence that golf, a closed-skill sport with high cognitive demands, can effectively improve inhibitory control after 16 weeks of training. This improvement is comparable to that observed in football, an open-skill sport. The findings also suggest that the cognitive demands of the sports, rather than improvements in physical fitness, may be primarily responsible for the enhancements in EF.

IntroductionPredicting TCR–peptide binding is a complex and significant computational problem in systems immunology. During the past decade, a series of computational methods have been developed for better predicting TCR–peptide binding from amino acid sequences. However, the performance of sequence-based methods appears to have hit a bottleneck. Considering the 3D structures of TCR–peptide complexes, which provide much more information, could potentially lead to better prediction outcomes.MethodsIn this study, we developed TCRcost, a deep learning method, to predict TCR–peptide binding by incorporating 3D structures. TCRcost overcomes two significant challenges: acquiring a sufficient number of high-quality TCR–peptide structures and effectively extracting information from these structures for binding prediction. TCRcost corrects TCR 3D structures generated by protein structure tools, significantly extending the available datasets. The main and side chains of a TCR structure are separately corrected using a long short-term memory (LSTM) model. This approach prevents interference between the chains and accurately extracts interactions among both adjacent and global atoms. A 3D convolutional neural network (CNN) is designed to extract the atomic features relevant to TCR–peptide binding. The spatial features extracted by the 3DCNN are then processed through a fully connected layer to estimate the probability of TCR–peptide binding.ResultsTest results demonstrated that predicting TCR–peptide binding from 3D TCR structures is both efficient and highly accurate with an average accuracy of 0.974 on precise structures. Furthermore, the average accuracy on corrected structures was 0.762, significantly higher than the average accuracy of 0.375 on uncorrected original structures. Additionally, the average root mean square distance (RMSD) to precise structures was significantly reduced from 12.753 Å for predicted structures to 8.785 Å for corrected structures.DiscussionThus, utilizing structural information of TCR–peptide complexes is a promising approach to improve the accuracy of binding predictions.

BackgroundThe relationship between selenium and renal function has always attracted widespread attention. Increased selenium level has been found to cause impaired renal function in our previous study, but the mechanism is not clear. In this study, we evaluate the potential mediating effects of plasma proteome in the association of selenium level and renal function to understand the mechanisms of selenium’s effect on renal function.MethodsUtilizing two-sample two-step mediating mendelian randomization (MR) methodology to investigate the genetically causal relationship between selenium level and renal function as well as the role of the plasma proteome in mediating them. Additionally, the mediating proteins were enriched and analyzed through bioinformatics to understand the potential mechanisms of selenium effects on renal function.ResultsIn the MR analysis, an increase in selenium level was found to decrease estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Specifically, for each standard deviation (SD) increase in selenium levels, eGFR levels are reduced by 0.003 SD [Beta (95% CI): -0.003 (-0.004 ~ -0.001), P=0.001, with no observed heterogeneity and pleiotropy]. Through mediation analysis, 35 proteins have been determined mediating the genetically causal effects of selenium on the levels of eGFR, including Fibroblast growth factor receptor 4 (FGFR4), Fibulin-1, Cilia- and flagella-associated protein 45, Mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 2 (SMAD2), and E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase ZNRF3, and the mediation effect rates of these proteins ranged from 1.59% to 23.70%. In the enrichment analysis, 13 signal transduction pathways, including FGFR4 mutant receptor activation and Defective SLC5A5 causing thyroid dyshormonogenesis 1, were involved in the effect of selenium on eGFR levels.ConclusionOur finding has revealed the underlying mechanism by which increased selenium level lead to deterioration of renal function, effectively guiding the prevention of chronic kidney disease and paving the way for future studies.

BackgroundLong-term heat stress (HS) severely restricts the growth performance of beef cattle and causes various health problems. The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in HS-associated inflammation and immune stress involving lymphocyte function. This study investigated the effects of dietary tea polysaccharide (TPS), a natural acidic glycoprotein, on HS-induced anorexia, inflammation, and gut microbiota dysbiosis in Simmental beef cattle.MethodsThe cattle were divided into two groups, receiving either normal chow or normal chow plus TPS (8 g/kg, 0.8%). Transcriptome sequencing analysis was used to analysis the differential signaling pathway of liver tissue. 16S rDNA sequencing was performed to analysis gut microbiota of beef cattle. Serum metabolite components were detected by untargeted metabolomics analysis.ResultsHepatic transcriptomics analysis revealed that differentially expressed genes in TPS-fed cattle were primarily enriched in immune processes and lymphocyte activation. TPS administration significantly reduced the expression of the TLR4/NF-κB inflammatory signaling pathway, alleviating HS-induced hepatic inflammation. Gut microbiota analysis revealed that TPS improved intestinal homeostasis in HS-affected cattle by increasing bacterial diversity and increasing the relative abundances of Akkermansia and Alistipes while decreasing the Firmicutes-to-Bacteroidetes ratio and the abundance of Agathobacter. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC‒MS/MS) analysis indicated that TPS significantly increased the levels of long-chain fatty acids, including stearic acid, linolenic acid, arachidonic acid, and adrenic acid, in the serum of cattle.ConclusionThese findings suggest that long-term consumption of tea polysaccharides can ameliorate heat stress-induced hepatic inflammation and gut microbiota dysbiosis in beef cattle, suggesting a possible liver-gut axis mechanism to mitigate heat stress.

ObjectivesThe aim of this study is to explore the expression of inflammatory cytokines (ICs) in Fabry disease (FD), the correlation between ICs and FD phenotypes, and the impact of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) on IC expression.MethodsWe recruited 67 FD patients and 44 healthy controls (HCs) and detected concentrations of the following ICs: interferon-γ, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12P70, IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-22, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and TNF-β. We also analyzed the impact of ERT on IC expression in FD patients and the relationship between IC expression and sex, genotype, phenotype, disease burden, and biomarkers.ResultsMost ICs were significantly higher in FD patients than in HCs. A number of ICs were positively correlated with clinical aspects, including disease burden (Mainz Severity Score Index [MSSI]) and cardiac and renal markers. IL-8 was higher in the high MSSI (P-adj=0.026*) than in the low MSSI.ConclusionsICs were upregulated in FD patients, indicating the role of the innate immune process in FD etiology. ERT ameliorated FD-related inflammatory activation, at least to some extent. IC expression was positively correlated with disease burden and clinical markers in FD. Our findings indicated that the inflammatory pathway may be a promising therapeutic target for FD.

To promote the use of solid waste in concrete production and solve the problem of secondary pollution caused by a large amount of solid waste, the four-factor and four-level orthogonal test method was used to investigate the different replacement rates of coal gangue (CG) ceramics (15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%), coal gangue ceramic sand (CGS) (10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%), fly ash (FA) (10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%), and steel fiber (SF) content (0.30%, 0.60%, 0.90%, and 1.2). By using range analysis, variance analysis, matrix analysis, and regression analysis, the prediction models of primary and secondary factors, optimal dosage, and strength under different factor levels were obtained. The microstructure and strengthening mechanisms of different materials were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the optimal combination of the CG substitution rate is 30%, CGS substitution rate is 15%, SF content is 1.2%, and FA substitution rate is 10% for cube compressive strength. For the splitting tensile strength, the optimal combination is a CG substitution rate of 30%, CGS substitution rate of 25%, SF content of 1.2%, and FA substitution rate of 10%. The resulting strength prediction model has high accuracy, which can predict the strength within the range selected by the orthogonal test in this paper and provide a reference for the application of steel fibers and solid waste in concrete, which contributes to the energy conservation and emission reduction in the construction industry.

Background and aimsInflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a common chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by diarrhea and abdominal pain. Recently human metabolites have been found to help explain the underlying biological mechanisms of diseases of the intestinal system, so we aimed to assess the causal relationship between human blood metabolites and susceptibility to IBD subtypes.MethodsWe selected a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 275 metabolites as the exposure factor, and the GWAS dataset of 10 IBD subtypes as the outcome, followed by univariate and multivariate analyses using a two-sample Mendelian randomization study (MR) to study the causal relationship between exposure and outcome, respectively. A series of sensitivity analyses were also performed to ensure the robustness of the results.ResultsA total of 107 metabolites were found to be causally associated on univariate analysis after correcting for false discovery rate (FDR), and a total of 9 metabolites were found to be significantly causally associated on subsequent multivariate and sensitivity analyses. In addition we found causal associations between 7 metabolite pathways and 6 IBD subtypes.ConclusionOur study confirms that blood metabolites and certain metabolic pathways are causally associated with the development of IBD subtypes and their parenteral manifestations. The exploration of the mechanisms of novel blood metabolites on IBD may provide new therapeutic ideas for IBD patients.

Background and ObjectiveChronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a complex chronic disease caused by multiple factors that frequently occurs disease in the clinic. The worldwide prevalence of CAG is high. Interestingly, clinical CAG patients often present with a variety of symptom phenotypes, which makes it more difficult for clinicians to treat. Therefore, there is an urgent need to improve our understanding of the complexity of the clinical CAG population, obtain more accurate disease subtypes, and explore the relationship between clinical symptoms and medication. Therefore, based on the integrated platform of complex networks and clinical research, we classified the collected patients with CAG according to their different clinical characteristics and conducted correlation analysis on the classification results to identify more accurate disease subtypes to aid in personalized clinical treatment.MethodTraditional Chinese medicine (TCM) offers an empirical understanding of the clinical subtypes of complicated disorders since TCM therapy is tailored to the patient’s symptom profile. We gathered 6,253 TCM clinical electronic medical records (EMRs) from CAG patients and manually annotated, extracted, and preprocessed the data. A shared symptom-patient similarity network (PSN) was created. CAG patient subgroups were established, and their clinical features were determined through enrichment analysis employing community identification methods. Different clinical features of relevant subgroups were correlated based on effectiveness to identify symptom–botanical botanical drugs correspondence. Moreover, network pharmacology was employed to identify possible biological relationships between screened symptoms and medications and to identify various clinical and molecular aspects of the key subtypes using Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis.Results5,132 patients were included in the study: 2,699 males (52.60%) and 2,433 females (47.41%). The population was divided into 176 modules. We selected the first 3 modules (M29, M3, and M0) to illustrate the characteristic phenotypes and genotypes of CAG disease subtypes. The M29 subgroup was characterized by gastric fullness disease and internal syndrome of turbidity and poison. The M3 subgroup was characterized by epigastric pain and disharmony between the liver and stomach. The M0 subgroup was characterized by epigastric pain and dampness-heat syndrome. In symptom analysis, The top symptoms for symptom improvement in all three subgroups were stomach pain, bloating, insomnia, poor appetite, and heartburn. However, the three groups were different. The M29 subgroup was more likely to have stomach distention, anorexia, and palpitations. Citrus medica, Solanum nigrum, Jiangcan, Shan ci mushrooms, and Dillon were the most popular botanical drugs. The M3 subgroup has a higher incidence of yellow urine, a bitter tongue, and stomachaches. Smilax glabra, Cyperus rotundus, Angelica sinensis, Conioselinum anthriscoides, and Paeonia lactiflora were the botanical drugs used. Vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, and appetite loss are common in the M0 subgroup. The primary medications are Scutellaria baicalensis, Smilax glabra, Picrorhiza kurroa, Lilium lancifolium, and Artemisia scoparia. Through GO and KEGG pathway analysis, We found that in the M29 subgroup, Citrus medica, Solanum nigrum, Jiangcan, Shan ci mushrooms, and Dillon may exert their therapeutic effects on the symptoms of gastric distension, anorexia, and palpitations by modulating apoptosis and NF-κB signaling pathways. In the M3 subgroup, Smilax glabra, Cyperus rotundus, Angelica sinensis, Conioselinum anthriscoides, and Paeonia lactiflora may be treated by NF-κB and JAK-STAT signaling pathway for the treatment of stomach pain, bitter mouth, and yellow urine. In the M0 subgroup, Scutellaria baicalensis, Smilax glabra, Picrorhiza kurroa, Lilium lancifolium, and Artemisia scoparia may exert their therapeutic effects on poor appetite, stomach pain, vomiting, and nausea through the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway.ConclusionBased on PSN identification and community detection analysis, CAG population division can provide useful recommendations for clinical CAG treatment. This method is useful for CAG illness classification and genotyping investigations and can be used for other complicated chronic diseases.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the trace element pollution in a marine ranching area in China based on molecular responses (expression of metallothionein and antioxidant enzyme genes), and biochemical biomarkers (metallothionein content, antioxidant enzyme activities, and malonaldehyde level) in four indicator species. We collected samples of two fish (Lateolabrax maculatus and Sebastes schlegelii), one crustacean (Charybdis japonica), and one gastropod (Rapana venosa) from the western Furong Island marine ranching area and from an adjacent area in March 2022 and measured the trace element content in these indicator species as well as in the seawater and sediment. We found that the bioaccumulation characteristics of trace elements and the response patterns of biomarkers were species specific. Moreover, not every biomarker was significantly correlated with environmental trace element content. We then established two biomarker combinations indicative of trace element pollution in seawater and sediment, respectively, based on the correlation between biomarkers and trace element contents. The selected biomarkers were integrated using integrated biomarker response version 2 (IBRv2). IBRv2 values in the studied marine ranching area were lower than those in the adjacent area. Additionally, these values were consistent with the bioaccumulation of trace elements in the indicator species, the integrated trace element pollution index for seawater, and the potential risk index for sediment. These results show that this multi-biomarker and multi-species IBRv2 approach provided a comprehensive diagnosis of trace element pollution in the marine ranching area. Therefore, its application may be beneficial for marine environmental monitoring and management in view of the ecotoxicological impact of pollutants on organisms.

China proposed the Belt and Road Initiative to strengthen regional connectivity so as to embrace a brighter future together. Since the Initiative was put forward, it has brought many challenges to China’s English education policy. By employing Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and Word2Vec, this study analyzes the evolution of topics and challenges in China’s English education policy under the Belt and Road Initiative. The results indicate that after the initiative, the policy focus has changed. English education has shifted from testing abilities to cultivating students’ intercultural communication skills in order to meet the needs with countries alongside the “Belt and Road”. Moreover, teaching strategies that were examination-oriented have also changed to emphasizing teaching methods and feedback. The focus and teaching strategies have also undergone great changes. China’s English education policy has shifted from focusing on improving students’ writing skills, English proficiency, and creativity to conducting in-depth research and addressing specific issues, including challenges in linguistics, media influence, educational institutions and programs, online courses, attitudes and self-efficacy, use of multiple languages and globalization, teaching issues, and curriculum design. These findings shed light on how the Belt and Road Initiative changed China’s English education policy and provide further directions for future research.

BackgroundLimited studies have investigated the relationship between systemic oxidative stress and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between oxidative balance score (OBS) and IBD.MethodsWe included 175,808 participants from the UK Biobank database from 2006 to 2010. OBS scores were calculated based on 22 lifestyle and dietary factors. Multiple variable Cox proportional regression models, as well as gender stratification and subgroup analysis, were utilized to investigate the relationship between OBS and IBD.ResultsThere is a significant negative correlation between OBS and the occurrence of IBD, ulcerative colitis (UC), and Crohn’s disease (CD). Additionally, OBS is significantly negatively correlated with intestinal obstruction in CD patients. Gender stratified analysis suggest a significant correlation between OBS and CD in female patients, particularly pronounced in those under 60 years old. Sensitivity analysis indicates a significant negative correlation between lifestyle-related OBS and diet-related OBS with the occurrence of CD in females, diet-related OBS is negatively correlated with CD in males.ConclusionOBS showed a significant negative correlation with IBD, especially in female CD patients. This study underscores the importance of antioxidant diet and lifestyle, which may provide a greater advantage for female CD patients.

ObjectivesTo research the connection between the indexes of the indexes of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) combined with obesity indices and the initial neurological severity and short-term outcome of new-onset acute ischemic stroke.MethodsData of patients with acute ischemic stroke admitted to the Stroke Ward of the Affiliated Hospital of Beihua University from November 2021 to October 2023, were collected. The two indexes were calculated by combining TyG and obesity indices: TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC). The National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) was used to assess and group patients with neurological deficits within 24 hours of admission: mild stroke (NIHSS ≤5) and moderate-severe stroke (NIHSS >5). Short-term prognosis was evaluated using the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at discharge or 14 days after onset of the disease and grouped: good outcome (mRS ≤2) and poor outcome (mRS >2). According to the quartiles of TyG-BMI and TyG-WC, the patients were placed into four groups: Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4. Multi-factor logistic regression analysis was utilized to evaluate the correlation of TyG-BMI and TyG-WC with the severity and short-term outcome.ResultsThe study included 456 patients. After adjusting for multiple variables, the results showed that compared with the quartile 1, patients in quartile 4 of TyG-BMI had a reduced risk of moderate-severe stroke [Q4: OR: 0.407, 95%CI (0.185-0.894), P = 0.025]; Patients in quartiles 2, 3 and 4 of TyG-BMI had sequentially lower risk of short-term adverse outcomes [Q2: OR: 0.394, 95%CI (0.215-0.722), P = 0.003; Q3: OR: 0.324, 95%CI (0.163-0.642), P = 0.001; Q4: OR: 0.158, 95%CI (0.027-0.349), P

ObjectiveIn physical health examinations, breast sonography is a commonly used imaging method, but it can lead to repeated exams and unnecessary biopsy due to discrepancies among radiologists and health centers. This study explores the role of off-the-shelf artificial intelligence (AI) software in assisting radiologists to classify incidentally found breast masses in two health centers.MethodsFemale patients undergoing breast ultrasound examinations with incidentally discovered breast masses were categorized according to the 5th edition of the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS), with categories 3 to 5 included in this study. The examinations were conducted at two municipal health centers from May 2021 to May 2023.The final pathological results from surgical resection or biopsy served as the gold standard for comparison. Ultrasonographic images were obtained in longitudinal and transverse sections, and two junior radiologists and one senior radiologist independently assessed the images without knowing the pathological findings. The BI-RADS classification was adjusted following AI assistance, and diagnostic performance was compared using receiver operating characteristic curves.ResultsA total of 196 patients with 202 breast masses were included in the study, with pathological results confirming 107 benign and 95 malignant masses. The receiver operating characteristic curve showed that experienced breast radiologists had higher diagnostic performance in BI-RADS classification than junior radiologists, similar to AI classification (AUC = 0.936, 0.806, 0.896, and 0.950, p < 0.05). The AI software improved the accuracy, sensitivity, and negative predictive value of the adjusted BI-RADS classification for the junior radiologists’ group (p< 0.05), while no difference was observed in the senior radiologist group. Furthermore, AI increased the negative predictive value for BI-RADS 4a masses and the positive predictive value for 4b masses among radiologists (p < 0.05). AI enhances the sensitivity of invasive breast cancer detection more effectively than ductal carcinoma in situ and rare subtypes of breast cancer.ConclusionsThe AI software enhances diagnostic efficiency for breast masses, reducing the performance gap between junior and senior radiologists, particularly for BI-RADS 4a and 4b masses. This improvement reduces unnecessary repeat examinations and biopsies, optimizing medical resource utilization and enhancing overall diagnostic effectiveness.

In order to better describe the uncertainty of renewable energy output, this paper proposed a novel robust optimization method for new distribution systems based on adaptive data-driven polyhedral sets. First, an ellipsoidal uncertainty set was established using historical data on renewable energy output, and a data-driven convex hull polyhedral set was established by connecting high-dimensional ellipsoidal vertices; on this basis, an adaptive data-driven polyhedral set model was established to address the problem of high conservatism in the scaling process of convex hull polyhedral sets. Furthermore, a novel adaptive data-driven robust scheduling model for new distribution systems was established, and a column-and-constraint generation (C&CG) algorithm was used to solve the robust scheduling model. Finally, the improved IEEE-33 bus system simulation verification shows that the robust scheduling model for new distribution systems based on adaptive data-driven polyhedral sets can reduce conservatism and improve the robustness of optimization results.

BackgroundThe Oxidative Balance Score (OBS) is commonly used to assess oxidative stress and provides a comprehensive evaluation of dietary and lifestyle-related exposures. However, there is limited research on the association between OBS and colorectal cancer (CRC), its subsites, and complications. The objective of this study was to assess the relationship between OBS and the risk of CRC, its subsites, and common complications in a large prospective cohort study.MethodsWe included data from 175,808 participants in the UK Biobank data sample repository from 2006 to 2010. We evaluated OBS using a scoring system based on 22 dietary and lifestyle factors. Multiple adjustments, including multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression, gender stratification, subgroup analysis, and sensitivity analysis, were performed to fully explore the relationship between OBS and CRC, its subsites, and complications. The mediation analysis was conducted to investigate whether serum albumin, uric acid, and neutrophil levels mediate the relationship between OBS and CRC.ResultsAfter adjusting for potential confounding factors, a significant negative correlation was found between OBS and the risk of CRC and its subsites (proximal colon cancer, distal colon cancer, and rectal cancer). This correlation was particularly pronounced in male CRC patients. Serum albumin, uric acid, and neutrophil count, which are biomarkers, were found to have a significant mediating effect between OBS and CRC.ConclusionOur study suggests that higher exposure to antioxidants assessed through OBS (diet and lifestyle rich in antioxidants) may decrease the occurrence of CRC and its subsites.

BackgroundHeart failure (HF) brings not only physical pain but also psychological distress. This systematic review investigated the influence of spiritual care on the psychological well-being and quality of life in adults with HF.MethodsWe conducted a systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines, searching seven electronic databases for relevant randomized controlled studies without language or temporal restrictions. The studies were assessed for quality using the Cochrane Bias Risk tool.ResultsA total of 13 studies (882 participants) were reviewed, investigating interventions such as religion, meditation, mental health, cognitive interventions, and spiritual support. Key factors influencing the effectiveness of spiritual care implementation included integration into routine care, respect for diversity, patient engagement, intervention quality, and alignment with patient beliefs. The majority of the studies indicated that spiritual care has a potentially beneficial impact on the mental health and quality of life of patients with HF.ConclusionThe findings provide valuable insights for healthcare professionals, highlighting the importance of adopting a spiritual care approach to healthcare for this population.

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is one of the most important components of various electrochemical systems such as water splitting, metal air batteries, and carbon dioxide reduction. However, the four-electron process of OER suffers from intrinsically sluggish kinetics, which contributes to significant overpotential in the electrochemical system. Herein, highly defective NiFeV layered triple hydroxide (LTH) catalyst was efficiently prepared using a one-step hydrothermal method. The crystal structure, electronic structure, and surface composition of NiFeV LTH were characterized by X-ray diffraction and photoelectron spectroscopy. Moreover, NiFeV LTH demonstrated a superior OER catalytic performance with-low overpotential (158 mV @10 mA·cm-2), related small Tafel slope (102.3 mV·dec−1), and long-term stability at a high current density of 100 mA·cm-2. In situ Raman spectroscopy was applied to investigate the surface reconstruction during the OER process. It is revealed that Ni species were the most active sites at low overpotential, with the potential increasing subsequently Fe and V gradually participates in the catalytic reaction, the Fe and Ni species as OER catalytic active sites lead to the excellent OER catalytic activity of NiFeV LTH, and inhibited the further dissolution of high-valence NiOOH at high overpotential. The mechanism induced the outstanding activity and stability at high current densities in NiFeV LTH system. Dissolution of vanadium excited the active sites of NiFeV LTH synthesized by hydrothermal method which promoted both activity and stability, while the changes of surface species at different OER potentials were detected by in situ Raman spectroscopy.

BackgroundThis study focuses on understanding pharmacovigilance knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) in Yunnan Province, employing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and network analysis. It aims to evaluate the interplay of these factors among healthcare personnel and the public, assessing the impact of demographic characteristics to inform policy and educational initiatives.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted in Yunnan, targeting healthcare personnel and the public. Data collection was through questionnaires, with subsequent analysis involving correlation matrices, network visualization, and SEM. The data analysis utilized SPSS 27.0, AMOS 26.0, and Gephi software for network analysis.ResultsThis study evaluated pharmacovigilance KAP among 209 public participants and 823 healthcare personnel, uncovering significant differences. Public respondents scored averages of 4.62 ± 2.70 in knowledge, 31.99 ± 4.72 in attitudes, and 12.07 ± 4.96 in practices, while healthcare personnel scored 4.38 ± 3.06, 27.95 ± 3.34, and 7.75 ± 2.77, respectively. Statistically significant correlations across KAP elements were observed in both groups, highlighting the interconnectedness of these factors. Demographic influences were more pronounced among healthcare personnel, emphasizing the role of professional background in pharmacovigilance competency. Network analysis identified knowledge as a key influencer within the pharmacovigilance KAP network, suggesting targeted education as a vital strategy for enhancing pharmacovigilance engagement.ConclusionThe research reveals a less-than-ideal state of pharmacovigilance KAP among both healthcare personnel and the public in Yunnan, with significant differences between the two groups. SEM and network analysis confirmed a strong positive link among KAP components, moderated by demographics like age, occupation, and education level. These insights emphasize the need to enhance pharmacovigilance education and awareness, thereby promoting safer drug use.

BackgroundEnhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) has been widely used in adult surgery. However, few studies have reported the efficacy of ERAS in paediatric patients with Meckel's diverticulum (MD), the aim of the study was to prospectively evaluate the safety and efficacy of ERAS in treating MD.MethodsA prospective randomised controlled study of children with MD admitted to our hospital from Jan 1, 2021 to Dec 31, 2023 were conducted, we developed and implemented an ERAS program for this patients. All cases were strictly selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Among these patients, they were randomly assigned to the ERAS group or the traditional (TRAD) group with random number table row randomization. The main observational indicators were operation time, intraoperative hemorrhage, FLACC pain scale results on 2 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h after surgery, length of postoperative stay (LOPS), time to first defecation, time to first eating after surgery, time to discontinuation of intravenous infusion, total treatment cost, incidence of postoperative complications, 30-day readmission rate and parental satisfaction rate.ResultsA total of 50 patients underwent Meckel's diverticulectomy during this period, 7 patients were excluded, 23 patients were assigned to the ERAS group and 20 patients were assigned to the TRAD group. There were no significant differences in demographic data and operation time, intraoperative hemorrhage. The FLACC pain scale results on 2 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h after surgery were significantly lower in the ERAS group. The LOPS was 6.17 ± 0.89 days in the ERAS group and 8.30 ± 1.26 days in the TRAD group, resulting in a significantly shorter LOPS in ERAS group. ERAS could also reduce the first postoperative defecation time, the time to first eating after surgery and the time to discontinuation of intravenous infusion. The treatment cost was decreased in the ERAS group. The rate of complications and 30-day readmission were not significantly different between the two groups.ConclusionsIn this single-center study, the ERAS protocol for patients with MD requiring surgery was safe and effective.

IntroductionT cell receptor (TCR) repertoires provide valuable insights into complex human diseases, including cancers. Recent advancements in immune sequencing technology have significantly improved our understanding of TCR repertoire. Some computational methods have been devised to identify cancer-associated TCRs and enable cancer detection using TCR sequencing data. However, the existing methods are often limited by their inadequate consideration of the correlations among TCRs within a repertoire, hindering the identification of crucial TCRs. Additionally, the sparsity of cancer-associated TCR distribution presents a challenge in accurate prediction.MethodsTo address these issues, we presented DeepLION2, an innovative deep multi-instance contrastive learning framework specifically designed to enhance cancer-associated TCR prediction. DeepLION2 leveraged content-based sparse self-attention, focusing on the top k related TCRs for each TCR, to effectively model inter-TCR correlations. Furthermore, it adopted a contrastive learning strategy for bootstrapping parameter updates of the attention matrix, preventing the model from fixating on non-cancer-associated TCRs.ResultsExtensive experimentation on diverse patient cohorts, encompassing over ten cancer types, demonstrated that DeepLION2 significantly outperformed current state-of-the-art methods in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, Matthews correlation coefficient, and area under the curve (AUC). Notably, DeepLION2 achieved impressive AUC values of 0.933, 0.880, and 0.763 on thyroid, lung, and gastrointestinal cancer cohorts, respectively. Furthermore, it effectively identified cancer-associated TCRs along with their key motifs, highlighting the amino acids that play a crucial role in TCR-peptide binding.ConclusionThese compelling results underscore DeepLION2's potential for enhancing cancer detection and facilitating personalized cancer immunotherapy. Background and aimsInflammatory bowel disease (IBD), mainly categorized into Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a chronic relapsing gastrointestinal disorder that significantly impairs patients’ quality of life. IBD patients often experience comorbidities such as anxiety and depression, and the underlying mechanisms and treatment strategies remain areas of investigation.MethodsWe conducted a Mendelian randomization(MR) analysis utilizing brain image derived phenotypes (IDP) from the UK Biobank database to investigate the causal relationships between IBD and alterations in brain structural morphology and connectivity of neural tracts. ObjectiveTo investigate the time course of action of different doses of mivacurium and determine the appropriate dose for laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion for day-case urologic surgery in children.MethodsA total of 105 patients who enrolled in this study between March 2021 and December 2021 were randomised into 3 groups: Group A (mivacurium 0.15 mg/kg, n = 35), Group B (mivacurium 0.20 mg/kg, n = 35) and Group C (mivacurium 0.25 mg/kg, n = 35). The different doses of mivacurium were injected before LMA insertion. The primary outcomes included the grading of conditions for the LMA insertion-18 score, onset time, recovery index and the duration that mivacurium was effective. Secondary outcomes included pulse oxygen saturation, mean blood pressure, heart rate and the incidence of adverse events.ResultsThe score of the conditions for LMA insertion in Group A was significantly lower than in Groups C and B (p 0.05).ConclusionAnaesthesia with 0.2 mg/kg of mivacurium can effectively shorten the onset time and facilitate insertion of the LMA in children undergoing day-case urologic surgery.

BackgroundDeer tuberculosis is a chronic zoonotic infectious disease, despite the existence of socio-economic and zoonotic risk factors, but at present, there has been no systematic review of deer tuberculosis prevalence in mainland China. The aim of this meta-analysis was to estimate the overall prevalence of deer TB in mainland China and to assess possible associations between potential risk factors and the prevalence of deer tuberculosis.MethodologyThis study was searched in six databases in Chinese and English, respectively (1981 to December 2023). Four authors independently reviewed the titles and abstracts of all retrieved articles to establish the inclusion exclusion criteria. Using the meta-analysis package estimated the combined effects. Cochran’s Q-statistic was used to analyze heterogeneity. Funnel plots (symmetry) and used the Egger’s test identifying publication bias. Trim-and-fill analysis methods were used for validation and sensitivity analysis. we also performed subgroup and meta-regression analyses.ResultsIn this study, we obtained 4,400 studies, 20 cross-sectional studies were screened and conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis. Results show: The overall prevalence of tuberculosis in deer in mainland China was 16.1% (95% confidence interval (CI):10.5 24.6; (Deer tuberculosis infected 5,367 out of 22,215 deer in mainland China) 5,367/22215; 1981 to 2023). The prevalence in Central China was the highest 17.5% (95% CI:14.0–21.9; 63/362), and among provinces, the prevalence in Heilongjiang was the highest at 26.5% (95% CI:13.2–53.0; 1557/4291). Elaphurus davidianus was the most commonly infected species, with a prevalence of 35.3% (95% CI:18.5–67.2; 6/17). We also assessed the association between geographic risk factors and the incidence of deer tuberculosis.ConclusionDeer tuberculosis is still present in some areas of China. Assessing the association between risk factors and the prevalence of deer tuberculosis showed that reasonable and scientific-based breeding methods, a suitable breeding environment, and rapid and accurate detection methods could effectively reduce the prevalence of deer tuberculosis. In addition, in the management and operation of the breeding base, improving the scientific feed nutrition standards and establishing comprehensive standards for disease prevention, immunization, quarantine, treatment, and disinfection according to the breeding varieties and scale, are suggested as ways to reduce the prevalence of deer tuberculosis.

BackgroundNumerous studies have demonstrated the influence of gut microbiota on the development of obesity. In this study, we utilized Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the gut microbiota characteristics among different types of obese patients, aiming to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and provide novel insights for obesity treatment.MethodsTwo-sample multivariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was employed to assess causal relationships between gut microbiota and various obesity subtypes. Gut microbiota data were obtained from the international consortium MiBioGen, and data on obese individuals were sourced from the Finnish National Biobank FinnGen. Eligible single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected as instrumental variables. Various analytical methods, including inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR-Egger regression, weighted median, MR-RAPS, and Lasso regression, were applied. Sensitivity analyses for quality control included MR-Egger intercept tests, Cochran’s Q tests, and leave-one-out analyses and others.ResultsMendelian randomization studies revealed distinct gut microbiota profiles among European populations with different obesity subtypes. Following multivariable MR analysis, we found that Ruminococcaceae UCG010 [Odds Ratio (OR): 0.842, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.766-0.926, Adjusted P value: 0.028] independently reduced the risk of obesity induced by excessive calorie intake, while Butyricimonas [OR: 4.252, 95% CI: 2.177-8.307, Adjusted P value: 0.002] independently increased the risk of medication-induced obesity. For localized adiposity, Pasteurellaceae [OR: 0.213, 95% CI: 0.115-0.395, Adjusted P value: 0.05).ConclusionGut microbiota abundance is causally related to obesity, with distinct gut microbiota profiles observed among different obesity subtypes. Four bacterial species, including Ruminococcaceae UCG010, Butyricimonas, Pasteurellaceae and lactobacillus independently influence the development of various types of obesity. Probiotic and prebiotic supplementation may represent a novel approach in future obesity management.

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Previous studies have primarily focused on the transmissibility of multidrug-resistant (MDR) or extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Mtb. However, variations in virulence across Mtb lineages may also account for differences in transmissibility. In Mtb, polyketide synthase (PKS) genes encode large multifunctional proteins which have been shown to be major mycobacterial virulence factors. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the role of PKS mutations in TB transmission and assess its risk and characteristics.Methods: Whole genome sequences (WGSs) data from 3,204 Mtb isolates was collected from 2011 to 2019 in China. Whole genome single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) profiles were used for phylogenetic tree analysis. Putative transmission clusters (≤10 SNPs) were identified. To identify the role of PKS mutations in TB transmission, we compared SNPs in the PKS gene region between “clustered isolates” and “non-clustered isolates” in different lineages.Results: Cluster-associated mutations in ppsA, pks12, and pks13 were identified among different lineage isolates. They were statistically significant among clustered strains, indicating that they may enhance the transmissibility of Mtb.Conclusion: Overall, this study provides new insights into the function of PKS and its localization in M. tuberculosis. The study found that ppsA, pks12, and pks13 may contribute to disease progression and higher transmission of certain strains. We also discussed the prospective use of mutant ppsA, pks12, and pks13 genes as drug targets.

In May 2020, a bottom-trawl survey in the southern Bohai Sea collected the portunid crab Charybdis bimaculata, a species formerly found in the northern Yellow Sea. In subsequent surveys, C. bimaculata was found to be abundant and likely to occupy habitats and niches of native species. To study the suitability of habitat in the southern Bohai Sea for this crab, nine trawl surveys were conducted between 2020 and 2022 to monitor its dispersal. Using Biomod2 software and combining species occurrence and environmental data, a distribution model for C. bimaculata in the southern Bohai Sea is developed. We analyze relationships between this and other crustacean species by comparing niche widths and their overlap. A random forest model outperforms eight others, and has the highest evaluation indices among single algorithm species-distribution models. The evaluation index of an ensemble model is significantly higher than those of single algorithm models, indicating its greater accuracy and robustness. We report suitable habitat for C. bimaculata to occur mainly in central and northeastern Laizhou Bay, and for this habitat suitability to shift over years from the middle to northeastern waters. Niche width showed a negative trend from 2020 to 2022, and is greater in May than August for each year. Niche overlaps between C. bimaculata and other major crustaceans in the southern Bohai Sea exist. We consider that increased sea surface temperature caused by climate change enabled invasion of C. bimaculata from northern Yellow Sea waters into the southern Bohai Sea, where it can overwinter and complete its life cycle. These results provide a scientific basis upon which monitoring of C. bimaculata in the Bohai Sea can be strengthened to better cope with its invasion and any negative impact on local biodiversity.

IntroductionAffective computing is the core for Human-computer interface (HCI) to be more intelligent, where electroencephalogram (EEG) based emotion recognition is one of the primary research orientations. Besides, in the field of brain-computer interface, Riemannian manifold is a highly robust and effective method. However, the symmetric positive definiteness (SPD) of the features limits its application.MethodsIn the present work, we introduced the Laplace matrix to transform the functional connection features, i.e., phase locking value (PLV), Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC), spectral coherent (COH), and mutual information (MI), to into semi-positive, and the max operator to ensure the transformed feature be positive. Then the SPD network is employed to extract the deep spatial information and a fully connected layer is employed to validate the effectiveness of the extracted features. Particularly, the decision layer fusion strategy is utilized to achieve more accurate and stable recognition results, and the differences of classification performance of different feature combinations are studied. What's more, the optimal threshold value applied to the functional connection feature is also studied.ResultsThe public emotional dataset, SEED, is adopted to test the proposed method with subject dependent cross-validation strategy. The result of average accuracies for the four features indicate that PCC outperform others three features. The proposed model achieve best accuracy of 91.05% for the fusion of PLV, PCC, and COH, followed by the fusion of all four features with the accuracy of 90.16%.DiscussionThe experimental results demonstrate that the optimal thresholds for the four functional connection features always kept relatively stable within a fixed interval. In conclusion, the experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Multiple analytical approaches such as inverse variance-weighted (IVW), MR-Egger regression, weighted median, weighted mode, and MR-RAPS were utilized. Sensitivity analyses including MR-Egger intercept test, Cochran’s Q test, and leave-one-out analysis were conducted for quality control. Subsequently, we employed multivariable IVW, MR-Egger, weighted median, and LASSO regression methods to identify independently significant genera or families and conducted sensitivity analyses.ResultsWe have determined that Hungatella, Acidaminococcaceae, and 15 other microbial taxa act as protective factors for various CD and UC subtypes, while Terrisporobacter, Anaerostipes, and 23 other microbial taxa are associated with increased risk for different CD and UC subtypes. Furthermore, through multivariable MR analysis, we have identified significant genera or families with independent effects.ConclusionOur study confirms a causal relationship between dysbiosis of gut microbiota and the occurrence of CD and UC subtypes. Furthermore, it validates etiological distinctions among different subtypes of CD and UC. A novel approach to adjunctive therapy involving distinct UC or CD subtypes may involve the use of probiotics and represents a potential avenue for future treatments.

IntroductionThe Hedi virus (HEDV) and Wuxiang virus (WUXV) are newly discovered Bunyaviruses transmitted by sandflies. The geographical distribution of isolation of these two viruses continues to expand and it has been reported that WUXV causes neurological symptoms and even death in suckling mice. However, little is known about the prevalence of the two viruses in mammalian infections.MethodsIn order to understand the infection status of HEDV and WUXV in humans and animals from regions where the viruses have been isolated, this study used Western blotting to detect the positive rates of HEDV and WUXV IgG antibodies in serum samples from febrile patients, dogs, and chickens in the forementioned regions.ResultsThe results showed that of the 29 human serum samples, 17.24% (5/29) tested positive for HEDV, while 68.96% (20/29) were positive for WUXV. In the 31 dog serum samples, 87.10% (27/31) were positive for HEDV and 70.97% (22/31) were positive for WUXV, while in the 36 chicken serum samples, 47.22% (17/36) were positive for HEDV, and 52.78% (19/36) were positive for WUXV.DiscussionThese findings suggest there are widespread infections of HEDV and WUXV in mammals (dogs, chickens) and humans from the regions where these viruses have been isolated. Moreover, the positive rate of HEDV infections was higher in local animals compared to that measured in human specimens. This is the first seroepidemiological study of these two sandfly-transmitted viruses. The findings of the study have practical implications for vector-borne viral infections and related zoonotic infections in China, as well as providing an important reference for studies on the relationship between sandfly-transmitted viruses and zoonotic infections outside of China.

Thromboembolism resulting from platelet dysfunction constitutes a significant contributor to the development of cardiovascular disease. Sirtuin 6 (SIRT6), an essential NAD+-dependent enzyme, has been linked to arterial thrombosis when absent in endothelial cells. In the present study, we have confirmed the presence of SIRT6 protein in anucleated platelets. However, the precise regulatory role of platelet endogenous SIRT6 in platelet activation and thrombotic processes has remained uncertain. Herein, we present compelling evidence demonstrating that platelets isolated from SIRT6-knockout mice (SIRT6−/−) exhibit a notable augmentation in thrombin-induced platelet activation, aggregation, and clot retraction. In contrast, activation of SIRT6 through specific agonist treatment (UBCS039) confers a pronounced protective effect on platelet activation and arterial thrombosis. Moreover, in platelet adoptive transfer experiments between wild-type (WT) and SIRT6−/− mice, the loss of SIRT6 in platelets significantly prolongs the mean thrombus occlusion time in a FeCl3-induced arterial thrombosis mouse model. Mechanistically, we have identified that SIRT6 deficiency in platelets leads to the enhanced expression and release of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), subsequently activating the platelet activation-associated mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. These findings collectively unveil a novel protective role of platelet endogenous SIRT6 in platelet activation and thrombosis. This protective effect is, at least in part, attributed to the inhibition of platelet PCSK9 secretion and mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling transduction. Our study provides valuable insights into the intricate interplay between SIRT6 and platelet function, shedding light on potential therapeutic avenues for managing thrombotic disorders.

The objective of this study is to explore the potential of the Chinese Space Station Telescope (CSST) in asteroid mass determination with asteroid-asteroid close encounters. The CSST is expected to observe some asteroids with an accuracy of several milliarcseconds and has a limiting magnitude of 26 (AB mag) or higher in the g and r bands. By combining CSST observations with existing ground-based observations, significant improvements in asteroid mass precision can be achieved. To quantify the CSST’s capability in asteroid mass determination, three types of simulations are conducted. In Type A simulation, 58 close encounters with available Gaia DR2 observations were considered, assuming CSST observes asteroids at a frequency similar to Gaia’s. After using the simulated CSST observations, asteroid mass precision is improved substantially. In seven events, the determined precision are better than 5%. Type B simulation is performed based on a tentative optical survey plan of CSST, but the limited opportunities to observe asteroids involved in a close encounter with strong perturbation from to-be-determined masses. As a result, the precision of mass determination is low, though the improvement brought by CSST data is obvious. This implies that the dedicated observations are necessary for CSST to contribute masses with high precision. Type C simulation is performed with a small amount of CSST observing time, to be specific for a strong encounter, 144 observations spanning 3 years centered at the encounter time, totaling about 7.2 observation hours. In this case, CSST can determine a number of asteroid masses, of which 10 asteroid’s precision are expected to be better than 10%.

BackgroundThe association between gut microbiota and leukemia has been established, but the causal relationship between the two remains unclear.MethodsA bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) was used to analyze the causal relationship between gut microbiota and leukemia. Microbiome data (n = 14,306) and leukemia (n = 1,145) data were both sourced from European populations. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected as instrumental variables based on several criteria. We employed various MR methods, such as the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method, to evaluate the causal effect between exposure and outcomes and conducted sensitivity analyses to validate the heterogeneity and pleiotropy of the instrumental variables.Results5,742 qualified instrumental variables were included. BackgroundTreating subtrochanteric femur fractures in pediatric patients remains challenging, and an optimal fixation device has yet to be established. This study aimed to asess the clinical and radiological outcomes of Ortho-Bridge System (OBS) treatment for length-unstable subtrochanteric femur fractures in children aged 5–16 years.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective review of pediatric patients with subtrochanteric femur fractures treated with OBS between January 2018 and December 2021. The study included 19 children (12 boys, 7 girls) with an average age of 10.4 ± 2.6 years. Two of the patients had pathological fractures associated with aneurysmal bone cyst. Demographic information, mechanism of accident, fracture type, associated neurovascular injuries, surgical duration and blood loss, were collected from the hospital database. Time to union and postoperative complications were recorded. Clinical and radiological outcomes were assessed using the Harris scoring system at the latest follow-up.ResultsInjuries resulted from vehicle accidents in 10 patients (52.6%), falls over 3 meters in height in 3 patients (15.8%), and sports-related injuries in 6 patients (31.6%). The average patient weight was 41.5 kg (range: 21–78). Of the fractures, 14 (73.7%) were complex, and 5 (26.3%) were spiral. The average surgical duration was 111 min (range: 90–180), and the average surgical blood loss was 134 ml (range: 70–300). The mean time to union was 12.7 weeks (range: 8–16). No cases of infection, malunion, implant failure, or femoral head osteonecrosis were reported. Leg length discrepancy of 10 mm was observed in one patient. All patients achieved excellent results according to the Harris scoring system.ConclusionThis study suggests that the OBS may serve as an effective alternative fixation option for managing length-unstable subtrochanteric femur fractures in school-aged children.

Background: We investigated the potential relationship between age-related conditions, particularly sarcopenia and ischemic stroke (IS), through a twosample Mendelian randomization (MR) study. Methods: We conducted a two-sample bidirectional MR study to investigate the relationship between sarcopenia and stroke. Genetic instruments for sarcopenia were derived from the UK Biobank, while data on IS and its subtypes were obtained from the MEGASTROKE consortium. Inverse variance weighting (IVW) served as the primary analytical method. Additionally, heterogeneity and pleiotropy were assessed to ensure the robustness of the findings. Results: The analysis indicates a negative correlation between appendicular lean mass (ALM) and small vessel stroke (SVS; OR = 0.790, 95% CI: 0.703--0.888, p < 0.001), a positive correlation with cardioembolic stroke (CES; OR = 1.165, 95% CI: 1.058--1.284, p = 0.002), and no causal relationship with any ischemic stroke (AIS) or large artery stroke (LAS). Additionally, SVS is negatively associated with right-hand grip strength (OR = 0.639, 95% CI: 0.437--0.934, p = 0.021), while AIS, LAS, and CES do not exhibit a causal relationship with grip strength. Furthermore, no causal relationship was identified between left-hand grip strength, usual walking pace, and IS or its subtypes. MR analysis reveals only a negative association between CES and usual walking pace (OR = 0.989, 95% CI: 0.980--0.998, p = 0.013), with no associations found between other IS subtypes and sarcopenia-related traits. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that a reduction in ALM and right-hand grip strength is associated with SVS, whereas decreased ALM may serve as a protective factor against CES. Conversely, our analysis suggests that CES can impact walking speed. Overall, these findings provide valuable insights into the prevention and treatment of these conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

According to analyses of etiology, clinical features, diagnostic methods, and treatment strategies by summarizing a case of unexplained acute hepatitis recently experienced, we are aiming to provide some information to enrich the clinical experience in diagnosis and treatment of severe acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in young children. A boy, aged 10 years and 6 months old, was admitted to the hospital due to acute abdominal pain, jaundice, and exceptionally high levels of ALT and AST. A range of measures, including patient history, physical examination, and routine laboratory testing, were performed. Furthermore, strategies such as trio-based next-generation sequencing (Trio-NGS) and liver biopsy, as well as metagenomic NGS (mNGS) of blood and liver samples were also performed. In summary, this case was an acute severe non-A–E hepatitis that is a probable case with hepatitis of unknown origin. Immunohistochemical analysis showed an immune injury in liver tissues. Torque teno virus (TTV) sequences were detected by mNGS assay. As for treatment strategies, in addition to general treatment, this patient also underwent plasmapheresis and methylprednisolone treatment due to disease deterioration. The patient’s liver function was improved afterward and discharged after one month of treatment. Taken together, this work reported the clinical feature and treatment of severe acute hepatitis with non-A–E hepatitis in detail. The potential mechanism of liver damage might be due to an immune attack in which TTV might play a role as a co-factor.

Osmotic stress severely affects plant growth and development, resulting in massive loss of crop quality and quantity worldwide. The 70-kDa heat shock proteins (HSP70s) are highly conserved molecular chaperones that play essential roles in cellular processes including abiotic stress responses. However, whether and how plastid-targeted heat shock cognate 70 kDa protein (cpHSC70-1) participates in plant osmotic stress response remain elusive. Here, we report that the expression of cpHSC70-1 is significantly induced upon osmotic stress treatment. Phenotypic analyses reveal that the plants with cpHSC70-1 deficiency are sensitive to osmotic stress and the plants overexpressing cpHSC70-1 exhibit enhanced tolerance to osmotic stress. Consistently, the expression of the stress-responsive genes is lower in cphsc70-1 mutant but higher in 35S:: cpHSC70-1 lines than that in wild-type plants when challenged with osmotic stress. Further, the cphsc70-1 plants have less APX and SOD activity, and thus more ROS accumulation than the wild type when treated with mannitol, but the opposite is observed in the overexpression lines. Overall, our data reveal that cpHSC70-1 is induced and functions positively in plant response to osmotic stress by promoting the expression of the stress-responsive genes and reducing ROS accumulation.

Objective: Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus (SSF) is a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat coughs and pulmonary inflammatory diseases. However, the pharmacodynamic material basis and mechanisms for SSF in asthma treatment remain unclear. This study aims to screen the anti-asthmatic fraction and verify the pharmacodynamic material basis, predict the potential mechanism, and verify the interaction ability between compounds and core targets.Methods: First, three fractions from SSF were compared in terms of composition, comparison, and anti-asthmatic effects. Then, the ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole/time-of-flight-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q/TOF-MS/MS) strategy was used to identify the compounds from the active fraction, and the anti-asthmatic efficacy of the active fraction was further studied by the ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma murine model. Finally, network pharmacology and molecular methods were used to study the relationships between active compounds, core targets, and key pathways of PEF in asthma treatments.Results: The petroleum ether fraction (PEF) of SSF showed better effects and could significantly diminish lung inflammation and mitigate the level of serum immunoglobulin E (IgE), interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-13, and IL-17 in mice. A total of 26 compounds from the PEF were identified, among which the main compounds are lignans and triterpenes. Moreover, 21 active compounds, 129 overlap-ping targets, and 10 pathways were screened by network pharmacology tools. The top five core targets may play a great role in asthma treatment. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis suggested that the PEF can treat asthma by acting on multiple asthma pathological processes, including the IL-17 signaling pathway, T helper (Th) 17 cell differentiation, and the calcium signaling pathway. Molecular docking was performed to evaluate the interactions of the protein–ligand binding, and most docked complexes had a good binding ability.Conclusion: The present results might contribute to exploring the active compounds with anti-asthmatic activity.

Kidney injuries may trigger renal fibrosis and lead to chronic kidney disease (CKD), but effective therapeutic strategies are still limited. Quercetin is a natural flavonoid widely distributed in herbal medicines. A large number of studies have demonstrated that quercetin may protect kidneys by alleviating renal toxicity, apoptosis, fibrosis and inflammation in a variety of kidney diseases. Therefore, quercetin could be one of the promising drugs in the treatment of renal disorders. In the present study, we review the latest progress and highlight the beneficial role of quercetin in kidney diseases and its underlying mechanisms. The pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of quercetin and its proportion in herbal medicine will also be discussed.

Four cruises in the Bohai Sea and northern Yellow Sea off Yantai, China, in April and August of 2020, collected data on the species composition and community structure characteristics of macrobenthos in these sea areas. Temporal and spatial changes in the dominant macrobenthic species between April and August were also analyzed. The M-AMBI and environmental data were used to assess the benthic ecological quality of the coastal waters off Yantai. The results revealed differences in macrobenthic community structure and ecological quality status between the two sea areas. The main findings are as follows: A total of 7 phyla and 153 macrobenthic species were collected; 113 and 101 species were recorded in the Bohai Sea and northern Yellow Sea areas, respectively, and estimated abundance was 301 ind. m-2 and 598 ind. m-2 (p < 0.01), and biomass was 10.20 g m-2 and 14.65 g m-2, respectively. The dominant species comprised small-sized polychaetes and bivalves. The main dominant species were Glycinde bonhourei, Micronephthys oligobranchia, Sternaspis chinensis, and Moerella hilaris. The number of species differed significantly between seasons (p < 0.05). A comparison of the dominant species and community structure of the macrobenthos between seasons showed that more obvious replacement occurred in the Bohai Sea. There were major differences in community structure of the macrobenthos between the two areas. Macrobenthos abundance was positively correlated with depth, dissolved oxygen, and sand substrate, and negatively correlated with bottom-water temperature, pH, and fine silt or clay substrate. In April, sites with low ecological value were at the ports of Laizhou and Longkou and Yangma Island, with the water quality likely affected by intensive bivalve aquaculture, port activities, and river discharge; in August, low-ecological-value sites were the middle of Laizhou Bay, Longkou Port, west of Daheishan Island, and coastal water between the cities of Yantai and Weihai. Overall, the sea areas off Yantai were generally deemed to be in a “good” state of ecological quality.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is still a serious public health problem worldwide. Antiviral therapies such as interferon and nucleos(t)ide analogs efficiently control HBV replication, but they cannot eradicate chronic hepatitis B (CHB) because of their incapacity to eliminate endocellular covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA). Thus, there is a necessity to develop new strategies for targeting cccDNA. As cccDNA is difficult to clear, transcriptional silencing of cccDNA is a possible effective strategy. HBx plays a vitally important role in maintaining the transcriptional activity of cccDNA and it could be a target for blocking the transcription of cccDNA. To screen new drugs that may contribute to antiviral therapy, the ability of 2,000 small-molecule compounds to inhibit HBx was examined by the HiBiT lytic detection system. We found that the macrolide compound rapamycin, which is clinically used to prevent acute rejection after organ transplantation, could significantly reduce HBx protein expression. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that rapamycin decreased the stability of the HBx protein by promoting its degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Moreover, rapamycin inhibited HBV RNA, HBV DNA, and cccDNA transcription levels in HBV-infected cells. In addition, HBx deficiency abrogated the inhibition of cccDNA transcription induced by rapamycin. Similar results were also confirmed in a recombinant cccDNA mouse model. In summary, we report a new small-molecule, rapamycin, which targets HBx to block HBV cccDNA transcription and inhibit HBV replication. This approach can identify new strategies to cure CHB.

ObjectiveRegarding the effects and practical application of insulin pumps on patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), the real-world evidence is limited especially concerning the incidence of hypoglycemia. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) therapy with multiple daily injection (MDI) therapy on glycemic metrics evaluated by retrospective continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in Chinese patients with T1DM.MethodsIn total, 362 T1DM Chinese patients from the outpatient department of the Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, who underwent intensive insulin therapy and used a retrospective CGM system were included in this retrospective cross-sectional study. Comprehensive analysis of clinical and biological features and retrospective CGM derived-metrics was performed on the 362 enrolled T1DM patients who underwent CSII (n = 61) or MDI (n = 301) therapy (defined as 4 or more insulin injections per day).ResultsOur findings demonstrated that patients who underwent CSII therapy, compared with those who received MDI therapy, had lower levels of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and fasting blood glucose; moreover, CSII therapy was associated with better glycemic outcomes in terms of increasing time in range (TIR), decreasing time above range (TAR), and achieving CGM-associated targets of TIR ≥70% and TAR

The steel plant integrated energy system (SPIES) is an important form in the steel industry. Improving the utilization efficiency of steam, electricity, coal gas and other energy flows is of great significance for both economic and environmental benefits. In this paper, a SPIES scheduling model is established according to the operation characteristics of coal gas holders, boilers and other equipment in steel plants. Meanwhile, to cope with the uncertainty of byproduct coal gas, this paper adopts an imprecise Dirichlet model (IDM) to construct a fuzzy set containing multisource coal gas production information. Then, according to duality theory and the big-M method, the original distributed robust optimization (DRO) model is transformed into a traditional mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model, which is solved by the column-and-constraint generation (CC&G) algorithm. Finally, a real steel production system is given in a case study. Case study illustrate that compared with the traditional robust method, the method proposed in this paper for a SPIES can effectively reduce the conservatism of the scheduling decision. Numerical simulation show that the proposed method can reduce total cost by 55,307.1¥, accounting for 1.91% of the total cost compared with robust optimization method and save 1,326.94 s of computational time compared with the stochastic optimization method, thus reaching balance between conservatism and computational efficiency.

BackgroudEndemic cretinism is the most severe manifestation among the iodine deficiency-related disorders. The clinical status of the cretins may be modified subsequently by the duration and severity of the disease. We aimed to reassess the clinical status and thyroid function of 31 surviving “neurological cretins” after 42 years of iodine supplementation in a historically severely iodine deficiency area of China.MethodsIt was a cross-sectional study in design and we investigated all 31 surviving neurological cretins and 85 controls. A detailed neurological examination was conducted on each patients. All the participants were given a questionnaire and underwent B-mode ultrasonography of the thyroid. The serum levels of thyroid hormones, thyroid antibodies, serum iodine concentration (SIC) and urine iodine concentration (UIC) were measured.ResultsThe neurological cretins had shorter stature than that of the control. Neurological damage is still present in patients with cretinism. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common disease, affecting 8%–13% of the females of reproductive age, thereby compromising their fertility and long-term health. However, the pathogenesis of PCOS is still unclear. It is not only a reproductive endocrine disease, dominated by hyperandrogenemia, but also is accompanied by different degrees of metabolic abnormalities and insulin resistance. With a deeper understanding of its pathogenesis, more small metabolic molecules, such as bile acids, amino acids, and short-chain fatty acids, have been reported to be involved in the pathological process of PCOS. Recently, the critical role of gut microbiota in metabolism has been focused on. The gut microbiota-related metabolic pathways can significantly affect inflammation levels, insulin signaling, glucose metabolism, lipid metabolism, and hormonal secretions. Although the abnormalities in gut microbiota and metabolites might not be the initial factors of PCOS, they may have a significant role in the pathological process of PCOS. The dysbiosis of gut microbiota and disturbance of gut metabolites can affect the progression of PCOS. Meanwhile, PCOS itself can adversely affect the function of gut, thereby contributing to the aggravation of the disease. Inhibiting this vicious cycle might alleviate the symptoms of PCOS. However, the role of gut microbiota in PCOS has not been fully explored yet. This review aims to summarize the potential effects and modulative mechanisms of the gut metabolites on PCOS and suggests its potential intervention targets, thus providing more possible treatment options for PCOS in the future.

Platelets play a central role in hemostasis and thrombosis, regulating the occurrence and development of thrombotic diseases, including ischemic stroke. Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) has recently been detected in platelet, while the function of PD-L1 in platelets remain elusive. Our data reveal a novel mechanism for the role of PD-L1 on platelet activation and arterial thrombosis. PD-L1 knockout does not affect platelet morphology, count, and mean volume under homeostasis and without risk of bleeding, which inhibits platelet activation by suppressing outside-in-activation of integrin by downregulating the Caspase-3/GSDME pathway. Platelet adoptive transfer experiments demonstrate that PD-L1 knockout inhibits thrombosis. And the absence of PD-L1 improves ischemic stroke severity and increases mice survival. Immunohistochemical staining of the internal structure of the thrombus proves that PD-L1 enhances the seriousness of the thrombus by inhibiting platelet activation. This work reveals a regulatory role of PD-L1 on platelet activation and thrombosis while providing novel platelet intervention strategies to prevent thrombosis.
