RHEOLOGY , *CHEMICAL properties , *SAFFLOWER , *CEREAL products , *FLOUR - Abstract
The use of alternative flour in the production of cereal products such as bread can improve the functional and nutritional properties of bread. However, the addition of substitute flour to wheat flour may have some technological, sensory, and rheological disadvantages. To eliminate these problems, alternative flours should be used in different proportions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the remaining proportions of hemp, safflower and rosehip seeds after oil extraction and to determine their chemical properties (protein, fat, ash) and to investigate the effect on rheological dough properties with Mixolab when used as a substitute for wheat flour. Accordingly, safflower, hemp and rosehip seed flour were added to wheat flour in five different amounts (5, 7.5, 10, 15 and 20%), focusing on displacement. The addition of flour increased the protein, fat, ash, phenolic content, and antioxidant capacity. It was found that the addition of 10% safflower and hemp seed flour and 7.5% rosehip seed flour had a positive effect on rheological properties. For all three flour additions, the dough development time, stability, and percent protein softening values increased, while water holding capacity decreased. Flours added at 15% or more began to negatively affect the rheological properties. This study shows that 3 different flours, which can be added up to 10%, improve the rheological properties, chemically enrich them and improve their functional properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIGITAL subtraction angiography ,BASILAR artery ,CIRCLE of Willis ,ARTERIAL stenosis ,GENETIC disorders ,FIBRODYSPLASIA ossificans progressiva - Abstract
Moyamoya disease is a chronic, progressive hereditary disease characterized by narrowing of the vascular lumen because of hypertrophy of smooth muscles in the walls of the arteries that form the circle of Willis. Cerebral vessels may be encountered in bleeding and occlusion clinics. Although it is seen as predominant in Asian races, cases have been reported worldwide. Although its etiopathogenesis is not clear, genetics, some infectious agents, and autoimmune mechanisms are blamed. The gold standard in diagnosis is digital subtraction angiography. Surgical or endovascular interventions can be used in patients with recurrent progressive ischemic events and decreased cerebral perfusion. Here we present a 43-yearold Moyamoya patient who presented with posterior system findings and had a stent implantation with critical stenosis in the basilar artery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Transpedicular screw fixation for the subaxial cervical spine is considered to be more stable than other posterior fixation techniques despite its technical challenges. Thorough understanding of cervical pedicle anatomy and morphometric parameters is essential to avoid neurovascular injury during screw placement. To evaluate subaxial cervical spine pedicle dimensions, screw starting points, and screw trajectories to provide data that might be representative of the entire Anatolian peninsula. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 200 patients (2000 cervical pedicles). The distance from the junction of the lamina and spinous process to the entry point (DEP), pedicle width (PW), pedicle maximum axis length (PAL), pedicle transverse angle (PTA) in the axial plane, and pedicle height (PH) in the sagittal plane were measured from C3 to C7 on computed tomography (CT) by two blinded observers. Results: The mean values for DEP, PW, PAL, PTA and PHA ranged between 22.92 mm-23.75 mm, 4.99 mm-6.26 mm, 28.24 mm-36.01 mm, 33.52°- 34.60° and 6.36 mm-7.03 mm, respectively. The PW significantly increased in the rostrocaudal direction. The PAL was significantly different between the right and left sides at C3 in male patients. The PTA was significantly different between the right and left sides at C3 in female patients. The PH was greater than the PW at all levels on both sides. Conclusion: Although surgical planning should be carried out on a case-by-case basis, the findings of the present study might be helpful for Turkish spine surgeons in decision-making for the accurate placement of cervical pedicle screws. INTRACRANIAL hemorrhage , *AGE distribution , *HEMATOMA , *HYPERTENSION , *RETROSPECTIVE studies ,MORTALITY risk factors - Abstract
Objective: To investigate mortality in patients undergoing surgical treatment for spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) and to identify the predictive factors. Materials and Methods: The medical records of 164 patients with sICH who underwent surgery at two institutions between 2010 and 2017 were retrospectively examined and analyzed. Results: Among 164 patients who received surgical treatment, 83 (50.6%) were women and 81 (49.4%) were men. The mean patient age was 56±14.54 years. Of all patients, 109 (66.4%) had hypertension. Hematoma was intraparenchymal in 69 (42.1%) patients, thalamic in 33 (20.1%), intraventricular in 33 (20.1%), and cerebellar in 29 (17.7%) patients. The mortality rate among patients who underwent surgery within the first 8 h of hematoma occurrence was 55.4%; this rate was 73% among those who underwent surgery 8-24 h after diagnosis, and 72.7% among those who underwent surgery 24-48 h after diagnosis. Conclusion: Prognosis and mortality associated with sICH are usually affected by patient age, hematoma location and volume, intraventricular hemorrhage, and patient's initial neurologic status. We found no significant relationship between surgical treatment 8 h after hemorrhage and mortality There are still discussions about the indications of surgical treatment in intracranial hematomas. Coronary artery bypass operation was performed with the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease in a-58-year-old male patient in whom orthotopic liver transplantation had been performed 4 years ago. Coronary artery bypass grafting operation was performed using left internal mammarian artery and autogenous vein graft for three vessels. There were no complications in the pre- and post-operative periods. This patient as the first case in our hospital was presented with the literature review. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
